I would first just like to say that this site has given my friends and myself an invaluable amount of advise and hard won experience, for that I respectfully thank you. I am 17 preparing myself for enlisting in the Army under a Ranger Contract. Due to my utter lack of real life experience I have no idea if I will someday have the chance to go through SFAS, but as of now I certainly intend to if I prove to my peers and myself that I am worthy. For now I'm just learning all that I can, thanks again for this great site.

I ended my contract with the Marine Reserves in Dec of 07.
I served as a radio operator, with a deployment to Iraq, I still was not satisfied. While in the reserves, I read "Masters of Chaos" 4 years ago which pretty much made me realize that it is the special forces that i will one day join. After reading about the special forces, my interest in the Marine Corp was slowly diminishing leaving me out of place, but don't get me wrong, I still gave my 100% in the Marines. I have been talking to a recruiter and been doing research. I will be signing up for the 18x after i finish college and am excited, motivated, and nervous currently following warrior mentor program... there are nights when i can not sleep thinking about the special forces and their missions, FID, Counter Terrorism, Unconventional Warfare, Direct Action, and Special Reconnaissance.

I wish my brother would also see the light...There's something about those Marine O's that I don't really understand...and don't like.

I am investigating joining the Army. I have some things I need to get squared away before I ask for a recruiter's time, so in the interim I have been trying to self educate as much as possible. I don't plan on posting much here, but wanted to have the introduction completed just in case.

Hello, gentlemen. I recently discovered this site while gathering information on the 18x program (specifically) and SF life (in general). I doubt I'll be posting much, but I'd like to absorb all of the information and knowledge that I can.

That said, I'm 25 years old, have two degrees, have been in IT since high school - and find that I don't really want to sit behind a desk for the entirety of my life. With that in mind, the military became a thought. My father was a LRRP with the 101st in Vietnam (68-69), so the Army is the service I know the most about - and if I decide to enlist, it'll be with the Army.

Thank you for this site, I look forward to reading a great deal.

First off I'd like to say thank you for the great service you have all done for the country. Thank you for allowing me to take part in this community, this forum is an amazing resource, and the "staff" seem to be the finest around. Another thank you to Major Martin and contributors for writing "Get Selected." I will do my best to utilize your efforts!

Ah! I registered almost precisely 24 hours ago, I've been studying up on the forum pretty much since. My name is Nicholas Naccarato. I'll ask that you pardon my ignorance, I am a quick learner and an aggressive study, but I have no prior military experience, and may have additional questions in the future. I'll also apologize in advance, as this introduction will likely possess the length of a short novel! I feel compelled to share with you all, mainly because I'm very honored to be associated in your community, and I think you all, if any, deserve to hear my intentions.

Down to business. I believe that we, as flawed beings, learn little by being correct, and learn everything by being wrong... and boy have I been wrong. With the experience from my adolescence and teen years I've gained much appreciated wisdom. I'll be 21 in May, but I like to think I've been around longer. Part of that is probably because I am like a sponge, time becoming irrelevant with all I soak in and observe, no matter the significance. I've always had a fascination with military, strategy, ghastly obstacles, and spectacular feats. There is nothing that agrees with me more than a challenge. Give me a puzzle, and I'll be damned if I can't figure it out. I thoroughly enjoy questions, simply because the answer leads to knowledge. I feel I've learned enough, to share with others- usually family, friends, or any new acquaintance I might meet. I started writing small pieces of literature, from an unbiased standpoint, and displaying it to small communities. I feel as though it'd be almost...selfish, to not share the things I've learned, knowing it may benefit another. I haven't been recruiting soldiers (yet) but merely offer my assistance to a generation that is plagued with bad decisions, a generation that does things merely to fit in or because their family pressured them into what looks good on paper...instead of chasing their true ambitions.

I know now that I am walking the line that is my destiny, and anyone who truly believes in their destiny will never fall short of achieving it. I've always wanted to make a positive difference, a beneficial impact. I decided to enlist, started looking for MOS's that suited my desires. I came across the 18x program, and haven't passed it since. The more I read, the more motivated I become. I've always been a warrior, but I'm more of a diplomat. I respect a weapon, but I honor reason. Anything I do, I strive to achieve the greatest level. It's become less surprising to me why I'm so willing to dedicate my life, sacrifice anything I have to, just to have the opportunity to be a part of the team. I'm committed, an absolute believer, doubtless.

You're probably thinking right now how the guy that wrote this must be related to Steve Irkel..haha. Actually I've been an athlete, and competitor, my whole life. I live in Tacoma, Washington. My family has been as committed to making a difference as I am- but now it's my turn to put in the work. I don't have a gal, kids, or lengthy strings. I'd like to serve active duty as long as I can carry my ruck. I do have 9 weeks to prepare before leaving for basic, which I'm using to train and study. I also have had the pleasure of consulting with an ex-SF who began his touring in Viet Nam and later became part of the 7th. I've been so enthusiastic about starting the training that I've been unable to sleep or read/watch anything unrelated to the task at hand.

All,
I enjoy this site a great deal. I am a former 18D out of 1 SFG(A). I spent my time at Lewis and still live in the area. I ETS'd 2004 so that I could actually deploy to a combat zone and do what I was trained to do. I have been in Iraq working in the high-risk contractor field off and on over the last three and half years.

All,
I found this site a few weeks ago. I went through the "Q" in 1988 as an
18E. Spent time in B/2/10, ODA 053..aka..Dark Brothers, (88-93). Did time at SWC on the ECO Committe (93-96). Jumped the fence in 96 to go to OCS. Came back in 2001 to attend the "Q" as an "O" Went to A/2/7, ODA 744. Good times in the desert and down south:cool: Just finished up an ROTC gig out here in CA where I retired.

All,

I’m a former 25S4O prior to commissioning into the AG Corp (last year) via G2G ADO. Even though I didn’t commission into a maneuvers branch, I still aspire to become an 18A once my year group is eligible. In the meantime, I’ll continue to PT, work towards excelling as an AG officer and contribute as much as I can to my unit. I’m currently with USARSO and look foward to some great training opportunities; as well as the possibility of attending both airborne and ranger school during my stay here – if not, I’ll drive on.

I take great pride in being a professional soldier. Hopefully, my career goals will come to fruition and I’ll be given the opportunity to become an 18A. Thus far, my searches here have answered the mass majority of my questions. I thank you for that.

Wouldn't count on getting a lot of school slots while on a theater army staff.

That is something to try and get as part of a PCS, if AG branch will entertain it at all.

Agreed.

The current trend here leaves room for a little bit of hope. These options were presented to me when I got here and I couldn't believe it. I'll believe it when I see orders.

Hi, my name is Glenn. I was active duty 86-92 as a 13 Fox. I served with 8th ID in Germany, 10th MTN, and the 82nd. I submitted a SFAS packet in 92 but tore 2 ligaments in my right knee before my school date. I decided to get out afterwards under the force reduction plan. Last year, I joined the NC National Guard and am currently in Phase 0 of OCS.
My first encounter with quiet professionals was in Bad Toltz, Germany at a school called platoon confidence training. Great school, learned a lot and was very impressed with the staff's professionalism.
I have already learned and remembered a lot just from browsing the site. Thanks for letting me onboard.

