Howdy folks. I see a lot of old-timers on here and I think that is very cool. My friend Bill told me about this site, so here I am.

I finished the Q course in 1992 and spent the rest of my Army career in 3rd SFG besides a SWCS tour. I was JR/SR Engineer and 18F on ODA 361 until 1998, did 4 years in SWCS in Eval/ QA, then returned to 3rd SFG in early 2002. I was the 18F on ODA 372, then Team Sergeant of ODA 376 until I retired in 2005. I feel very fortunate to have been able to go lots of places and do so much really cool shit while I was in SF. It was tough at times, but it was great and I wouldn't trade my SF memories for anything. I miss being on an A team a lot. Hanging out with you guys here is the next best thing for us busted up retirees I guess.

Glad to meet you all in advance.

Just wanted to say hello and give a small intro. So, hello all.

I started out in aviation as a Blackhawk mechanic and crewchief. I was stationed in Campbell, Panama, Campbell (for a second time), and Germany. It was in Germany when I decided I wanted something more and went to selection in the spring of 2000. Unfortunately, I didn't make it all the way through team week. I went back a second time and was selected as a medic. I then started the q-course in April 2002. After the course, I went out to 1st Group as a medic. I had deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq with a couple of JCET's and other trips thrown in the mix. Now, I am on a SWCS tour.

Anyway, this site was referred to me by a former co-worker as we were looking up information about fallen comrades. In addition to honoring the fallen, I also like what I've been reading in the other forums and I look forward to maintaining the QP traditions as well.

Glad to meet you all. If you have any questions of me, feel free to ask.

Greetings,
I'm an EOD team leader currently deployed to Iraq who has found himself at the point of deciding whether to continue working in the Army, or turn toward civilian life. 9-11 was my J.F.K. and brought me into the life both of my parents were involved in. My mother was in the Woman's Army Core before it was disbanded, and my Father met her in the military. I lucked out into picking Explosive Ordnance Disposal as a career field and I've experienced some very positive life lessons because of it. With recruiting emails and rumors of a special forces support company opening soon I find myself wondering if there is something even better out there. I've been perusing this website in the hopes of answering some of my questions about the special forces field. I realize that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but I'm curious as to if the complaints I have about my current job would be answered in a more demanding field.

I'm a future 18X taking some time to prepare for rigors of selection and settle personal/family priorities. I'll be an old man at nearly 27 when I enlist.

Just recieved my copy of Get Selected and am taking advantage of wealth of information in that book as well as this website to help me prepare.

Thank you for catologing F.A.Q.'s and opening this forum to those of us who need it.

Greetings to all,

My name is John and I have been using the search feature on this site to stay current with information regarding the Course as well as the SF community in general and am posting my introduction as instructed. I am currently stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, working in the newly established Africa Command (AFRICOM), on the JOC floor.

My duty stations and assingments include : A Co 3/504 PIR (later reflagged to 1/508 PIR), HHC Scout Platoon 3/504 PIR, Student in the SFQC, and now AFRICOM. My MOS is 11B2P.

My journey in joing the SF community has been a long, painful process. I enlisted in the Army in 2003 under the 18X program. After OSUT and Airborne I attended SOPC at Fort Bragg. During a land nav event I injured me knee and was medically dropped from the course. I spent four months in the OT section on crutches and was eventually shipped of to the 82nd. I took this initial setback as a blessing in disguise and used the oppurtunity to gain experience on the line. I was eventually selected for a Scout platoon, and deployed to Iraq with TF 145 in 05-06. Ready for round two,I attended SFAS Class 04-06, and began the Q Course in November of 2006. During Phase 2 I was thrown from a LMTV while doing the final check of the bed during an insertion ( I guess the driver got impatient and decided to take off), and injured my knee again. After two months of physical therapy I was cleared to return to duty. I attended Phase 2 again, and several weeks in I suffered a heat stroke. (Got to love Ft. Bragg in July). I was once again medically dropped and told I would need to wait one year to re-submit due to the severity of the injury. Well, my year is up and I am in the process of re-submitting my packet. I hope to keep the same MOS as I was assigned before, 18D, as I had already completed the required Correspondence Courses. I would not mind getting another language though (French is not my cup of tea). All the setbacks have just fueled my motivation as well as desire to learn, improve, and succeed. I will guarantee no one in my class is going to want it more than me.

I found this site a few months ago doing a web search and drop in occasionally to read up on some of the current events in the Special Forces Community. I have read some informative posts that give young men an insight as to what they may expect should they accept the challenge to join the ranks. For you older cats contemplating retirement, think twice it very hard to fill the void. The posts I dislike to read are about the posers out there who are dishonoring those whom serve now or who have served before. I look forward to keeping in contact and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

While stationed in Germany back in 1986 my Company Commander (a former Green Beret) said "Mike you need to join the Special Forces". Thanks George!

Gentlemen, thank you for letting us “Non-SF types” participate on this forum.

I was in the US Army Infantry from 1999 – 2007. In May 2006, while on patrol in Hit Iraq, I was shot by a sniper just below my IBA. (Doc said the bullet was 3 cm off my right femoral artery.) I’m working toward a full recovery in hopes of being able to join 20th SFG before my 30th birthday. In the mean time, I’ll be reading your posts hoping to yoke with your knowledge and strength - Iron sharpens iron. If any of you Quiet Professionals have any advice for a recovering wounded warrior please send me a message, I’m interested to hear your advice.

Thanks for having me.

Hey everyone,

I guess I should say thanks to everyone here who has served, is serving or will serve. IMO, you all don't get enough credit for everything you sacrifice. I wanted to once serve in special operations but, realized that life wasn't for me especially since I was going to be a dad.

Anyway, I'm 32yrs old from OKC. I currently work in both the private security and juvenile justice fields. I've always had an interest in SOF and intelligence and figured this site might be a good way to keep up to date on what's going on in the world.

Good day all and thank you for allowing me this opportunity. I have completed my profile and am posting this introduction as required. I am a TSgt (E6) Intelligence Analyst in the USAF. I don't use my real name online so I go by Damien Reign. I've been in for 10 years, most of that I have supported special operations forces in one form or another. I joined the USAF to do Pararescue but just barely failed the PAST and so I stayed with my job in Intel. I've mostly supported the "colorful" JSOC Task Forces and SOCOM elements. I've done basic survival training (FL), SERE (ME), Peacetime Governmental Detention and Hostage Survival (WA). I've also attended the BSR Executive Protection Defensive Driver course at Summit Point (WV). I recently returned from a deployment ISO CJTF Troy working the Counter-IED mission in Baghdad. I'm a volunteer EMT/Firefighter and I try to be a good husband and a soon to be father. My brother, while doing his own research on U.S. Army SF found this site and told me about it. I am a member of many random forums and I must say that in just three days of use, I have found that this is the best controlled site I have ever seen on the open net. I should have expected as much. My intent is to use your site to learn as much as I can. I am currently interested in long range precision shooting. I will post when it is appropriate and where I feel I have enough experience to add substance. Again, I appreciate the opportunity and please allow for the creative writing. I was inspired.

What comes from above cannot be spoken to another. Vulnerable thoughts kept in boxes. Looking down from on high with unwavering gaze. Not even glasses shield you from the rays that made this incredible. Whispers in a system locked down and restricted. This is another world.

