Guess my first attempted took too long, since I seem to have been thrown off the site.
My father is an SF Vietnam Vet and a Professional Soldier (even tho' retired). We lost mom recently and it has been a little hard. I'm looking for (clean-ish) jokes, chess players (I'm really not that good) and great discussions to share with dad. He is always looking for someone to play chess with, and as I said - I'm not that good.
I'm considered the liberal in the family (so I guess that makes me the black sheep), but I'm more Libertarian in my values than liberal. I don't believe in gun control, I do believe in less government & I do believe in taking care of our troops (both past & present).
I'm not looking for trouble, I'm not looking to disrespect or be disrespected.
Oh, and by the way, my name is Robin.
Hello everyone,
My name is Thomas and I am 23. I'd like to thank those who serve or have served our county, and a special thanks to those who served in a combat role.
I am scheduled on 2 January to phys and swear in on an 18x contract. I know its kind of a late start but I have never been more prepared physically or mentally. Although I have read Get Selected! twice and have spent countless hours reading and researching as much as possible, I am still trying to learn as much as I can. So, thank you to the founders of this site and to all contributors for sharing you knowledge.
Greetings all!
My name is Mike. I am 23 and a current student-athlete. I have never been able to get away from the desire to serve and have been revisiting the idea for some time. Now that I'm a little older and see the world and where I want my future to go differently, I am strongly considering enlisting via the 18x option. In high school, our Vice Principal was former SF, and being the immature highschoolers we were, I don't think any of us understood or appreciated the character and integrity he was trying to build into every one of us. Now that I can fully appreciate it, I can attribute a lot of my desire to take this journey to that man. With that, I am here to absorb as much of your insights as possible to help as I prepare myself to enter the pipeline. The professionalism I have found here, reading what and how you QP's post is remarkable and inspiring to me.
Thanks all for your service, time and dedication.
Mike

Hey guys
My name is Josh and I am 23. I Joined in Late 09 and went the RIP route. Enjoyed regiment for a couple of deployments to AFG, ran into some issues with a new PSG, and I decided it was no longer home for me. Progressing my way through the course as of now. Almost done.

I am an active duty Sergeant currently stationed at Ft. Carson. I will be attending SFAS in the coming fall. I chose Carson for my duty station so I could train for SFAS in a high altitude and push myself. I am tired of dealing with soldiers who have no desire or want to be in the military. I am ready to work with and for professionals who have a true desire to be a part of something great. I have one deployment to Iraq and one to Afghan, I look forward to more in the future. I am a father and husband, I spend my free time shooting, reloading, working on my tj crawler and learning how to survive on my own. I have two eyes, two ears and one mouth, I spend my time listening and watching. I will have my chance to talk when I'm old and I have learned something worth sharing.

Hello all,
My name is Andrew, I'm an active duty 68A stationed at Fort Sam Houston. I'm currently in Afghanistan, but plan on attending SFAS in the spring or summer of 2013. I've been researching/reading on the site for almost a year now, and I'd like to thank all the QP's (and others) for the vast amount of info I've found on here, I'm confident it'll pay dividends once I enter the pipeline.
Hello everyone. I am 22 years old and signed my 18X contract a few days ago.
This is an ambition I have held onto for many years and have patiently waited until I was mature and experienced enough to take on. I have been reading this forum for the last 6 months as I navigated the enlistment process and, now that my contract is signed, decided to register.
I will be shipping out in April and entering SOPC in September. In the meantime I will continue reading and learning from this site and other sources. Thank you to all the QPs for the valuable information and insight available here.

Hello QP's and guests
I have recently graduated from college with a double major in Marketing and Criminal Justice. It is my dream and calling to attend SFAS and hopefully join the Special Forces.
I thank all of the QP's for founding and maintaining this site. It is a great resource for anyone seriously interested in joining the SF.

Hello Gents,
I'm here to find out more about support roles that 35 series guys play within the SPECOPs world. I have intelligence experience at the G2, J2, and INSCOM level but I am considering going to Group, Ranger, or JSOC type units within the next two years.
I do most of my research via e-mail over the SIPR or talking to folks that have been at these units. I don't expect to receive too much information over this unclassified forum but it's still nice to be able to look around and ask questions.

I want to start off by saying thank you to professionalsoldiers.com because this site is very helpful. Also, thank you to the qp's and admins that volunteer their time and assist us new guys.
I head to Ft. Benning in April to begin my career in the Army and was blessed to receive an 18 x-ray contract. Lord willing I remain healthy and have the right stuff. If anyone else here will be in Benning then shoot me a message, I would love to get to know my new family.
Thank you to the admins and qp's again.
God Bless.

Reposting a lost introduction.
I graduated the Q as an 18E 05JUN87. I served in 2nd Bn 12th SFG with four years on an ODA. The training I received has been invaluable in my civilian career and I am profoundly grateful to the professionals that trained me and those that I served with. Great times! Making a plan, showing up with the right equipment and never giving up can get a man far in this life.
Thank you for this forum; the viewpoints presented in the discussions are interesting.

