Hello, my name is Chad, I would like first-off to say thank you for the opportunity the Quiet Professionals have provided by this site and several forums. I have already learned a lot, and hope to to learn more in the future. I am a 26 year old USAR Soldier PMOS 38B who has always been interested in the SF. I come from a military family and have the utmost respect for "Quiet Professionals". Recently I have been going through a few career change options and was hoping to find some insight and/or guidance from individuals with real-time experience. Recruiters can most often than not, have their own agenda. I digress...I look forward to absorbing and retaining as much pertinent information as possible and will be doing plenty of reading. Thank you for your time.

Respectfully
C.H.

Hello, I my name is Michael or Mike hence my forum name.;) I am very interested in the SF way of life and I have recieved the answers to most of my basic questions and then some about the Quiet Professionals. I would like to thank each and everyone of you first off for your time and service to this great nation of ours. 2nd thank you for taking the time to provide us noobs with information that we would probably never have been able to find out without actually joining the SF ourselves;)

I am a new member to this site and I hope I will do this justice.
The reason I have sought out this site is for information and some kind of insight in what it takes to be SF.

My brother died February 9, 2005. His name is CPT Gilbert Munoz.
He is commander of a HALO team from 7th. Group. I would appreciate any info you may have or "stories" about him that any of you might have. I miss him terribly and I just need to know as much of his world as I possibly can.

I know that this is a site for past, present and maybe future SF men. Understanding that I do not fall into any of these categories, I am still asking for your help.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! I wish you all well!

Thanks for allowing me to express myself and ask that favor of you.

My name is Sabine, I'm not a soldier but I used to be married to one. I live now in Germany again, this little town that probably none of you have ever heard of, Osterholz Scharmbeck, northern Germany.
I have 2 kids, a boy and a girl, and my boy is really interested in the Army and Special Forces.
We got this side from a friend and if you dont mind we would like to read along and maybe ask a question every once in a while.
Thanks

I'll be up front and say that I'm not SF, and I'm past the point where I could realistically go that route.
As my screen name suggests, I'm a Field Artilleryman.
I spent the majority of my career preparing to fight the Krasnovians in the “high intensity conflict” scenario preferred by the big Army for so many years.
Then Iraq came along, and that experience served as a kind of epiphany for me.
Now I consider myself a student of Counterinsurgency.
I hope to learn from the experience here.

Greetings, All:

I joined this site quite a while ago, a few months before I actually went to SFAS; I got picked up, and between then (Jun 06) and now, I've been extremely busy with the Q Course, as you might imagine. I've recently completed Max Gain and the new Culminex, and we're headed out to the 18E compound for refit, end of course critiques, peers and the like. I thoroughly enjoyed the 18E training, and learned a ton of stuff in the process. We'll be heading out to Language Block III here in two weeks, and I'm confident I'm going to have more time to post here. I'll also be posting a bit more at my second home (airborneranger.com), where my nick is "longrange".

I have to give a shout out to Surgical Crike - drop me a PM dude, and we'll hoist a few brews. We were in Lilac Miller's Lang BL I (French) together.

Some basic info on me, just so you know:
BESD: 28 DEC 86 (yup, got my 20 year letter in Feb, still kickin' it)
Assigned : A Co, 2/20, ILARNG (Chicago SF)
Airborne / Air Assault / Drill Sergeant / CIB w Star - Desert Shield/Storm, OIF II / EIB / JOTC / Sniper / LRSLC PH I / and then some

SGT M. Welcome...good intro and profile....

This part worries me though:rolleyes:
:D

The main reason I was uninterested was because I didn't really know much about SF. And that recruiter sure did act a whole lot like a regular Army recruiter. Then his boss SFC B. spoke to me, gave me some better info, and now I'm getting divorced and going SF. (The wife wanted me to be stuck in perpetual unfulfill-ment.)

Gentlemen,
I've been hanging out for a while and finally decided to take the leap and post an intro. I was in 1/75 A co and HHC Oct 00- Oct 03. I couldn't find enough Rangers to hang out with :D so I had to come back in w/ 5/19. I just got selected class 06-07 and am looking to go back for the Q for the Sep class. Thanks for all the advice, now back to reading.