Born to open spaces and horse power, knowing not of what lay just beyond. Constant struggle and strife begot devision and a new dynamic. Quicker than most, yet mired in mediocrity. Struggle remained until my calling was found. From death, life. An unquenchable desire for more. A new journey...that others may live.

Enlisted by the force that shapes mountain stone and desert sand, creating castles in the heavens. The PAST, more difficult to endure than what lay ahead. My dream shattered. What next? Pushed to be Einstein and Nostradamus in order to save Supermen from doomsday. My trek landed me in the land of the rising sun. Many times the ground shook and the sky fell glistening and frozen. A thousand yard stare at an old foe, watching bears migrate north for the winter. A handful of full moons on an icy black abyss staring at twin volcanoes from a steel beach, we shoot, we score. Adjust fire, lens shifted, focused now on the beginning of a war with no end. Lest we forget.

Again, moved to the East to an old Fort with a shadowed past. Eyes and ears open for any hint of things to come. My trigger finger in a tributary woven round the world. All stations, all stations. Seeing the world from a room with no windows. Deciphering zuj, qsl, as1, wtf, etc. I've lived in squalor, trekked through forests, swamps and mountains and was reminded that I shall never be forgotten. Wandered into Secrets, on the boulevard, next to a shark who's jaws gobble cheddar. I've fought alongside green men chasing gargoyles with gossamer wings. I've felt fiery rain, peanut butter earth, ran with buckets, scored touchdowns playing bingo and was parched by dusk.

This current land lacks much, but many souls have passed through this gateway and come through improved. A river runs through it, just don't fall in. I feast in a global harvest providing for the needs of many. Sent back to old stomping grounds. Just South of Victory was achieved and Liberty was next. To be or not to be was once the question. Stay and play or blow and go was a louder argument me thinks. When summoned, Troy became omnipresent with sexy companion alongside. What happiness comes from a job well done. Medals pinned to the living and placed with the dead. I once read of a warm feeling that no one else notices. I long to return to my home away from home.

With the utmost respect. We will never forget.

Hello all. I am a 17 year old h.s. student currently living overseas. I will soon be finishing this stage of my education and am therefore evaluating my options for after school. Quiet professionals,

Ok, well firstly may I say that I am honoured to be in your company, and secondly congratulate you on a great site, witch proves to be valuable area of information for people like myself, and is an indeed proof of the utmost professionalism of witch you as a regiment pride yourselves on upholding.

Who am I? Ok, I am a British Paratrooper currently living in the UK. I joined the Parachute Regiment back in 1997 (as you can see from my profile). I had five great years in 2 Para and was lucky enough to serve with good guys in some bad places such as N Ireland, Macedonia, N Africa, and Afghanistan.

At that point I decided to go a little more specialised by joining the unit that I currently serve with. To do that I first had to pass the selection cadre that runs yearly in the Welsh mountains. This course runs over six weeks and consists of:
• A two week land navigation course culminating in a 69km march.
• One week SOP, advance force tactics.
• One week advance force range package.
• Two week final EX culminating with conduct after capture EX.

Once I completed this faze I was then placed on probation for twelve months and constantly tested whilst I practiced, practiced and practiced again to master the basics before I carried out my continuation training. Some of the highlights of this were completing my HALO/HAHO training, Demo basics, Medical advance force trauma school, and hospital attachments, Small arms and heavy weapons up to battalion level.

What the f@@k am I doing on your site? It was about this period that I came into contact (whilst deployed to the box in 2003) with an ODA. Though I had little to do with them, and new even less about them (except that they were USSF) they still left a lasting impression in my mind. I am naturally inquisitive and got talking to a few of the guys. We took the crap out of each other, had a great laugh and that was that.

It wasn’t until three years later that I next came into contact with a team. This time we shared a FOB in a different box (same enemy). This team had a massive effect on my views on soldiering. Though I still new nothing of you “quiet professionals” I liked what I saw. When the sh@t hit the fan and we had TIC or good guys down the ODA was the first to offer assistance, on too many occasions. Great Ethos!

Once I got back from that tour I set about my research of the 1st SF Regiment, again I liked what I saw. The creed, the small team emphasise, the team set up, the 18 series MOS, the ethos, the overall will to succeed and unrelenting professionalism that the Regiment displays is very appealing to me as a soldier.

Now, I am not one for big bold statements so I’m not going to sit here and tell you how I’m going to breeze through SFAS or start asking you bone questions about the housing at Bragg before I’ve even past the ASVAB, nor am I going to start asking you for some super secret way in witch I can somehow get through the Q course and to a group, then live off the reputation of others, without having to even break a sweat.

What I am going to do is work my butt off to CONTINUE THE FIGHT…

Both my brothers went USAF (my brother joined in the 60s; the other just enlisted). I joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary after 9-11. I have a BA in Political Science.

I live in NYC. I'm a writer; right now I'm working on a comic and a graphic novel with a friend.

That's all for now.

Gentlemen and Ladies,

My name is Michel, I am a CWO 5 currently in the Marine Corps Reserves, although I have spent my fair share on Active Duty. I am sure there are some quiet professionals out there who can vouch for who and what I say I am. Anyway Since 2001 I have been deployed to Iraq (4th CAG (attached to BLT 1/2)), Deployed to Djibouti Africa (supported CJTF Horn of Africa and CJSOTF), Deployed as a civilian Member with the Army Contaminated Equipment Retrograde Team in support of Enduring Freedom attached to JTF-82 (I can't remember if it was CJTF), Intel Officer, and currently a member of a Mobile Training Team with Marine Forces Europe ( supported SOCEUR last year during FL-07). I've been an infantry weapons repairman, infantryman, Tank Plt Commander, Infantry Plt Commander, Intel Officer, Maintenance Officer, and a translator.

I came across your site while researching a poser. By the way if there are any members from class 001-72 I would like to communicate with you concerning this poser. He has way to much bogus crap coming out of his mouth, and I think that he has seen one to many John Wayne movies.

I would like to thank you soldiers for allowing an old salty Marine to become a member amongst this elite group.

Good day to all,

I am a 15 year veteran of a Commonwealth army, currently serving as a G2 staffer. I am mostly here to learn, not to upset the excellent camaraderie and team spirit I have seen on this site.

I also want to say " thank you" to all those who have served, are serving and will serve on the front lines, wherever they are. You and your service are special and deserve recognition...even those who for the very best of reasons cannot be recognized in public.

A very special greeting to Sgt Gary Baura of the SF, who I met on his embassy posting in the Caribbean in the mid 80's...you are well remembered, Sir!

My team trained a battalion of iraq soldiers and then deployed with them to the syrian border. I also spent time in Ramadi working at the aid station and doing multiple missions.

Im here to learn from the best. I have another deployment coming up very shortly and need to increase my knowledge. Im deploying as a line medic which is not my usual position.

Thank you for letting me join.

Greetings gentlemen! First, I want to thank you for allowing me access to your house.

I have been reading many threads in various forums since registration and learning much.

I appreciate your service. I am truly in awe of you Quiet Professionals.

I'm almost 54 years old and have raised two fine sons who are most of what I can claim that I've done well on this earth so far, outside of my trade, which is a Lineman for an electric utility. (31 years of service).