Hello QP's and guests,
my name is Aaron, I hail from Ohio. I am a high school graduate, ex- ROTC Team Sgt. and marksmanship team leader. I'm known to be a gun-bunny and weapons enthusiast. During my final year of high school I spent numerous consecutive months mapping out what I want to do in terms of a career, where I was pulled from within to becoming a SF Weapons Sergeant out of all of the military careers that were brought to the table. In time I was lead here, I am infinitely honored to be guest in the house of all who are here. I'll treat my stay here as a briefing - learn from the vast knowledge, stories, and experiences presented here, then follow SOP by refraining to talk out of turn. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Years!

Typically we (QP's and Mods/Admins) reserve the use of 18_ or SF user names for SF qualified personnel. You'll probably be asked to change your user name.
Good luck in your path to becoming a SF soldier.

If you have looked around this site, you should know that we are sensitive to people taking liberties with SF titles. Kind of like we feel about posers.
Unless you have actually been awarded the 18B MOS by SWCS already, you need to pick a new user name.
Or we will.

Greetings to the membership,
I am a civilian father of two young children. I was directed here by a friend as a resource for DIY and self-sufficiency items. I have found this site invaluable in the basic responsibilities I have to look after my family, as well as a place to continue to learn about being more self reliant with things around my home.
Thanks in advance to PS for sharing their vast knowledge with the rest of us,

Hello, my name's Patrick. I'm a 13M SGT, currently stationed on CP Casey, South Korea. I've been in the Army for about four and a half years and I'm looking to join the Special Forces. Right now I'm not sure when I'll be attending selection, but a friend told me about this forum so I figured I'd come here and learn more about what I'm getting into.
Good morning,
My name is Mark, originally from North Carolina but I currently reside in New Jersey with my wife and daughter. I have been an avid reader on this website for about 2 years now and finally decided to become a member. There is a wealth of information on this website that will better prepare me for my future endeavors. And thanks to all who have served and are still serving.

I'm a Vet with 12yrs Army time. We will just leave it at that. :D
Happy New Year's!!
I am a new member here, and I would like to introduce myself as a true fan and admirer to our military, especially the Army Special Forces.
I am a electrical engineering student in college, and would like to serve in our Military after college. I have always wanted to serve since I was a little boy, and have prepared myself physically and mentally.
Also, I have been active in my community and been striving to be a good citizen. In high school, I have been involved in a multitude of clubs, sports, volunteering, and have achieved alot in academics. I have achieved leadership and distinction in all activities I set out for. Also, I tend to go for hobbies that promote self-growth (ie music over video games)
Right now, I am just in college, focusing on school and employment, giving each my own. All the jobs I had, I seemed to have success and recognition.
The reason I briefly mention what I have, was to just to make sure you guys know that I am serious about success, and more importantly serving this Great Country. Im not trying to jock myself up, as I wouldn't hold a candle to anyone here. I'm not some late twenties troll, who plays video games, working a menial job, doing nothing with his life.
Also, I am just a mere and humble guest in your house, and I thank you all deeply here for welcoming me. More importantly, I thank all the former Military members here, who have served us and protected us.
As I mentioned earlier, I have aspirations to serve this country, and would love to serve as a US Army Special Forces soldier. I am not looking to do it for fame our status, or the 'Beret', but because I really believe in its mission, especially with FID and empowering others.
I love the motto of liberating the oppressed, and how its mission is crucial to establishing democracy, while risking as little American lives as possible (force multipliers). I am also in awe of how this unit seems to breed the consummate warrior, being skilled in all aspects of soldiering, while maintaining for themselves their diplomatic skills.
In conclusion, I want to just re-emphasize my gratitude for all those who serve. I also thank everyone here for welcoming me, and I look to contribute as much as this civilian puke can, especially with meaningful and enlightening questions.

