Gentlemen I am just introducing myself as per SOP. Solo is the nickname I picked up in my limited 2 1/2 years experience in the infantry. I've been back from a 15 month tour in northern Iraq for a couple of weeks now. I will be attending SFAS this month for the first short class. Luckily I happened on this goldmine of information. Thank you all for the advice I have already gleaned and for what still awaits!

Hello Gentlemen,

I am 19 years old and currently living in Heidelberg, Germany. Trying to choose between enlisting under the 18x program and going to college. I stumbled upon this outstanding resource while researching. Regardless of what comes first, it is my intention to some day serve among your ranks, as a quiet professional.

Thank you for your service.

My short and simple introduction is I'm an E5, 25 years old, and have been enlisted in the National Guard for six years. My most recent deployment was in Northern Iraq with the 20th SFG. While there I quickly learned that I didn't want to spend my whole career in a GSC support role. Not that support roles are not important, I just have a drive to do more with my life. I'm also thinking about going active duty. For me it's all in God's hands.

Hello everyone. I'm an E3, age 22, original MOS is 18X, training MOS is 18D, language assigned is Tagalog, and I just completed SFAS. I am heading to CLT in the next couple of days. A friend of mine recommended this site to me, as I was unaware of its existence, and I have to say that this forum is more helpful than many of our cadre. Thanks for all that you do.

To introduce myself, I am an Infantry Squad Leader, currently deployed to Iraq. Before this, spent awhile in Afghanistan. I have been in the army for 8 years, most of it on Airborne status, before I found myself on orders to leg land, but I will be changing that ASAP. I've enjoyed lurking around this site, and don't intend to do much more than that. Thanks to everyone for all the information here!

Razor,
Yes, I'm the guy who writes the blog. I haven't been posting lately - for a variety of reasons, I didn't want to post while I was deployed. I've been back for a while now, and will probably start working on the blog again soon.

Again, thanks for the opportunity to visit.

Hello Special Forces Soldiers, Servicemen, and civilians,
My name is Kevin, I am a Junior in High School and play rugby, water polo and swim competitively. I have been lurking around the site for some time; I registered in the event that I should have a question pertaining to a specific topic not found by google or another form of searching. I have always wanted to participate in the medical field, first-responder/trauma especially, and I feel that I should strive to serve amongst the best, for the best.

I am willing to answer any questions one might ask, so feel free.

Kevin.

I'm enlisting within the next few months for 31B. I've always wanted to be an elite soldier and hopefully I'll get my chance.

Greetings from, yet another, 18x.

My user name speaks for itself. I know 18x's get are a dime a dozen, thats why I dont boast it. Humility gets you further in life anyways.

I am currently an 18xray and I ship out for basic 2008/1/15, followed by the usual prereq training required before SFAS. I feel honored to have a coveted 18 MOS next to my name, but I also realize that the Xray position isn't the hardest thing to come by if you have decent, above average intelligence.......and that the work hasn't even begun to occur.

However, my aspirations are high. There isnt a quit bone in my body And staying in shape and self motivation is what I am able to pride myself with.

And its an honor to be associated with SF, let alone the Army in general.

That being said, I'll keep this short for the simple fact that is just an introduction forum. Feel free to look at my profile, send me a PM, or tell me if I left anything out.

Respectfully,
-Lakin

I just located this site and have found it to be very informative. It's great to see SFer's dedicated to helping others looking to take that step to becoming America's best. Thanks!!!

Sir, Not that it matters, but I would like to know as well. Seems as though you have not been to them all, since you still have to get selected and make it through the Q course in the advent that you Do get selected. At any rate, if you make it to your first team room, I wouldn't go trying to emphasize all the badgefinder bling........Most guys want to know if you can do your job, provide them topcover and not make them look bad while getting the credit in the process. Besides when you have been around guys who got all those badges 10 plus years ago, and on their 6 & 7th combat tour, its really a moot point. My $.02

Mainly here just to lurk around. But introduce I must, so I shall.

I'm prior-service regular Army and currently taking a break from the military to work on a graduate degree... but I've been looking at the 3/20th SFG as a possibility - if I can get myself back into decent enough shape to really consider it.

In any case, glad to find this site. It's a great source of information.

Good afternoon Gentlemen, I would first like to thank you for allowing me to join your board. I've been lurking around for a few months now, and I must say this has been a very valuable tool for me. I am currently an E-5 in the Reserves. I plan on re-enlisting as an 18X this up coming January (I am already getting my paper work together with my recruiter). I am a 25U with a very deep passion to become an 18E. Between hours of searching on this website, and reading "Get Selected for Special Forces" by Maj. Martin half a dozen times already I feel that I am truly receiving excellent advice and knowledge for what it takes physically and mentally to prepare for not only Special Forces training but to operate in the Special Operations environment. I want to again thank all of the QP's for the information that they share. Well..........back to PT!!!:lifter

Gentlemen,

I apologize if my introduction post came off as me being an arrogant officer. I should have chosen better word's to specifically convey my point. I am here on this forum to learn from those that have had the time and experience in a profession that I wish to hopefully one day become a part of.

I did not mention the schools I have attended in my initial post because I didn't think that it mattered. I think that LONGWIRE hit the nail right on that head and irregardless of how many schools or badges you have they don't necessarily make you a good leader or competent soldier. These are precisely the two things I am striving for in my military career, and why I wanted to join this forum. I want to be a good leader and competent soldier and could care less how many badges I have.

For LONGWIRE and SNAQUEBITE I have been lucky and blessed enough to have attended Ranger, Airborne, RSLC, and Pathfinder as a junior officer. As mentioned above I meant nothing by my previous post for coming off as an arrogant officer. I consider myself an ambitious person and want to better myself every opportunity I have in order to hopefully one day uphold the high standards that an SF officer should posses.

Thank you for your time and I hope that I was able to clarify the situation.