I look forward to further learning and, hopefully, contributing to this site with my own knowledge/experiences.

Thanks again sirs.

Gentlemen,

I apologize if already posted an introduction before. I cant recall if I did since it was more than a few months ago and never followed through with interacting on this site as I am not knowledgeable of the many topics at hand and decide to leave them to the BTDT's and others in the know.

I am 20 years old and am considering a career os the SOF arena. I admire everyone here for their service and duty to our country and hope to contribute to this site in a positive way. thank you.

Hello all, and thank you for putting together a site that is exactly like the name "Professional". I have been in the army for 8 years now, I was stationed at Bragg for 5, and Eustis for 3. Bragg is where I was bitten by the SF bug. After a couple years I knew there must be something more out there, but I didnt feel my physical level, maturity level, or mental toughness level was ready to embark on the journey. I now work with several 18 series heroes, and it is amazing to watch them meet problems head on, and be able to work around them. I have been a supply guy for my duration in the army but I feel that I have more to offer the army, and my country then to sit back and chill behind a sham job. So the 2 deltas teamed up on me one day and brought up the idea of going to SFAS, instantly I was sold on the idea and have been training for it since. Because of obligations with my unit I have to wait to attend, but I plan on going in January 09.

So I will sit back, read, and try to digest the volumes of information you all have donated to this forum. Thank you for your time.

I'm a 23 year old 11B in the Virginia Guard. I've served in Afghanistan, Kuwait and currently Serving in Iraq. I am doing research and trying to find a unit close to home to send me to SFAS. And with missions dictating i'm working the hardest i ever have to get myself in shape for the chance to attend SFAS.

I have made a couple mistakes since i've been in the army and fear that these will follow me to selection. I have spent the past year doing everything i can to mature and become both a better soldier and person. I am looking for any advice on what i need to do to further prepare myself for selection and hopefully the q-course.....physically, mentally, tactically, etc. I am open for any advice.

First let me say thank you to all the quiet professionals for doing what you do. We don't need to go into detail regarding the specifics, but suffice it to say without you, our world would be a very different place.

I just recently joined this site after reading for quite some time. I am interested in learning much more. I am 28 with no prior service, but considering the Rep63 program. When I graduated high school 10 years ago, I seriously considered the Marine Corps, then decided against it for none other than my girlfriend. Turns out she's my wife now and the mother of our son, so it wasn't all that bad of a decision! At any rate, I've always had the desire to serve my country and it has recently resurfaced stronger than ever.

Professionally, I am involved in training others everyday, specifically in leadership development and coaching. I've been fortunate enough to obtain a Masters and Bachelors in the field and I feel these skills could be better put to use as a Quiet Professional. Physically and mentally I'm up for the challenge but need to approach the topic with my family.

I look forward to learning from everyone here, and hope to one day have the privelage of serving next to you.

Hi,

I'm Robert, currently I'm a college student but I'm graduating in December and I'm here to learn more about SF as a career path. I'm considering going the NG route so I hope to be able to talk to some people in that area through this forum. I also enjoy reading the discussions on politics and world affairs on the site. Thanks and I look forward to talking here with you!

TR's right, not the smartest thing to do. Didn't someone write a song about pissing into the wind and stepping on supermans cape?

Do I detect an individual that might be in need of "Special Attention" when he arrives at SFAS Jan 09?????

Maybe slip a Green Beret, complete with Group Flash, and maybe some Group Coins into his SFAS equipment bag just prior to inspection at SFAS?????;)

Learn to be the Gray Man. Now go and do PT.

I almost forgot about the handwritten letter he wrote to his girlfriend stating that SFAS and the Special Forces Qualification Course are just minor inconveniences on his path to becoming an "elite army killing machine". They’ll find that letter inside the already "fitted" Green Beret.

or he wakes up after a good drinking binge to find the new tattoo he got prior to starting SFAS. They love people with SF tattoos there. Just wait till he gets to SERE.

Thank you for allowing me in.

I have been a quiet observer of this board for nearly a year, and have now decided to tip toe in to see if I could have some questions answered.

I am a Canadian who has lived in the United States for a little over 10 years and am married to an American citizen. I am 29 years old with no previous military experience. I will try not to step on any toes here. Please know I extensively research things on my own prior to asking. I appreciate the opportunity.

Thanks again.

I am an officer of Marines nearing a decision point in my career. SF is one of several viable COAs.

In this board's parlance, I'm sighted in on my "25m target." Thanks to all of you who have helped with that: most of my RFIs were satisfied by the search function. But my job is not only to knock down my immediate target, but also to think two terrain features ahead. I'm quite comfortable making snap decisions on partial information...but when I can, I plan deliberately. I am here to get information as part of my decision making/deliberate planning process.

I came to this site a few weeks ago on a search about the SF. Since, I’ve read many wonderful posts. I’m very impressed with the content here and certainly with the soldiers who moderate this site, albeit, with an iron fist. In my 40 years of life, I’ve never seen a site moderated hard as such.

I was so impressed that I went to my local library 4 days ago and read 5 books on the Army SF. My favorite was "The Company They Keep" by Anna Simons. (I know, that endorsement should go in the library forum).

For me, I joined the Army in 1997 (92Y) and got out in 2000. The Army was generous in paying for my student loans I racked up for my undergrad and advanced degree. They offered me that perk, so I figured it would be a good contract.

I went in as and E-4 and left the same. I served at Fort Drum, NY, and it was WAY beyond what I would have thought based on my vision of what Army life would be.

I was deployed to Bosnia in 1999-2000 for a 6-month tour. Having been a civilian and figuring I’d just be a regular Joe and just do regular day-to-day stuff in garrison, I was shocked I was going in theater.

Nevertheless, I found the experience in Bosnia to be a great thing and (afterward) a positive thing in my life. I was sad to be away from my wife and son, but the Army calls. I ate great in Bosnia (kudos to the Army for spending lots and feeding us well.) God, it was better than eating at home, seriously.

Anyway, that’s my story. Again, in my reading many books and reading these posts, I am in AWE at what you QP’s do. If I were a billionaire, I’d lavish each or you with crazy money for what you do. Sadly, very few civilians know what you do for them. Alright, enough of the “you guys rock.” I know you don’t care for that.

Good morning Sirs, my name is Eamonn, and I'm a 16 year Junior old living in Maryland. This will probably be my only post for a while, as I'm considered underage here. Yes, I've read the stickies, even every post in the Rucksack in the Hall forum, so you know I'll be staying pretty quiet!:) I just thought I'd introduce myself now and get it out of the way.

I think I've got a shot at admission into USMA, but even if that's not the case, I believe I see my future as an officer in the Army, and I'll try to work my way up to SF. I enjoy soccer, am a pretty decent pole vaulter, and I prefer to stay in as best shape as I can. I've researched plenty already, and I found this board years ago, but I've only just become a member.

As an endnote I'd just like to add that this site is extremely useful, well constructed/organized, asthetically pretty nice too, and the 0 tolerance, no BS attitude is the way I wish all boards (and the world) were run.

Thanks for the opportunity to contribute, in even a small way. I'll try not to mess it up.

Did I not mention my other hobby? The one about staying quiet for a few months...starting now?..........

Thank you for the opportunity to post, gentlemen.