My name is Kevin Gardner
I was Medically Discharged on 20 Jan 2010 From the Army out of FT. Lewis WA. Before I was in the Army I made the mistake of joining the Navy, My time in the Navy saw me through Enginemen A school 6 weeks of BUDS training for the purpose of being a glorified water Taxi driver for those adrenalin seeking Sailors, Sere school as well as the navy’s tactical driving course, I know right.
Shortly after I left the Navy I joined the Army as an 88M. upon deploying to Iraq with 10th mountain 4th brigade out of FT. Polk LA our Battalion Commander was tasked with sending qualified soldiers to the NPTT (national police training team.) My commander told me that the reason why I was chosen to go to the team was because of the training I had received in the navy.
I enjoyed the time I had with those Professionals and I learned a lot. Towards the end of my tour we were heading back to the camp liberty when we were struck by a EFP that was behind one of those dam concrete barriers that are all over that country. I was told that I suffered minor wounds, and sent back to full duty after a month of being laid up. No rest for the wicked, upon returning to the states I PCS to FT Lewis were I went back to a transportation company.
After being on a small team I discovered that I struggled somewhat with the attitudes of my fellow soldiers, to me it was hard to deal with people who did not have that bond that I had had with the other guys on the NPTT team.
A few weeks went by and one morning at pt I saw a line of busses standing in formation a First Sergeant had asked if anyone would like to join SF. My commander pointed at me and said try SPC Gardner, so I got on the bus took a little trip answered some question did a lot of PT and then a physical, well my physical is what killed any chance I had at finding a home in SF, it turns out that the Shrapnel I had taken in Iraq had made hamburger out of my cartilage and the muscles around my right knee did not knit right when it healed. Not only was I not able to join SF but I was medically discharged 3 months later effectively ending my career in the Army.
What I never understood was why I did not let my injury bother me through everything we did no matter how hard it was to me it was a discomfort, but now it hurts every day. I am now a medically retired E-5, I live in Ford WA, and I find that even here I cannot connect with other veterans and then I stumbled upon this forum and thought I would give it a shot.
I know I was never SF but I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to sit and laugh with you all. and I do know there is nothing redacted on my DD-214 did not lose my files in a fire, the files from the Army are not secret , oh there are some things missing but that’s from Lazy NCO’S that did not want to do the paper work we all know how that is. I am married I have 2 daughters one 4 the other 7.
One thing I can say is I was extremely lucky to be given a chance to try out.

Have a good one gents,

Hello
I'm a budding writer just here learning as much as I can about this world. Had a cup of coffee in the Navy but tore ACL and MCL and was discharged.
Hello all,
I'm a Junior in college majoring in International Relations and I'm planning on complementing it with studies in Asian Affairs. It has been my dream to serve in Army Special Forces since I was in High School. I've done a lot of research over the past couple of years (you can never learn enough!) which has inspired me even more to one day reach my aspirations.
Zonie Diver's quote about "the calling" really hit home for me because I have those same feelings. I want to serve my country and help the less privileged people around the world while helping fight our enemies. It is no doubt a long and difficult path, but I can't see myself doing anything else in life.
I've spoken to a QP in the 19th SFG who recommended that I join through the Rep-63 Program because of the extra preparation the NG offers. I'm seriously considering it for the future, but right now I'm focusing on my "25m target" of graduating college and maintaining a high GPA. And of course to do PT. I still have about two years to prepare for SFAS.

Hello,
My name is Chris and I'm a former 10th grouper. I'm just trying to get access to a thread on this site regarding a new book. I'm just interested to see what people are posting about it.
Thanks.
I am originally from Auburn, Indiana and attended USMA (c/o 2011). Before my final year, I was able to attend class 09-10 and was selected, but am waiting until I am eligible to attend the Q Course. I studied Chemical Engineering and rock climbed competitively for three years during college. I am currently an Infantry PL in the 101st ABN deployed to Khowst, AFG. One of my NCOs told me about this site as a resource for constructing an antenna. I'm so glad that he did; the wealth of knowledge here is astounding.
Hello,
I am currently assigned to a NG ODA in the NW. I have time in 2-19, 1-3, and 1-19. I also work as a 911 based paramedic and a 1099 guy. Been here for some time but just came to periscope depth. PM if you need bona fides or verification of 18 series.
My name is Daniel and I am a senior in college. Upon graduation, I will pursue enlistment with an 18x contract.
I am a young man from the MA who grew up with a few QPs. The vast amount of knowledge and life experiences shared with me has had a profound effect on the person I have become today. I just want to thank all the QPs here for their previous or continuing service to our country and for taking time to run this forum. The information provided here is priceless to young men seeking the ultimate “Goal”. I am glad to be a fly on the wall.
I've been a member of this forum and used it as a resource for almost two years. I received a Bachelor's degree in 2008, am nearly 27 years old, and will soon ship on an 18x contract.
Thank you for the site; I will continue seeing and not be heard.

Good evening gentlemen,
I have been a Marine infantryman for 15 years. I had set up an account months ago but op tempo always dictates what our down time is used for. I have viewed several post and have gained better insight to your community. I appreciate the skill and mind set this community offers. When I was a young jarhead I had considered cross decking to the Army because of this community but chose to stay because I enjoy the mission I had as an infantry squad leader. I hope to absorb some useful knowledge here and will respect the opportunity I am given to be on this sight.