My name is Abraham,
I'm 23 years of age and a PFC 92G in the U.S. Army. I know "Dirty Cook", but these along with two other MOS were available to me due to the fact that I am a Resident to the U.S. so security reasons I was only given three options. Since I like to cook then I chose this MOS.
My wife used to be in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Bragg in 05 and that’s when I first heard of Green Berets. I went to the gym off Longstreet and then hit up the track after I was finished. There were two guys running on the track when I got there. Long hair, in good shape and they were jogging at speeds that some would consider sprinting. I told my wife about it when she got off work and she replied with simply this, "They were probably Special Forces". Those words were had sank into me like nothing I had ever heard before. After that I would stop anyone with the Special Forces Tab and ask them questions about school. The one thing that they all had in common and that I really admired was that they were all down to earth and polite people. Now that I am in the Army I notice that it’s hard to find people like that. About a month ago there was a PV2 calling our Supply Sergeant a Fobbit cause he didn't go on convoys. Our Supply Sergeant just looked at him and smiled. What the PV2 didn't know that he has three deployments and was deployed with all this kicked off. Everyone that I come across feels like a badass having done nothing worth mentioning. The guys from Special Forces were modest and knew that they didn't have to talk the talk because they walked the walk one a daily basis.
On another occasion, my wife and I went to Pets Mart and I noticed a Maroon Beret in a shopping cart that was left behind. The flash was the Special Forces. I asked my wife what it meant and she told me, "Liberate the Oppressed". I'm not going to lie, that really hit me like a ton of bricks. I took it off the beret and kept it and still have it till this day. Well now that I'm in the Military I know that becoming a Green Beret is a gruesome task but not impossible. That’s why I am here to get as much info as I can before I get my citizenship and enter my packet.

Hello all,

My name is Nick and I am currently a freshman in college, enrolled in Army ROTC. I originally wanted to enlist right out of high school, but my parents would not sign the necessary paperwork, so I decided to join an ROTC program until I figure out what I would like to do. Recently I have been looking more into the 18x enlistment option, and so far this forum has been a great resource of information. Even if I decide not to enlist, and instead go through ROTC for a commission, I one day hope to be a part of SF as an officer.

KiloNovember out.

Good afternoon Gent's.
My name is Joshua and I am currently serving in the National Guard as an 11B. I've got about two years of school until I get my B.S., and then I'll be going to the Active side of the house specifically to become a Special Forces soldier (enlisted). I've been lurking this site for a while, and have gotten some great information.

On the civilian side I like beer, cars, and women; not neccesarily in that order. I've taken up skydiving as my new hobby, but it's getting pretty expensive very quickly so I'm putting it on the back burner for SCUBA diving. I enjoy running and have ran in a few half-marathons for fun. I also plan on becoming a luthier for a hobby, and I love collecting guitars.

Thanks for having me.

Hello to all,

I recently discovered this site and have found it to be both informative and professionally operated. I have worked in the criminal justice system for the past 11 years, and beyond that, there is not that much worth mentioning. My compliments to the administrators of this site....given some of the other forums I have seen, it is nice to see one in which the members and guests are not constantly flaming each other, but instead are engaging in informative dialogue. This is as intelligent as I can sound without giving myself a headache.

I am a 22 year old prior active duty Army soldier. I was stationed at Ft. Bragg for the duration of my time and have served in the 514th Signal Company (Airborne) and the 128th Detachment, USASOC (Airborne). I signed up here because I saw the thread about Capt Tiffner, whom I do not know, but my uncle was his driver during the incident that took his life (my uncle survived, but was wounded).

I'm probably going to re-enlist because I hate civilian life, but we'll see.

Hello, first and foremost I just want to say I have the utmost envy and respect for every one of you fine men.

Now, a bit about myself. Names Travis. I'm 19, young in age but I'd like to think my mental state of being is a few years surpassed. I believe, there is a small population of the true, "Those who seek justice are those who are ultimately satisfied". That rare breed of men and women alike that will take every risk, along with every precaution necessary to fulfill an ideal. Those are who I would like to learn from and learn with.

I have been seriously considering enlisting but there are still a few things I have yet to find in the pages of texts. As a mental and physical being I realize the need to be honed and in control of both realms. Special Forces from what I have read and understand will push my abilities in both to limits I have not even fully realized.

The years of turbulence are upon us and I for one do not want to be unprepared when the time comes to choose.

Hi guys.

My names Mike, I'm a 28 year old soldier with the New Zealand Army.
I cant lay any claims to greatness, just a run of the mill Kiwi grunt.

Hoping to learn some useful tricks from those who have BTDT to improve my own skills and help me be a better soldier.

Thanks for providing this site.

Mike

Mike,
Your post reminded me of something. A few weeks ago I opened a fortune cookie and the little strip of paper said,

" Don't just learn the tricks, learn the trade"

Welcome aboard.

Hello everyone,

I ran across this site a little while ago and finally decided to register. I entered as an 18X and am currently in the SFQC training to become an 18E. Hopefully I'll be going to 10th SFG with Arabic as my language. Sadly, I had to give up going to Sharky's in exchange for Rosetta Stone lessons every night. I know its a long, long way off, but I'd someday like to try for CIA Special Activities Staff or Green. I most likely won't post too much; however, I appreciate all the advice and words of wisdom from all of the experienced and knowledgeable members of the board.

Thanks.

Hello all,

My name is Rich. I try not to post my full name in publicly viewable sites, but if it's desired I would make an exception for this one. I've had an account on this board for sometime, but I've never felt the need to post as I don't have anything to add to most of the conversations. That said, I would like to thank those of you who have shared your knowledge. I've certainly enjoyed the good information and good discussions I've read so far.

Chris:

You need to read ALL of the stickies and intros, and stop spamming the board with these requests for info. You might want to review your OPSEC and PERSEC briefings while you are at it.

We don't know you, and we would not put info about an SF soldier out via the net if we did.

Best of luck.

Mate if you want to know about your dad ask him, if your having issues resolve them.

In 2001 I was deployed to East Timor and on an SRT when my father died. I made it home in time for the funeral thankfully. I didn't get along well with him and we hadnt really talked since I was 16. Its something ill always regret.

Don't end up like that. You know where he is working, ring him and talk to him.

