Spencer,
Great to see you here!
Welcome aboard.
To All,
Just wanted to introduce myself, as per guidance.
I am a retired 18Z. I am originally from San Diego, CA. I joined the USA in 1984 as an 11B, after 3 years went to SFQC for 18D. I spent my operational time in 1st SFG from 1988 to 2000. I finished my career as an istructor / NCOIC of SOTIC at Bragg.
Since retirement I have work for a small company (Patriot Performance Materials) in Sanford, NC. We manufacture armor and tactical gear.
Thanks for the site, I plan to visit and stay in touch with the online SF community.
Regards to all,
Mark

Especially you Mark. Always good to see a friend here.

I am an 18C graduated APR07, 21 years of age. I entered 4/5th and have been attending various schools. I am heading out to Ranger here in a week or so, and I plan on referring to and learning from the expertise and experience of the other members of the site. I was an 18x, straight from high school, with a little bit of automotive mechanic experience.

Gentlemen,
I have been lurking around your forums for a little more than a week now, and I feel like I should introduce myself, as I am finding that I am here often. My name is Trey and for the last several years now I have had a keen interest in Special Forces, but for one reason or another have not pursued joining the Army further than meeting with a Recruiter. I have several things to over come before I can take this challenge on but, I have decided to attempt to earn a place in the 18-Xray program my reasons being I would rather attempt to serve with people as serious as I am out of the gate. If not then I will do my best in the regular Army and try again when/ if I'm eligible.
Currently I am a Home Health Aide, working mainly with hospice patients. I enjoy the work, mostly meeting and working with all kinds of people. But, its not where any of my goals lie.
I thank you all for the wealth of knowledge here and your Service. I already read a vast majority of your forums, but, I am looking forward to reading the rest, and of course all the future posts.

Winter Ranger School was the most physical, mental, and emotional misery that I've ever had to endure. Never been so cold, ever, in my life.
Good luck with the challenge! ;)

As an introduction, per guidance:
My name is Rob; I’m an intermittent lurker hereabouts and learned about the site by reading over at SOCNET. I’m another faceless bureaucrat in DC, but I referee soccer matches at a variety of levels most weekends, along with Crossfit, climbing, running and wakeboarding. I'm an avid -academic- student of low-intensity conflict, but as my frustration with my job grows, I've felt the increasingly strong pull to interview with one of the National Guard SF units in NC, WV or MD to determine my suitability.

Hello All,
I am an old 96B who spent my military career with the 1/20th SFGA in the early 90's. I enjoyed supporting SF and have a high regard for those QP's. I have a few friends still in the 20th and keep in touch with some of those I served with. Thanks for having me. AIRBORNE!
A warm welcome to all

Hi all,
I just wanted to say that this site has a wealth of information and is a wonderful resource for those interested in SF. I came across this site when looking for information regarding the 20th SFG and have had most of my questions answered and am hoping to glean more information regarding all things SF. I am looking into either the 18x program or OCS and am just trying to gain as much information as I can.

Hi,
My name is Jeremiah. My MOS' are 92R/42A. Spent some time with 782nd MSB at Ft. Bragg, also with 4013th GSU at Ft.Polk. I was introduced to the site from a friend of mine. I registered becasue I will be training with 2/20th SFG, to get ready for "Selection". I'm here to read and gain knowledge of what my next 2 years will be like at Ft. Bragg and the SF once I make it through. Thanks for making this site for those of us about to go thru and those that have gone thru pipeline.

Hello members, my name is Matt and I am an E-5 medic serving with the MNARNG, currently deployed to Kosovo. I graduated from MN State University, Mankato last spring with a bachelors degree in athletic training and have aspirations to earn my physician assistant masters some day. Before going to school for my masters I am considering serving as an 18D. I am gathering as much information as I can find about the SF field and 18D MOS, while preparing for try outs as well. The 20th and 19th SFGs are of particular interest to me, especially the 20th SF unit in Chicago. After returning home this coming summer I will continue to train, but will also continue to take some classes, prepare to take the athletic training certification, and go back to work as an EMT-B. From what I have explored so far this site and its members look very helpful and I look forward to participating.

Im currently on Active duty in the 82nd ABN. Currently training to attend the Q course.
Ive been reading off and on of the threads for about a year now. They have been extremely helpful. I attended SFAS class 04-07 and was Selected as an 18B with Spanish. It took me lots of work to finally get to SFAS but i finally got to go after everyone turned their backs on me in my unit and wouldnt support me since i wanted to leave. They even reassigned me to ANOTHER unit after i submitted my packet.
Is there anything else i should introduce about myself? I posted something once before without and introduction and i appologize for that.

I want to begin by stating how helpful this site has been to keep current on what's going on in Group, and read some advise from some pretty experienced individuals. Thank you.
I'm a former MI guy who went to SFAS in APR 02, Q course in 03-04. I then moved the family to the great state of Washington, and served as the XO of C/3/1 SFG for a year, before finally getting to serve on an ODA. Team time was everything it was cracked up to be, and I got the opportunity to deploy to SE and SW Asia...good times.
After team time, I chose to stabilize the family in their home state, so I made a leap of faith and joined C/5/19 SFG, in the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG). Although I'm pretty new to the Guard, I'm extremely impressed witht he quality of the individuals in the company: the NCO and Officer leadership is definitely impressive. So far, I feel confident I'll be able to continue to serve while stabilizing the family, which is all I could ever ask for. I know it sounds like a cliche, but serving with the men of SF has been the most rewarding experience I've ever had, and I'm humbled and grateful every day for being so fortunate to serve in this capacity.
Once again, thanks for the site, and thank you to every member out there (past, present, and future Soldiers).
Hello to everyone!
I found out about this site on SOCNET and decided to take a look. Thank you for allowing me to join. I see alot of familiar names. I have been looking over and have already gained a lot of valuable information. I am a prior enlisted 12B and after an 11 year break went back in and now working in the 35D capacity on the reserve side and supporting the community on the contractor side. I will keep my ear to the ground, Thanks again!

Hello,
I am Brandon and my wife and I live in Fayetteville. I was with the 82nd Airborne Division from 2001-2004. Tours in Afghanistan and Iraq--in Afghanistan, my Low Level Voice Inctercept (LLVI) team was attached to an SF unit and REALLY loved the way they operated. Much more freedom and ability to conquer the enemy. In 2005 I had brief respite from war when I worked with the NSA-Texas in San Antonio. From late 2005-present, I have been serving as a SOT-A with the 7th SFG(A). Tours to Afghanistan in 2006 and 2007. Rest In Peace: Thom Maholic, Joe Fuerst, Juma, Ish, and Mohammad-Panjawai, June 22-24 2006
I love being a SOT-A--although, I'm hanging up my boots in a year--and helping save and take lives.
Here's to the bold and courageous men in history and in present day the world over who fight for the freedom of others.

I am MSH. I was assigned to C Co, 3rd Bn, 7th SFG (A) in a support role (Intel) from Aug 2005 until yesterday. (Jan '08) I loved it there and I love the guys, our mission, the camaraderie, the professionalism, pretty much everything. I loved it so much, I decided to make sure that I would stay until I died or retired. I am currently a student at SWCS in the 18E course, SFAS Class 07-07. I signed in to D Co yesterday. Hello, welcome and good day.