Hi Everyone,
I'm currently a civilian looking into a REP-63 contract with the NG. Serving in the military has always been an interest of mine and this option would provide the best balance for my stage of life (married, no kids, wife has a job she loves in GA). I look forward to becoming more acquainted with you all and a big thank you to those who have served or are serving.
Some items in progress,
- Contacted a recruiter with 20th group.
- Read Get Selected for Special Forces and will be working through the training recommendations. Reading Chosen Soldier, I love the perspective given. Reading Slow Burn and can't put it down. Stu Mittleman has some great advice for endurance training.
- Picking up some boots this month and will begin ruck marching.
- I used to do Orienteering in ROTC, so I've started picking that back up.
- Continue working on my APFT scores.
Matt.
Then you should come up with a more manly moniker;)

I'm Paul. I'm just an angsty little 17 year old High School squirt who has his distant goals set pretty high in the Army. As soon as I came upon this site I was completely overwhelmed. The knowledge, patience, intelligence, the camaraderie, the great mentors, the incredible people and the INFINITE wealth of knowledge that resides in this domain. It kept me hooked for weeks and I'm honored to be able to finally register.
At one point in time I wanted to work for Rockstar Games or Bethesda Softworks. I wanted to help make AAA video games that everyone wanted to drop 60 bucks on. I perused and am currently halfway through a 2-year degree in Graphic design. Afterwards I was to transfer and get a bachelor's in computer sciences.
But one day I realized, I could make these video games... these senseless wastes of time, for the rest of my life. Or I could travel the world and be a part of history. I was in contact with a recruiter the same day.
I'm a severe gun nut and have spent much time on the internet on world.guns, fueling my obsession. Also in the past weeks I've developed a hefty interest with what you Quiet Professionals do, and what you do to get there.
I've got pretty much nil to contribute here for many years to come and will leave all discussion to the guys who deserve it. Until then - the Quiet Professionals, the moderators, god (and The Reaper) willing - I want to absorb as much information as humanly possible. I want nothing more than to be a part of this amazing family and hopefully become a Quiet Professional myself.
Hi guys, my name is Chris. Been trolling this site for a few years now. I figured I'd fill out this stuff now that I have a question. I spent 6 years in Germany and now Im back in Colorado.

Make your first post here:
I completed the Q-Course in 9-84, as an 18E. I proceeded to 7th signal for a short time, before being picked for Cabin Beach (Reactivation of 1st/1st) on Torii Station, Okinawa. I remained on ODA-113, a Scout Swimmer team, until 1988, at which time I proceeded to SWC phase 2 committee instructor. I got out in July of 1989, as a SSG (P).
I am looking to get vetted. Eric Wardlow said he knows TS, and can speak with him to vet me if necessary.
These following individuals were either on my team, or battalion during my service:
Eric Wardlow, Ed Walker, Mark Sheppard, Charles Brantley, Michael Rosario, Terry Palmore, Steve Engish, Larry Kramer, James Miles, John Wade, David Kolar, Clint Eseray (CO), Dean Reid (Tm Sgt), Galen Musselman (Tm Sgt), Wayne Karvonen, Timothy McFarland, Richard Rosencrans, Dennis Brinkmeier, When we arrived in oki, LTC Estep was the commanding officer.
I hope this is enough info to vet me.
Thank you for your assistance.
Regards,

Hello gentleman and ladies,
I am a contractor/professional camper/wanderer of the woods out here in Pineland. Joined a couple of months ago primarily to utilize your search bar for learning purposes but had no idea how much I'd enjoy reading your articles, thoughts, and jokes. Thanks for all you have done and continue to do.

I am following the instructions of introducing myself for a first post.
I retired from Active Duty in 2004. I was an Armor & Mech IN guy for a while, then left AD to go to Seminary and returned back to AD 4 years later (1980) as a Chaplain. I was the 1st Group Chaplain when they were first re-activated, (in the old WWII buildings of North Fort). I felt privileged to be in Group--those were Interesting days--like when the CSM for 3rd BN shot the Team Sgts dog in front of the formation. (a bunch of us were climbing Ranier on that day)
COL. B was good to me--I was pretty inexperienced to be the Group Chaplain--shoot--I was also the only Chaplain at the time. I hadn't quite learned yet to think "outside the box". Being in Group fixed that for me--but that "thinking outside the box" would go on to make me a PITA to my Bosses when I went back to the conventional Army........
I am here, now, because I just started (last week) the Laurel Reserve Police Academy (for our Sheriff's Dept). At 61 :boohoo I'm the oldest guy in the class by about 15+ years. Our county is 1,800+ sq miles, with only a few Deputies. I don't expect to be kicking down doors anytime soon, but I may end up clearing buildings, checking alarms, etc, etc. So I will be coming back occasionally with questions about procedures, etc.
As to gear questions--when we graduate from the Academy in May, we get issued one uniform and a badge, and can used previously donated level IIIA vests--all the other gear, we buy ourselves. I figure I'll just use one of my Kimbers for a duty weapon, and I already have a Lewis Machine & Tool AR w/ Aimpoint T-1. I will be checking back in, looking for advice about tactical vests, rifle plates, lights for my AR etc.
Thanks for letting me pick your brains.........

Hello out there. Was turned on to this forum by Baghdad Razor, whom I put on a UH60 somewhere in RC-East this past August. I'm here to watch and gain insight as I continue my quest to improve myself.. and do something worthwhile.
I'm 25, currently a part of 'The Rock' - 2/503, and headed (back) to Bragg very shortly. I appreciate the opportunity to watch and learn.