Well I think I registered over a year ago and I am finally able to come back to the site. I did a search to see if I introduced myself so I wouldn't post it twice but the search didn't turn up anything so here it goes. :)

Hey my name is Josh, I enlisted into the NG in 2003 and I am still currently enlisted as a 19K. I'm glad I am back on this site and reading posts again as it was very informative the first go round. I'm hoping to broaden my knowledge on the liestyle and career of SF since I'm still interested in trying out.

I do have question that I will create a new post for under the appropriate section so I will hopefully receive some helpful answers.

My name is Roy and I am currently preparing myself physically and mentally for the challenge to potentially become a "Quiet Professional". I am a college grad from the University of South Florida, degree in Criminology. I still currently live in Tampa but was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I have two friends who were both former operators in the 7th group. They are twins, some of you might know them. I look forward to possibly becoming an operator for the 7th group aswell. But for now, I am using all my tools and assets to become a better informed and physically qualified candidate.

I welcome any PM's, feedback and motivational information.

Thank you for your time.

I would like to thank you for making such a great resource available for us inspiring to change our lives. I have been visiting your site now for a few months and sometimes find myself reading some of the posts as if they were books. I can not believe how well written and enlightening some of them are. I am at a crossroad in my life and have a few options available to me and I am trying to make the most informed decision I can. You probably won’t hear too much from me because I still have a lot of reading ahead. I am fortunate enough to be working w/a mentor whose advice and instruction I find invaluable but I am always open to more. Thanks again!

Salutations.

Former 18D, subsequent CSAR, subsequent security consultant, then security manager.

Spent last 7 years in the ME, doing security work, then as a security manager.

Divorced father of two boys.

Purpose here-
1) Add what I can to the community.
2) RFS on the web magazine I founded and am EIC- www.alphadad.net. The magazine contributing editors are mostly ex-SF guys, mil/ex-mil guys, and serious Alpha Male civilians. The mag is designed for the interest of guys just like you and I- with articles, humor, commentary (NOTHING political), and reviews on gear movies, games, books, media. Grown-up, interesting content without nudity or overly coarse language. But we even have a Parent/Kids page, with good articles and cool/fun stuff to show, teach and do with your kids.
3) RFS on content input to Alpha Dad- guest reviews, commentary, articles or items of interest. Have also been posting a lot of photographic work; submssions sought/welcome. Appropriate humor and funny pix welcome. If you would like to contribute/have your work posted, review the mag and get a feel for content. If nothing else, I know all the group here should have gear suggestions/reviews.
4) Provide support to other SF guys, mil guys, and others in the community with pro-bono advertising, cross-listings for business or other sites. I have given significant space and exposure to properly vetted supporters and A+ companies and friends that have good products/services for our community.

Warning Order RFS item: we are building three lists- one for Alpha Dad significant others to get some ideas on what to get the Alpha Male; one with numerous suggestions from a number of our female readers on what to get a gal for Christmas; and one for suggestions on what to get kids of all ages for their Christmas present(s). Anyone wishing to contribute to any of these lists is requested to put in their thoughts/suggestions.

I think our web magazine is... pretty darn good stuff. Good writing, interesting subjects, funny humor. Check it out. All support, feedback and input is welcome.

I request full-vetting to Professional Soldiers for adequate use of tools and sections.

I apologize in advance for my lengthy intro; I seek support from the community of my peers. I am also at your disposal to assist and support in any way possible.

I have been looking at the medical postings here and felt I might be able to offer a modicum of insight into acute care surgery, especially in regards to trauma and burns. I hope to share, learn and exchange ideas with you, if I might.

And one last thing I would like to say is thank you all for doing what you do or did do to allow me to do what I do every day. This has not escaped me.

I am currently a sophmore majoring in Political Science. I plan on finishing college and then signing up. The option of ROTC has intrigued me alot lately. Is it possible to be an 18x after graduation of ROTC? I have a pretty good sense of humor and am a humble guy. So Ill be around asking some intelligent questions and maybe posting in the general off topic threads. And one more question is the Get Selected book only available online, or is it available in general bookstores?

31 y/o former Marine, doing the cop thing but I have been missing the military a lot lately. The idea of trying out the NGSF has been on my mind ever since the day I met the late SFC Crabtree. I was fortunate enough to have met Dan at a LE instructor school, we BS'd about this and that and he clued me in on the NGSF and told me I should look into it.

Now I'm here because when I spoke to the recruiter, well she didn't come across like she knew what she was talking about so I figured I'd come here.

Greetings. I recently had what you could call an epiphany of sorts. I just turned 20, am 12 credits shy of my associates degree, and had a nice, cush, decent-paying civilian job that required very little actual 'work'.

And I HATED it. I wasn't made to drive a desk. So I quit my job and enlisted as a 68W (Airborne). (Call it a mid-life crisis if you will, though I do plan on living past 40...)

I plan on attending the RIP after jump school, and applying for the SFAS as soon as I am eligible. I have done a great deal of lurking around this site since then, and learned a great deal. I plan to continue doing so, and I will try to keep my mouth shut and watch the boards unless I have a legitimately relevant question.

Thank you all for the knowledge that you impart here! I particularly enjoy the fact that people who don't follow the standards that you set for the site (read before posting, don't be dumb etc.) are punished for their indiscretions; if only more things in the world were like that! I knew my 5th grade teacher was full of it when she told me there's no such thing as a stupid question.

You have an important question to ask yourself.

Do you want to be a Ranger, or do you want to be SF?

Then you need to work toward it with every resource you have. Focus.

Trying to be both before you even get started is a bad idea.

And if the Rangers find out that you are going SF, you are going to be in the hurt locker.

Best of luck.

Gentlemen,
After reading many threads/posts/stickies I wanted to take a moment and properly introduce myself. I am 23, interested in a career in law enforcement or military, have spoken with AD and NG recruiters, found them lacking in intergrity and complete and accurate information, and have found this site to be an outstanding resource. I wanted to say "THANK YOU" to all the QP's and other servicemen who have shared their wisdom and provided guidance to the rest of us observers. Your unselfish service and devotion to country and fellow man has not gone unnoticed. Thank you in advanced for your continued service; I will observe (unless, on occasion, my input is appropriate in a reply/post) and continue to prepare myself mentally, emotionally, and physically, and use these and other resources for the journey ahead. Godspeed.