I apologise for posting this here. I know this is against the main rules for this particular forum, but it seems I am unable to reply with my introduction in the thread "Introductions III" so I have decided to put it here.

To get started I'm Jacob, 17 and a newly recruited Rifleman to the Australian Army (ARTC). I'm currently recovering from an achilles tendon tear that forced me off my feet and into crutches for the past few months now, though progress has been slow, I am getting back into my regular PT habits. Truly an honour to be among you all, as I myself hope to one day sit for SAS selection here in Australia.

Cheers lads.

Hello all,
I joined about a month ago and I am just now getting around to making my introduction. I am a 19 ear old college student, soon to be 20, majoring in Military History. I attend Virignia Tech and will be starting my Junior year in about two weeks. I am also a C/SFC in the Virignia Tech Corps of Cadets and will be the Regimental Medical Officer for the 08-09 Academic year. That basically means that I am in charge of the EMT squad within the Corps and the medical well being of the New Cadets during their training. I am also an MS III cadet in the Army ROTC Unit at VT. Ill be commissioning int May of 2010 hopefully branching MP, Armor, or Artillery.

I am mostly here to gain knowledge from reading the post, but also to hopefully to have osme questions answered. For my degree I have to write a 50 page thesis paper on a subject in/related to military history. My plan was to write about the involvement of the Green Berets in military conflicts isnce their beginning. I hope to ask some of the Quiet Proffesionals some questions for my thesis paper.

Welcome aboard, however if you are here to develop information for your paper, and you expect to get a passing grade, you need to brush up on your spelling and English skills. If you are interested in branching MP, Armor, or Artillery then why don't you develop your paper around their contributions to the military. I would think that might assist you in preparation for your entry into the service.

Figured I would post up an introduction as I have been lurking for long enough.

Served 7 years in the Air Force bending wrenches on C5's out of Travis. Grew up an Army bratt to an 11H so I have a soft spot in my heart for you crunchy types.

I am a military history geek and enjoy the smell of nylon and old canvas tents.

Hello, I'm an 18X, shipping in Sept 08.

I have a background in rock and ice climbing, wilderness medicine, general outdoor trip leading (worked in that industry for 4 years), and shooting... pistols mostly (IDPA master class on a good day). I worked as a range officer/ sales associate for just under 2 years.

I'm here to learn as much as I can, before I start the pipeline.

Hello, I have been attending a military boarding school called Howe Military School in northern Indiana. I've been looking for information on Special Forces because that is what I want to do and I never jump into something without knowing about a little about it first hand. So i would like to say thank you for making and contributing to a website like this so us younger people have a much wider base to make a career decision if we decide to chose this one or one like it.

Hello, my name is Chris. I joined the army in 2005 on an 18X contract. I made it to the end of the Charlie course but I was young and immature and didn't pass the final test. I was sent to the 4/25th in Alaska which I think is what i needed to grow up. A year later, I am now trying to get back into the Q to finish what I started. Thank you for allowing me to join and gain knowledge and advice.

Nice screen name.... the jackal was a terrorist, a coward and a bottom feeding scumbag that was finally tracked and caught by a former member of the US Army, Special Forces.

That Special Forces member is on this website.

"Hunting the Jackal" by SGM Billy Waugh, go get it and read it. And after you do, think of a new screen name.

Hello. I will be graduating from college next year and plan to go the 18x route. I have no prior military experience but am trying to research as much information as possible to help prepare myself ... which is how I found this site. This country has really given me a lot. I moved here in '89 due to the civil war in my home country. Since then, I have been given everything from citizenship to grants to help pay for college, etc etc. I really hope I can give something back by serving in the military.

Hi! I am from the Houston, Texas area. I joined the Army on 20080805 and I am in the Delayed Entry Program for 290 more days. I am 21 years old, married, and I am in my senior year of college graduating in May. I ship out for BCT on the 20080527. My MOS is Infantry and I will be attending jump school as well. In my contract I got 11x40, the Ranger School option. I intended on going in 18x, but I changed my mind because I thought that going through all of the steps to get to SF would make me a better soldier. I know that SF recruits so I will be keeping an eye out. While waiting to graduate and ship-out to boot, I am running...running... and doing some more running and boosting my push-ups, sit-ups and pull-up maximums. :lifter I joined the Army because I want to serve my country in its time of need like my family has done before me! I want to be able to give a soldier a break from the line so they can be with their family and loved ones. I thank you guys for serving our country. I look forward to learning from the information posted on this forum! Thanks

I would like to humbly introduce myself to the Staff, Quiet Professionals and members. I would like to Thank You for allowing me to be a part of your community with the vast amount of knowledge available here. I have been reading non-stop for the past few days...LOL!! I actually got a headache from reading so much last night!! But this site has so much quality information and the Quiet Professionals and Staff here have been so helpful with all my inquiries. The long story short is: I have been a 19D(Cavalry Scout) most of my career. I have 3 deployments, the last of which was to Iraq OIF '05-'06 and ran missions out of Al Taquuaddam(TQ), but spent a few months at Corregidor, Ar Ramadi, Fallujah, Baghdad, and was literally all over Iraq. I was originally running missions with a PLS platoon and volunteered after the 1st month to run missions with 101st out of Corregidor. I got back from Iraq and was sent to OCS by my BN CMD. Now I am the PL for a Stryker Platoon of Scouts. SCOUTS OUT!HOAH!! Love Wearing that Cavalry Stetson w/ my Spurs!LOL!

I have always been one to challenge myself as a soldier and as a man. I recently have enrolled in Ranger school, but plan attending SFAS and SFQS immediately afterwards. I am not a "tab chaser" or anything of the such, I just want to be the best soldier and leader I can be. I beleive with Ranger School and SF training, I will be one step closer to acheiving this. I have the utmost respect for the Quiet Professionals and I hope one day I can have honor and priviledge to walk among your ranks.

Almost forgot: 12 yrs TIS; 6 yrs Active

My apologies to everyone for the lack of information I provided in my first introduction. I am non prior service looking to join the National Guard as a 68W with the hopes of one day pursuing an 18D position. I understand the 19th offers a "tryout" or a selection day to see if an individual possibly has what it takes to become a special forces candidate. Can anyone give me any specifics on the N. California tryout?

I think the QPs will be all over you in a second, but hopefully I can save you some grief. Look in the section of the forum: SFAS(Special Forces Assessment & Selection) and it will tell you everything you need to know. I would hardly call it a 1 day tryout though. Also, you can check out the Special Forces Website and it will detail the training and everything you need to know. Here is the link:

Click on "SF Training Overview"....Now to get "Back In My Lane"...Hope that helped though.

I'm not putting my last name and anyone that was in A/2/7 in the 90's to 2001 should know me. I'm Dan M. and was the medic on 744. Team SGT's Roy S. Izzy A. Glenn F...I was sent to SWCS and taught at the NCOA. I was the last to teach Black and white photography, then IPB, then the medic course when they had it. I'm back in group now at Group Med with Brendan O. I've been around for a couple years so I guess that's it.