Thanks To all who serve. Well I am awisewon a Honorably discharged Marine I am from a family of those who served in silence for a number of Generations. I am Retired I am also disabled that was due to exposure of a unknown poison while on a job. I to live in mostly silence and have so many years and keep my life and families life real private. I thank all those that served dearly as does my entire family. I am a no nonsense type person I have vast interest and skills. I do currently battle several serious illness and am more than lucky to still be alive a few times over there is no cure. My family and I live with the fact I am a dead man still walking.I am at off the charts high risk of sudden death. I do at times have vision problems sometimes worse than other as a result of the strokes. I try to Battle my illnesses and extend my life, provide for and enjoy my family as best I can. I have done this intro when I first became a member on these boards. I guess some members feel because I have not posted on here on a regular basis I must intro each time sorry I didn't see that in the rules but alright. I do not use the boards on a regular basis at times I might depends what I have going on or what issues are of interest. I have a strong sense of morals God and Country. Other than that not much more to be said.
Hey all, I'm Agmundr. Currently on Recruiting duty in the SoCal BN, 11B getting ready to go to SFAS. Finished my physical today as well as took record APFT, sending it to the SF Recruiters at Lewis tomorrow for further guidance.
I found this site through the Get Selected! book. In case the author sees this post, thanks for providing a great wealth of knowledge. I have put three 18X contracts in, and the first one just got Selected for 18C a couple of months ago. He is one of two that used the book to prepare, hopefully the other makes it as well (which I believe he will, the guy's a beast).
Thank you to all of the experienced members who have posted on this board; I've been perusing the threads for a few weeks now and have found the knowledge base invaluable.

Hello Gentlemen,
First,
I have been staying up to speed with the forums for about a year now and the information is outstanding . Thanks to all who have dedicated their time to make this a resource for us tracking pipeline and those in the community.
I am currently CAARNG member and Combat Engineer PL out of SOCAL. Currently assigned to A CO 79th BSTB. I have been prior enlisted with the 1/140th as a 15P(Aviation Ops Specialist) out of Los Alamitos. I am currently trying to get myself up to speed to pursue the pipeline in the Guard for the 19th SFG. My time to train up is about 2-3 maybe 4 before I am eligible . So no excuses there plenty of time to prepare. Any advice and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I want to be the best I can be and an asset to wherever I end up .
Hello, I'm Ron. First, thanks to all who have served/are serving. I hope to join you in the future! I'm 17 years old, with the plan of getting an 18X contract after I graduate from college while on a medical waiver.

Reaper,
I had a good time out there. It was great to meet Chris and Bill at the booth. I got a call today about a Yarborough knife for sale at a local pawn shop. Couldn't find the owner listed but still looking to see if he is still in. If he is there will be a call to his CSM. If he isn't still in it is probably better for the Regiment that he isn't.

Morning everybody,
Names Gunter, currently a college student that's planning on enlisting with an 18x contract in the near future. Not sure if I want to finish up another year and half of college first or if I want to dive right into it.
Did Air Force ROTC for all the wrong reasons, one being that my parents didn't want me to go enlisted, and another being my parents wanted me to go Air Force because they get "treated the best". Anyways, got an E.A. slot for field training and decided to turn it down because it wasn't where my passions were. While my buddies in ROTC wanted more of a management or administrative job, I had more of a desire to get my hands and feet dirty, in a figurative and literal sense.
Pops was in special operations himself, 2nd ranger battalion, and as much as he tried deterring me from going down that route, I feel as though it's in my blood and I got the drive to do it.
Came to this website through some random google searches and found some good information on how to up my PT regimen more. Competed in powerlifting :lifter and martial arts in college, though my cardio is lacking a bit. Great website and sorry for the lengthy intro.
I too know what Pokemon and Regular Show are...But I would never admit it here.

Hello,
I am 31 years old,I emmigrated to this great country late 2011 from Ireland where I lived all my life.I served 9 years in the army in Ireland. Currently just finished OSUT in Benning as 18x which I was lucky enough to pick up in basic and I became a US citizen recently.Despite having recent experience in the military soldiering in the US is a different animal altogether so still a steep learning curve. This site has been a huge help so far.
Thanks to everyone for their hard work.
Hello,
My first introduction was back in 05. I was turned back on to the forum by a former team member sharing the current SF 2nd Amendment efforts. Former 18E served in B 1/3.

God bless our warriors. I grew up with a deep appreciation of the United States and our history. Couldn't wait to join USMC in 1968. Serving as an infantry Pvt. in Vietnam was an eye opener. US Army ROTC Infantry commission in 1976. Again opened my eyes on a lot of things. Glutton for punishment and became a police officer in 1979, and again it was an eye opener. Disabled in 2002 for PTSD and now I don't open my eyes, I just grit my teeth and jump right in. It's the journey, not the destination.
Hey everybody, I'm a hopeful that's it. Any advice is appreciated.