Hello All!
My name is Ken from San Jose, CA. I've been in the military for only a few years. I am with the 870th Co/49th BDE, National Guard. I've been trying to find a site where I can get some advice as to training and information regarding Special Forces. I hope to one day be apart of it. I came across this site through a relative who completed Special Forces Training and recommended that this be a great source of info. In the mean time I am currently a student with one year to graduate and deciding if I still want to be enlisted or become an officer.
Hi everyone. I'm a Cav Scout in Fort Lewis right now, but I'll be leaving to Fort Bragg soon. I got selected from the Aug. '07 SFAS. My grandfather is my biggest inspiration to go SF. He went Vietnam a couple times while in Delta Project, and was a Recondo instructor after that. I consider him a Grade-"A" Bad-Ass, but I deeply admired how humble he was. Never one to gloat. Really working forward to a career as a Quite Professional.
Thanks to you who have put this site together. I like the no nonsense approach and maturity that is maintained. So much information on such a range of subjects.
I haven't served in the military but appreciate all that are or have in the past. (Dad was a Vietnam draftee and maternal grandfather did 20yrs in Army with 2 tours in Korea). I probably won't post much but thanks for having an open forum that is this helpful.

Gentlemen,
I just wanted to introduce myself and compliment y'all on this board. I'm an 18D in 5th SFG(A), formerly 11B at the 82d. I've been lurking around here for about a year. This is one of the best military sites out there. Keep it up.
Welcome all.
Enjoy your stay.

Name's Jeffrey Armadillo MoFo. (Long story) I served in 1st, 5th, and 12th SF Gps. Been out a while. Were it not for kids and mortgages and wives I probably would have got back in for this current war. I was in during most of the 80s. Commo/18E.
I live in KC, Kansas. Got 3 boys, 18 and 12. A fiance. 3 dogs. A house that needs to be torched. I am a KU alumn and fan. That's Kansas, not Kentucky, for all you yahoos out there. Although, I hear they play basketball in Kentucky too, or something close to it.
I still like to lift, pound the bag, fish, hunt, can't run as much anymore due to bad knees, and create sawdust in the shop and a mess in the kitchen.
Seems to be allot of younguns in this joint. Hear this. Special Forces is one of the greatest collections of men in the history of manhood. For more reasons than you can possibly understand at this point, or that I or any of the other older guys can explain. Most of what I know about teamwork, cohesion, leadership, organizational dynamics, even project management, I leaned in SF.
SF not long ago was the red-headed step-child of the Pentagon. Now seems like everyone wants to get in on the SOF game. SF is changing, and will continue to evolve. Whatever happens, I hope SF leadership does not lose sight of SF's past and true mission.
I have a big family. Lots of cousins. But SF is another family for me. When I go to SFA meetings and conventions it is like going home. Nothing better than hanging out with a bunch of SF brothers, over a meal or just beers, and shooting the bull. Reminds me that, no longer how long ago it was, it really happened, that I really did live that life and wear that funky little felt beenie they call the Green Beret.

I am a UK alumnus and fan. It's too bad that the Jayhawks usually get eliminated from the big dance (if they even get there) before they get trounced by the Wildcats. I was a starting guard on my high school baskeball team and couldn't even make the ROTC intramural team at UK.
My name is Bob. I was referred to this site by a very close friend and Quiet Professional in this forum who has a stellar reputation second to known. On numerous occasions we shared the same anchor line cable as well as humped rucks too-heavy-for-most for alot of our SF careers - in tha same Company. Ironically, both of us would be the Company Sergeant Major of that same company that we began as young, eager soldiers - serving and being mentored by giants from the Vietnam War. Thanks for the referral old friend.
I served in the 5th Group for most of my 28 year Army career as an O5B/18E, 18B, 18F, and ultimately 18Z. Most of my service was spent in the various companies or Bn staff in 3rd Bn, with a short stint in 2nd Bn when we moved to Ft Campbell, Ky while I was on a Special Project team. I also served in the Joint world in 2 assignments that took me to Norfolk Naval Base as well as Kirtland AFB where I retired (2003) and live in Albuquerque, NM. At one time I was told I was the longest serving SF guy in 5th Gp. Not sure if that is true, but I had a blast soldiering amounst the best in the business and miss being around other guys like me. That's why I fought to stay in 5th Gp so long.
I have read several of the threads in this forum and believe I can fill in some gaps (especially the move to Ft Campbell) having served in 5th Gp for a day or two. I look forward to interacting with those that have and are serving our Great Nation (in SF and other Services Components) as well as the young studs that have ambitions of giving SF a try. There is no higher calling - period. I am now a fulltime Govt Civ (Army) in a high stress, time consuming job with lots of travel, so cut me some slack if I don't routinely post - or take a long time to reply. Not intentional. I hope my job eventually normalizes; but for now, it is what it is.
Thanks for having me, and a very heartfelt thank you to those that have set up this site. I only wish that those in SF that have gone before us prior to the Internet could have had the chance to interact this way.

I am Eric, I am a student at Texas A&M University studying Agricultural Systems Management. My greatest dream growing up was to serve in the military and with the best. After I graduate, I will be serving my country in any capability that I can. If I am worthy of your ranks, I would be completing a goal I have held since I have found out the nature of SF. And the type of man that can push himself further, harder and longer than any other. I am putting my all into my dream of being able to call myself a Quiet Professional. I will be doing a lot of reading and not a lot of posting, because I would rather shut up and learn that spouting off on topics I have no personal experience with. I look forward to learning even more in the time to come than the 3 months I have been observing this forum. Many thanks to the veterans and those who are yet to serve and give their lives to allow me to live as I do.

Name is Rob F. Was in SF a few years back in the 80's. Reading the posts here brings back a lot of memories. I still run into old teammates every now and then. Once in a while I miss the action, but then I remember Pine Cone Patrol and support cycle, and everything comes back into perspective! Still carry my coin around... is that sad or what?

Hello, I was referred to this forum from another. I am looking into joining the National Guard. Dont feel that 40 is too old to do so either. I am looking for tips on rucking as I plan to add that into my training.
Been a police officer for almost 18 years but, no prior enlistment. Hoping to change that. Not much that I can add to anything unless its from the LE side of training/equipment.
Thanks for having me.

Hey QPs and Candidates,
My name is SGT Nunes and I am currently in the Mass National Guard. I just got home from Iraq in September and I am working on finishing my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science.
Lately I have become very interested in going SF, and in my good favor there are to ARNG SF units within close proximity of where I live. There is the Springfield unit, which is part of 20th group, and the Rhode Island unit, which is part of the 19th group. I haven't been able to think about anything else for the past few months and this week I have started an exercise regimen to get me into shape for when I try out for either of those units.
I've been reading through the forums quite a bit and you guys have a great site going - keep it up! Hopefully I will be joining your ranks at some point in the future.
Hey Yall,
Name is Brad B. I am an 18B on the same ODA as GTCrispy. He mentions this site alot, so I finally got around to checking it out this week. Lots of good info in here! Also nice to see LongRange1947 is not to old to use the internet and is on here as well:D

Hey everyone, my name is GJ. Live and grew up in Orem, Utah. I'm a full time student at a local soon to be University. Handful of classes away from my A.S. and A.A.S. degree in Drafting. Then onto high education in either Architecture or Construction Management.
I found out about this site from another forum. Glad to be here, have enjoyed the reading.
My plan is to enlist as an 18C in the Utah National Guard as soon as I'm finished with school.
Thanks for listening.
Hello all,
I am Brandon and my wife and I live in Fayetteville, NC. I was with the 82nd Abn Div. for 3 years; I did Afghanistan and Iraq with them. I worked at the NSA-Texas from fall 2004 to summer 2005--I missed being a field soldier so I left the NSA quickly. From Summer 2005 till present day I have been on SOT-A 706 for 7th Group. I did AFghanistan in '06 and '07. One of these days I'll do my first ratation down south... yeah, I know, "a case o' beer" for everyone.
I love being a SOT-A, it has allowed me to do some of the greatest things I could ever do in life; however, due to my wife being sick of it and other family things, I'll be hanging up my boots and headphones in a year.
Rest In Peace: Thom Maholic, Joe Fuerst, and Carlo Meth.
Where were you in Division?

Greetings. I stumbled onto this site and am impressed. I have learned much, and the contributers have confirmed alot of things I already knew. I'm a 68W, and heading "over there" soon as the Medic for a MiTT. I hope to run into a few 18D's while on assignment in order to learn more from the best.