Greetings,
I have been a lurker on these forums as a guest for quite a while now and decided to finally register with my upcoming entrance into the United States Army.

A little about me. My name is Ryan, I am 19 years old, and on July 12th, 2007 I will leave my hometown of Wixom, MI for Fort Leonard Wood to begin basic combat training. I have signed up as a 68W with an option 40. Eventually I may attempt to pursue a career change to that of an 18D but that is not my main focus at this point in time.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the quiet professionals who run this site and enlighten us all in your free time. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and should not be taken for granted.

I will continue to make the most out of every opportunity presented before me and hope that one day I may find myself in the company of men as professional and motivated as those I have seen on this board.

Thank you again for your time. De Oppresso Liber.

I'm surprised that some of you know OHZ. It was a very small post there.
Is has gotten a lot quieter here with all the soldiers being gone. L.d.Clay is a german Kaserne now. I work in Bremerhaven and the post there is a big Container terminal now. I'm sure the ones that know OHZ also know Bremerhaven.
But there are some good memories there. ;)

I have been "lurking" for awhile, just attempting to learn as much about the SF community as possible. My son is an 18D, currently at Ft. Campbell with the 5th Group. This site has been really a great deal of help in understanding some of the training aspects of SF. Thanks for putting together a great site that helps us Civvies better understand the Quiet Professionals. I had the opportunity to meet several Quiet Professionals at the Blade Show in the Chris Reeve knife booth. Great people for sure and inspirational as well. Keep up the great work on this site...........I'll go back to lurking in the weeds.

Hello all,

I've been a soldier in the conventional Army since July 2006 (almost a year now). I'm 25 years old, by the way. Recently, I've been increasingly more serious about possibly applying to go to SFAS in a couple years. I'm in Military Intelligence (SIGINT), which I'm only semi-proud of. Most privates here did not join the Army out of desire to be in the Army (but I did). So some of them do not take stuff like PT seriously. I want to be the best soldier I can. I want to do intel, but MI isn't enough for me. I did some serious research into Special Forces, and I loved what I read. I want to go SF not because it's the toughest job in the Army, or for any possible recognition, but because it's what I want to do. I joined the Army in the first place because I was tired I being a civilian, and personally, I find working for money alone your entire life is a complete waste. I joined to make something of myself, to do something significant. I'm not here for the money. Although most privates here would never have signed up if it weren't for the money. My roommate can't understand why anyone who isn't poor would join the military.

SFAS, the Q-course, and the SF life, should I make it that far, will be challenging for me. But I am committed. Mentally, I think I'm pretty much there. It's the physical part I need to work on. Some of my disadvantages currently are low PT score (currently 220, but I'm going to get it up to 300, that's relatively easy), fear of heights (but I'm confident I can overcome it), don't have the best balance skills, and maybe a couple other things I can't think of right now.

From what I know, it looks like the obstacle course will be the hardest part, physically at least. I'll be sure to be in near the best possible shape before I give it a try.

Well, that's me. I'm going to give SF my best.

Hello everyone!

Been in the AF for a little less than 5 years. I spent the last 4 years in Germany and moved to just recently to Idaho. Currently I work in Communications, but that is all changing in the next few weeks. I was picked up for SERE Specialist and will be going to the INDOC course in July. After that I will PCS up to Fairchild AFB Washington and complete the pipeline. (Jump/Airborne). When faced with forced seperation from the AF, I started putting together plans to stay in uniform because I truly believe in what we are fighting for. One Was retraining into CCT or SERE, and if those fell through, seeing if I could get a blue to green program that could guarantee me the 11B MOS with Airborne and Ranger qualed (Don't know if you can actually get guaranteed a Ranger slot). That may still pan out, never know how this new job is gonna go!.
Physical Fitness is a lifestyle for me, do crossfit style workouts along with running, calisthenics, swim, and rucking. Gotta have the weight on the back.