Greetings,

I am a currently serving Peace Corps Volunteer and I will be finishing my service in the summer of '08. I am doing research into SF as a career.

I haven't "pulled the trigger" in my mind that SF is what I want to do yet. This website is helping me to make an educated decision and I have found the info on here to be extremely useful. I am looking at how my experience as a PCV could be applicable if I choose to pursue becoming a SF soldier.

Thank you gentlemen for everything you do. My hat goes off to you all.

Spent 20 years in 10th SFG(A) as a Jr/ Sr Medic, Asst Ops, Tm Sgt, Company Ops and worked in the Group 3 shop. I was injured and moved out smartly from the Springs, in '03, and the Army then assigned me as a IET training company 1SG for combat medics. Lost connect with the original site when it talked about SWC. Now retired and currently working as a Senior Plans Officer at MEDCOM Hqs.

Allow me to introduce myself.

Heard about this site from a couple of the guys at work. Decided to check it out, and unlike them, actually signed up! I think they were intimidated by "Team Daddy" and the other QP's.

Anyway, I'm an active duty 18Z stationed at Carson. Just gave up my last ODA in November, and now I'm running a detachment in the fledgling OTC or OpsDet as it was originally called.

Looking for a QP who knows me to "sponsor" me. Ping me by PM if you're from 10th and are interested.

Good day all. I've struggled with this post, and figured I'd just put it out there. Now seperated from our military, I have performed on several missions with a variety of special operations units. I'm a Psyoper. I've been forced on SEALs, SFODA's, Conventional combatant commands, even TF-20/121, Task Force "unmentionable", etc. I'm struggling with why we would share these things with others. How do we foster new generations of elite soldiers, without feeling like we're tooting our own horns? It seems the more we try to qualify ourselves, we reduce the image that makes us who we are. Those that want what we've got, want it for the wrong reasons. So, I'll let my introduction go at that. Is there a better way of telling a little about myself?

I am 30 years old and interested in 37F and 18X. My family obligations are coming to a close in the next few months and thought I should get back on focus for enlisting in the Army. I tore my ACL in approximately 1995 and had knee surgery 2-3 years ago. It's doing fine now and I feel that I'm in the best shape of my life, though more physical conditioning and improvement is still needed.

I am a corpsman student at BRC and i am currently healing from rhabdomyolysis, i was dropped from my course and my team, and i am dying to get back. I barely had a taste of what SF and SOC types are able to at any given time and place, and i know this is what i want to do with my life. Thank you for your time.

Aloha. My name is Robert, and I'm a seventeen years old. I've found a lot of useful information off of this site, and would like to quickly thank those who created the site; I would also like to give thanks to those who maintain the forums/threads. I plan on taking a path where SF would still be a possible career, five to eight years down the road. This website is extremely insightful, and i hope to gain more knowledge as i read more throughout the threads.

My name is Aaron, I am a 24yr old SSG AGR recruiter in Stillwater, OK. I spent the first four years in the Army in between Hawaii, Iraq, and Afghanistan (2-27 IN Scouts) and joined a Civil Affairs USAR unit so I could begin college. I came on AGR for Recruiting to be on AD while finishing my degree. I have been in recruiting 7 months now and plan to return to AD to attend selection ASAP. My CSM has told me he will push the 4187 to release me to enlist back to AD if I can simply find a solid replacement for myself here in Stillwater. I am taking my wife to the briefing next week so she can get some of her questions answered (I tried to get her to get on this website with me...). I have read alot already in the past two days on the Selection forums about what to expect and what is expected of me. Also purchased and read "Get Selected" by the WM....(thanks!). Looking forward to the first day of the rest of my life....

Did you sign 18x before you turned 30?

Are you currently enlisted?

If not, how did you get past the max age req. of 29?

Hi all,

Long time listener, first time caller. 18C with 20th Group. Joined a bit later in life, 26. Put my gov job on hold for three years while I did the Rep-63 thing and deployed. Just short of the wife and kids, best decision I ever made.

I am a retired Police Officer from the Plano Police Department in Plano, Texas.
I worked as a Patrol Officer, Fraud Detective and was a member of the Bomb Squad. I graduated from the FBI HDS School at the Redstone Army Arsenal. I also attended Advanced Explosive Destruction Techniques and Advanced Explosive Ivestigation Techniques taught by the ATF at Fort AP Hill. I also attended FBI Large Vehicle Bomb Post Blast School and Large Vehicle Bomb Counter Measures School. I was also a Firearms Instructor and DT instructor.

I was in the Navy Reserves for 6 years and was a Gunners Mate. I then transferred to 136th Security Forces Squadron Texas Air National Guard. I was a ramp rat and then attended Combat Arms school and became a Firearms Instructor and Armorer. I then attended AMS and became the Commanding Officer of the Unit. I was activated after 9/11 and served for 2 years on active duty. I retired in 2005.

I currently work for a Private Security Firm as the Explosives Specialist and also as a Firearms and DT instructor.

Hopefully this meets your needs for a proper introduction.

Gentlemen,
A little about myself. I am a 22-year-old college student in ROTC. I will commission in May as an Infantry 2LT, to be stationed at Schofield Barracks in HI. Right now I’m working my way through “Get Selected” and focusing on graduation and my subsequent training to be the best officer I can be. Thank you to all the QP’s for the great information on this site.

My name is Brown and I am currently an active duty soldier, my rank is not important unless there is a need to know, I will gladly disclose. My MOS is 13B, however my unit is working outside the scope of that field doing mostly dismounted, air insertion type missions ( google "Operation Fox Hunt" and you should be able to get a look at me). As of this posting I am on R&R from FOB Warhorse with 4-2ID and I will be attending the SF briefing here at Ft. Lewis before I go back to theatre. This is my second go around in the Army, I was in the 31st ADA at Ft. Hood back in '91. First let me say that I am a Patriot, which is one of the main reasons I came back in the Army. Another reason is that I came back in with my son, who is a 19D on his way to a COP outside of Baghdad. I love the type of work we are doing in country, which is why I want to go to SFAS. We have worked with current and former SF individuals, learning from them as much as possible in order to maximize our efforts and to keep everyone alive. Let me say thanks to all of those that have helped us, and to everyone on this site for your wealth of information. I look forward to learning more as I continue to read and research.

Hello to everyone,

First, I would like to thank all of the administrators of this site for your dedication. To start, I recently qualified for the 18x program and wanted a more in depth look at what I was getting myself into. Now be assured I didn't just look at the job list and decieded ohh SF that looks fun. I did all the research before hand and I know exactly what I signed up for. I signed my contract on 20080318 and shipout 20080416. I will continue to read all that I can untill I leave, and should anyone feel the need to throw some pearls of wisdom my way please feel free.

Thank you for reading,

Served with the 1/75th, then most of the rest of my time was with 10th Group, with a two year stint at Det A Berlin (just before it inactivated), a retirement tour at SOTD-JRTC. Have been a DoD/DoS contractor since then. Presently well into my fifth year in Iraq where I am a mentor and advisor on the general staff of the 10th Iraqi Army Division. Although a native Texan, I retired on the coast in northern Maine where sea kayaking and life in general is very good. Texas and the Gulf Coast are just too darn hot!