I'm not too far from Roanoke Rapids and the 20th and have been giving a lot of thoughts to going Guard and pushing for Selection. With that said at this point in time I'm not ready to make all the necessary sacrifices and until that point comes, I'm here to learn as much as possible. Served 6-years in the USAF as EOD. Single tour to Iraq in 2005 and served at Kirkuk AB, FOB McHenry, FOB Speicher, FOB Bernstein, and FOB Wilson. Currently a civilian and looking into Special Forces with A Co, 2nd Bn 20SFG(A). I learned a lot in my enlistment but found myself sitting at my desk and wanting more out of military service. My research and experience lead me to believe that the SF way of life is one I should be pursuing. I would also like to choose where I will be stationed and since I live in Chicago, the unit here from 20th Group appears to be my best option at the moment. Thanks for putting this website together and letting Noob's like myself come to share in the wealth of actual operator's and their personal experiences.

My name is William. I'm 23, from Texas, and have an interest in joining the Army/SF through the 18x pipeline.

I will sign up in the summer of 2009, after my obligations to family business this year, and then an extended stay with my fiance' in Germany and Italy early next year.

I've been cruising this forum for quite some time; reading, reading, and then reading some more. I am grateful for this site, the professionals running it, and all of those who provide input. Thank you.

My plan is---I will continue to read and train. I'm physically fit and promptly attained a college degree after highschool.

College did not challenge me. Working in the constuction/materials business is not challenging me today. I suppose they don't mean enough on a larger scale.

I've had an interest in the military my entire life. I'm an avid hunter and outdoorsman. I am passionate about life and noticing right and wrong. I wake up and would rather shoot silhouette targets from a hill than sit at a desk or run equipment(I've called in sick to do so). I study languages, cultures, history and weapons as a hobby. I woke up. I realized what I should be doing.

I have a need to be around people who value wisdom/knowledge, shun ignorance/stupidity, and of course, love weapons.

This post establishes who I am and what I'm about. A real pleasure to be in your company on this forum.

Hello,
First I'd like to say, The first Couple of days I have Studied the Forums and My wealth of knowledge has been broadened, to say the least.

My name is Vincent, I'm 18 and I recently returned from Jacksonville MEPS. Everything went fine untill my Color Vision test, Witch I Failed. It never really crossed my mind because I've always Have been able to tell the difference between Red and Green even when used in different shades simultaneously. This in turn Hindered choices for an MOS.

I originally Wanted Infantry, however, due to the nature of the Situation I had to settle for a non-combat oriented MOS. I've always wanted to be a Ranger or go SF. I'm not going to let this stop me from doing what I want to do. I plan on seeing an Optologist to determine the Exact nature of my situation so I can Have a Re-evaluation Performed.

Hi, I’ve been coming to this site for about 4 months now and it’s only right I post my bio on here. My name is jay. I entered the army in 2003 as a 21B Bravo. I attended basic training at Ft Leonard wood, Missouri and was later stationed at Ft. Riley, KS. I deployed twice with the 1st Engr BN , once in 2003 and later in 2006. Shortly after returning from deployment I decided Route Clearance and IED hunting wasn’t wasn't fun any longer so went to SFAS. I got picked up for French and 18C. I am scheduled to start the MIGHTY “Q” in Nov. I want to thank everyone who posts on this site, for all the insight, and also Warrior-mentor. Your book was a great help.

Hello All,

SF was the defining period of my life.

I met the challenge of the Q-course and serving on teams. I got to run around with Jordanian and Egyptian Commandos. I had something "that said more about you then you would ever say about yourself". I love my wife but, I LOVE being SF.

After I left active service (you can check my profile if you want) I was a banker (started as a teller and made it to Branch Manager). I believed that banking was about helping people fullfill their dreams (The current mortgage crisis breaks my heart). I also learned that noone whines louder then a teller with 5+ years on the teller window. My daughter was born in '93 and I figured out that there was a reason I was still on this earth. When she started school I returned to school and became a teacher. (She was too precious to leave her education to some stranger). The rant starts here: I believe the real problem with school today is not the kids, the parents, the school board, curriculum or "society". The real problem is : most teachers went from the 'back of the classroom" to the "front of the classroom". Most teachers have never done anything but be in a classroom and they loved every minute of it. Since they have never left the school they never learned that the purpose of school is to do something when you leave. They are also incapable of understanding students who do not love school. The rant is over.

I sent my oldest son to Iraq just three days before "Mission Accomplished". (Like many of us I had to be "retrained and retested" on the Marriage POI.) I joined the California National Guard a week later. After a year of "one weekend a month" I went to the Readiness NCO and asked to be put on the " next levy no matter where it is going". I went to Camp Eggers in Kabul Afghanistan as a Force Protection Squad Leader. I had 2 illustrators, a water purification Specialist, a cook, an NBC guy, some mechanics and two mortarmen. It was the ultimate G-Mission for me! I had a blast training them and leading them. They were all "damn fine Infantrymen"when I was done. We really were the best on the camp and we owed it all to my SF training. Then I switched to anti-terrorism and mostly worked outside with the local nationals security guys. I learned to love Hescos! That was even more fun. In the off time I rode shotgun for the Civil Affairs folks, so I actually got to see Afghanistan. SF is fun but CA is winning the hearts and minds. Did I mention it was fun? Suddenly it was time to go home.

When I got back to CA we moved to IL. I found a nice home in an Infantry Company that was deploying back to Afghanistan this year. Wife noticed the grin and didn't even smile when she said that if I thought I was going she'd cache the body parts in so many locations they would never reassemble me. She didn't smile because she wasn't kidding! Well, dwell time is one thing but I can still help out, so they activated me to be the fill-in Readiness NCO. That's what I'm doing. (It's harder then it looks, too.) Our daughter is now in High School, my oldest is back in Iraq, our two boys are Little Leaguers -- the 6 year old wants to be a catcher! I do a little ski patroll (yeah, in Missouri -- so shut up!) I fantasize about going to Iraq as a PSG when our boys return and I'm not needed around the armory. -- I'm feeling a little long of tooth to go back to a team. Although I smoke the APFT! Oh yeah, and I'm getting a Masters in Math.

Hmmmmmmmm . . . was planning this to be a "hi and glad to be here" post. Got a little carried away. It is great to be able to reconnect with those that have berets, admire berets and aspire to berets. "IT SAYS MORE ABOUT YOU THEN YOU WOULD EVER SAY ABOUT YOURSELF".

I have missed you guys.

Hey Fellas,
My names is Allen and I recently graduated from the University of Great Falls in Great Falls, Montana. Since then I have moved to Southern Pines, North Carolina and am in the process of getting an 18x contract through my recruiter in Sanford. I just took the ASVAB yesterday and will be going to MEPS in about a week or so. After watching my father have an outstanding career in 10th Group I have decided that I want the same life for myself. I look forward to working with you fine gentlemen in the future!!

Also, I recently purchased warrior-mentor's book and am off to a good start with it. It's a gold mine of information!

I've been floating around here for some time now and I think it is about time for me to post my introduction. My name is Corey, and i am currently a Junior at New Oxford High School. I have always been interested in the United States Armed forces since i could remember. With many of hours researching I decided that the Army was the right path for me. I have the Honor of talking to a Special Forces Operitive for sometime now, Him being my Best Buds Dad. So Mr. ****** and I have had many of great discussions. This is a great site that I have stumbled upon and keep up the great work.

Hello all.