Hello, gentlemen.
My name is Mick. Recently graduated college with a BA in Literature. Currently in the DEP for the U.S. Army, current 11B - reclassifying to 35M in order to procure a slot at DLI, DLAB score allowing. ASVAB score of 96.
Right now I'm focusing on the 25 m target: PT, Pre-BCT Task-List, synthesizing as much information as I can from reading and asking soldiers about their experiences, and refreshing my foreign language capabilities.
I've been interested in Special Forces and seek to further my knowledge as it is something I would like to volunteer for down the road. Reading through the various forums on this site I have learned a lot of answers to questions that I had and am looking forward to learning more from the Quiet Professionals. Thank you for allowing me to have that opportunity.

Hello, I'm currently in the DEP with an 18X contract and ship out in less than 8 weeks. I get more excited about the possibility of joining such an elite group of gents as yourselves everyday. I worked at a local gun shop for 2 years under a former Ranger who served with the 2nd Ranger Bt out of Ft. Lewis (was not necessarily encouraged by him, however). Hoping to get a shot at 18C.
A warm welcome to all.

Hello everyone,
My name is Evan, and I am currently serving with the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan. My current MOS is 94F (Special Electronics Device Repair), but have re-enlisted to go 21B once we get back to the States. Anyways, I've enjoyed visiting this site for a while, and figured I should add my intro.
Best Regards,

hello,
im a college student who is aspiring to become a SF operator, interested in learning all i can now.
My name's Otto. I've Been browsing the site for a few weeks and decided to register yesterday. I'm in my senior year at college - pursuing a B.A. in economics. I'll be reading the site, so I thought I should introduce myself. Right now I'm looking into an 18x contract. You'll probably not hear much from me for a few months as I read and learn.
Thanks for creating these forums.

gentlemen,
My name is Mike , ive had the pleasure of working with many of you. I was in the Support Battalion 5th SF from july 86 to june 90. I was involved during the big move era from Ft Bragg to Ft Campbell ,Ky. Back then I was fortunate to wear the beret , and wore no tab. The reason i believe many of you know me is because i had a very rare job , as an airborne medic i worked with the 5th group Dentist. So at some time or another if you were in group during those years we met. My job allowed me to do things and go places that others with my skills would never see , i recieved both Kenyan, and Zaire jump wings and with the study help of many 18d medics , i recieved the Expert Field Medic badge . I have great respect for the men i worked with ,some i have found after all these years , and hope to re-meet some here again, I'd get a kick out of hearing from you. Q course ,shoulda , coulda , woulda, and will always be unfinished buisness in the back of my head , to you young guys goin in , take every opportunity you get nice to meet all of you ,

First off, great site and thanks to every one and their input. This is my first forum experience, and am more interested in learning than being heard. I have been poking around here for a little while and finally decided to introduce myself. I am currently in the middle of a "try one" with the 19th HHC to see if the guard was what I am looking for. I am also weighing my options for going active as an 18x. In time I will probably ask some questions about that, but will make sure someone else hasn't asked them first. Thanks again for a great site.

Good evening, (depending on where you are!)
I have ben enjoying this sight for a few days now, and am exercising my privelage and responsibility to introduce myself.
I am 28 years old and am from southern Oregon. I served the Navy and my country for 4 years as an Aviation Structural/Hydraulic Mechanic. I am curently working for the worlds greatest heavy lift helicopter company primarily doing structural overhauls. I have a great job and get paid well, but have a desire to serve. I want to be a soldier... I want to be a professional... but for now I will just be quiet.
Thanx to the QP's for haveing me!

Hello Gents,
Roy here, Ive posted before here showing my interest. I have made the choice on trying to obtain the 18X contract. As is stands I have a 24 month hold due to me being a prior Marine Officer Candidate. I am doing my best to potentially obtain an "exception to policy" so that I may leave March. If I have to wait, so be it, the wait will be worth it. Wish me luck. If anybody has any suggestions as to "bettering" my chances with this waiver feel free to PM me.

Howdy all.
I've been reading here for a bit.
I'm 25 years old and I have recently renewed my interest in pursuing a career in the Army. I have 30 hours left on my ENGR degree at Texas A&M and I am in the process of finishing that up.
I have been interested in SF from a young age as my dad was in 10th in the late 70s early 80s. He started as a 1LT on a SADM team , and moved up from there and up to the staff as he went on.
I am here to read and learn. I am currently interested in the new NG SF unit that was recently stood up (C/5/19 I believe) but, as I said, I'm primarily gathering information right now.
Also, I mentioned this forum to my dad and he may be joining the discussion as well.
Glad to be here,
Nick

I graduated from Clemson University with a degree in education in history and geography and love to learn because I love to teach.
Thank you for sharing so much valuable information for those unsure about a future in the military.

Lot of good info on here, and thanks to TS and The Reaper for keeping it real.

Hi, I am relatively new to this board however I have been researching the SF career field for a while now. I was a USAF Communications officer for four and am now in Afghanistan as a contractor to Army Material Command. Being over here has made me realize that I want to do more than be “in the rear, with the gear” and having a retired 18C/Z for a partner only adds fuel to the fire. I plan to continue reading and hope to gather as much info as I can about my options/eligibility for joining the Washington NG when I return home.
Thanks for all the effort that goes into maintaining a site like this.
Jace
I'm a brand new 18C and just got to 10th Group 3rd Bn in Dec 2007. I came in under the X-ray program with no prior service.
I've been reading the forums since I found out about this site while I was in the Charlie course. This has been and excellent resource and I look forward to learning as much as possible from everyone involved. Once I get some experience under my belt I will gladly share what I've learned with others.
Thanks to all contributing to and maintaining this site.

Hello all,
I have been reading for some time, using the search button to find the answers I need. This has been a great resource for me and I just wanted to thank everyone here for contributing.
As it stands now, I am a 19D in an infantry brigade headquarters company. I am slotted as a driver. I am also a college student, about 30 hours shy of my degree. For years I have been mulling this over and I have finally decided to be honest with myself, take the step towards the thing I want more than all else.
I am here because I have become disenchanted with civilian life, feeling like I am not doing all I can to change the world, to rid it of evil. My time in the military has been a disappointment since I left OSUT. When I arrived at my unit, I came to the realization that I was no longer in the army I had signed up for. From watching half of the senior NCOs failing the APFT, to getting gruff from a Cadet because he was being paid as an E-5, I no longer felt like I was a soldier in a military unit, but a soldier "playing army" with people who forgot what it meant to be a soldier.
As it stands now, on Monday I am dropping off my 368, and god willing I will be enlisting in the active army, into the 18X program.
I understand that this isn't going to be like some Rambo movie, where I gut my enemy with a machete, or take him down with homemade bow and arrow. I know there is now glamor in being a Special Forces soldier. I know its going suck. I am going to be wet, cold and hungry. I know I am going to ache and hurt, but thats fine, thats the price I am willing to pay, to save those that are oppressed, and are to weak to save themselves. This isn't something I want to do, this is something I have to do.
I'll keep you all posted on the status of my 368, my enlistment, and any training dates I get.
I'd like to thank you all for listening, to thank those that have severed, are serving or plan to take the oath.
I must go now, I have a calling I need to prepare for.
Regards,

Hey everybody!
I am PFC Mollica. 21 Years old stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas. I've been in the Army for almost 2 years now. I am a 14J (Air Defense Artillery) assigned to 11th BGDE. Currently I am deployed with my platoon to Afghanistan on Bagram Air Base. Been here for about 11 months of 15 months and can't wait to get back. I plan on going to selection in September and have been thinking about doing this for some time now. Another motivational tool I have is the amount of Special Forces soldiers here right now and I have been taking advantage of that by talking with them about pretty much every part of Special Forces life. Also have been to the Special Forces range out here and have got first hand instruction from an 18E on marksmanship / cqb drills which have been unbelieveable. Special is somethin I have wanted for a very long time and I am glad I will finally have the chance to do it. I know i'm meant for something more than the conventional Army, something bigger, and I strongly believe Special Forces is it. Thats all I have from this end fellas. Will still train / ruck around bagram to better my odds..
PFC Mollica is out.......
My name is Ian. Right now I am deployed and plan to get the ball rolling on an SF career as soon as I can. I am not much for introductions so that is pretty much it. Hello,
Thank you for the opportunity to be back amongst men of honor. I am a former 1st Grouper. I spent from approximately ten years on active duty from 87-97. My unit assignments were D co. 1/504 82nd (88-91), SWC - Q Course (18B), and then 1st SFG, ODA-141 from 93-97. After leaving the service I spent five years at a police department outside of Dallas, TX. I then went to the Federal Air Marshal Service for a little over five years. I am now a law enforcement instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.
Thanks again for the opportunity to join this group and look forward to catching up with old team mates.