Afternoon brothers,
My name is Rob L, I was an 18D (class 04-04) with B/1/10 and B/3/10; I made a trip to Balad, Afghanistan and Africa while in Germany, went back to SOTF-C for another Iraq trip when I got to B/3/10.
My Grandfather enlisted as Infantry with 10th Mountain, got his battlefield commission in the Italian Mountains in WWII and went over to Intel, retiring as the Commandant of the ASA at Devens; I have another posting looking for info to his "honorary Green Beret" plaque I was given before going to Germany, if anyone has info it would be greatly appreciated.
I recently wrote (well, took about 4 years) and released a memoir of my time in 10th group titled "Love Me When I'm Gone" that seems to have stirred up a few folks here...that apparently weren't inspired or bothered by "The Green Berets" movie/book or "Ballad of the Green Berets!"
The book was signed off by all of the members of my ODA, the family of the brother we lost in Afghanistan, The Pentagon, SOCOM and various intel agencies. I jumped through every hoop that was set up, and am giving a portion of all profits to SOWF, USA Cares, the family of the brother we lost and others; if you have a gripe with the book, and it starts with "I didn't read it but...." I'm not going to pay much attention for all of the reasons listed above.
So that's me; love me, hate me, or somewhere in between; my brothers stand with me, all signed off on it, and I'm not really bothered by anything else. If you read it, I hope you enjoy it, it's getting great reviews from the military community.
I'm jumping off and writing fiction now, so maybe those people in the community who are up in arms won't be as opposed to those ones!

Hello,
I spent over 20 years in 5th SFG(A) serving in both 1st BN and 2nd BN, serving most of my time on the ODA's (where we all want to stay). I retired a few years ago and have enjoyed the retiree's lifestyle (about to go nuts looking for that rush)!
I retired as a MSG having told branch to get bent in trying to send me to the SGM academy in TX for a year, after 7 years as a MSG and three years of promotion declination's I figured I best retire before they kick me to the curb or send me to SWCS.

I joined the forum a couple years ago, but haven't been around much. I decided to reconnect after coming across the letter supporting the 2nd Amendment. SFQC Class 5-88 (18E), retired 18Z; done some law enforcement, and now doing security contracts overseas when I can find the work.
I am an 18E from 3rd now in 19th. I am also attending Duke for my MBA. Looking forward to being able to blend the skill sets of the quiet professional with that of global business. I look forward to being on and off the site as I may post for some feedback from old timers as I am still in and able to contribute to change.
Welcome all.
ArkSeven, Traveler06, we've probably met somewhere down the road. (I was also a commo instr when T06 went through :D)

I hope this introduction finds you all doing well. I heard of this site from the "Get Selected" book. My name is John and I am from NY. I am a 27 year old Army vet with 8 years of service. I got out less then a year ago and have faced some real tough times adjusting to civilian life and am longing to go back in as an 18X. Unfortunately I just found out the MOS closed for E5 and above just two days before I was going to get my physical. So as of now I'm just attending college and training for SFAS on my own until (god willing) the MOS opens up again using trainingforwarriors, MMA/BJJ, and lots of road marching. I chose the name lighthouse because it is what I'm looking for in a sense. The metaphorical guiding light on my journey to earning my place to fight by your sides. With all the resources available now I'm looking forward to getting in the fight and earning my place in the SF group and family. I welcome any advice or messages(even though I'm sure most of everything has been covered in the threads). All the best gentlemen.

My name is C. H. (5th GRP 2002-2006)
I was a BN S2 for 1/5 for OIF 1 , after that went to Group. I can honestly say the men of 5th GRP are the most proffessional soldiers, I have ever had an opportunity to work with in the Army, and it was truly an honor.
Hello all,
The names Tony, I’m in 5th SFG (A) currently serving abroad. A former 1/10 SFG (A) buddy of mine recommended this site while back and I'm just now getting around to setting up an account. I'm glad he did because It’s refreshing to get the ‘old timers’ take on some of the issues that people within our community hold near and dear to our hearts. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Hi
Life member of the SFA
I am a retired 18Z with 24 years service. I enlisted in Sep 1969 and retired Sep 1993 when I wasn't picked up for SGM. (Might have had something to do with refusing the SGM Academy).
In my 24 years I served with the 3d, 5th, 6th, 7th, 1/10 Bad Toelz (80-81), SFD(A)E Bad Toelz (82-83) and TF2AE (CCC)(71-72). I also had a two year tour with ROTC in South Dakota.
In RVN I was the one two on RT SCAR (South Carolina) at Kontum. After Vietnam I was one of the unfortunants that were sent to Supply School and served with A/1/5th SF. After getting my SF MOS back (Heavy Weapons) I served on ODA 515 until transfered to Germany. At Toelz I was in B Co before transfering to the S3 Tng Office of Det Europe. Later I was Training NCO for th 7th SFG(A). My last assignment was as Company Operations Sergeant for A/3/3 SFG(A).
Hey everybody my name is Mitch Carman, I am from Eugene, OR but currently going to college in St. Charles, MO. I am 18 years old and finishing up my freshman year of college before enlisting and going to the Army. I have been an athlete all my life and am on scholarship to play football but it has always been my dream to join the military and I feel that it will be better for me right now. Looking forward to have some of my questions answered on here to help me choose my path.