Hello Gentlemen,

I have spent a lot of time researching and contemplating whether or not to go for SF. I have finally decided to go through with it and have recently signed an 18x contract. I will be shipping 20080128. I realize I have a difficult task ahead of me, but I am confident in my ability to persevere. I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to this site. It is well run and has been very informative. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Hello All, while in the basement of the McClure building a friend recommended this site. And since it is rude to be a total parasite I figured I’d log in and introduce myself… After shipping over from the Marines I attended SFAS and was selected to be a medic in May ’94. I attended the last 300F1 class in Ft. Sam and ‘med lab’ at Ft. Bragg before becoming the team medic on ODAs 041, 044, and 794 and finally the Team Sergeant of 797 in ’05. I look forward a good exchange of information, but don’t be surprised if I am not the most punctual at replying, it all depends on my internet connection and time management. But I do look forward to the opportunity for a good exchange of information...

Hello all,

I am currently a Reserve O1 (25A) trying to get into Civil Affairs. I was not prior enlisted. I've been lurking here for a long while (years) without the need to register. Recently I needed to PM someone, so I finally registered. My civilian background is in software in the Defense Industry. I get to make things that fly figure out how to make things that don't fly go boom.

This may well be my only post. So I will take the opportunity to say thank you all for this resource.

Good afternoon everyone,

My apologies for not having done this sooner. I am a former Marine 0351 with L Co. 3/5 from 2002-2006. I decided after 3 tours that I should give college a try. So, I traded in being a "Hollywood Marine" to becoming just another SOCAL beach bum. Well to keep it simple I realized not everyone is meant to wear a suit and tie and do the 9-5, some of us are meant to play in the mud. I plan on talking to a recruiter to go 18X after the semester is up.

Thank You for all the information.

"Hollywood Marine" when said by others just shows a twinge of jealousy :p

Greetings Gents, My name is George, nick-name is Grog. I entered AD US Army in 1985, right out of high school. I served 5 years, and ETSd after my father fell off a couple sections of scaffold and royally messed his back up. Military pay wouldn't support the family, so that decision was made for me. I entered the PA State police academy in 1990 and have been serving the Commonwealth ever since. I entered the criminal investigation section over a year ago, and am looking forward to retiring in 7 months. I enjoy exchanging information, and am currently studying terrorism and related subjects, which will give me something to occupy myself in my latter years. I have been a member of socnet for a while now and a friend there pointed me in this direction. I'm looking forward to renewing some old friendships, and making some new ones here. Seems like a nice place to pass some time, and share experience. As a side "job/hobby" I've been developing new 40mm munitions, working with ALS Technologies on newly developed flash/bang type and other rounds. I own an M-203 and am presently working on restoring a Springfield Armory M-79. I am very pro-constitution, as I believe every LEO should be. Proud to be here!

Hello, Gentlemen.

After a somewhat long hiatus I am back on track. I took a little over a year off from active duty, having worked for the SWC and the 18x program establishing the original medical and processing facility (aid station) back in 2002-2005. I was in the pipeline originally but an injury and two subsequent hip surgeries put me out of action (from actual training) for quite some time.

During my "time off" I was able to heal, and decided to give it another go around. I'm back on active duty, currently in the sandbox with a medical unit and looking forward to going back to the Special Operations community not long after re-deploying. I miss the men of the Spec Ops community as you have been the truly upright professionals and I prefer to work with no others. Needless to say, this deployment with "mother army" has been a proverbial nightmare.

Those of you who have already 'been there and done that' have my utmost respect and admiration. I look forward to working in your midst once more.

Strength and Honor!

Hello all. It's good to be aboard such a fine forum and I have enjoyed reading and catching up on some of my old comrades from the past and present.

I served in 7th SFG(A) from 94 to 04. I feel fortunate to have been a part of not only an outstanding unit such as the 7th (my heart will always be there) but in SF in general. So much tradition and honor and a history that must be carried on. I can say this, every 18 series I had the pleasure of serving with or knowing will remain with me.

My name is Jim. I am 23 years old and am currently attending a local community college in Phoenix, Arizona. I am an Army brat; my father, mother, and stepfather have all served in the Army and my mother is a Desert Storm veteran while my father recently returned from Afghanistan where he was supporting JTF-82. Over the past few years I have a developed an interest in the elite fighting forces of our nation and I have, more specifically, become quite interested in the Special Forces. My current life goals are to continue my schooling until I receive my degree (I am still debating what my major will be, but I am leaning towards History), run the P.F. Chang's Rock'n'Roll 1/2 Marathon in early January 2008 and continue to develop a healthy and active lifestyle. Thank you for allowing me to be a member. My interests here will be entirely in gathering knowledge of the Special Forces lifestyle; I do not plan on posting much, considering I don't think my knowledge would be of much use to the professionals. Once again, thank you. Not just for allowing me to be a member, but also for your service and sacrifice.

Greetings,

I've been a long time lurker, now seems as good a time as any to introduce myself. I went through the Q-course as an 18B in 5/84 right after OSUT/Jump School. After a medical recycle I finished as an 18E in class 4/85. Did B team time in 3BN 10th group BOP, then spent some time on ODA 072 at Devins with some truly amazing guys. Had a great time at SOT school, then turned down HALO/DLI to go back to college. 20+ years later I still wonder often if that was the right choice. Did the ROTC thing, Armor, Reserve training Bgds, IRR, etc. in the guard/reserves for 14 years, resigning my commission in 2002. When I was on active duty in SF I had no appreciation at all for the gulf in quality and professionalism separating the guys on this forum from those in the regular army. But, as they say, you can never go back. Now work at U Mich as a pol sci prof.

Good morning.

Here is my first post as requested. My profile has been created. I currently work at a phone company making sure phone calls get answered. I'm currently looking for something that actually requires some serious work and commitment, possibly SF. Registering here so that should I have any future questions about the SF that stickies, googling, and recruiters are unable to answer, I'll be able to get information from those who have been there.