Hello Gentlemen,
I am also known as #77 of SFAS Class 01-00, 21 Day/ Non-selected.
I was boarded on the final day of selection. Due to my imaturity, I quit myself out of anger while sitting on the bleachers waiting for my turn to stand in front of the board. I was invited to return, but chose another path.
Unfortunately regret is forever.
I learned an incredible amount about myself during those three weeks at CM, but I learned more while asking myself why I failed.
Alot of the faces from my youth are fading in my memory, but the faces of the friends I made at selection haunt me to this day.
I found this board by chance and am wondering if there is anyone here who attended or anyone who may know someone from SFAS 01-00.
I am looking for Joe (never learned his last name).
Thank you for your your time, and hopefully I can contribute something.

Joe here. Originally out of SE Ga, been at Bragg since 90. Took the extra long Q course (dang Morse Code and Survival). Got to 1/7 in '92. Stayed there til '01when I got tagged for my SWC tour. Left for 3/3 in '04 where I have been ever since. Seen a lot of changes in SF over the years, not all of it good, but that's the way it is. I will be wrapping things up in a couple of years or so, hopefully to find a job at FLETC or Kings Bay, somewhere near home. Watch the babies grow and take care of my folks. Look for to staying in touch with old friends and making new ones through this board. If there is anything I can do for anybody, let me know. Joe

Hello Quiet Professionals and all others. My name is Jason and I'm 23. I am a big fan of firearms and shooting. I found this site while searching for more information on joining the Army. I am currently speaking to a recruiter and have a strong desire to join. As of now I'm leaning towards 11x or Military police. I just wanted to say thanks for having me here on this great site with tons of info and thanks to all you guys for serving and protecting the freedoms that I enjoy everyday, I am very grateful.
Hello All: Was TDY to 10th Gp in the VERY early 60s, with hopes of attempting to go SF. Until the Army introduced the M-151 1/4 ton Utility. The consequential familiarization with this vehicle destroyed any hopes of a Special Forces career.
And, for a number of years Ive worked with other VOFG who were SF qualified that offered their expertise to potential SF candidates from C/2/19 WVNG.
This site is a wealth of information and memories.

OK Guys, I have been hanging around this site for quite a while and I figured it was time to finally introduce myself. My name is Howie and I retired as a SGM out of 10th Group on 1 Nov 2007. I spent 26 years in the Army, went to the "Q" in 1987, graduated in 1988 as an 18E, and went straight to Ft Devens, MA. Spent 95-96 as an advisor to B-5/19th SFG(A) in Pueblo, CO, then it was back to 10th and Ft Carson, CO in 1997. I went on numerous operations, Desert Storm, Provide Comfort I & II, Restore Hope, Joint Guard, Joint Guardian, and 3 OIF rotations. Took a little time off after retiring, but now work as an Independent Contractor for a Defense Company. :lifter

Hi my name is John. i'm currently an engineer with a company in eastern KY, getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. I have an extremely good friend, which he is more like a father to me, that was in SF throughout the 80's and he has been my military guru since i even thought about joining. If I do go SF he will have given the skills and guidance to do so. I enjoy your site and i will spend quite a bit of time on it in the few days before i leave, and try to check in while deployed. thanks
Hello all. I recently attended SFAS (class 501-07) and came out with 18b, farsi. Looking forward to starting the Q course and hopefully becoming part of the family!
I served with 3rd SFG (A) at Bragg as a CI/Special Agent. I have augmented a number of ODAs and one ODB with a couple of different groups downrange for OEF and the GWOT. I was essentially a collector assigned to augment or lead the intel collection for the numerous ODAs and the ODB for which I was assigned. I've been with 3rd, 7th, briefly with 5th, 19th and 20th groups and their ODAs.
I am now an Instructor (contractor) for a DIA/DoD school here in Arizona. I teach at the Source Operations Course; a course similar to the East and West version of what the 18F does. I work along beside two 18 series guys here in my office, who directed me to this interesting site. I am honored to be a part of it.

I am hoping to contribute, if needed, my LEO experience (since 99). I am by no means a SME on LE activity, but I have been a ptrlman, investigator and back to ptrl as a sgt. I am currently the assistant team leader for our SRT (narc/HRWS). I am also basic SWAT cert.
I am in NE Texas and have 300 acres, love to hunt and fish.
I am currently researching the 1911 platform, having owned 6 Sigs so far, the SA 1911 is new ground and i am hoping to search here and learn.
Lastly, as i tell every Vet i meet, I APPRECITE YOUR SERVICE...
Chris here. I'm a current college senior graduating in May 08. I am currently prepping for the 18x program. I am always looking for information on the program and the military in general.
If anyone can give more advice on how to prep for SFAS, especially with the running, rucking and the purchase of gear to prep for selection I would definitely appreciate it. Thanks guys.

Have you read every thread in both the SFAS and the SFQC forums? If not start reading. There is more info those two forums alone than you will find anywhere else on the web.
Welcome to the site.

Gents,
I joined up to seek out some additional information and solid direction on opportunities and options that exist on the National Guard SF side of the house.
I am former Air Force, I separated last year and am looking to get back into the game and have a few more kicks before it’s too late, I miss the camaraderie you can only get through a close knit unit.

Hey guys, I'm Jon, I'm currently finishing up high school and looking at enlisting either this year or after college, it all depends... either way I am joining up! I love weapons, exercise, and anything pertaining to the military specifically SOF units.
I Came here because of the abundance of fantastic info to help me get into Special Forces. I've read a lot of great things so far and have learned so much in the last three days.

Gentlemen, my name is Anthony and I am non-prior service SF candidate from Alabama enlisted as a REP-63 with the 1/20th SFG. I am scheduled to ship 20080319 to Fort Benning for OSUT. I am 29 years old and currently a high school educator completing an interim position until I ship. SF is something that I have thought about every day since I graduated high school, but have never pursued because of a variety of reasons. Honestly, before the last couple years, I didn’t have the “certainty of path” to commit to it. I tested the ROTC waters in college (LTC and Ranger Challenge) but decided that wasn’t the best route for me. I was fortunate enough to meet and observe a former SF soldier for a month at LTC. He was Cpt. Maes at that point, but was enlisted while in SF. His professionalism and influence burned in me the desire to be like that. Being the first SF soldier I had ever met, he made a big impact. I hope at the successful end of the pipeline I can get in touch with him and thank him for that. I have been fortunate with all my experiences, but through them all I knew I wouldn’t be satisfied if I didn’t pursue this. I’m not a badass, I just want the chance to give all I have, earn and live the tab, and protect my fellow soldiers to the best of my ability. I have been a member for a while, but this will likely be the last time I post until I make some progress in the pipeline. Thanks to everyone who has served and who contributes to this site.