Good evening all,

I've haven't been a registered member for very long, but in that time, have gathered a wealth of information and insight. One of the most significant assets this board has offered me is the Get Selected text. It's truly a worthy text for anyone interested in Special Forces. I'm doubly pleased by the fact that its proceeds go to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation for its scholarship program. To anyone reading this, who does not already own a copy, I strongly suggest that you order one as soon as possible. http://www.specialops.org/ (http://www.specialops.org/)

As of today, I am enlisted into the 18x program. I ship on 20080814. Today was a very happy day. For any individuals interested in the 18x program, I offer this advice from my current position.

Get everything in writing before you sign. If you feel you're entitled to something and it's not on your contract be prepared to push hard. It's the career counselors job to enlist you, not to offer you bonuses/rank if they don't have to.
Expect a bonus. Mine is $30,000. I do not know what is typical.
Be completely honest with all the background questions. It's not worth the risk or your integrity to lie/withhold.
Prepare, prepare, prepare. Land navigation, fitness, determination, research, etc.

Thank you ProfessionalSoldiers.com, for providing Special Forces recruits like myself with such abundant information to aid us on our quest. I look forward to my career with Special Forces and further insight from this forum.

Sincerely,

BA

First, I would like to thank the Quiet Professionals for a chance to gain more information into the Special Forces community and way of life.

Now, let me introduce myself. I am currently an Active duty Infantryman. DA has decided to hell with my personnal goals and put me on Drill Sergeant status. I have been in the Army for 8 years, numerous deployments and was looking forward to going to Selection. Now I await for my DS school date to arrive so I may finish my 2 years and get back to the real Army and not TRADOC. Other than that, I have a beautiful family that supports all my decisions, and has since 2001.

Thanks again,

Greetings to all. I just came on board yesterday and my 24 hr reading period is up, so time to do an intro for my first post. I just happened upon this site while doing a Google search about "The Stolen Valor Act". I am an SF veteran, having earned my "S" in 1970. I was assigned to the 8th SFG at Fort Gulick, Canal Zone. Some of you old timers who spent time in the 8th 1n 1970-71 may have remembered the SF cartoons painted on the walls of Co. B's arms room. I'm the guy that painted them. I've been a member in good standing with the Special Forces Association since 1987 and am one of the founding members of SFA Chapter LV in Michigan. De Oppresso Liber!

Hey Brothers,
Came across this site by a google search looking for something else. One of the threads caught my eye referance Georg Scott having passed away, very bad news indeed. We spent some time kicking around in 96th just after it turned over to 18 series guys. Georg was a true Brother and he will be missed.

I grew up in 5th from 80-92 (563 & 564) moved over to 96th 92-95, went to 3rd from 95-99 (364), took a diamond job back in 96th and retired out of there. Worked at the RTL and Wpns as a contractor till 04 then went OCONUS. Should be enough info for anyone that knows me to drop me a line.

Take care...... Hope to renew some links

My name is Jason. I have been in the Army for 18+ years. I initially went into the Army Reserves in my junior year. Went to basic between my junior and senior year of high school. I started off as a logistics specialist, but I wanted to go into Special Forces, so upon my first reenlistment I reclassed to 11B and went to jump school. Was in 3/504 PIR for a few years and went to selection in 1997. Went straight through the Q-course and became an 18D in 1999. Spent 4 years on ODA 173 and then a year on ODB 170. Went to SWCS to be an instructor at the med lab in 2004. I put in a warrant packet the last year I was in SWCS, 2006. Went to the warrant course in the beginning of 2007. I was reassigned to 3rd SFG(A), were I am currently serving. Thanks for allowing me in your team room.

Is there a specific reason as to why thats a rule on these boards?

Yes.

This is an SF board, and is definitely not like some of the other boards you may frequent. We are not here to play Airsoft, HALO, or answer a plethora of stupid questions from people who cannot spell, cannot use proper grammar, cannot yet enlist, and who have extremely long lists of needs without having much, if anything to contribute. You yourself are several years short of being able to try out for SF. We do not take 18 year-olds. Kids also have a tendency to be immature and whiny, viewing every personal issue as one that someone else needs to address for them, without spending the time and energy to try and search or do some reading before the irresistable urge to ask another personal or irrelevant question occurs to them. Those characteristics define a person who is not cut out for SF, and who has little, if any chance of making it in a world of go-getters and self-starters, at least before they grow up a bit and mature. It is the reason you are known as the "Why" Generation. We are looking for a total package of physical, intellectual, and psychological excellence. At your age, it is impossible to tell if you have it yet, or are going to.

In short, we have neither the time, nor the inclination for dealing individually with kids, much less explaining ourselves to all of them who question our rules.

If you think we should, this is probably not the place for you either. Being aware of the rules, and yet choosing to ignore them, is not something we are inclined to tolerate from guests here.

New to the forums, I hope I get this right on the 1st try. I'm thankful and grateful for everything yall do for us, I know yall don't here this alot, but Thank You.

Little about myself, born and raised in Phenix City, Al. Right door to Ft Benning, Ga. So I enjoy learning more about SF. I enjoy reading it and watching it on TV, my only down fall is that I didnt join up after high school. Was hard headed and wanted to move out of the house, and ended up in Texas, then Florida, now back in Alabama. I'm a avid hunter, sports shooter and all out redneck, if you will. I've done the firefighting, ems and police jobs since I was 21. Now I work for the DPS here in Alabama. Im a radio operator, and enjoy what I do.

I found this board after my friend Spartan359 talked about it. I don't want to look like a clown so I will read more than I post.

Thank you for letting me into your world, and Thank YOU for what you do for this country.

Godspeed and Godbless

My name is Chris, I'm prior 11b1p. I was stationed with the 3/505th PIR out of Ft. Bragg from '96-99. After that, I became a Correctional Officer for the state of Arizona and am currently a contractor doing IT stuff at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. (Yes, I know..pretty big jump in career fields.)

I found these forums while doing a search for m4 accessories and as soon as I clicked on my first link yesterday, I knew instantly that this would be a community that I would really enjoy being a part of. I can appreciate the structure that you've got here and it'll be an honor to communicate with such a fine group of professionals.

I look forward to reading all the interesting bits of information on here and hopefully can be a productive member of your great community here. Thank you to all that have served and are still serving today.

All the Way! :)

What a great post!! Tuesday evening General Wagner expounded on SF and experience and that fact that it's Senior Enlisted, Senior Officers, and Senior Warrants who run the show at SF. He said (para-phrase) Regular Army does not have the maturity to do what SF does. The General went on to give reasons for that and he is right but the fact remains SF is SF and Reaper gave an awesome reply on why not everyone can be SF.

T - you rock!

I apologize for overlooking the obvious. I replied to a request for someone’s son and immediately afterwards I realized that I had not posted an introduction first.

I am Steve. I spent 3 years in 3/75, went to the Q course in 87-88, 7th Group 88-95, USAJFKSWCS 95-98, 7th Group again 98-02, USAJFKSWCS 02-06, Back to 7th Group where I retired in 2006.