I really have nothing interesting to say given the caliber of folks that linger around here.

Did 10 years with the US Army as Infantry did the full Balkan excursion, but never made it to the desert, never made it to SF due to some complications that turned up during my physical for SFAS, which shortly there after ended my career. I did however get the honor of serving with SF folks, both real world and for training. The most memorable getting to play "the bad guys" for a WET training down in Frasdorf. Spent a week or so with John and Tom in the "house". Good times.

Anyway you all stay safe.

Greetings to All,

I have enjoyed reading on this forum for some time now and thought it about time to post an introduction. I was a GM in the Navy from 99-03, serving on board the USS Yorktown. I recently graduated from MSSU with a BSE, but instead of starting a career as a teacher I have started the application process for OCS; I have been married for seven years now and have two wonderful daughters. I plan on doing alot of reading here and not much posting unless I have something unique to contribute, also I would like to say thanks to all who set up, run, and contribute to this forum and make it such a quality site.

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a Spc. as 35F in the National Guard's 256th BSTB. I will be contracting with ROTC in December. As of right now my plan is to branch MI and do the job to the best of my ability. Once I reach 1st LT I plan to get into the pipeline for the 19th or 20th and go from there.

I'm here simply to read and learn from the forums. The only reason I may occasionally post would be to ask questions that I can find no answer to anywhere else. I believe in researching as much as possible before asking questions. God blessed me with two ears and one mouth to listen twice as much as I speak. The two questions I have are:

1. I read in another post on the forum that the 20th and 19th have slots at various levels for non tabbed O's. Are any of the intel slots for O1?

2. Do either the 19th or 20th have cadets within their support elements?

I think it would be helpful for me to have some experience in a SF unit before applying for SFAS.

If I'm out of line on anything feel free to let me know. I will stay researching and learning for now.

Short life story, Grew up on and around Ft. Bragg. Dad was 82nd then 7th Group. Chances are I know somebody here. Loved being around the military and specifically being around SF. I look up to my dad in every way and have always wanted to grow up to be what he is. Dreamed of being SF ever since I put my dads Beret on as a kid.

Currently in college studying to be a zookeeper. Before I pursue that I want to join up for a few years at least, but knowing me and how I loved living around the military, probably longer.

And that is about it for now. Great site, im already learning a lot.

Hi, thanks for allowing me to join your forum. I'm a former LRS trooper from the 1st Cavalry Division ('87 - '91), and a commo guy from HHC 19th SFC(A) ('91 - '92). Now I'm a Manager at a local Native American casino here in Phoenix, AZ. I've been approached to return to group, but find flying out to SLC a little taxing on the paychecks, so I'm seriously considering a local Civil Affairs unit. I look forward to any new deployment info. that may help me out in the near future. I have a great sense of humor, and thick skin, so any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!

First thank you for allowing me to join your site. I am non-military. I am however a strong supporter of our military and appreciate the sacrifices that all of you have made. I have been lurking on your site for a while now but decided to join mainly to access some of the links and pictures that have been posted. It's refreshing to hear the perspective of the BTDTs rather than hearing things from the media. I doubt that you will ever see me post and if I do I will make sure to follow the rules. Thank you again.

My name is Derek. I am a civilian. I am currently working in the private sector while I reassess my initial career goal to be a professional academic specializing in American diplomatic, military, and naval history. (I am a dissertation away from a Ph.D.)

My interest here is to learn what I can about the special forces community.

I understand that on this forum, search is my best friend and that it is likely the best contribution I can make is to remain silent.

My name is Ben, and I am currently serving a 15 month deployment in Iraq, with about 4 months left to go. I am a 63B and am in a Shop Foreman position. I have been fortunate to have lots of time here to really concentrate on my PT and doing specific things that will enable me to make it through SFAS not only physically, but mentally as well. I have the book from Warrior-mentor.com, and have read it a few times. I have also purchased a handful of recommended reading and listening materials that are contained in that book. The audio CD's from LTC Dave Grossman are great!!! I live in Fayetteville and will be talking with an SF Recruiter when I come home on R&R soon. I reenlisted for four more years just a few months ago, and I plan on making a career out of the Military. That is all I have for now and I look foreward to be able to serve as an 18C some day.

I look forward to learning from all of those professionals who have been there and done that, so I might emulate their success. I will keep my chatter to a minimum. Hello and Good Morning,

My name is Joe and I am a law student in Florida. I went to SMU for political science and I transferred there after two years at West Point. It was there I became friends with my class president, a prior service commo guy who had been attached to a group in Afghanistan. His commentary on the caliber of men he served with is the reason I am here.

I left West Point in good standing on my own terms. I was too young to understand the gravity of my decision to leave the Army and I have spent the last few years preparing myself to return, in some capacity or another.

I have enjoyed reading on this site and gettting a small glimpse into a world I find fascinating.

Thanks for allowing me to be here.

I am a Fire Fighter/ EMT who has recently witnessed that the motto on the opening page is true. Not just for terrorists over seas but also for persons that may be across the street, all are always training. Riding the Ambulance is a quick way to find out that there are many people out there that don't care about well being of others. Therefore I train and research constantly on ways to protect myself and loved ones and any question I ask here is for that purpose alone.

I appologize for not following protocol and I hope I can be forgivin.

Thank you,

Hello,

I appreciate being able to join this forum and being able to take part in some of the discussions here. I am currently in the final months of my second deployment. I am an 11c, but am currently doing Intel/Economics for my company's AO since mortars are not needed. I recently turned in my volunteer statement and plan on going to SFAS in February. I want to rise to a challenge and push myself in ways that the regular army or the civilian world can't. I want to become SF as a means to gaining that sort of unparalleled personal satisfaction. I want it.

As of now my 25m target is conditioning my feet and back for SFAS. I have hit the gym for the entire deployment but realize I am going to have to shed alot of what I put on in order to be in the best physical shape for SF.

Thank you for your time.

Hello everyone, my name is Matt and I've stopped by this website on and off for a while now. Im a SPC with the guard in North Dakota in the 68W MOS. I've got a little over 2 semsters left of an exercise science degree with pre-med reqs, and almost just as important, one season of rugby left:D. Then, Im jumping ship for the active duty side of the house to see if I got what its gonna take to become an 18D. You're not gonna get a whole lot of questions out of me in reguards to Selection or "The Q" ("just embrace the suck and keep going" was the advice of a retired CSM QP I meet up here in the tundra). Although, from time to time I'll probably chime in with a request for some insight on getting the knowledge base up to speed for the 18D course... after a fine tooth comb inspection of the search feature. ( of course, that would be predicated on actually getting selected and getting an 18D slot). Thanks to all of you who have made a resource, like this one, available to us Quiet Professional hopefuls. My experiences, are few compared to most of yours and my knowlegde of the inner workings of Special Forces are about zero; that being said I'm not here to toss in my two cents; you'll get no advice posts from me. It's been my experience that you learn faster by keeping your mouth shut and eyes and ears open than trying to impress people with how much you don't know. If there is anything I can do or anyone wants to get ahold of me; I look forward to the conversation. Thanks again, and maybe one day I'll meet up with some of you down range-

My son was Mr. Rugby @ VMI ' 97. Played on All Marine Rugby Team, was a member of Ft. Benning team ( as a civillian ) and in the end became a Chiropractor. I can't tell you how much beer I have been responsible for in "helping "rugby teams.