Hello. I am a graduate of USMC OCS awaiting my commission in May after I graduate from college. I came here to read and learn.
Hello all, I am currently stationed at Bragg and slotted for SFAS in March. I came here to seek out all the guidance possible to increase my understanding of the SF mentality. I have thought about this opportunity everyday since my commissioning in May of '04. Any tips for my training prior to SFAS and after during the Q course would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all. I joined this site over 2 years ago but as of todays date I've done nothing but surf and search. I'm not too sure if I've ever posted an introduction so I will do so now (better to error on the safe side). I'm an 11B who's stuck behind a desk wearing a recruiter badge on ADSW for my 9-5. It's a job so I won't complain any more than I just did. I'm a former member of 143rd LRSD in Texas (Great guys down there). I'm currently in 194th LRSD in Iowa, which is an awesome unit. These guys love to jump. Other than my first drill with them last year, I don't think we've drilled without a jump since I've been with them. Sad to say though, we are losing our jump status after June AT. It may be a blessing in disguise for me though. I plan on contacting 20th group in Chicago here soon and work on drilling with them and going to Selection. Enough about me though. Thanks and love the site....Out

I am starting my intro as per the requirements. Hope this is the correct format.
I spent most of my time in the Corps. Bootcamp in 82 and have been in and around the military ever since. Most of my time back then was spent with LAR - the USMC version of Strykers.
Currently I recently reupped with a local National Guard unit and we are looking to go back overseas this summer.
My main goal here is to get some good intel and day to day experiences to learn from prior to this deployment - so I don't repeat someone else's mistakes.
Thanks for your time

Hello all, I just wanted to update my intro since my status has changed a bit.
I'm currently a 2LT with B Co. 1-118 IN (M) of the SC ARNG. I'm headed to the "Benning School for Boys" this weekend to start my BOLCII and IBOLC training.
My guys are all in Afghanistan right now so hopefully I'll find myself a deployment to volunteer for so that I'm not the experience-less leader when they get back.
Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy these boards, its a great resource.

Welcome aboard, Gentlemen!
A quick hello from an area I am sure a lot of you have seen before, Baghdad. I am currently on deployment number 1 of many I am sure I will be a part of in my career. I have the most hated MOS in the military, 31B (MP), and I am proud of it! But, as many of you have know, the only way to do anything is to be the best, and that means Special Forces. Just reading around, there is a great wealth of information and experience here, and I am damn glad I found it.
I hit my IRR years in about 8 months, so I am planning to head back to school to finish that bachelors I started 7 years ago, but during that time I want to start preparing for what I want in the future, SF. I am hoping to gain friends, mentors, and information that will prepare me, and help me meet and exceed the standard. My name is Rob, but some call me Dougie because of a striking resemblance to a cartoon character, and hence my displayed name.
Hello to you all, and glad to meet you!

WELCOME SIR!
Hello gentlemen. I found your website and decided to join. I was active duty US Army 1984-87, first with the old 5th ID(M) at Fort Polk, LA and then with 2/75 Ranger Regt at Fort Lewis WA. Spent 4 years with the old 11th SFG(A) in New York and then went back in during OPN Desert Storm, again with 2/75 RGR. Then SFAS, followed by attachment to 1st SFG(A). Then went to 25th ID(L) at Schofield Barracks HI then Fort Bragg. Out in 98, then went back into the NJARNG in early 2001. Did a Homeland Defense mission with them and then went to 2/20SFG(A) in MD. Spent 5 years there and ETS'd in 2007. I got tired of them pleading poverty on school funds. I worked as a Range Safety Officer at Fort Dix, NJ and now work as a bored DA civilian at the soon to be closed Fort Monmouth NJ. I think about goingback in to get my 20 if I can get in shape.

I got tired of them pleading poverty on school funds..
I can say unequivocably that at present and for the forseeable future, neither money nor school slots are an issue within the NGSF as far as getting people qualified goes. Meet the standards and your unit Training NCO will do up the paperwork to send you to whatever schools are needed for you to become fully qualified.
Just wanted to make sure that anyone reading this and thinking about joining the Guard didn't draw an incorrect conclusion about the present state of qualification pipeline courses.

Hi everybody. I am Greek, 44 years old, live in Greece, served in the Air Force, rank held sgt.
Dream since childhood was to be a special forces officer, unfortunately I have colour-blind deficiency (red-green). Never made it.
I studied Finance but was for a few years a defence issues reporter for specialised Greek magazines, (AMYNTIKA THEMATA, AMYNA DIPLOMATIA in case any greek speakers read this) with a focus on Special Ops/CT and still follow developments (intensively) despite the fact that my business is in the financial sector.
From time to time I free-lance some articles as a hobby and in order to inform people about what special ops/operators realy do.
I have a huge file on almost every unit of USSOCOM and most books on the same topic.
Interested on info (without OPSEC violations) and any people of greek origin serving actively in SOF.
Not experienced with forums, (although i am a frequent viewer) hope I dont put my foot in my mouth.
PS: There are a lot of people outside the US that appreciate what some people have to sacrifice serving the GWOT, especially in SOF.
Hope politicians dont screw up... again!

what's going on everyone...well a little about myself for this intro, I joined the army in early 2002 as an 11b, went to the 10th MTN Div, in which my 1st deployment was attached to SF through the whole year of 03-04, working with 5th group and then 10th later on. Most memorable part of that deployment was working with ODA xxx in samarra. My squad lived there in the house with them working with them day in and day out. I was later deployed again shorly after that in 05 after we got back home to Baghdad. Then I switched MOS' to a 68W, b/c of one of the team members in 092, Ken XXXXXXX, I saw all the awesome things he was able to do for some folks in samarra and thought that maybe it would be great to be able to save lives. He is the reason that I am working as a medic now and he is the reaon I am about to attend SFAS, we stayed in touch ever since that 1st deployment and he was talking me into joining the ranks of the green beret. Which I plan on going through selection soon and hoping to be an 18D. So I hope that I can soon make it through and do half as good a job on a team as what I saw he was able to do. Well I think I have overdone it a bit on this intro, sorry for making it so long fellas, but thought I would give a brief background on myself. Have a Great day all!

Good evening all. My name is Casey, I'm active duty Navy since 1992. Currently serving as the communications Chief at JMAST Europe. We, JMAST, set up mobile C4I facilites for Commander Naval Region Europe taskings. It's a small command, my first small unit experience, and I love it. The comradre is a whole different level than what I'm used to on shipboard life. I "stumbled" upon this site while researching rucks. I immediately noticed that this board was different, the Moderators had ROE and actually enforced them. I like that.
Thanks for letting me be a guest.

Discovered this site while surfing the web a few nights ago. I was an 18B in 10th Group (071, A Co, 3rd BN) 84-86. Left active duty to go into law enforcement. Was with 12th Group in Los Alamitos from 86-89. Been a cop for 20 years now. Came close to going back with the 19th in Los Alamitos in 2004 but I was transfered to our homicide division and that assignment requires a major time commitment. Been checking out a lot of the threads. Found a 12th Group one that had a link to their website that I didn't know about. Good stuff. Recognized a few names. There's 4 of us from 071 that have stayed in touch the past 20+ years, Phil XXXXXXX, James XXXXXX, George XXXXXX and myself (Tim XXXXX). In fact, we're looking at getting together in VA towards the end of this year. Anyways, I think this is enough of an intro. I'll be posting up later in some of the 10th and 12th Group threads.

I have been a silent viewer of this forum for over a year now so I guess it's time to introduce myself. I am a Sgt in 10th Mountain currently deployed and am attending SFAS when I redeploy. I have had the opportunity to do some work with various SF teams over my 2 deployments and have been impressed by the professionalism and skills that those men have shown. For a long time I viewed special forces as a unachievable goal only reached by "supermen" but after working with them and seeing several of my friends earn the beret and tab I realize that with some motivation and hard work I too can succeed. I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Welcome aboard Shelley. I know your Mom, a terrific lady, and knew your Dad. He never missed a trick. When your Mom found out I was taking over the Special Warfare Training Group somehow she she found out a nickname bestowed on me in previous assignments (your Mom was always good at finding things out) and mentioned it to your Dad. He created a rubber stamp for me that I now use as my avatar on this site, more in rememberance of him than anything else.