Lots of great info and I look forward to learning as well as contributing.

I'm 24, graduated school last year, and currently working security. I am considering a career in the military. I'm originally from France but have been in the states for 11 years, and a US citizen.
I joined to learn more about SF, training/PT advice, and the 18X program.
My main interests are fitness, small arms and marksmanship.
Thanks to all, especially the QPs, for the useful information on this site.

Hello,

I have been in the Alaska guard close to 6 years. I have been deployed with them to Kosovo, Haiti, and now Kuwait.

Originally I wanted in the military because in the spring of 2001, I read Mark Bowden’s book, Black Hawk Down. This in turn motivated me to loose 100+ pounds to be eligible to join the Army. Unfortunately 9-11 happened before I was old enough to join (being on the cusp of 17) and my mother wouldn’t sign paper work to put me in the active army.

I figured I could back door into the active army thru the guard but wasn’t aware of having to complete Basic/AIT before being able to switch. Unknowing of many other options, I trudged on and completed Basic/AIT as a 15t.

I was still aspiring to be part of 160th all the way thru my second deployment. Upon return to Alaska, I worked for the Counter Drug Support Program while on stop loss for an upcoming Iraq mission.

The first Iraq mission never happened and resulted in our Haiti mission. There I was again placed on stop loss for an upcoming Iraq mission. When I got home and was told I had been taken off the list for Iraq. The unit’s reasoning was that I had already volunteered for two deployments and I should let a new person take my spot. I worked at the hanger for a few months until the money ran out for the fiscal budget, and then moved into a civilian job doing armed security.

Our unit lost an aircraft in January of 06 and I was told to come back to Anchorage to be a replacement for one of the deceased crewmembers. I was supposedly heading out. Well orders never came thru so I moved into bar security. Worked that for a few months and then deployed with our Infantry unit to Kuwait.

This third deployment has better shown me things that I now know I love and hate about the military. Here I have decided that it’s all or nothing. I want to work with the people I can trust, that are intelligent, and will be as loyal to me as I will be to them. So that being said, I am following the advice of a Professional Soldier and enlisting under the 18x program after this deployment ends.

I hope this makes for a satisfactory introduction and that you may be pleased with future questions/input I may have.

Thanks, Brian

Brian:

Slow down. There is no need to be in a "hurry" when you are posting on the web. The opinions of you, formed by others here, will be based on how you present yourself. You may want to think about that in the future. I am not saying your grammar needs to be perfect but you need to try. ;)

Also, using short cuts will only get you so far. Learn the language and use it properly.

Not sure if I did it before but here goes.

My name is Rudi, I am an IT specialist part-time and a substitute teacher in the secondary education field. I have taught elementary and high school for nearly 5 years.
Currently with the Corp of Engineers, doing IT work ( 25B).

Saw this forum from another friend and I like the different topics especially the mental ones.

I would like to someday try the SF courses or even qualify but I will need a medical waiver due to hearing loss. For now, I just deal with the IT stuff where I am and its pretty cool.

I guess the Army does takes care of it's own in a weird sort of way.

Anyways....

Hello Quiet Professionals,

My name is Chase and I've just recently signed an 18x contract. I ship out 20070807 so I have been using this time to ready my body and mind. I was in the process of reading "Get Selected" and went to this site as recommended. I'm glad I did and look forward to learning as much as possible.

I have a high school diploma and have 62 college credits. I was always taught owing money was a very bad thing so I decided to enlist in the army (something I've wanted to do since high school) to get more money for college.

I was always taught owing money was a very bad thing so I decided to enlist in the army (something I've wanted to do since high school) to get more money for college.I.