Thank you all for letting me be a guest in your house.

...and C 3/7 'til I retired '04 (knuckledragger '95 / RST '97). TripC after that.

By way of intro, I was a member of A/1/19 SFG (A), Washington Army Nat'l Guard, as a member of their training platoon. I attended SFAS and was selected May 07. I recently had to transfer to Virginia because of my day job. Now, I am a member of the Maryland Army Nat'l Guard and trying to get to the Q Course as soon as I can.

Prior to all of that, I was a 97B...counterintelligence...with an Army Reserve unit. Was in the Stan from 04 to 05 and Iraq 06 to 07. Decided to add to my current skillset by going to SFAS. Looking forward to joining the Brotherhood.

To all of you here and to all of the men downrange, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Good Evening Gentlemen,
I have been a silent observer on your site for a bit and as per ROE set out by Team Sergeant I am posting my initial introduction. First and foremost I wanted to say congratulations on a great site. It has answered so many of my questions already.
I am a recently discharged Navy aircraft mechanic. I had given serious thought to attending BUD/S but did my research and decided SF was a better fit. I served my contract and now have my sights set on the task at hand. I have been taking college courses to learn Arabic and joined an orienteering club to learn some land navigation. I am trainig for my first marathon in the spring. My plan is to enlist on an 18X contract this time next year.
I am looking for a a mentor from someone who has been there and can give me advice throughout the training pipeline. Any wisdom would be appreciated and if anyone is in the Metro D.C. area and has time to chat that would be great. Again, great site and thank you.

Well, with a name like Big .Assissin one assumes you have spent a lot of time at McDonalds or else you know what to do with a rifle. There are 1000 yard F-class matches at Quantico about once a month or so. It is mostly a bunch of jarhead snipers, some civy benchrest type shooters, a few hunters and me. You are welcome to come and and bring your best stuff. The 2007 season just ended and we will probably start back up in February or March. I do not know didly dog about modern SF, but I do know which end of the rifle to point down range and sometimes I get lucky and even shoot at my own target.

Hello All,

Thank you for letting my join your site and benifit from your experiences.

I am a Deputy Sheriff with a NE Wisconsin dept. (Green Bay area for all you football fans). I am an Active Mobile Shooter instructor and was reserching Dragon Skin armor, as an entry vest, when I came accross the excellant thread on this site, on the subject. Needless to say, I will be looking into other types of armor.

I regret to say I have never served in the Military. However, I do have a deep respect and gratitude for all those who have and do. Thank you all for protecting us here. I firmly believe you have, and are, keeping the enemy off our backs.

If my searches come up negative, I will ask few questions in regards to gear. Other than that, I am content to sit back, read and only occasionally throw in a comment or two, where applicable.

Thank you.

Hello everyone. My name is Jimmy Sulecki. I'm 19 years old live in Geneva, Ohio. I joined Professional Soldiers to gain the information that I need to decide what I want to do with my life. I currently have two years of community college under my belt and want to move on to something different. My main two options are:

1. Join the Army right now and go to school afterwards. I can either join to see how I like it before deciding on Special Forces, or sign the 18x contract when I enlist.

2. Go to a larger school, get a degree, and then see how I feel about the military after I've grown a little more. Most people say this is the best idea.

Both choices have their unique benefits. I hope that through reading and asking questions when necessary, I will be able to make the correct decision that will decide what I do for the rest of my life. Thanks for having me here.

Welcome to PS.com.

The dilemma you mention isnt a new one and as such has been covered here before. With a little searching followed by some reading you will find most if not all of your questions, on this topic and Special Forces in general, will have been answered. It is well documented here how we feel about education and finishing what you have started.

Edited to add: I've been around the site for quite some time now, just finally decided to make an account.

Well, since the objective of this introduction thread is for you Quiet Professionals, and others to get to know me, so, I'll tell yall my motives, and a little background information.

Why I want to join the Army: Well, for starters, I want to serve int he most powerful Army on Earth, and that would be the United States Army. I have quite a few friends who're currently serving, Rangers, legs, airborne, etc. And I wish to join their ranks.

Currently I'm having difficulty finalizing my thought of MOS I want. My first goal in the Army is achieving Airborne (if permitted, I'll get to that in just a little bit). And from their, Ranger, and from there, maybe, someday progressing into SF.

Two years ago I used to weigh 368.2lbs, at 6'3''. Now I weigh 291lbs, due to little to no physical activity from a shoulder injury, (which is healing quite nicely, tomorrow, I can restart my PT). but aht asided, my ultimate goal is joining amongst the ranks of the Army, as to what MOS to start out with, I'm unsure of it yet. I can't go into Special Forces for another two years, (I don't turn 20 until 2010).

But now, reason to explain why I'm unaware of airborne, is because of my vision, my BMI is 27% currently, (I'm pretty bulky from Power Lifting :lifter etc, although, due to my shoulder, I havn't been able to do any power lifting for over 2-3 weeks now). I don't have to worry about weight all that much for enlistment, I've got about a year and a half before I can enlist. And if I can drop over 80lbs in 2 years, I could possibly drop to 240lbs before enlisting, 240lbs according to simulations, would put me at 15% BMI.

But vision is the big deal, I have bad eye sight, my vision quals me for general enlistment, but I don't know if it'll qualify me for Airborne, or an Option 40 contract.

But even if I'm forever locked in leg land, I'll be one of the best legs in the Army. Either way, whether what I'm able to get into etc. I plan to be the best in the job I get into. And any help/advice on how I could become better, and/or more physically fit and/or any advice on some non-SOF MOSs would be nice, jobs I'm looking into are: 21B, 11X, 13F, and 19D. I've looked at advanced schools etc. that each can go into. But I'm stuck which one to go for.

Later on in career, I plan on hopefully going into SFAS, and later the "Q" course. (hopefully) if not, I'll be the best leg in my unit, I'll make sure of it.