Hi, the name is Rick, Went through boot camp at Ft. Knox in 1976 then was a straight leg. In 1983 joined the 12th SF in Arlington Hts Il. Went to jump school then radio operator school at Ft Gordon. Like the site
Hello all...I'm an FNG just accepted to 2-20th, MS, prepping for selection and learning as much as I can on this site...it's already been extremely helpful. Prior AF enlisted/officer, ALO deployments w/ 10th Mt and III Corps. It's an honor and the opportunity of a life-time attempting to become one of the best.
I would like to apologise to everyone here for not taking the time to do this prior to starting to post here. Please allow me the opportunity to do so now.
I was originally a Rep-63 from Co. A, 1st BN, 20th SFG (ABN) out of Auburn, Al. During training I had a major injury -- self-correcting hip dislocation with massive labral tear as well as psoas ligament tear among the other connective tussues involved. Two arthroscopic reconstructive hip surgeries later found me having worked establishing the Battalion level medical facility side by side with a close friend for the 3/4 ADAR, 82nd ABN Div. in 2002.
I was then chosen to assist then SGT Danny R in establishing the medical/processessing facility for the 18x program in early 2003 as a 68W, under the direct supervision of then MSG Adrein L and Co. commander we know here as Warrior-Mentor, and I ran daily operations there under the guidance and signature of Col. Warner J. "Butch" A, then Associate Dean of JSOMTC. He was my provider and I worked and reported directy under and to him.
I was most fortunate and honored to have worked with many 18D's, PA's and other medical professionals from the SOF and SF communities during this time frame (3 yrs.) , especially SurgicalCric during his holdover time at SOPC due to shoulder injury. Being allowed to attend multiple classes of the various levels of the 18D course along the way has helped dramatically in building my level of experience as a medic and I am forever indebted to all the men who have given me that opportunity. I am actually deployed at present with Maj. John M, formerly of Group. He taught me a great deal back at SWC, and has continued in this venue here in the sandbox.
I took a break in service (mid-'05 to'06) where I worked along side a wonderful Doctor of Hematology and Oncology in Fayetteville for the better part of a year, where I learned more about blood-borne diseases and etiologies as well as lab techniques. I finally decided to return to active duty as I missed the comraderie and the lifestyle, and was in great hopes of coming back over to the SOF side of things. Instead I found myself deploying to Iraq for now 15 months running teams for EVAC out of the TIF ER at Bucca. We've received many injured from outside the wire, IED, VBIED, EFP, small arms trauma, etc. as well as dealing with the riots, d-on-d violence, regular codes, etc. I have done my best to learn from the trauma docs and nurses here and will continue to be open to anything I can learn from this site and the Professionals who post so much practical knowledge. And as I've stated elsewhere in the forum in general am looking forward to going to SFAS (hopefully within the next 6 to 8 months) and becoming a Special Forces Medical Sergeant, one step at a time.
I have held ACLS, ATLS, PALS certs, but the unit I am currently with did not see the wisdom of sending me to the recert's for these for some ungodly reason. Hence my reason for wanting to go back to the other side of the fence.
That is my history. I have letters from both Col. A and now SGM L if there are any questions as to the validity of my claims here.
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this community.
Warmest Regards,
Mick H

my names TJ. I found your site yesterday and was instantly hooked on it. Ok so a little about me, I'm currently a senior in H.S. and am also preparing for college (thanks to a 4 year AROTC scholarship). I have wanted to serve in the United States Army since I was very young and in the past few years I have grown to have a lot of interest in Special Operations. Currently I serve in the Civil Air Patrol which is the Civilian Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. I look forward to reading all of the valuable information on this site and participating in conversation where appropriate.

The first time that I visited this site, I posted an introduction but something must have gone wrong as I'm now being told to post once again.
I attended the Q Course back in '79 as a Wpns Sgt and was stationed at 3rd Bn 10th SF until '86. During my tour in the 10th, I served in Beirut in '84 as well as numerous OCONUS assignments to western europe. I served with ODA's 071 and 095 during this time frame and attended a ton of schools... ranger, halo, scuba, SOT, commo, O&I, and German language to name a few.
I left active duty and joined the 12th SF and was on ODA 1245 from '88 - 93 when I moved to Colorado and transferred to the 19th. I was the Asst Opns Sgt and Opns Sgt for a team in B Co. 5th Bn 19th SFG(A) until '97. During this timeframe, I was activated for Operation Uphold Democracy and served a tour in Haiti(1995).
In '01, I re-joined 5th BN 19th in January and became Team Sgt of ODA 981 in Sep after 9/11. My team was activated for OEF in Dec and I spent the next 18 months on active duty and served a tour in AF. My team did a great job over there and it was definitely the highlight of my SF career.
I retired from the Army National Guard in Aug 2004 and have been active in the SFA ever since. This is a great website and I hope that it continues.
On a side note... please visit http://operationgumdrop.org and show your support for our deployed SF teams that are downrange.

Tim,
Thanks for the reply. I left 071 and moved to 095 right after I came back from Beirut in '04. I'm guessing Woody, Mark, Rob and Sly were still there for awhile. I ran into Woody when 10th moved to Colorado but, that was about 11 years ago now. How time flies...
Truth be told... I received an AR-15 for insubordination against the Team Cdr and the BC decided I was better off by switching companies. I think the CDR's last name was NXXX??? The Team Sgt at the time was Dave BXXXXX, I think. Man, my memory is going...

Welcome aboard Gent's!
Good day to you all,
My name is Sebastiaan, I started reading here some time ago and have never stopped. This place is a truly filled with a wealth of knowledge, and I plan on learning more here. I am one of the owners of a company in the Netherlands, we sell to the general public as well as to military and law enforcement.
After attending the Shot show in Las Vegas this year and meeting several of the board members there and getting a chance to talk with them prompted me to get my intro on here and start to help where I can and keep listening and learning where I can't.

Hi all. I'm a soldier in the Va. National Guard who's been considering going SF. Though the research I found this forum and liked the potential I saw for education. I've taken note to the standards and plan to ease myself into the community. Have fun.
I’m a former E-5(P), 67V20 Aero Scout Crew Chief. Joined the Army in 1985. Spent about 13 years total in Germany, mostly military, some civilian time as well. Stationed in the Ansbach area. Deployed to Desert Storm with D Troop 1-1 CAV 1st AD. In aviation my entire career, I’m currently working in airline quality assurance as an Inspector. I have been reading this forum for all kinds of info because it is helpful reading other ppl's first hand thoughts and opinions on various topics...everyone's posts have all had some kind of worthwhile value, unlike countless other forums these days.
I am very thankful for everyone sharing what they know on this forum.

Hello,
I am not a member of the Special Forces, so I don't have any stories to tell or information to share, but I've always been very interested in that profession and I highly respect the soldiers who choose that path. So I'm just here to learn what I can, and to show support for you guys!
My name is Sierra, I'm 21-years-old, and I have been in the Army for 4 1/2 years now under the MOS of a 45B, one deployment to Iraq down, probably quite a few more to go. Not sure if I'm going to make a career out of the military yet, but one thing's for sure, I'll never regret the experiences I've had while serving.
Thank you for letting me join your site, God bless :)

To the Quiet Professionals,
My name is Jason and I was referred to this website by a member of the 20th SFG a few days ago. I'm 25 years old and graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a BA in Communication Studies in December '06. At this point in my life, I have not served, however the National Guard is always something that I have considered, even more so now that I'm out of school. I'm currently exploring my options of joining the NG and finding my way into either the 19th or 20th SFG. This site has a great wealth of knowledge within each forum and I expect to learn a lot from you gents. As you may expect, my time here will mostly be spent reading and researching - not posting.
Thank you all for the incredible job you perform downrange. Take care.
Jason
Welcome Jason. Full names are not needed. Team Sergeant
Edit: My apologies, TS; thank you for the welcome aboard.
Hello,
I am "Sparky" out of Denver, Colorado. I am going to MEPS on Saturday the 23rd with the intention to come out of that nut house in REP 63 for the 5/19th SFG here in Colorado. I have always wanted to join, I even tried when I was a senior in high school, but being color blind stopped that. It was stopped until I took the time and initiative to research it my self and found that you have to be able to differentiate vivid red and vivid green, which I can. Funny thing about getting older; you become more mature and pro-active.
Well, back to reading the stickies and other posts.