At a wedding for a VMI classmate, a rugby game broke out on the parade deck, along with a keg of beer. Players took off the formal trousers and played in...well...boxers, white shirts, vests, etc., etc. The game was interrupted by campus police because there was beer on the parade deck, set a bad picture. Keg was moved to Moody Hall...game resumed. Go figure.

Best of luck!

No one in SF will give a rats ass about your political or religious affiliation, not unless you decide to open your trap and tell everyone like you did here.

You also do not know us and have not read enough to form that opinion.

I've little doubt there is more than one atheist, agnostic, wiccan, pagan etc etc etc in SF and on this board, but , unlike you, they don't go around advertising the fact.

I suggest you read more and post very little.

Joe:

There are 62 threads here mentioning Libertarians.

I used to vote Libertarian every time it was a Lib candidate running against just one of the other two parties. If it was a three way race, I always went with the Repub, because the Lib was going to lose. Same at the national level. A vote for a Libertarian Presidential candidate is a wasted vote, and will probably help get the Socialist, I mean Democrat, elected.

Many people in SF border on being Libertarians. In fact, if I did not like good roads, quality public education, and a strong military, I might be a Libertarian.

Starting out by bringing up politics AND religion is not a good SF type approach.

Food for thought.

Well, I have been cruising around on here for roughly a year now, and decided it was about time I made an introduction. First off just let me say that to the Quite Professionals that run this site, I am truly appreciative that you do so.

My Introduction:

My name is Jake, I am currently 19, will be 20 in October. I have been interested in the Special Forces lifestyle since I was a child, but only in the last two to three years have I begun to truly delve into researching it, creating a stronger desire in me to pursue it, stronger than anyting else I have ever felt in my short life so far. As strong as that desire is however, I am pursuing this against the wishes of all my family, but still with their full support at every level. I have many reasons for wanting to do this, but I will only elaborate if someone asks in order to keep this short. I look forward to gaining more knowledge about the Special Forces world and am incredibly grateful that the wonders of technology allow something like this site to exist, as well as many other resources and tools, to aid individuals such as myself on this road.

I know I said I was trying to keep it short, but I wanted to get a good, thorough, but quick introduction in here.

Again, thank you.

First off thank you TS and TR for pointing out my mistake, since I managed to inadvertently make an unnecessary and unfounded comment about the members of this board, for that I apologize.

Second, about posting my political and religious belief they are things I find to be important about me, but perhaps this was not the best place to post them.

TR I do agree with you that in a three way race a vote for a Lib is a vote wasted.

And once again I apologize for the mistake I made in my first post, I should have read more before posting.

I'm going to go out on an assumption here, but I am GOING to guess that he is talking about the "Prior Service" 18X program we had back in circa 1990. If a prior service member came back in the Army and passed SFAS then he was put back into service in the Q-crs, if he failed SFAS then he was sent back to civilian life. This is true and verifiable.

Hi my name is Mike. I have a son currently attending the "Q" course. The Army is not new to my family but SF is. The information at this site helps me to understand what he is going through.

Thanks again

I'm going to go out on an assumption here, but I am GOING to guess that he is talking about the "Prior Service" 18X program we had back in circa 1990. If a prior service member came back in the Army and passed SFAS then he was put back into service in the Q-crs, if he failed SFAS then he was sent back to civilian life. This is true and verifiable.

Roger that Sergeant...

The "pipeline" at the time was BCT (for prior USAF,USN/USCG, n/a for prior Army or USMC) as an E4/SPC, then jump school, SFAS, PLDC (if not already attended) then the Q. Similar to SOPC, there was a two-week "pre-SFAS" held by ARNG QPs based at the ALC camp out near Lobelia.

IIRC promotion to E5/SGT came automatically after passing SFAS and PLDC. Another IIRC was if the recruit completed SFAS, but was a non-select, they would be assigned to a line unit in their prior MOS as an E4. I have no clue what they did for non-Army troops in that case.

One of the things leading me to the site was curiosity about the modern-era pipeline.

Hello, I am a National Guard Infantry soldier. I have served since 2002 and I am currently deployed. I have deployed to Iraq in OIF I & II, I was also an OWT small arms instructor with TF SARG for e few years.

I have a small family of my daughter wife and me; we live in the south Texas area. My daughter is only a few months old and I have only seen her for about 3 weeks of her life. I am looking forward to redeploying back home and spending some time with her.

I joined Professional Soldiers, b/c I was directed this way from another forum (known as being across the street) I have the same user name there. I had asked some questions in regards to 19th and 20th SFG and was directed here by Crip.

My goal here is to learn more about C 5/19 SFG and the process of prepping for SFAS and learning more about the requirements and SF community.

I hope this introduction is sufficient, if not please PM me and I will adjust fire as needed.;)

Thank you,

J.A.B.

Hello, I am a civilian army brat who has an interest in military history and literature. I am a bond trader in Chicago. I majored in Economics and minored in Asian Studies, and have had several courses in Asian history, one of them the Vietnam War. That led me to this site. I did join this site a few years ago as my last visit was back in 2006, but some recent literature and my donation to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation made me revisit here today for a proper introduction. Thanks to all!

Hey everyone, just to introduce myself my name is Bill and I am a 23 year old male. I graduated from Montclair State University in 2007 and have been working at a Big 4 accounting firm since September 2007. I have always wanted to serve in the military, specifically SF, however after my older brother went to USAFA and began his career in the Air Force, I figured one family member being in the military was enough for my parents and decided to pursue the business route in college. After finally not being able to turn away from what I believe is right for me and what I truely want to do anymore, I have decided I want to go through with serving. I look forward to reading and learning more about SF from this site and thank you all in advance for any insights provided.

Have functioned as Patrolling, General Subject, & SERE (taught the 1st course

Cpt Kate (may she rot in ****) Wilder and earned one of my nicknames
"Bun-Buns 2". PCS to Panama, where we assisted at School of the Americas,
visited El-Sal several times, PCS to Ft Douglas, Ut to work w/ AR & NG for
Idaho, Montana, & Utah. Only 11C so most of my time was spent w/ the ACR
(Oh how I dislike the 4-deuce) & very little w/ the 19th SFG(A) (who were the
reason for a "11C4S" to be assigned at Readiness Grp). Rtn to Bragg after
the Auto-Reclass that was 18 Series (SF shot ourselfs in the foot w/ that one)
and got rear-ended/injuried my low back, 1st Bn S-3 SGM thought I was
a "maligerer" so he sent me to work at Spt Bn, when I rtned he was B/1/7 SGM
and wanted me to be the Company Ops Sgt, I refused & tranx to C/1/7's Halo
Tm. Earned two more nicknames, "SGt Gaget" & "Gravity Master". After 'Wag'
left most of C/1/7 and all of B/1/7 back to pull Spt for "Operation Just Them"
(mass exodus ensued fm both B&C/1/7), PCS'ed to El-Sal and became one of
the "55". When I rtned to Bragg, Luthy wanted me to be the S-2 NCOIC
(watched the last two have to retire to get out of that job), so I saw my old
Bn SGM (3rd SFG SGM) to get a job, A/2/3 Halo Tm. While on Emergency Lv to
rebuild the bathrooms in my house, w/o notice, the Company SGM moved me
fm A-Tm to be Company Ops Sgt (just couldn't get away from that job) after
spending 45 day on a flat bottom boat (Company SGM's idea, USS Harlequin
Romance, an LST) trying to get to Haiti but spending more time floating or at
GTMO & touring the Leeward Islands, besides having to lose pay to go on
deployments, it wasn't "fun" any more & because of my lack of tact (calling a
spade a spade not a dark upturned shovel playing card) and the
LtC Hightowers that I had pissed off, I was not going to get a "Frontal
Lobotomy", so I put in my req for Retirement. Besides I was one rank higher

Hope that answers your ?'s, if not, ask me.