I am glad to be a part of Professional Soldiers and hope to contribute in any way I am needed.

Thank You,

Hello all,

Sand-Man here, currently enlisted and enjoying what I do, 15U, Chinook Mech./Crew. I'm here to read and learn from lessons told. I apologize to all the QP out there for already overstepping my bounds and posting on the M134 thread before stepping in here to introduce myself.

I appreciate each and every one of you for doing what you do and being at the tip of the spear. I can only begin to understand the intense training you all have undergone to be SF qualified and for those in SFQC, good luck.

I have been through, SERE-C training and have one deployment under my belt.

'Evening. Found this site while Googling in "Gia Vuc," the southern most SF camp in the I Corps Tactical Zone in RVN . A gent who had served in a camp to the west, Mang Buk, had an entry on this general forum that came up on Google.
I served as a small unit adviser in Quang Ngai Prov RVN (where the Gia Vuc camp was located) - did not serve at Gia Vuc, however.

From my profile it's obvious that I spent my entire career on the conventional side of the Army except for two tours in Rangers, one pre and one post activation of Regtl. HQ.
I know some of the younger generation SF and am interested in gaining an appreciation for current issues within the SOF community and SF in particular.

My user ID is my Cowboy Action Shooting alias and also an old Army radio call sign. I tried using "oldrgr" here as a user ID, but it was apparently taken. I use that handle on the various gun forums where I spend a lot of time.

Youngest son is third generation of family to be in harm's way, currently with one of the JSOTFs in the box.

Appears to be some right knowledgeable folks here - looking forward to learning.
Regards.

Good afternoon,
My name is Brian and I am an EMT-B and EDT (Emergency Department Technician). I perform in these roles in a level one Trauma center in Philadelphia. Besides the typical BLS training I have certifications in ACLS, PALS, and various Trauma Life Supports. In my spare time I run with a volunteer combined rescue unit, performing both field EMS and technical rescue duties, including Vehicle Extrication, High Angle Rescue, TEMS, and Water Rescue. I by no means have extensive TEMS experience. Besides your average Domestic Violence call out I have worked only one barricade situation. I passed TEMS I and II through the Hudson County EMS training center, but I want to make it clear I am no SWAT doc.
Enough of who I am, let's get to why I am here. There is nothing for me to contribute here besides discussion regarding medicine. I don't HALO and I only clear rooms of the Leggos left by my two sons. 90% of what we do in the ED and 99% of what we do in the field is based on military methods, and I would love to discuss this shared experience.
To satisfy all of the gear-philes curiosity out there, my trunk contains an ALS stocked STOMP II. I am FAR from a roadside hero (my income will not support that lawsuit), but in NJ's two tier EMS system a paramedic can be more than 20 minutes away, and I have a family to think about. My car features no blue lights, decals, or EMS license plates. After becoming the medical resource for my extended family, college buddies, and most of my block, I have learned to appreciate a bit of anonymity.
Any other questions can be either PMed to me or discussed directly here. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to our future discussions.

Hello to All:

I sure wish I had known about this site earlier!! But better late than never.

I retired from 10th Group on 31 JAN 98 and have been contracting in Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan ever since. I just got a great gig doing an SOF MTT in Hungary for the Hungarian military's SFQC. Pay isn't as good but it is a great job.

This looks like a great site and I am happy to be here.

Hello. My name is Brian. I am a law enforcement officer working in Oregon. I am not currently, nor have I ever been in the military, although I have always been a military enthusiast, a staunch supporter of the military, and have considered joining at different times in my life. It's not yet too late for me to join in certain capacities, I know, and I am giving a lot of thought to a reserve or NG enlistment or even commission. It is likely I will be re-locating to a different part of the Country within the next few months, and I'm looking for a job that will push me to - or better yet past - what I previously believed my limits to be. I have recently had the good fortune of meeting Bill Harsey and getting to know him a little bit, and he recommended I join this website. I am here to learn from each of you, network as appropriate, and I plan to do more listening than speaking.

Greetings, gentlemen.

I was introduced to this site by Mr. Bill Harsey Jr., and I am honored to be allowed to read and post here.

A little about me, short version: I grew up in a small logging community in Oregon. After H.S., fought fires throughout the Western U.S. for 5 years, enlisted in the Army as a 44E (machinist), spent most of my time in Panama with the 128th Avn. shortly after Just Cause.

At ETS, went to Oregon State and eventually graduated with a B.S. in Engineering. Worked my way through school by working in various machine shops. Worked as an engineer for Boeing, Fujitsu Computers and a titanium foundry. Currently working at Gerber Legendary Blades in Portland, Oregon. I've been with Gerber for 10 years, most of them as the Sr. knife design engineer.

My goal here is not to wave the Gerber flag, but rather to learn more about the SF way of life and then apply those learnings to design and build more relevant and useful sharp-edged tools. I would also welcome any knife, knife industry or knife material questions as they come up and will answer them fairly and to the best of my ability.

Best regards,
Jeff Freeman

My name is Robert. I was a Navy Electronics Warfare Technician in the early 80s, and was stationed on Corry Field (the base now has a MUCH cooler name, The Center for Information Dominance).

I sincerely desired to go SEAL/UDT, but my nearsightedness prevented me from attaining that goal, and I can completely understand why...after being in some situations that made me understand quickly why glasses can be a huge disadvantage.

I currently work as a Private Investigator and am beginning to do Executive Protection and TSCM work.

I will be primarily reading, unless I have something cogent to contribute to a thread.

Thank you to all of you who have been of service.

Hello,

My name is Stephen and I am currently a Junior in high school in Newtown, Pennsylvania. I am a U.S. citizen as well as a U.K. citizen. In my short lifespan, I have moved around the east coast a few times. I've lived in Florida, Maryland, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and London, England. I lived in England for a year, and while I was there I traveled to Spain, Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Austria, and France. I also recently visited China with my school, staying in both Beijing and Shanghai. I love traveling and exploring new places. When I have spare time, I teach myself Mandarin and practice French. I enjoy almost every sport, but my passion remains with Cross Country. I will be running my third year in the fall of 2008 as a team captain, working to break my 5k personal best time of 16:42 by at least a minute. I have also run track each year, focusing on the mile and two mile events. I am active in school clubs, including Political Science, Ski Club, and Future Business Leaders of America. I have been in the school band each year, including marching band as a Freshman. Outside of school, I maintain two part time jobs during the year, one as a lifeguard, and one as a "receptionist." During the summer, I volunteer for a local camp for underprivileged children called Camp Discovery, and go on mission trips with a local church if the timing works out. As for future plans, I hope to go to college and major in international affairs or modern languages. I plan to join the U.S. Army after college, with the intention of someday making my way to the foot of the great challenge you talented men have conquered.

Jeff,
Great to see you here and Welcome!

For all the rest, Jeff is very good at what he does and I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for all the help he has given the late Col. Rex Applegate and myself in supplying a lot of knives to those who need them. I'm honored to be able to continue to work with him.
We would all benefit from your help in the Edged Weapon area here, jump on in. Please be sure to check out the "Redneck Engineering" thread too.