Welcome aboard Chase and good luck with the contract. If you don't mind let me make an observation. I gather from your post that your goal is to earn more money for college, leave the military as soon as you have obtained your financial goal, and go on to other things. If that is correct, then read on, if not pay no attention to what follows. SF needs folks that are willing to make a commitment to their life style, mission, core values, and goals. As this only comes with years of experience after training your short term outlook will not serve the needs of SF and especially will not serve the needs of your future team as they need your head in the game 24/7 working towards the same vision they all share. SF does not need folks with short term goals of "doing their bit" and getting out. While that might be an admirable goal for those electing to serve in other branches of the service, it is not something that is going to contribute to the overall mission profile requirements of SF. You might want to either reorder your priorities or seek another venue to meet you financial and college goals.

Hello, My name is Bobby Efurd. I live in Dothan,Al.. I graduated from the Q course in November of 1980. I served as a Weapons Sgt. on an A-Tream with Co. A 1/20th SFG. I was a police officer with the Dothan, Al. police dept. I was assigned to the police dept. swat team. I served there for 4 years. I left the Dept. to accept a position with the family business. I left the 20th in 1986.
during my younger years I was an advid skydiver, scuba diver and motorcycle racer. I had to change jobs so I could afford all my hobbies.
Now I run the business, ride my Harley and play with my two grandchildren.
Big change!
I will do a lot of looking and not much talking.

Chase:

I thought the same thing as JM when I read your intro.

There are easier ways to pay for college, and an 18X contract is a six-year commitment. Think about where you were six years ago.

As much as we talk about motivation here, if you do some searching (both on this board and within your heart), you will find that the financial benefits will not keep you a degree warmer, make you any less tired, heal the blisters on your feet and back, make your feet walk another klick, or fill your stomach when it is empty and you are out at Camp Mackall, busting your ass trying to get selected.

That sort of motivation makes you likely to quit SF selection or training and spend the rest of your six years in the Army as an infantryman. Nothing wrong with that, but I think that you are overestimating yourself, your chances of success, and your motivation for financial reasons.

Just offered for your consideration, not a personal atttack in any way.

Good luck and welcome.

Again, for the third time in two days, we do not do individual introduction threads here.

If you would take the time to read the registration message and follow the link, or to read the first sentence of the sticky "Attention...BEFORE POSTING HERE!!" at the top of this forum, you would not be making this mistake.

All introductions go on this Introductions thread not too deceptively titled, "Introductions I I I- Your first post on this board goes here."

Enjoy your visit.

Roger The Reaper and Jack Moroney, (Sorry I haven't figured out how to address you guys yet)

I plan on staying in the Army for a long time. I've wanted to enlist since high school but decided to go to college because I had already saved up money to do so (Started saving when I was 10 years old with birthday money).

I apologize, I should have included more information in my intro. I fully understand the commitment it takes to be SF and I wont just come in and jet. I am going to make this a career.

I just made sure to get the G.I. Bill in the contract so that when I do leave (possibly when I'm not on active duty) I have sufficient funds to finish a degree.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Hey all, I cant remember if I posted an intro (CRS ya know!) Anyway, I'm Bob and my screen name may give away my last name, but if not, oh well. Been reading some good stuff on here, alot of good info, current and historical. I am up in DOT -D now as the training developer for the 18E's, yes I do ACTUALLY work! I was in A/3/5 from 82-87(JR Commo) , Commo Committee from 88-91, (Commo Instructor), B/2/3 91-96 (TM SGT) and then moved to 5th in C/1/5, 96-99 (TM SGT) until I retired at campbell. Decided to come back to bragg, its kinda like rome, all roads seem to lead us here. Anytway, good to meet you all.

Greetings gentlemen. I am a Sergeant in the US Army, stationed in Fort Belvoir, VA currently. I'm looking into taking the SF route some time within the next year or two; I need to get my mental and physical readiness up a notch before I do it.

Hopefully I'll take a tip from the QPs and be as quiet as possible, while absorbing your valuable knowledge like a sponge. I've already taken in more info on the SF community than I have ever learned in one place. Less posting, more reading is what I intend to do here.

Thank you for operating this site, and thank you for doing what you do (or have done, in the case of retired/ex/fallen brothers).

Jeff here,

Did 3 years, all of them as 11B with the 1-325th AIR at Bragg, finishing up in June '06. However, after a year of civilian life and working miserable jobs just to pay the bills, I am strongly considering reenlistment.