Hi, my name is John and I'm shipping out for OSUT at Benning under an 18x contract later this month.

I've been lurking for a couple months First to gather info while making a decision whether to go ahead with the IA program instead of trying for SF later in my career, and then later to research the best methods of training while waiting for my ship date.

Right now I'm tentatively planning on making a career out of the army (as much as anyone can plan on making a career out of something they've never experienced before).

My name is John YY is enough. I joined the army in May 2001 as a 13D and deployed to Iraq in 2003. I left the army from 2005-2006 and then came back in as an 11B. I am currently serving my second tour in Iraq and am working on a SF packet. I'm not the most web savvy individual and I plan on posting very little considering this sites reputation for zero tolerance towards wannabes like myself making mistakes on your threads. Greetings to all. I originally joined this site in FEB '08 when I was AD but it has been some time and I thought I should introduce myself. This site has been of great benefit, so I wanted to say thank you before I head out. I have spent the past four years with the 4th POG, and been on numerous deployments with both active and NG SF Groups, gaining some valuable insight and information along the way.

I ETS'd earlier this year and went directly from active duty into NG SF, but I am not fairing to well being a civilian soldier (although it is better for the family that I am home, I did not realize then how essential the military life was for me). So, I just finished my first semester of grad school for a degree in Military Studies for asymmetric warfare. . . It kicked my ass, but was well worth all the studying.

Currently, I am looking to enter the ranks of the Quiet Professionals with all the strength, humility, and hard work that I can bring to the table. I have an ATTRS slot (just waiting on orders) for SFAS and am totally and unconditionally nervous and excited about the upcoming class! So, many thanks, and I hope to check back soon with great news! Thanks again. . . .

Hello,

I am currently a college student majoring in finance. I came across this site researching SF opportunities several months back and have been reading through some very informative threads. I came across the book Get Selected here and currently am working on my PT. My favorite threads here are NousDefionsDoc's Training the Mind and many of the scenarios.

I took the ASVAB exam at Fort Hamilton earlier this week, and although I do not know what my composite scores are, my recruiter informed me I got a 95 on it. My next steps are going to the physical, completing the SF86 for a security clearance, signing the 18x contract, and finishing the semester at college before I ship out.

Hello,

I want to say how thankful I am for this site; it's been an invaluable resource in preparing to take the plunge, as well as an affirmation that I am making the right choice. After college and a few years of the 9-5 life, I'm committed to go after the thing I've wanted since as long as I can remember via an 18X contract. I'm currently going through the PRK process and am looking at 6 months before I can go to MEPS, which I am using to get prepared.

Hi I'm Mark.

I've been fascinated by SF since back in the day when talking with my Mum's boyfriend when I was 11-14. He served in the Royal Marines, SBS, and at that time he was working in Mogadishu for a security firm. He would send me photos and letters and tell my about doing HALO jumps, explain how come he was on crutches or had a bloody dressing to his forearm. I loved it. I was set on joining the Marines during that whole time, and all I would do is train for it. Everything was in preparation. I would camp, do ruck marches, I competed in the Ten Tours (camp, hike, navigation expedition on the moors in south west UK).

Anyway, not too long after all that I started smoking weed and doing other things. Lots of stuff my group of friends were doing I did avoid, I and suffered for it; but I've always been kind of "straight." I got away from "that scene" for a couple of years and picked up a UK version of an associates degree in Marine Science. I then slipped back into that scene.

I met my wife in a chatroom on the internet while working as a fruit and veg delivery driver/surf bum. I met my wife, in person, in London nearly 8 years ago and haven't looked back since. We just celebrated our 7th anniversary.

Since marrying my wife and moving to the US I have gotten my act together. I decided to become a nurse rather than enter the US military as I didn't want to be sent away from my wife. I took the ACT at the college here and realized that during my 7 or so years at school in England, I hadn't actually learnt English. I had to start with remedial English and math, but I worked my way through it and have not let my GPA drop below 4.0. I passed my nursing class top of the class and received a plaque and a scholarship (I'm pretty proud of that :D )

A year into my nursing career and I am bored. I have never really been into civilian life. To me it has always appeared the same as a field of sheep. I have considered the military so many times in my life and have talked to recruiters in England and even when I first got to the US. The mistake I think I have made in the past is when the wave comes over me to join the military it is fueled by the passion to become a soldier, to fight in battle, to live the adventures and hell I have read about in books like Bravo Two Zero, but when I get to the recruiter's office I have the mindset that I better enter with an MOS that will allow me to work in civilian life such as engineer/electrician etc. rather than trained killer. When I talk with recruiters about such MOS's I get really put off and decide that it's not for me. The difference is now I have that security in civilian life. I am a nurse. My wife has become more supportive of the idea (that's all it is right now-an idea), especially since her cousin's husband just signed up.

So, 18x? I don't know. I just turned 28 and do not have my citizenship. I could probably pull it off in time, but I am mulling with the option of joining as 11x with airborne in my contract and going from there.

A long intro, sorry. If you read it all, thanks, and to all those serving in military, thanks for your service. I know it is because of your sacrifices that we enjoy the life we do today.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to access this wealth of knowledge found on your website. I am currently on my fourth deployment and patiently awaiting my return to attend SFAS. Although I'd never trade in any of the time, experience, or people I have served with for anything I know that the "Regular Army" side of things is not the place where I find my calling. I know that the success I find in my future will be greatly attributed to not only the hard work and training I have been putting in, but to the knowledge written here by the Quiet Professionals who have taken the time to share just that. After taking the time to get to know the SEARCH option very well here, one can not say that the best tips, information, and just the great topics of conversation have left anything out but the simple task of just realizing if we spend a little less time browsing for the easy answer that we want to hear and work harder on preparing for a journey that only a select few of individuals even attempt, we may too share our knowledge on here as well. Thank you for your time.

Professionals of all traits~

My name is Ben. I headed off to USAF basic training April 2000, then up the road to the Security Forces Academy (Air Force Police) and then graduated August that same year. My three stations have been in Wyoming, Germany and North Dakota (Home of the suck). 18 months ago I graduated the USAF Combat Arms Instuctor course and on a daily basis along with 5 others I train the hard working folks of Minot, ND on weapon qualifications. I am 28 and personally I feel the calling of the Almighy God to follow my goal of serving others the only way an Army SF professional does. In February of 2009 I will be taking my 8+ years of blue and turning them into green and working the long road of the SF pipline. Thank you to those who had the insight to even put this website together and more gracious than that as to allow none QP to have eyes on.

With Respect,