Hi, I am the juggernaut! I am a 18D in 1st SFG (A). My interests include working out, endurance events (such as triathlons and marathons) :lifter:lifter and following professional and college sports. I have come to this site hoping to interface with fellow SF'ers, particularly other 18D's in order to exchange ideas and information concerning all aspects of the 18D field. In return, I too can be a good source of knowledge due to my long duration in the community and many deployments to fun and exciting places. :cool:I am excited to be included in the company of such a fine group of professionals. I'm "bluenote" and I'm a lurker (The kind on the website, not the kind outside of windows or in dark alleys). I signed on to send a PM to a member. I also had some questions about my eyesight for The Reaper... Just kidding sir. I really enjoy the site, now back to where I came from. BN
I'm Kyle, joined up here a few weeks ago to read and learn. Working towards getting selected in a few years, and just spending most of my free time learning and preparing. Looking to find someone with contacts at 10th in Germany, so I can get some face time with some of the guys over there. Other than that, I'll probably continue to read more than I post.
Oh, and I'm addicted to rucking. Luckily, Germany has endless trails for me to explore.

Previously, I was in the Army Reserves as a medic. Last October I resigned into the National Guard as a 96B (M.I.). I am a wannabe working towards tryouts. I am overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge and professionalism. Thank you! I have learned a lot in two days reading and utilizing the search button. I do not foresee an intelligent question that I will have in the immediate future, therefore this will probably be my last post for a few months while I listen and learn. Thank you for the opportunity to absorb this knowledge. Your efforts are appreciated. Now back to that search button...:munchin

Hello, I'm a full time student at the University of Florida. I have a double major and a minor. Anthropology, Building Construction, and Managerial Business. Lets just say I was exploring majors. :) I ride for Team Florida which is the U and F cycling team. I also work at the gym as a facilities Manager at Southwest Rec. Center. I have one more year of schooling and its off to the races (18 X-ray). I have yet to talk to a recruiter but more than anything in the world do I want to be a Special Forces Soldier that is Ranger qualified. As of now I keep Florida from getting any closer to Cuba by doing push-ups every second and keep the effect of the Miami sea breeze by running everywhere in Gainesville.
Thanks for your time and effort on this site, and of course your service.

Quiet Professionals,
A brief introduction: My name is Taylor. Currently, I am a second-year law student. I have been accepted for a summer internship program with Army JAG of which I am told, with a successful show this summer, will result in an active duty position. However, my heart keeps urging me in another direction, SF.
There is a plethora of information on the site and my gratitude goes out to all those who have contributed. I am sure it will help me in the decision making process with regard to pursuit of JAG or SF.

My words seem futile here, but I had to post this introduction in hopes of maybe establishing a commo line on this site. Quiet Professionals,
My name is Darrell, I've been a guardsman for 5 years now. I knew the guard wasn't going to be enough for me so I'm in process for a transfer into active duty. Hoping to get in the SF pipeline right away, and been preparing my mind and body for the training for the last year since back from the sandbox. I'm motivated to attend the schools and hopefully be among the most elite in the military.
If you havn't seen my profile info, I was deployed to Iraq from Aug 05-Aug 06 doing convoy secruity missions. I enjoyed that mission and never think it was a waste of time. I feel fortunate to get that mission because I got the opportunity see and learn more than most units got to.
I'll enjoy shifting through the infinate knowlidge this site has to offer. And thank you to those that created it because this place maybe one of few you are not going to get a bullshit answer to. (Unless you ask a dipshit question "ie" could have use the search button). Thank you to those serving and stay safe.

Hello All,
Although my introduction isn't of any high value/importance, I do understand following protocol.
I live in a small town near Raleigh, NC. I just recently graduated from high school, and will most likely be attending North Carolina State University in the fall.
Admittedly, I am an 'Army Bratt' , and I have always had a high interest in becoming a 'Quiet Professional'.
Right now I am in the process of gaining more information about the entry into 20th Sfg in Roanoke Rapids, it would be a blessing to be able to serve while going to school.
Thank you for allowing civilians and non-MOS Q'd individuals to join this forum, it really surprised me that you allow it.

Not to mention making mobilization and deployments afterwards.

Hello all, been reading here for awhile and thought I did this a long time ago. I retired from the service in 04 after 23 years. 2 & 1/2 years in the 82nd the rest in SF. Never been in SWC and have always been on a team, won't count the year I spent in SFC, 9/11 got me out of there. I consider myself a 7th Group man but spent from 9/11 to retirement in 3rd. I have a question I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but will post in the discussion area for input. Congrats on a great site.
Sorry second intro, did'nt find 1st.

My name is Matt. Been in the Army for 15 years. 12 elisted and the last three as an LT. In the NG in TN. Looking to move up to Indy and transfer to 20th. Tryouts next month.
Was in Afghanistan last year and had a chance to work with a couple of teams and talk to a lot of the team guys. Like the way they handle business and cut out a lot of BS. Decided to make a life change when I got back and do what it takes to join the life. Took me a while to find the unit I want to go to and train up.
Could use any advice and TTP's that may be out there. I'm no spring chicken, but what I lack in youth I make up in tenacity. Looking forward to checking this site for more Knowledge, I can never get to much of that.

Hello Sirs,
My name is Andrew, I'm 23 years old. I'm a senior at a University in Pennsylvania. I've been interested in joining the military since I was just a little guy. My father was a career AD Army soldier, so he is some of my inspiration for wanting to join. My dad was asked to join SFOD-D, and I think him telling me about that is what made me so curious to the SF community.
(He turned them down though, as he was just starting our family at the time.)
Every time I think about what I've wanted to do with my life, the only thing I can come up with is that I want to make a difference. In my eyes I believe the SF community does just that. That is my motivation and I know if I give it everything I've got and never give up that I will make it.
I graduate in June with a degree in Business Information Systems. I'm a very inquisitive person, I love to learn. From that love I came upon this fantastic site, and I have found a lot of valuable information. I would like to say thank you to everyone here who keeps these boards run top-notch, you guys do a fantastic job. I've lurked for a few months on and off learning everything I can.
What I'd like to get from being here is to understand more about the community of all the QPs out there. There is so much to learn from this site, not just knowledge but attitude, I've always been a person to ask a lot of questions so that I might understand things better. After reading a lot of what everyone has posted here it has helped me be a better listener, and I think as result better learner.
I'd like to thank you all for your service to your respective countries. I am a very patriotic person and I believe being a serviceman is the most honorable profession there is.

Hi all,
I'm Parker, and live in Virginia. I was only in the Army for 3 years. Two with SF. My tour in Vietnam was six months at B-42 in Chau Doc as admin officer. Second 6 months with C&C Fob 2, in Kontum. On paper I was company commander of a Yard company, and maybe for a very brief time the senior American at the Yard camp out of town.
I went out with a ST a couple times, then went to HF for most of the rest. I never did anything exciting or brave (stupid, yes.). But, am very proud to have been with SF and SOG.
In the field, I was bombed by US planes twice. Strafed by 50 cal from our Vietnamese navy once (during Tet). And minor hit from M-79 our point man used in hammer anvil "exercise". Got minor equipment damage from one of the Yards in my squad, when he chucked a grenade over my head. Damn near fragged by a friend behind the Yard camp, where he was practicing silently releasing grenade spoon. ( It was raining, and grenade slipped.)
Enemy only tried to get me twice. But, they were more successful. Grenade frags while I was going to R&R through Da Nang. They hit the HQ the night I was there, so I spent R&R on the USS Sanctuary.