Either way, while I spend my days doing PT to get back to the shape I was in, or better, I will enjoy just perusing this forum and occassionally conversing with likeminded people. I am more of a reader and listener than a speaker so don't expect the post count to rise too quickly.

I'll be attending the Virginia Military Institute this fall. My major will be in history, and my ROTC will be Marine. I'm looking forward to the challenge I'm about to face in my Ratline year, because physically I'll be prepared. But I believe being mentally strong is just, if not more, as important. That's where this site has come into play for me, because the character of the "quite professional" is slightly amazing. (lol) Thanks for having me, I hope to learn a lot.

I'm one of the moderators at TheHighRoad and was made aware of your site there. I concentrate on the Non-Firearms Weapons subforum.

I have never served in any branch of the U.S. military, but I have been a student of military history and of nontraditional units for nearly 40 years. I have been honored to have several friends and acquaintances who have served in these types of units from the old OSS to Navy UDT and SEALs , Marine Force Recon, Army Special Forces, and Air Force Pararescue.

Hi, my name is Jen, I am a student pilot in California.

I have actually come to your community here for some insight. I have been seeing a guy for a bit who will be trying out for Special Forces.

Due to our relationship being somewhat serious we have spent time discussing what his decision will mean.
His comment was
"Well, you need to look into what it’s like being the woman of a Special Forces Soldier"

Therefore I found out about this site and here I am.

After reading the introductory posts, I will spend quite a lot of time just reading thru stuff here.

I understand that I pretty much have zero to offer, but it is a real privilege to be able to just sit in the same community as 'Been there done that’s' (as my guy says) and just get a feel for what the Special Forces community is like.

As my guy describes what Special Forces soldiers do and have done, it never really occurred to me that there where men in the military that do this kind of stuff. I think it’s amazing that there are still men out there that will dedicate their lives for the cause of "De Oppresso Liber".

In appreciation for your site and your insight

Regards,

Hello all,

My name is Dean (call me Dino/Deano as that is what I am known as to my friends). I am looking for a new direction in life and SF appears to have what I want. I have always been an admirer of SF but for various personal reasons chose not to go down this path earlier. Fortunately I am very fit -- most of the strength and endurance requirements I have already met and currently meet (not bad at age 41). I am basically looking for ways to get into the SF selection process in the least amount of time. Advice from any SF soldier would be greatly appreciated.

I am a college grad with nearly 3 4-year degrees (Biology, Spanish, and PoliSci). I lack a token amount of classes to complete all 3. Also, I have mainly been self-employed during my life except for the last 3 years. I hope this information gives a framework for you to help answer any questions that I have on the forum.

Welcome aboard all.

Dino, you need to fill out your profile.

Frankly, SF team life is a young man's game and you will not have enough years remaining under a ruck by the time you are trained and earn the experience to be a good, contributing team member. We don't really need 43 year-old buck sergeants with no experience.

This has been flogged to death by others like you here. The Search button should direct you to all of those discussions.

IMHO, you have waited too long to act, but thank you for considering serving your country.

To those who are serving or have served, thank you, too.

This is a young mans sport. I hope you understand that. This site, however, will help you research what you may need to know. Cutting shortcuts will be on you.

Hello Sirs and respectable board users,

My Name is Matt, and I am 20 years old. I have been interested in the military since I was a kid, and for the last 6 years have been looking into Special Forces. I have been attending college in the time after high school in order to satisfy my parents concerns of rushing off into the military (as well as enjoy civilian life a little bit longer). I am currently interning at our local State's Attorney's office, and awaiting my paperwork to be processed by MEPS so that I can sign the 18x contract. It is my intention to sign within the next few days.

At the risk of brown-nosing, I would like to thank the Quiet Professionals for offering this board. It is a valuable source of information both for myself and others. Thank you again.