Background info:
-I was born and raised in Washington.
-I have one brother
-I have two dogs
-I have average-above average grades in school.
-I love reading military stuff, as much information I can soak my brain with. FMs, TAs, etc. I read 'em all, some are out of date though, but I try to get hold of as much current/semi-current info as I can.
-I have a high interest in SpecOps, such as: PSYOPS, EOD, CA, SF, Rangers, 160th SOAR, and Airborne ( by technicality, the 82nd for some reason is considered Special Operations... IDK why...)
-I love history, Military, American, World, everything, I feel that knowing the mistakes made in the past, will prevent you from making them in the future, because historically speaking, history in some shape/form always repeats itself. For example, Napolean, he marched his Army into Russia, and was slaughtered by the bitter cold Russian winter, about a hundred years later, Nazi soldiers suffer the same fate, and lose all momentum/sustain heavy losses in a counter attack mounted by the Red Army, and got driven back... In some way, shape, or form, history always repeats itself, and so, I believe if you learn what someone else fracked up on, you know not to frack up the same way. Or you end up suffering the same fate.
I also enjoy video games. Military preferably.
I love women.
And if there is any other information you would like to know about me, than feel free to just ask. I take no questions offensive, or anything like that.

Ok, here is my intro per the required regulation of this site.
I joined the Army back in Sept of 2002, originally I was supposed to be an 18X but due to a FEMALE guidance counselor who told me the chances of me making it to the Q-course were slim to none, I opted for an 11X contract with duty station of choice (Ft. Campbell) Deployed to OIF I with A Co, 3-187 INF Regt, spent some time in TRADOC at Ft. Benning and was "selected" to be a detailed recruiter. I love the Army, but hate being a recruiter, so instead of being like 95 % of the detailed recruiters out here that bitch about the job, but dont do anything I have started my Green to Gold packet that will get me out of recruiting a year and a half early. I have always had a fondness for the SF community and have always enjoyed any training I was lucky enough to receive from them throughout my years in the Army. I made it up the enlisted ranks relatively fast for a leg with no ranger tab (SSG pinned at 4 yrs) and will be the first to tell you im no great leader, but I am fair and I get the mission accomplished. I am the type of Soldier who would rather spend 15 years as an 18A then to be a major in any other branch. I hope to learn a lot from this website and hopefully educate a few people on here.

Greetings everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen that served with the U.S. Army. I was stationed in Baumholder, Germany with 1/6th Infantry. I now live in Colorado and work as a security guard at a large hotel. I have been considering joining the 5/19th here in Colorado for sometime and have now started to prep myself for this major change in my life. I am coming off a broken ankle, so I want to get back into top physical form before talking to a recruiter. I have read a lot of the posts on this site and will continue to read all that I can. I thank all of those that have posted helpful information here and I hope to be able to return the favor one day as well.

Hello all!
Here's my introduction...prior service 12B1P, with C/27 EN BN at Bragg (93-96)..since then, college, travels, and now serving as a full time Firefighter/EMT with the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue (5 years). But that ole' itch is coming back, you know, the one that says 'you wanted to do it then, why not now?' So this past summer I did some research, made some calls, and now I am getting ready for NG SF (19th) up in Utah. For now, lots of PT. But I am very excited and motivated that this opportunity is now upon me, and I am looking at signing papers in January/February.

This forum is outstanding with all the available information. Thank you, QP's, for your time and contributions. I'll be researching this site for a good time to come.

Seasons Greetings Everyone,

Here goes with my intro. My name is Wes and I am a Firefighter/EMT with the Cincinnati Fire Dept (9 years). I've served a total of 9 years between the RA and the ARNG. Did 2 years with the OPFOR at Hohenfels, Germany, then 4 with a Cav unit (OH ARNG), and 3 with a light Infantry unit (IN ARNG). I am currently going through the whole re-enlistment process to get into the training team with B. Co. 2/19th SFG. For some reason I just can't seem to shake the itch to take a shot at SF before I start collecting Social Security! Just don't want to be sitting on my porch in a rocking chair with my grandson on my knee thinking "if only I had given it a try"!

Wanted to thank all those Quiet Professionals out there who have made this site possible. Without a doubt it is the best source of intel on SF I have ever seen.

Stay Safe Everybody!

First--Thanks for this great website. I've held off posting anything for a while now, I've just been searching and reading everything I can get!

Now a little about me--
I did 6 years enlisted in the AF from 00'-06' I did my whole time at Hurlburt Field in good ole' Florida. It was great because as I'm sure most of you know Hurlburt Field is AFSOC. Anyways I worked on the MH-53M/J helocopter and I got to do and see some really cool stuff that most AF will never even know about!

Since finishing my enlistment I've finally had the opportunity to hit the books hard and finish my degree. Now that I'm finished my degree I'm in the middle of paper work to go the officer route in the Army. I'm hoping I can get or trade for Infantry Officer and eventually have the opportunity to obtain SF. I'm really excited to be an Officer in the Army and I can't wait to get started!

Anyone with any advice or words of wisdom please feel free to PM me as I'm open to all opinions and anything anyone has to say.

-Jason

Hello everyone,

Not much experience in the Army, I just recently joined the USAR (21B) while finishing up college. I am looking foward to going active after finishing my schooling. I am currently in my last semester of classes in pharmacy school. I enjoy searching through the information here, and I hope to contribute where I can now, and contribute more in the future, as my experience increases.

Hello everyone,

I really enjoy this site.

I am prior military having started out in the 82nd ABN as an 11C were I stayed until I reached SGT. My next assignment was 2 ID in Korea were I reenlisted as an 11B. I then returned to the 82nd ABN were I made SSG and was finally accepted to the Q course. Spent 6 years with C/3/10 SFG as an 18B, made SFC and was shipped to SOCOM to work SFAS were I remained for about a year before leaving to become a civilian due to some family issues.

I started my 10th Group time on ODA 092 and was lucky enough to be there when we went HALO. We then became ODA 093. While there I attained HALO status as well becoming a sniper under the training and expertise of SFC Tom Capp.