Hello everyone, my name is Blake Miles. I'm currently assigned to ODA2011 (or whatever the hell the new designation is; I'd be lying if I said I ever cared enough to learn how the new team names are assigned). I spent 3 years over at lovely 1st Group with ODA191 and had one trip to Samarra, Iraq. I'm currently working some shit warehouse job in northern Illinois while my wife is going to school for her doctorates in Psychology.

I damn near shed a tear when I found this site, because I miss hanging out in the team room, bullshitting and throwing a few beers back. Looking forward to conversing with you all! This'll be a pleasant change from talking to the typical d-bags that populate nearly all message boards on the internet!

Greetings everyone,

As required I would like to introduce myself. My name is Raul, a twenty-four year old American currently living in the United Kingdom with my wife (who is British) and our daughter. I’ve been living in England since 2005, however, I have recently begun to train both body and mind for enlisting under the 18X program in about two years time.

I can’t even begin to explain how much of a resource this website has been in formulating a training plan. The Reaper’s thread entitled: “Rucking Advice”, along with NousDefionsDoc’s thread entitled: “Training the Mind” have been extremely valuable in helping me.

I also recently purchased “Get Selected for Special Forces,” so this website combined with the book, well, I can honestly say that I am starting to enjoy going out rucking with my ALICE on my back, and giving 110% during my workouts and runs. I have also begun to incorporate land navigation, I have been learning as much as possible from the Army Land Navigation FM.

I've been enjoying my training so much that I have even been able to convince my wife to go out camping in July to the Peak District here in England, and she is going to start doing some training with me - it is great to have that kind of support from my wife.

So although this is an introduction thread, I have to say a huge thank you to all the BTDT/QP who participate and contribute all their knowledge and experience, taking the time out of your schedules to help us wannabes who come onto this forum. It is appreciated immensely.

I hope you all have a great day and once again, thank you all.

Regards,

Raul

Since I joined the Army, I have wanted to make a difference. My first unit was a reserve engineer unit out of North Carolina. Each weekend, I would come home without the feeling that I had accomplished anything. I have been giving special forces thought for the past few months and have been picking brains here and there. I am currently mobilized with an aviation unit. My primary MOS 15T which is a Blackhawk Mechanic. We are going to be gone for the next year, which will give me time to prepare both my physical and mental state. Which brings us to this website. I have been reading over it for the past couple days. I have used the search feature and therefore have no questions as of yet. I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself so that I can ask questions when they come up and/or offer up any opinions that I have.
So, hopefully this will serve well enough for an introduction. I doubt there are any questions of me, but I woudl be happy to answer any that ensue.

I ran across a link to PS from the SOCNET site.

Everything below is frank and factual, intended to give you a glimpse of who I am.

As my profile implies, I'm addicted to languages. I am a fan of cultural immersion. I have traveled internationally and plan on continuing to do so as much as I can aside from military commitments.

I will be in the military (most likely Navy) either on a scholarship as a "college boy" or as enlisted by the end of the year. I would consider an option 40 contract with the Army as a stepping stone to SF, but I am still praying/studying about my options. I will serve even if I am not in a SOF unit. My goal is to be put to the best use our country can find for me.

I am an amateur radio operator and have been for years (it's almost time to renew). I make a hobby out of OSINT collection.I am committed to serving as AD and I am addicted to PT. I prefer swimming/underwater drills (nothing stupid) to any other form of PT, but I am only a novice crawlstroker. I am fairly efficient with the CSS, surpassing minimums for the SEAL Challenge Contract with the Navy by a minute or two. I love anything that uses combustibles.

I currently score in the neighborhood of 250-270 on the AFQT. I ruck at about a 16 mile pace with 60 lbs (using a MOLLE pack). I use a combination of PT regimens from the Army, Navy, and Marine corps. I am currently out of shape in my running due to failure to comply with my plan, but that is actively being rectified. I am also sick and tired of flight deck combat boots (Bates 21500s are excellent boots for everything but running)!

I expect to be a primarily read-only user, and thank all the BTDTs for the wisdom they share!

My name is Britt. I am about to graduate from high school. I plan to attend two years of college, and in that time prepare myself physically and mentally for what I hope to achieve, a Green Beret. I thank each and every one of our soldiers, past and present for their devotion and sacrifices. I had wanted to be a Navy SEAL from the age of 7 or 8. As I have grown a little older I have changed my career path but, I have stayed with the dream of serving my country in a unique and challenging way. I love the French language, and I love food ( I am not "big", in fact I am very slender). Once again, I know that most of you reading this are members of the Special Forces so I would like to thank you again for your service.

Hello, I'm a civilian with no background in the service. I do enjoy many aspects of guns and shooting, and have found that sometimes my quest for better quality information (from experienced shooters) than is available on the various Internet gun forums, has brought me here. My main interest in joining is to listen in, and perhaps participate occasionally, in discussions about the types of weapons and ammunition I use, which are also used in the service.

My sincere thanks to all those who serve; you are the best among us, and my family and I deeply appreciate what you do and what you sacrifice. God bless!

Introduce yourself with your first post.
De Oppresso Liber

Hi,,

Very far away and long ago I was drafted into Uncle Sam's Army (March, 1968),, during basic at Ft Jackson, SC, I was offered the opportunity to go to either the rotor-wing school or OCS or possible both,, I elected OCS, job paid better.. The 1st weekend we had off,, watch a new John Wayne movie,, The Green Berets,, talk about sci-ops...

So, I'm off to Artillery OCS,, Ft Sill, Ok,, unfortunately after FDC,13E20, I was told that they didn't need more canon fodder,, but they had an opening in the Infantry School,, back East to Ft Benning I go..

Our platoon OIC was 1st Lt "Black Jack" Dawson, fresh back from Nam, The class was composed of 70% new draftees and enlisted,, with 30% prior service NCO's. We graduated about 60%,, The guy in the next cube had just returned from his 3rd tour,, Special Forces,, E7,, leaned to the left because of his salad,, We called him Haus(house), Larry sat me down one day and gave me the ultimate pitch...

"You are going straight to Vietnam,,, do you want to go with 40 draftees who may not want to be there or 11 professionals,, go SF"

Thank you Larry,,

Someone here may know Larry,, I believe he retired as an O6 in the late 80t's early 90t's??

I graduated OCS in March 69, immediately followed by jump school,, with an assignment to Co C, 3 Bn, 6th Gp SF, Ft Brag.

I was given the S4 opening,, for those that don't know,, at that time the S4 was responsible for support of the Gabriel Demonstration Area on Smoke Bomb Hill,, Disneyland.. A couple stories..

That summer I managed to complete the IMA Underwater Operations Course in Key West and the IMA SF Course, and earned my flash in September..

By December I had orders for Nam, upon arrival I was assigned to the Co D, 2/7th, 1 Bg, 1st Air Cav Div..

On May 5th, my platoon was one of the 1st to enter Cambodia,, on May 10th I lost a hand grenade tossing contest,, with a NVA fellow hiding in a bunker.. I spent the next three months in the loving hands of Uncle Sam's Hospital system,, Mostly at Camp Zama, Japan.