Respectfully,

Gentlemen,

I am a double major in history and Middle East/North African studies at UCLA. It has been my intention to become an elite member of the armed services for quite some time. I know that with steadfast determination and a consummate work ethic I will accomplish this goal. I've joined professionalsoldiers.com to gather as much info as I can before officially signing up. I've read the stickies, as well as numerous posts, and have extrapolated a thorough understanding of the way things work around here. I don't anticipate having many questions that haven't already been addressed, so pardon me if I don't post much. I would just like to say that I appreciate the wealth of knowledge that this site and others like it provide to would-be soldiers. I am sure that it will prove to be invaluable.

Thank You,

Hello all! I am a 91W or 68W now medic. I was first stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky. I attended SFAS class 07-05. I started the Q Course Oct. 19. 2005. In Jan 2006 after Phase II. I had the option to leave the course due to the grave health threat my father had encountered. I got sent to the 82nd, but decided to put my re-submittal packet in while I was deployed. The packet has been approved. I hope to be back in the course sometime March 08 since our deployments in the Regular Army have been extended to 15 months.

I have been to Afghanistan twice with 3 SFG. I ran a local national clinic on both trips and have been lucky enough to see things that most doctors in the states never get to see.
Look forward to catching up with old friends and making some new ones. Thank you to all of you who keep this site up and running.

Greetings, all.

I'm Constantine. I'm a civilian currently living in Massachusetts. I have no military experience whatsoever, but I'm going to be signing an 18X contract soon. I'm an engineer by trade. I've been arriving at this decision (and reading this site) for the past several months. This site has, directly and indirectly been the most useful resource I've found so far. By indirectly, I mean that many of the other useful sources of information I've found grew out of leads I've read here. (E.g. PS -> GET SELECTED -> The Company They Keep, Inside Special Forces by National Geographic, etc.). Thanks, everyone, QPs and others alike.

I am about to join the Army and my job of choice was M.P. My recruiter says that it is the best thing for me but in the back of my mind there is somethings I am not to sure about. The reason I picked the Army was because all through high school I went throught Air Force J.R.O.T.C and Army J.R.O.T.C and I have known my recruiter for the past 4 years and he seems like he is looking out for my best interest. I have done alot of career test and all of them lead my to the Army. I have a hard time getting really interested in any jobs that I can get right now being an 18 year old male right out of high school. So all my life I have wanted to be a cop because I grew up in a low economy and it seemed like the cops around there did not really do what there job descriction said they should be doing "SERVE AND PROTECT" I feel like I have seen the world from the bottom of the barrel and I can help people that are in the situation that I was in and the people around me where in when I was little. Well that is just about my story if you have any advise for me that would be helpful it would be greatfully appreciated.

You got two Jarhead combat tours and the best you could come up with is a user name that shows a lack of commitment? Are you going to tell me you lived through that shithole twice and you would let a cast stop you?

I once pulled DZ Medical coverage in a body cast from crotch to Adam's apple - only time I ever had a jumper hurt on one of my DZs.

Shit, I thought Marines were tough.

NDD never liked "Cast or Tab." It's from Ranger School, where a Cast gets you a ticket home...just like it will at SFAS (if you quit). In the SFQC, it gets you a long tour in Student Company.

"Do or Die." is a cliche...no real emotion behind it. Cast or Tab is just another way of moving your frame of reference.

Some of the real studs tough it out at SFAS and are in the final formation with "CAST and SELECTION."

So he's right, there's no reason to quit because of a cast, it's just a temporary set back.

Never the less, I still like the expression.

Just dropping in to get started. I've been reading a bunch here, namely in the medical section. There is some awesome information and discussion going on.

I'm a medic, I just left my cozy spot in the brad @ 1/1 Cav to play soldier @ Division. Not my cup of tea but I pulled a PSD slot and am somewhat happy. I'm here mainly to get my ducks in a row, get into some good info, and maybe make myself a little better at what I do.

Down the road, I'm working on my resume so I can hopefully fill a slot @ 160th.

Long ago... (I was in the first SFAS - right after SFOT changed the name)

I was on the last road march. Sat down to rest, and resting...