Hello everyone, I'm a current 2/20th SOT-A. I'm here to read, learn, and possibly contribute. I have had the honor and pleasure of supporting an ODA down range recently (1/3 SFG), the dedication and professionalism of the team I was attached to and of those I'm in the hospital with now has had a profound impact on me. I had considered returning to the IN before this past deployment, no longer considering that, looking foward to a few more years of supporting the best of the best.

Gentlemen:
Thank you for having me as a guest. I am a retired “leg” US Army and USAR MP officer. Did my basic at Fort Bragg in 1977, where our platoon Sergeants were all senior SF NCO’s. Most of the instructors we had were also SF NCO’s. Our Ops NCO at the college I attended was likewise a SF senior NCO, who had the distinction of being part of the team in the Che Guevera hunt and capture. I received quite the education, which I still remember to this day.
Most of my service was USAR – my twenty plus years from 1977 to 1998 were perhaps the most peaceful time this country has every enjoyed.
After 9/11, I tried to force my way back in. Not even my Senator at the time, Jesse Helms, could sway the powers that were.
My journey here began after 9/11.
For the last several years, I have watched closely the attempts to take our Republic into another form of government. With the current attempts to eviscerate the Second Amendment, the time for merely watching is over. Those of us who are students of history know all too well that once an individual's right to protect their liberties goes, the rest of the Constitution will soon follow. An armed population is a serious threat to tyranny of all types, but is especially a threat to tyranny from within.
Looking back on the history of the US, this Nation managed to go almost 150 years from the time of the adoption of the Constitution without the need for a law restricting Second Amendment Right before it started:
1934 - National Firearms Act of 1934. The first federal gun-control law; levies a restrictive $200 tax on the manufacture or sale of machine guns and sawed-off shotguns. All sales were to be recorded in a national registry.
1938 - National Firearms Act of 1938. Requires the licensing of interstate gun dealers, who must record their sales; prohibits sales to individuals under indictment or convicted of crimes of violence.
1968 - Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, and the Gun Control Act of 1968. Now the primary federal law regulating firearms. Prohibits all convicted felons, drug users and the mentally ill from buying guns; raises the age to purchase handguns from a federally licensed dealer to 21; and expands the licensing requirements to more gun dealers and requires more detailed record-keeping.
1986 - Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. Bans civilian ownership of machine guns manufactured after May 19, 1986 (weapons made and registered before that date are not affected). The small victories: limits the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms from inspecting gun dealers more than once a year, with follow-up inspections allowed only if multiple violations are found; forbids the government from creating a national registry of gun ownership.
1993 - The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993. Mandates background checks of gun buyers to prevent sales to people prohibited under the 1968 legislation through NICS; On the positive side, records of such checks cannot be preserved because federal law prohibits the creation of a national registry of gun ownership; Sales by unlicensed private sellers who are not engaged in gun dealing as a business are not subject to the checks under federal law.
1994 - The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. 10-year federal ban on the manufacture of new semi-automatic assault weapons; specifies 19 weapons that have the features of assault rifles; bans several specific models said to be the preferred weapon of violent drug gangs; bans large-capacity ammunition magazines, limiting them to 10 rounds. Not much good: Did not apply to weapons that were already in legal possession, and there are easy ways to adapt new weapons to avoid the prohibitions.
2003 - Tiahrt Amendment. Prohibits law enforcement from publicly releasing data showing where criminals bought their firearms. 145 years passed between the adoption of the Second Amendment and the National Firearms Act of 1934. After the National Firearms Act of 1938, it was another 30 years (1968) before Gun Control was addressed again at the federal level. The next act came 18 years later (1986), followed by another only 7 years later (1993).
There is historical precedent for this creeping gradualism. The Fabian Society was the organization created to establish a socialist state in the United Kingdom.
What distinguished the Fabians from similar movements was their strategy:
The name of the society is derived from the Roman general Fabius Cunctator, whose patient and elusive tactics in avoiding pitched battles secured his ultimate victory over stronger forces.
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/199691/Fabian-Society
More specifically, they are the contemporary advocates of achieving their goals by boiling the frog slowly.
The Fabians believed that capitalism had created an unjust and inefficient society. They agreed that the ultimate aim of the group should be to reconstruct "society in accordance with the highest moral possibilities". The Fabians rejected the revolutionary socialism of H. M. Hyndman and the Social Democratic Federation and were concerned with helping society to move to a socialist society "as painless and effective as possible".
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Pfabian.htm
Their "painless" method was to achieve reforms very gradually. To move at the political speed of the hour hand on the clock rather than the second hand. If changes happened slowly and in small increments, one could achieve their ultimate goal.
The approach of the Fabians is also an approach used by communism. As a “cold warrior” those tactics were committed to memory. IN a book written by a friend of our current Potus, Bill Ayers, Ayers proudly proclaims himself a communist. In Prairie Fire, Ayers details the gradual corruption and takeover of a nation from within. Chapter and verse from the communist playbook.
I took an oath long ago that had no expiration date. It was a simple oath with no room for alternative meaning. There is guidance in the Bible concerning words of this nature. As is stated in the Book of Numbers, Chapter 30:
If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
A man’s word is indeed his bond.
I, like many others, have been searching for men of like mind. We can stand together on the future of our Republic, or we can hang separately. And then I saw your letter on the Second Amendment. I share those same thoughts and values.
So here I am. I am a humbled guest here that can hopefully contribute a little to the discussion in exchange for the knowledge and camaraderie of the Quiet Professionals here. It is an honor to be amongst you.