I returned to Nam in August, was assigned 1st Cav, XO of Div Hq Co Forward, completed my tour as a semi-REMF..

Upon separation in January 1971, I returned to my home town, Boca Raton, Florida, and soon afterwards found a slot in Co C, 3rd Bn, 20th Gp SF ABN, FNG, Ft Lauderdale. I served there for the next 5+ years and re-qualified for my Flash. I had a bad jump and was told I had to switch to a leg transportation unit,, or resign my commission..

I left 20th Gp SF in January 1976.. A most unhappy person..

I'm now a retired ISP Designer/Developer. Wife & I live on an island,, 150 miles SW of Miami & 90 miles N of Havana.

Thanks for the oppertunity..

Gentlemen:

I would like to thank all of you for your service to our country. I would also like to thank you for sharing your time and knowledge and contributing to this excellent resource of information. I am interested in serving my country (just turned 38 yrs old - but hey, better late than never) and am presently considering the 18x opportunity. I am a college graduate with a BA in International Studies, lived in Austria for a short time, speak German and basic Mandarin, very interested in foreign policy, and work in NYC in the construction industry as an operating engineer / cranes and other heavy equipment operator. Some of my hobbies are martial arts (I am an instructor in Wing Chun Kung-Fu), hockey, running, and hiking. Thank you.

Gentlemen,
I am 35 yr old civilian and I'm researching all I can about the SF way of life. I am an attorney by day and live in Wyoming. I am interested in the SF guard units in CO (I understand Wyoming Guard has no SF unit?). This forum has already been a big help. I find most of my questions answered already in prior postings. Thank you for sharing and thank you all for your service. I'm here to learn.

Welcome Guys...

Mangoose:

WOW what a name!!

You may want to look at other options given your age; the cutoff age for the 18X program is 30. If you havent already, you may want to search the forums for topics on age and SF. There is a multitude of threads here on such topics. Not trying to dissuade you from your aspirations and dreams, just widening your field of view

I'm a 25 y/old SF hopeful currently stationed in Yongsan. I'm hoping to work on my Korean while I'm here as well as prep for SFAS.
I decided to check out this site after reading Selected in order to educate myself further about what I can do to become a more competent, mature, informed soldier regardless of if my career takes me SF, which I'll do my best to get there, or elsewhere in the Army.

I have a friend I graduated HS with that is a SF soldier and have taken interest in SFG. I am probably too old to attempt to become SF since I am 39. But I am honored to be in the presence of such professionalism. Semper Fi!!!

It is an honor to be a guest on your forum. I am a Kiowa Warrior pilot. I was recently selected to attend SFAS with the rest of my YG05 brothren. I will be attending SFAS 08-007. I currently live in Northern New York State and serve with 6-6 CAV. I have an M.A. in History and am particularly interested in Central/South America. I have always been interested in the misguided teachings of Che and the hippies who have no idea why they wear shirts with his image. Thank you for allowing me in your house, I hope soon it will be mine as well.

Hello Everybody-

This may be long, I apologize, but the best information is complete information. Who knows how long until I post in another forum - that 'search' button is a beautiful thing.

Thank you to all of those who have served, continue to serve, and are thinking of serving. My name is Morgan P. and I am a second-year student (credits wise, Junior) at American University in Washington DC but originally from Los Angeles. I am contemplating a career in public service whether that be for the military or other government organizations. I am considering the 18x option after I graduate as I feel my experience studying abroad for three semesters will provide valuable experience in a field that can most benefit fellow SF soldiers in addition to my country. My other option would be OCS where I might either be interested in PsyOps, MI, or Ranger School, then SF; I have not pressed that 'search' button enough times to figure it out.

I would say I enjoy long walks on the beach, but then that would make me want to be a SEAL, right? ;) If I would have to describe myself I would say that I posses many of the qualities that I have read and learned about as it relates to a Special Forces soldier. I, however, will never compare myself to one as I have yet to earn that privilege.

Again, thank you to those Quiet Professionals as well as all of our other service members who have risked everything so that I can sit here typing about myself... in English.

Best

Howdy all,

I registered over a year ago but I don't think I ever made an intro or posted anything. I was drawn back to this site over news of a death of an associate of mine (Logan Coffey) and figured I should finally say 'hello'.

I am in the NG and a non-tabbed member of ODB-9110 & Life member of SFA Chapter 16 (A3630). I'm an old Marine who went Army (Civil Affairs) and made the jump to A/1/19th back in Feb 2005.

Been to a lot of places, need to go to more. Seen a lot, but haven't seen enough.

Thanks for having me here.

Hello, I am an active duty Sergeant serving with the 728th MP BN out of Hawaii (formerly out of ROK). I will attend SFAS as soon as my unit returns from Iraq. I am married and have three little girls 8, 5, and 6 months, all four girls I absolutely adore. I love shooting and all things firearms related, I have dabbled in knife making (heat treating escaped me, but I have researched more and will try again.), and I am a gym rat. I look forward to learning from the collective years of experience on this site. Thank You.

Hello all,
I am an 18F waiting to see what happens on this years 8 list. I have 17 1/2 years in the Army 12 years of team time with a five year break in service that helps explains my rank. I had ETS'd in 1997 only to return after 9/11.
I found this site while searching for information on a good friend of mine Jason Brown from 5th Group who just passed away while hunting and eliminating the scum of Al-Qaeda. I won't post much unless there is something of first hand knowledge that I can pass along. (I know how some people get with the I heards and I had a friend who said stories.)
Anyway my bio is:
4 years 504th PIR 82nd ABN
12 Years 5th SFG(A)
the last year and a half at SWCS.
Feel free to hit me up with anything I can help with and I will be doing the same. You guys have a great looking site and I can't wait to explore it more when time permits.

Never too big to admit a mistake. My first post ended up a response in another thread, without a first posting here. I am now correcting that error.

After IOBC and Ranger School, an initial infantry assignment at Ft. Lewis with 2/1st Inf., 9th ID, and a trip through Huachuca for intel training, went through Q course to 2/10th with deployments to Denmark, Europe and Middle East. From 10th to 11th, serving with A Co., 1/11th at Devens and then as an IRR to SF Command at Bragg.

My first platoon sergeant at Lewis: Then SSG, later CSM Mike McIntyre (5th Group CSM in 2001). My fellow rifle platoon leader in C Co., 2/1, then 2LT, later COL Pete Dillon (former 7th Group Commander). One of the most stand out PFCs in the company...then PFC, now CSM, Marvin Hill, CSM to Gen. Petraeus.

Been an attorney in NH since 87 and now running for Congress, which you can note under the At Ease/Soapbox thread.

Error corrected. one for the airborne, one for the Rangers and one for Special Forces.

Hello all!!!

First of all; wow, what an awesome forum. It's great to see a bunch of SF guys all in one spot so I can gather a bunch of intel on the course!!!