As an aside, I used to run ultra marathons and we had a saying - "beware the chair". Don't sit down to rest.

Anyway, I'm drifting downward into an abyss and here comes this triad of dudes moving with a purpose up the road. They were not rucking together per se -but they were definitely drawing psychic energy off of each other. If you've been there you know what I mean.

So I pull out a shred of motivation, fear, "Oh CRAP!" and jump up and turn that wedge into a diamond moving up the road.

I believe that saved me.

Any way, the sun comes up and we sort of break up the psychic bond and are moving at our own paces. At one point I see this kid (he seemed like it to me) that was one of the three and he is limping badly. He's from Batt and he is harder than woodpecker lips and hurting like hell.

I hang near him for awhile and try to put out some psychic encouragement - in my mind he helped me a bit hours earlier - even though he didn't try to. So I hang with him and try and get him to focus on my ruck and keep up. He does. Now I know this sounds like mumbo jumbo to some and you don't know me but I am the farthest away from new age philosophy as can be. I just don't know how else to describe this type of thing. And anyway, that's not the point of the story.

Long story short - he was standing in that final formation with me - with a cast.

Sua Sponte.

My name is Sean and I am a 1LT currently stationed at FT Lewis. A little about me: I am an Army brat. My father is a reitred 1SG, started as a 13B, then reclassed as a 92D. My mother was an Army CPT nurse and got out 8 months after she had me. I was born at FT Ord and lived at FT Belvoir, Nuremburg, and once my dad retired, we moved to his home town in western Kentucky about an hour north of FT Campbell. I had wanted to be in the Army since an early age and as I grew older and began to understand all the different aspects, I knew I wanted to be elite and at the tip of the spear, Special Forces. I picked Infantry #1, but got Field Artillery instead and have tried to make the best of it because I knew what my goal was and still is, Special Forces. I have read everything I can get my hands on, i.e. Masters of Chaos, Chosen Soldier, Get Selected...I could go on and on. I have looked for every workout possible to achieve a well rounded physical fitness level, currently using Warrior Mentor's 30 Days to Success regiment. I am currently in my window to turn in my packet, which I have working on for about 6 months now, tweaking every aspect of the resume at Bragg and now here at Lewis. Being FA is putting me in a small group right off the bat because the FA branch will only allow a certain number of FA officers attend SFAS and the last year group was only 20, so the resume is huge. The reason I joined this site was because it was recommended to me by Warrior Mentor after emailing him expressing my high opinion of his book and to also get any knowledge possible. I have used the search button many times in my short 24 hour period of looking at this site and have found a ridiculous amount a great information. I have also taken this short time to read through a lot of the threads and have found that this location is an outstanding tool for my kit bag, hell, it's a kit bag in and of itself. I feel that when time for SFAS does finally come, the only excuse I will have for not succeeding would be...no excuse, because we are all manufacturers, some manufacture good, some manufacture bad, while still others manufacture excuses. I hope this is a sufficent introduction and I want to say again thank you to Warrior Mentor for steering me here and that I am going to be a sponge from now until SFAS and after I DO SUCCEED, continue to be a student of this site and work to become a mentor.

Just stopping by to check out the site. I worked as an 05BS (ODA525) in 5th in the early eighties and then later in the early 90's I worked as an 18E (ODA 061) in 10th. I've spent a short time in 19th and 20th but nothing significant. I moved around too much as an A&P mechanic to get serious with one guard unit but I did retire with the guard. Now I set up photovoltaic systems for the National Park Service.

I'm 46, no military experience, and work as a mechanical engineer for a U.S. government contractor. Nothing HSLD, I just help make circuit boards for spacecraft and fill out a lot of paperwork.

It has been my dream to be an SF soldier since I was a boy living in Leominster, Mass., Where we had a neighbor that was an an SF soldier and the kindness he showed my family has stayed with me. I have read several books about SF including David Couch's latest "Chosen Soldier" and I am fully aware of what will be expected of me at SFAS, but I would still like to get little golden nuggets of wisdom from the experienced pool of SF soldiers on this site. I have read all of the SFAS threads. I have some additional questions that I would like to get answers to and maybe someone here can help. Hello all,

I'm 35 years old. I served in the U.S. Army in the early 90's as an 11BC2 ( Dragon Gunner). After leaving the military, I served as a Police Officer/Police Firearms Instructor, and in the private security field.