After becoming a civilian I missed the rush so bad that I became an EMT with a local Rescue Squad. I am now also a member of the Townships Dive Rescue Team.

I look forward to reading and sharing idea's and info with fellow Quiet Professionals.

My name is Ken, I retired from the Army in 1995, nothing special, no high speed stuff here. I was attached to 3/75 for year or two. I own and operate a firearms and self defense training company in Georgia. We have been in business for about 5 years. I am also a training junkie myself and have taken classes from Hackathorn, Tom Givens, Andy Stanford, SouthNarc, and more. I am also a Law Enforcement Instructor in Defensive Tactics and Firearms for the state.

I recently attended the International Sniper Competition at Benning to watch the son and his team compete and met some of the guys from Bragg (SOTIC). I will be lurking for a while, reading and becoming familiar with posting rules and protocols. I also know one of the guys in SOTIC at 5th.

Looking forward to sharing information.

You might reread the TS's guidance about spelling and grammar.

This is not a graded block of instruction, but first impressions are lasting ones, and people in positions of authority view with disdain those who cannot spell, capitalize, or use proper punctuation.

Hello all,

My name is Chris, and I'm a Cadet (Cadouche, Cadidiot, Cadot) at the University of Illinois. A few months in to my Freshman year as a cadet, I realized that I wanted a career in the Army, and wanted as much training as I could get. So, I joined the National Guard as an 11B. I spent a little under 2 years as a PFC in my unit before I gained my contracted Cadet status, so now I wear the dot and get to work with the leadership in planning and conducting training.

My first choice of branch is Infantry, and I'm confident the accessions gods will see that I get my crossed rifles (again). Right now, I'm training with a few of my friends to do the Bataan Memorial Death March in the Heavy Military grouping. I came upon this site while looking for boot reviews. In any case, I'm grateful for the information you all provide. As far as a possible career in the Special Forces, I realize that the possibility of going to SFAS is several years away, so I'm more focused on honing my small-unit tactics and leadership skills. At the same time, I'm studying up so that if I do decide to try out, I'll be able to do so with a good skill set.

Hello all,

I'm a prior Air Force guy that now contracts here in Iraq. Recently a buddy of mine who is tabbed made it out this way at a nearby FOB and he's been educating me on the SF way of life. On top of what he has told me I sometimes have the privilege of helping some 5th group ODA guys in regards to air transit all throughout theater here in northern Iraq. Since working with SF for the first time ever, it has opened my eyes up to a whole other world that is very attractive to me and what I want in life.

I'm at a pivot in life in regards to whether I should finish my degree and then go SF or leave now. Probably finish my degree first just in case I don't get selected for some reason out of my control (breaking something while at SFAS).

If any of you know a ODA commander (CPT.) who's first name starts with the letter “T " here in Northern Iraq-(Q-WEST), he's a very stand up guy from what I know of him and so is the rest of the ODA. They all have been giving me a lot of insight as to what I would need to do if I really wanted to become SF.

You can't beat first hand information from team guys.

Evening All,
Thought i would go ahead and post my intro. I have been lurking here for quite awhile soaking up information on the career field that i would like to pursue. I am 27 and currently work as a Manufacturing/Design Engineer just outside Greensboro, NC. I have been fascinated with the military for as long as i can remember and have decided that i just can't sit here any longer doing nothing. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy designing and building automated machinery but feel that i have a higher calling. I am taking the PE exam (Professional Engineer exam) in April of next year and once i pass that, i plan on enlisting with the 18x program. I obviously don't need the PE license for what i want to do with the military but i set that as a goal for myself back in college and i intend to meet that goal, besides, i have two engineering degrees so i might as well become certified in the fields that i received my school learnin' in. I always enjoy pushing myself to new limits and trying new things. I get bored if I'm not learning something new everyday. Like i have always heard, a day without learning something new is a wasted day.

Thank you guys for the opportunity to be a member here and learn new and fascinating things. Thanks for your service. Back to lurk mode for awhile.

Well for starters my name is Nick and I've been perusing thise boards for a bit now. I've been on active duty for almost 3 years now, I came into the army as an 18x and quit during SOPC.

Fast foward to a couple years later and now I'm going back to SFAS in February. I'm ready for it now, I feel that I've learned a lot in the past couple years and have become a more mature and seasoned soldier.

I also just returned from a 15 month tour to Iraq with 10th Mountain. I learned a lot about being a better soldier and a better person by going there. I'm looking foward to SFAS and will continue to learn here.

Hi:

I'm a 41 yr old infantryman. A 20th Group buddy gave me the info for this site. I'm looking for two things I was hoping someone could e-mail me. I need an individual packing list for deployment to OEF. I don't even know what the "luggage allowance" is. Anyway, if you were going to live in a basecamp in Afghanistan for the next year, what would you take? The second thing is a load plan or packing list for non-tactical vehicle like the Toyota Tacoma. If you were going out in Afghanistan in an NTV and remaining overnight, what would you take?

Good afternoon.

I am a 49 yr medically disabled Emergency Medicine physician who never passed the physical process for AF induction.

Been a first aider before "block grants" and EMT since 75, and moved through health care with stops as a paramedic, ICU/ED nurse, etc before Med School

Residency trained in Emergency Medicine, and stayed on as faculty in a inner city "knife and gun zone" hospital. I beleive I trained with SwatDoc in parrallel residencies, and Syd was a great asset.

Developed and ran an EMS Fellowship program, and have both Board certification in Emergnecy Medicine and Certificate of Added Qualifications in EMS.

EMS additional experience included overhead support and some underground training with the Wilderness EMS Institute in support of the Eastern Region National Cave Rescue Commission, and the Applachian Search and Rescue Conference. I also tripped with my chairmen, a ret. USAF Col. from Wilford Hall, to Operation Bushmaster at Camp Bullis, San Antonio.

I still teach all the civilian alphabet courses, having brough BTLS to Eastern PA when that began.

Currently continue to serve on the Board of Directors for a local borough EMS service, which has affilaitions with an In State Rescue Task Force, and a Federal USAR team.