A little history on myself-
I joined in 1999 and served a total over just over four years on active duty.
My MOS was 13F, which I thoroughly recommend to all prospect hooahs.
I served in 2/17 FA in Korea (the most horrible experience of my life) and C co 2/75 Ranger. That was a hoot...lol
I've been lucky enough to attend ABN, RIP, RGR, RSLC, USMC Naval Gunfire course, and a bunch of other cool stuff. I left active duty in December of 2003 with intentions of college and serving in my home state's (Colorado) National Guard. Well, I wanted to kind of take it easy while in school, so I opted to be a UH-60 Crew Chief...kinda nice to be the one that isn't getting off of the bird with a ruck and a 10k movement ahead of yah...LOL
That was a great experience (aviation). Too bad it wasn't great enough.
Since I had time in SOF with 2/75, and have seen what SF was doing over in Iraq, I felt the hairs on the back of my neck raise up once again when I found out (previously unknown to me) that Colorado had a battalion of SF (5/19) in-state. School is/was/still in school a priority to me, but my everyday life as a college pogue lacked the high-intensity element that I used to be a part of at 2/75.
Well, I have tons of experience with Fire Support (AH6, Spectre, CAS, etc, etc, etc you've all seen that) so I opted for 18E.
I attended SFAS in June of '07 and thankfully became selected. After two more semesters of college after returning from SFAS, I am slated to attend the SFQC for 18E with Russian starting June of this year ('08).
So...
I'm 26, 3 more semesters of school till graduation (Environmental Sci), attending the Q in June.
Thanks to you Team Guys for an awesome resource and the great insight into the SF way of life.

My name is Kevin, I'm currently a civilian researching the Special Forces program in general and also to find out whether medically SF would be an option for me. After graduating college, I persued becoming a Navy SEAL. At Mep's, to my surprise, I failed the color vision exam, even though it has never been an issue in my 26 years. I then visited a color vision specialist based in Maryland, and passed his version of the FALANT test. These results were faxed to my SEAL mentor and to make a long story short, I obtained a waiver for my color vision and obtained a SEAL contract. At boot camp my waiver was recognized all the way through the primary physical and the Dive physical. After recieving a "real life" color vision test by the Medical Officer, I was declared fit for full dive duty. I then recieved my orders for BUD/s but with two days to go before boot camp graduation, my orders were pulled and told to reclassify. I was told it was a mistake. The Captain at BUMED that ordered and cancelled the waiver, told me that Special Forces in the Army is an option available for me. When I recently visited the recruiter, he told me it may be, but it would be very risky because I would be unable to obtain an 18x contract. I came here for any assistance in the matter and appreciate any help in advance.

This is addressed in the stickies and in several threads. You need to use the search button and read through them. There is a color vision test and requirement for a reason.

Best of luck.

Hello everyone,
I am currently a junior in high school and am coming to the point where i must make a decision about my future. I come from a fairly well-off family and live in a community that expects its high school graduates to attend four-year universities. However, in my college search, I have yet to find a university that appeals to my desires. Unlike most of my peers, $50,000 a semester tuition fails to spark my interest. I do not wish to force my parents to pay a large amount of their hard-earned money to pay for my dissatisfaction with the College lifestyle
While i struggle finding an interesting University, I have always had an extreme interest in the Special Forces lifestyle. However, due to my situation, it is difficult to get advice on how to approach becoming a member of the community. So i guess I am here to ask for advice on how to go about the process, when to commit, etc.
I should also mention that i have worn corrective lenses since I was young, however it has not hindered my ability to participate in sports or shoot skeet, trap and sporting clays

Thank you,
Kyle

Good morning!

After a delay of a few days since joining this excellent site, I'd like to formally introduce myself. I ceased my Army activities in '83 when I left the USAR after 13 years of active and reserve duty. Completed SFAIC 3-71 as an 11C4S and was assigned to 8th SFG at Ft Gulick, CZ (worked as AI at JOTC) where I served until shortly after its deactivation at which time I was reassigned to Co A (Abn), 3/5 Inf, 193rd Inf Bde at Ft. Kobbe. Served in USAR units in Phoenix, AZ area - 12th SFG detachment and 297 MID (SAF), where I picked up a 97B MOS. Currently a high school social studies teacher and part-time scuba instructor. (I know, I know - where the hell do you dive in Phoenix, AZ?)
Pardon the length - teachers never know when to shut up. Thanks to all the Quiet Professionals - past and present.

Hey ya'll. I'm originally from Arkansas, but stationed in Georgia. My status is AD/AF as a Security Forces member, but wanting more. I have been to Airborne at Benning and still an active jumper in my unit. I have always had an interest for SF. While attending Airborne I made some good friends on their way to SFQC. That just sparked my fire to pursue this dream. I talked with a guy from 3rd group a couple of weeks ago under unfortunate circumstances, but we were able to have a good conversation and he had some stellar advice. I'm here to build upon what he has told me to help prepare for SFAS/SFQC...granted the AF will allow me to transfer services. Thanks for the opportunity for me to read up on this site and ask questions that cannot be answered anywhere else. Ya'll have a good one.

Hey guys,
To start, im originally from jersey. I was born in NYC, but spent 11 of 18 years at home in NJ. Ive been in the air force for 5 years as security forces. The last 3 years have been in georgia. I graduated from jump school in august of 07'. I have only 2 jumps since benning, deployments seem to get in the way of that... I have been left with a feeling of wanting more since my last 2 deployments. The carrot always seemed to be there, but just out of reach. Im torn b/w usaf cct and army sf. Im still getting myself ready for whatever path i head down, and im just looking for some good advice. Thanks for letting me into quiet professionals, i know i can learn a lot here.

Whats up guys, joined this site to get more info on how to fit into the teams once AF guys get there, and to maximize our leathality once were there. Been stationed at bragg, italy, now in LA. Have been in the military as an tacp for almost 8 years. Have only been on this site for a couple days and already have found out alot of my q's, and is one of the best forums ive heard about. I dont like even being on forums, thought it was sort of nerdy, but the info ive recieved since ive been on here was great. So if you guys can shoot me some things that would benefit us and yourselves, plz do so. My reason for doing this, ALOT of JTACS (around 60 a year) from all services come here and train, and myself with a couple other people train them. Sorry for the personality issues when we get there, cant tell a young stud anything.

Left the service in '81 and then went back to university in '83 for a degree in veterinary medicine, then a PhD in immunology. I currently am at a small biotech company in Denmark working on immune therapies for cancer. Regards to any former comrades.

So after this post you all probably won't hear much from me again. So a little about myself, I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps and I have two tours in Iraq under my belt. I recently got out of the Marine Corps a year ago and decided to join the PA Army National Guard. I have another tour in Iraq coming up next year and I hope to one day go to SFAS and see if I have what it takes. Thats just a little about myself. Thanks again.

Thank you for allowing me to join this esteemed company of professionals.

I'm a retired law enforcement officer who is now teaching Criminal Justice at a small Texas High School. While on active duty from 81 to 86 I was a 13R Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator. I stayed in the Reserve Army until 1999 and got activated for Desert Storm in 91. Because I was an instructor, I stayed at Ft Sill OK the whole time and never deployed to SW Asia.

During my Reserve time, I was assigned to JTF-6 at Bliss and worked in a DEA office as an intelligence analyst. This was the same job that I did for the sheriff's office in civilian life, so no great leap. I worked with several Federal Drug Task Forces that utilized SF assets for surveillance purposes on the SW Border area.