This website is an outstanding resource. The information I have garnered from this site ( along with GET SELECTED, which I learned of here ) has been invaluable thus far.

I am currently training towards the goal of earning a slot on a NG SF training unit.

Thank you to everyone here for your service, and for taking the time to pass along your knowledge and advice to us.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a guest in your forum.

As indicated in the screen name, I am a grateful citizen (no military experience).

On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you for your service and sacrifice.

We, the beneficiaries, will never fully know or understand the nature and extent of the sacrifices made.
While we cannot understand, we can offer our heartfelt appreciation.

The sheepdog may not seek the appreciation of the sheep, but from some of us who are aware, it is still offered.
It is appropriate.
The Sheperd commands it.
(Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. -Romans 13:7)

Additionally, thank you for access to this valuable resource.

As directed, I will use the search feature to avoid redundancy in posting.

Any questions will tend towards the "human" side of things.
(i.e. general principles and techniques of achieving success, teaching said principles)

I have little to offer in return for your sacrifices and access to your community.
(I dare not say "exchange", as the exchange rate would be in imbalance)

What I do have to offer is this:

1. I will honor your sacrifices in how my children are raised.
-Specifically, they will be productive, law-abiding citizens who will honor those who ensure the opportunities provided by living in this country.

2. Prayer.
I do not claim to have any special access to the ear of the Almighty, but one more person petitioning can't be harmful.

On a final note, the subtle humor demonstrated on this site is outstanding.
Some of it is difficult to understand for someone not up to speed on all of the acronyms, but much can be inferred from the context.

Again, thank you.

Hey,

I'm currently serving a tour in Iraq as a 19D (Cav Scout) with 10th Mtn. Div. I'm 26 years old, I was born and raised in Germany, got married and immigrated to the USA and then joined the Army. I speak fluent German and while some people argue that fact, fluent in English as well. I've been interested in SF for a while now but never made any serious efforts of going that route. I'm still trying to get more info, so here I am....

Gentlemen,

I'm 37 and have spent the last decade in the mortgage business. I'm married with one six year old boy, no prior service, and if all goes well at MEPS tomorrow, I'll be enlisting in the USAR and heading out to Ft Leonard Wood next week. I'll return after AIT in January to spend three semesters finishing my degree and then I'll be looking to apply to OCS. I have an idea I'd like to then make a career in the Army, but I'm taking things one step at a time.

Earlier this month, when my industry experienced a complete meltdown, I found myself needing to look for a new career. The original plan was just to return to school, but when the Army offered to pay for it, I jumped at the chance to not only get assistance in changing my career, but to redress a past wrong, which was not serving when I was younger. So I can't say that my motives are completely altruistic, but with a family, it wouldn't have been possible to serve any other way. I hope to do at least two things in the AR: 1) give my country a good return on its investment and 2) teach my boy that talk is cheap--it's the walk that makes the difference.

So that's a little about me.

I'm most here out of curiosity, but as I've read the posts over the past couple of days, I've also found this place a source of inspiration. Thanks for creating this board and thanks for everything you do.

Sincerely,

miscmike

Greetings Everyone,

My name is Ryan and I am currently stationed in Germany with the US Army as a Military Policeman. I am 21yrs old and a native of Southern California. I have completed one 14-month tour in Iraq as a MK-19/240B HMMWV gunner and my brief interactions with the Special Forces have inspired me to become one of the elite. The professionalism, courage, and dedication that they exhibited while operating struck me as a calling of some sort. I currently have an SFAS class date scheduled to begin OCT07 and I anticipate one hell of an experience. I have done a lot of research on this board prior to registering, and the wealth of information provided has been most helpful in my preparation. Good day to you all and I hope to interact with some of you as life rolls on.