From a firearms perspective, I took up shooting, again, just before the heart attack/baloon pump/failed bypass/rescue stents, and have been heavy into the shooting sports for the last 7 years, becoming a RWVA "Appleseed" instructor, and NRA Training counselor. Currently I am directing a mil friendly private gun club in Pa. (in fact recently completed a Precision Rifle program led by an ODS vet with somolia and grenada experiences)

The "light part' of my training/experience is in the MIL and Tactical environments.

The major purpose of signing up was to use the "search function" and perhaps participate in a conversation with current or retired mil specialists with TASC experience to answer a couple of questions relating to medical care under fire.

After three weeks of searching with various terms, this was the best bet to get that intel.

Thank you for all that you do, have done, and will continue to do. Though my "step" son (friend of my sons who lived with us for a bit during a nasty remarriage after his dad passed) has successfully rotated back from Ramstein (?) and though separated from Army continues to serve as a inforamtice specialist, and my nephew has HonDischarge from the USMC after a few rotations in OEF, I have many other friends who were not so fortunate.

Keep the line. Sorry we need to be in theater, but if we must, prosecute with conviction and alacrity!

Thank you for the opportunity to participate

Mickey, you cannot enlist as an 18D and you are way too far out to start asking questions (that have probably already been answered) here. Incidentally, you will also not want to buy a house before receiving an assignment.

Focus on getting onto shape, enjoying your youth, and reading/searching here. Fill in your profile and you can put your contact info there, rather than out in public.

Tony, we know exactly where Finland is.

Perhaps you have heard of Lauri Torni?

Sure have. Larry's picture was 20 feet from my bunk when I was a buck private. Among Larry there were men like Alpo Marttinen, Paavo Kairinen and Aito Keravuori. Not sure they are known as good as Larry but they were associated with him in his US SF years.

Thanks for the welcome.

Greetings Gentlemen,

I stumbled across this site and looked around for a couple of days. I found a wealth of information on a broad range of subjects. I am a police officer working patrol and I am always looking for an edge on the street and feel this site will be a great resource. Thank you Sirs for allowing civilians' access this site. I don't think I will be doing much posting, but wanted to give an intro none the less. Feel free to ask me any LEO related questions that you wish. Thanks again and take care.

Getting ready to re-join, I left the Army after 8 years for a 6 figure job, I've decided the corporate life is not for me and to give that up and return to service. SF is my goal. I will not be doing much posting here, just reading. Thank you for your intel.

Hello gents. I'm an Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation Medical Technician(Flight Medic). I've been in for 13 years and I'm currently doing a HQ tour so I'm flying a desk at the moment, which isn't too bad since I'm knocking out a ton of school now. I'm really interested in tactical medicine and I'm currently trying to develop a better way for us to carry our medical kits on the aircraft. I'd like to thank all the Quiet Professionals out there for there committment to service.

Congo here. It all started with 594 and when 5th went to FCKY, we stood up 1st BN 3rd Group. During O&I we switched but I continued to wear my 5th Gp flash until I went back to my "new" old team 334. As soon as I got the four colored flash sewn on we started getting ready for Desert Storm and 1/3 made our debut from the parking garage at the airport. I wrote a decent history of what 1/3 did during Desert Storm if anyone wants to see it, send me a note. From 334 I went to 384 and was the Team Daddy after Tim L. left. We had some fun in Zim land and then I headed for the MFFS where I got my "I" and we moved from Bragg to YPG. DA let me have a short tour at SWC due to promotion to MSG and my crying to get back to a team. For my sins they sent me to C/2/10th at Carson. Had 061 - a good tem, just not MFF - for a few years and we had a blast until I was told I had to go to a staff position - then I retired. Working now for a big corporation and still keeping my fingers in National security concerns. Recognized some names from back in the day from both the 5th and 3rd Group threads. To all my Brothers, Happy New Year!

I was in the Marine Corps for four years, went into the Army after debating about becoming a cop, went to selections in December of 2006 and now I am a student in the Bravo course. I work part time (a couple hours a week) at Phase 5 Supply in Fayettevile so I can get good deals on guns when I am out here. Studying Indonesian so I am probably heading to 1st group some time this summer. Hope to get some good information off this site.

Hello all. I'm a 19 year old college student; currently a poli-sci major, but undecided is closer to the truth. I walked on and a made my school's football team, but after dealing with the bureaucracy/immorality of D-I football, I'm strongly considering shifting gears and doing something more.

I also lived nearly 3 years in Vienna, and though I prefer my hometown to it, I'm feeling restless with my normal routine of the last few years.

Essentially, I'm looking into 18x (or possibly RIP), and this site should (and already has) be helpful in making a decision within the next year.

All,

I am known as PO, to the men. I'm recently honorably discharged after three years and fours months of active duty as an 11B. I was with 3rd Brigade 2nd ID and deployed with them once on a 15 month tour. June 06 - September 07. I have been scouting these boards for years; I appreciate all of the general advice and knowledge presented on this site. Enough kissing butt, I have left the army, but the army has not left me.

Hey My name is Spencer Alan Reiter of SAR custom knives, I had a conversation with Bill Harsey and he encourage me to come over and take up his slack;).

I served 10 years 3 month and 18 days 11b3V, all my time was spent on the line with the 25th ID, 10th (M) and a stint as a O/C at JRTC. I was recently put out on a medical discharge as a SSG (P)
I started building knives about 2 1/2 years ago and have seen some relative success with a few designs. I met Bill when he lost his cool and fired around over my bow we talked came to terms and became friends, I am very luck to have a veteran maker like Bill to call on when I cannot figure things out.

While I was a O/C I had the opportunity to work for a Col. Meadows, hands down the best bos I ever had the chance to serve under, common sense prevailed 99% of the time. He also gave us a great LPD on his Father Dick Meadows involvement in "The Son Tay Raid" good stuff.

I have been married to the same women for about 10 years we have two children Daughter Taegan 6 and son Ethan 4, my wife Corbe is currently in training to make Leather and tactical nylon gear.

I will have to read up on the rules and regs, figure out when I can post some pics not mention see what topics are going down.

Thanks Bill for the invite