I will post very little probably but will read a lot.

First off, I would like to thank those quiet professionals who have provided such a wealth of information for me on my quest to join your ranks. So heres a little about me. I spent the past year in the 68K (med lab technician) in fort lewis and sam houston. It was during my training that I found I wanted more out of the army. Being on upper level team sports my whole life, I found the regular army just didnt foster the same level of comradery. It was during my stay in Ft.Lewis that I met my inspiration. My mother is a folk singer who happened to know a fellow entertainer named (Col) Hank Cramer. A former 1st grouper and team CO, he spoke of a different army. After a long chat with him about the riggors and wonders of the field, I couldnt get my mind off it. Its thanks to him that I really have made the desicion to pursue SF. So here I am today. I took the first step this week and called the NG recruiter here in Boston. Through him, I was set up with an appointment at the 1/20th C co in Springfield MA. I have prepared my body and mind my whole life for this, let the journey begin. APFT 120p/u 100S/U 2mi 11:30min GT132

Quiet Professional's,

My name is David and I am a 17 year old high school senior. I enlisted in the Army last October with an 11x/Option40 contract (Infantry Recruit/Airborne Ranger) and ship to Ft Benning for OSUT June 4th. Although I will not be serving in Special Forces, I believe it's beneficial for me to learn as much as I can about their heritage, history, and training.

Thank you for the opportunity to learn.

My name is Ryan, I'm 28, and originally from Lakeland, FL. My wife and I are currently living near Fort Gordon, GA. She is an active duty Army Psychologist in the Medical Service Corps. I served in the Marine Corps from 98-03, first as an aircraft mechanic and then moved on to embassy security. In that job I went to Karachi, Pakistan and Santiago, Chile.

After getting out of the Marines my plan was to go to a police academy and gain employment with a local dept. I changed my mind after going to the orientation. After a year of trying to figure out what I wanted to do I decided to take job with DynCorp in Iraq doing personal protection for the State Dept. I did that for a little more than a year. I enjoyed the work and the guys I worked with. There were many former Rangers and SF guys on my team and they were the go to guys for tactical questions. I came back to the states for good in mid 2006 and decided to attend a police academy in FL. I finished that and began the application phase when my wife found out that Army had accepted her and we'd be moving to GA.

Since I've been here I've been knocking out my college classes and recently took a security job on base that extends my TS/SCI for five more years. I've got 88 credits right now.

My wife recently visited the SF school to see if her and the other psychologists from Ft. Gordon and Walter Reed would be interested in applying to be a SF/SERE psychologist. She wasn't interested when she left but once she got there and saw the atmosphere she changed her mind. She got to go through half of the Nasty Nick and the HALO wind tunnel. She submitted a packet and hopes to hear something in the next month.

So that is why I'm on this site. To find out more information on SF for her and possibly myself. I haven't mentioned to her that her trip has sparked an interest for me, yet. ;)

My name is Rick and I am located in South East Florida. I have been a consultant and SME to a number of SOF units over the last 15 years in a small range of mission related support and individual skill sets. I am a former LEO and am active in the shooting community in a number of venues and am active in IDPA locally. Been in 'the biz' over 35 years in about as many countries. Most of my T shirts are rags now. I have tremendous respect for the work and accomplishments from this community and maintain many old friendships as well as current. Been a long time lurker here and finally decided to join. I've been a supporter of the Wounded Warrior program through the Warrior Foundation and similar scholarship programs. Thank you for your quiet work.

I'm a 22-year old college student. Making special forces is a dream I've worked towards since I was a kid. I've taught myself land navigation, how to run and hump long distances, and learned two languages since I was in high school, all in anticipation of wearing the green beret one day.

I'm here to learn as much as I can from the veterans. I've already read a lot of literature on Special Forces and will continue to update myself. I'm hoping that the veterans on this board can help me fill in some of the gaps in my understanding.

Hi everyone,

I'm 24, born in the Netherlands, enrolled in an interdisciplinary PhD Economics program in the USA, entering my 3rd year. My focus has been on trying to understand what circumstances have made the West emerge as the most prosperous area in the world. Besides this, I am honored to have been accepted to the Strategic Studies program at Johns Hopkins, SAIS, where for the next two years I will be studying the complex array of forces that surround military affairs, as I also continue to work towards my PhD thesis. I like to write and read about culture, conflict and cooperation; trying to find out how peaceful and prosperous societies can emerge. Inevitably this leads one to study the mind-set and history of different peoples, contrasting and comparing them with the West and studying cultural interaction and change.

I believe the US Constitution and the rights of the individual it protects are the ultimate expression of Western values, and the US military, its shield, deserves the strongest support.

The Special Forces seem to me one of the most excellent parts of the military (along with Foreign Area Officers). Culturally aware, intelligent, tough and willing to defend the ideals of the US constitution; everything I aspire to. Perhaps some day in the future. For now, I am here to learn.

Respectfully,

RRE

Hello Gentlemen,
My name is John (seems to be allot of johns here) I'd be just one more. I found this site while tooling around on my new Toshiba, thinking I've got 15 billion channels of crap to look at but, there you were. Thanks, I feel better now.
I'm presently in my 29th year of service and my 23rd of active duty years, of which just about 20 belong to our beloved Regiment. I was up in the SWCS G-3, hating life and bidding my time when CSM Lugo said “Hey, you wanna go to Iraq?” This served both our agendas nicely and I thank him for that.
SO, I'm in beautiful, sunny Iraq working for USASOC but I pretty much sleep through the heat of the day and that’s OK by me. The fun around here is at night anyways. This will be the last soirée for this old broke fool but thank god I was able to spend it here among the boys, the best sons-of-biscuit eaters this side of hell and the closest thing to my heart since the first…& third wives. (are you in tears yet?)

Guess I’ll have to grow up someday but, not yet. Until then….cheers…..jd

My name is Tim, and I'm currently an E-4 in the USAR. I spent 9 months in Iraq in 2005/6 with the 220th TC as an 88M. I've been in uniform since I was 17 (22 now) and had grand plans to be an army aviator or, failing that, SF... unfortunately the army had other plans. I've had the honor of brief encounters with different members of the SF community a few times, and it's always something I enjoy. I've been trained by you guys a couple of times heading to the box and while I was there, and shared brief conversations whenever I could upon crossing ya'lls paths... I am always pleased to have got the chance.

I'm here because I didn't get to do everything I wanted to in the army, and life has changed for me now. So I like to learn, watch, listen and live vicariously through you guys. I guess you can say I'm an enthusiast of the tactical mindset.

I don't know if I personally ever had what it took to become one of you guys. I know statistically, probably not. But, to you QP's out there... I want to say I am honored to wear the same uniform as you guys. Each one of your lives is worth 100 of mine. Stay safe when going into harms way gentlemen... our world needs guys like you too much.

Take care all.

Each one of your lives is worth 100 of mine.

That's simply not true at all. We all have our place and responsibility, and all of them are needed to get the job done. Please re-examine your low self-worth a little more critically and understand your own valuable contributions.