I spent a bunch of time in the Chau Doc, AO. Flew a lot of missions in support of those people.
We had been working that area since O dark thirty (one day), hot rearming, hot refueling, we were finally released and landed for hot lunch. My crew was refused lunch and told we could eat our cold "C" rats. So I bombed the mess hall with our "cold "C rat's". Caught a little hell from our BN Co (Bill Maddox), but he was laughing at the time.

To all involved in this site a quick thank you for the wealth of information provided here. Currently I am a dismount M240B gunner in a Bradley platoon. I am not currently looking at trying out for SF, just trying to better myself as a soldier for a swift approaching deployment to Iraq. Hello all-
Here doing research. Went to college, got a good job, and despite that I'm still not entirely happy with where I am at...I've dreamed of being in the military since I can remember. I have my own reasons for wanting to serve, and I'm currently trying to decide if I can live with myself for not doing what I want to and doing what those closest to me think I should. I sincerely appreciate y'all for giving outsiders the chance to observe (and apparently all too frequently ask stupid questions prior to utilizing the search function) a little slice of life for the SF soldier.

Greetings all. I found this site through snipershide.com in search of some quality info on SF; From what I have seen so far I am enjoying my stay.
A little background about me: I served four years in the army as a 14E (Patriot Air Defense) and left after my enlistment completely dissatisfied. A lot of that was due to the fellow soldiers in my unit who were either over-weight, unmotivated, or just total dirt bags that only assisted in bringing down the morale of the rest of the troop. Lest I forget a few certain leaders I had that didn't help matters much either. I did manage to earn the rank of Sergeant and attended Air Assault and PLDC, so my time was not spent completely in vain.
So to catch up to present day, I have been working jobs here and there for the past 2 years and trying to get the most out of civilian life that I can, attending college as well. However, I have been throwing around the decision of re-enlisting as an 18X for the past 3-4 years of my life, and I've finally decided I want to do it. After so much soul searching, I believe it is what I am meant to do in life, and I will put every ounce of dedication and motivation I have into it.
Lastly, one of my buddies I came up through the ranks with (E1 to E5) is in SERE school as I type this, and he's been giving me info and helping to fuel my motivation.
That about sums it up for now, I hope I didn't waste to much of your time for you to read this. I'll chime in if I feel I have something productive to add. (Which given the amount of information here, I doubt that will happen for awhile.)
BTW: I have been playing the guitar for 10 years as well, obviously that would be my number one thing to do in life, but it doesn't quite pay out so well unless you are extremely lucky. :D

I just want to say hello to everyone. Although I was never in any part of Special Forces, I do admire the ones who were. I did spend a time in the Army Reserves as a 73C Finance Specialist (I know, sucky job). I was a member of the 336TH FIN CMND in Louisiana. I should be joining the Army National Guard soon with a military intel (I know, two words that shouldnt be in the same sentence, lol) position.
Currently I work as a deputy sheriff in a southern Louisiana parish.
Again, awesome site.

My first name is Thaddeus(Teddy) F.
I started my service with the 82nd ABN,took a "short" discharge to get into the 77th SF..... There was a cut back and I was shipped to the 11th ABN in Germany...I than reuped for the 10th SF and was sent once again back to Germany...After that discharge I enlisted in the 12th SF (RESV)...Service dates 1954-1966...
I've been checking out the sight for a few weeks. I appreciate the straightforward information. No prior service for me but that will change when I earn my degree in december '08.
When I was a kid my sister dated a Special Forces Soldier and he made quite an impression on me. He was knowledgeable about nearly every topic and polite and took the time to encourage me when he did not need too. I went into business for myself right out of high school and I have always looked back at that decision with something close to regret.
I feel for some of the non prior guys on here that are wanna be's or never was's, it eats away at you. My plan is to give it my all in a few months (whether its 18x or OCS or thru the NG, i don't yet know, but this site really helps with that). I havent yet had a question that wasn't answered on the site or by an email to my recruiter.
Thank you to all that have served and thanks to the QP's that take the time on here to help those of us that are getting ready to.

Gentlemen,
First I would like to thank you for your service to our country and maintaining this site. This site is truly a cornucopia of invaluable Special Forces knowledge for those of us that have not Been There or Done That. I myself am a 25 year old student of chemistry attending MTU. I plan on joining the Army under the 18x program as soon as I feel I am capable of doing the things that will be required of me. The only thing I know for sure is that I have a long hard road in front of me that will require me to prove myself with every step. Enough said, time for me to step back into the gray man position and do some PT!

Hi to all. I am fairly new to the SOF community, 4 years and counting but I know that this is where it's at. You have a great professional learning site going here and I am happy to be part of it.

Hello all, my name is Tim. I'm an Army ROTC cadet at the Rochester Institute of Technology. My brother was Army Special Forces, 3rd Bn 3rd SFG ODA 371, killed in Afghanistan October 2003. I'm just looking forward to an opportunity to talk to anyone that might have known him and/or served with him. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to do so, and I look forward to learning a lot from everyone on the site, especially the QPs.

Gentlemen, Hello
I am a fireman in California as well as the AF Res. I have always been intrigued by SF. Last year, in Kirkuk, I had my first encounter with a QP. My interest in SF has grown exponentially each month, and has been solidified upon discovery of "PROFESSIONAL SOLDIERS". My search for information has found no source to rival this forum. The quality and professionalism with which your site is conducted is only bested by the wealth of knowledge to be had. Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
Respectfully,
Ryan25
I retired from RA Active Duty in '98 and was a 45K Armament Repairer for 22 yrs. I joined at the end of Cambodian Year Zero and things were too peaceful for me . I mainly supported INF, CAV, and AR units OCONUS and loved every minute of it. 1 tour each in Bamberg, Schweinfurt, Vilseck, GE; and 1 in Cairo, EG. My CONUS time was spent instructing at Weapons Dept, APG, MD. Last tour was on a Tech Assistance Fielding Team for M1A1 Tanks in Egypt. Yes, they have the latest generation of 555 of our latest M1A1s (built in their own co-production factory, no less, 120mm guns too...scary stuff). We helped them move, shoot, communicate, and maintain their newly fielded stuff. Challenges were many, obstacles always, but I enjoyed it. I didn't make the 8 list and my RCP was 22 yrs, so no choice but retirement:boohoo. A few months later after I was out, the Army changed the RCP to 24 yrs:mad:
I love anything that goes bang as well as fixing it when it doesn't. I had great pride and joy supporting the Combat Arms units and made many good friends with members of them. Now I maintain combat simulators such as EST2000, M1A1/M2A2 Conduct Of Fire Trainers, and LAV-25 Combat Vehicle Training System. These simulators allow me to still interface with the people, equipment, and tactics, but I really miss the real thing. All but war is a simulation,

Hello,
Im a 29 y/o doing research and checking out the site (also on armybasic.org) to see if the Army and SF is what I want. My past history, I was a Jet mechanic for 6 years and I am currently a mechanical Designer. But I find it unfulfilling.
Prior to deciding to go army I weighed 263#s im currently down to 219#s and running some serious mileage, and pushing the pavement. So Ill be hitting the recruiter once Im sure I can get a 300 on the apft. and im below 205#s. .
Currently reading Chosen Soldier (by Dick Couch) I tried getting on warrior-mentor.com (to aquire more reading material) but it appears to be down.
If anybody knows a good "Day in the Life" article on here Id appreciate it, so far the search results havent been promising.
Thanks, Jason