It has come to my attention that I may not have posted an introduction when I signed up for this outfit back in 2010. I thought I did, but probably not. My memory is as short as my -- well -- let's just say it's pathetic. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and mine, what's left of it, is a total wasteland.
Anyway, I come here mostly to read, so it did not seem to matter that I might have failed at my initial responsibilities. I really love to read here about you guys trashing wannabes. I hate wannabes. I learned about this outfit from friends on the SF-list, so I came here, signed up and just read.
I felt a bit out of place here as I was hardly what one would call a "professional soldier." I did not even complete my initial enlistment. The Army got rid of me for allowing too many bad guys use me to prove their marksmanship (as if that was my idea). I graduated from SFTG on 08-16-68 (class 69-1) and was assigned to 3rd Grp on Smoke Bomb Hill for a few months. From there I went to 5th Grp in RVN for a few months, followed by a few months on the sick, lame and lazy list, followed medical retirement on Veterans Day -- November 11, 1969. I had a grand total of 28 months service, including BCT, AIT, BAC, SFTG, 3rd Grp, 5th Grp and hospital time. I was barely in SF long enough for a cup of coffee.
I served on Detachment A-344 (think ussfa344) 5th SFG, located at Bunard, III CTZ, Viet Nam from 01-19-69 to 06-20-69.
I signed "the letter" the other day, then decided to come over here for another look-see after it was made public. I made a post about Senator Cruz from Texas, and I guess folks figured that I had not crossed all the Teas and dotted all the Eyes associated with joining. I hope this clears all that up.

Welcome!
...I felt a bit out of place here as I was hardly what one would call a "professional soldier." I did not even complete my initial enlistment. Even if you wouldn't characterize yourself as a "professional soldier", I would argue that your short service epitomized the Quiet Professional ethos...thank you for both your sacrifice and your service...
For those who have never seen greatness and humility personified, I would recommend reading the following and paying attention to USSFA344's comments:

It has come to my attention that I may not have posted an introduction when I signed up for this outfit back in 2010. I thought I did, but probably not. My memory is as short as my -- well -- let's just say it's pathetic. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and mine, what's left of it, is a total wasteland.
Anyway, I come here mostly to read, so it did not seem to matter that I might have failed at my initial responsibilities. I really love to read here about you guys trashing wannabes. I hate wannabes. I learned about this outfit from friends on the SF-list, so I came here, signed up and just read.

As most of you will notice This will be my second post because unfortunately we lost a great member of the SFG earlier today and I posted earlier in that thread. As I said before I'm a humble civilian and I have great admiration and respect for all of you who served so I could rest easy at night.

Hello, my name is Seth,
I am a 35P KP/Sot-A with 1st BN 1st SFG in Okinawa. I joined this message board to help me gain a more comprehensive understanding of the 18 series professionals with whom I work. Thank you to the QP's who have created this environment, it is extremely beneficial to the direct support personnel assigned to ODA's. I look forward to learning from the vast base of experience contained here, De Oppresso Liber.
Good Morning to All Professional Soldiers.
First I would like to thank all of you here for your service to our country.
I first joined the Navy at 19 years old, serving during the Viet Nam era for almost 4 years. I joined the Army in 1977 and served for 16 years, yes I did like the Army life which also gave my wife and kids plenty of opportunities to see the world too. I had a good career and served in many places finally retired from APG in Md in 1993 as a Chief Warrant Officer. I also did 2 overseas jobs as a contractor in Saudi 2 years and Bosnia for 1 year as an maintenance adviser. For the last 12 years I worked in IT repairing computers for Montgomery College in Maryland.
I have joined the Oath Keepers and actively RTI. I believe our country is in deep trouble, seems like no body wants to accept personal responsibility any more.
I enjoy conversations about politics and guns. I'm active in IWLA in Md.
I am a member of the SAF, MarylandShallIssue.org, NRA. RSO qualified at the range. I'm responsible for teaching my wife, daughters and grandsons firearm safety. It is all about one's family. As always in God we Trust.

My name is Kevin Miller. I'm stationed at Ft bliss Texas with 1-1 AD. I'm an 11B but for some reason ended up in a BSB and I'm currently stuck with S-4:confused: I was offered a 18x contract in basic and have been kicking myself ever since for not taking it. Now I'm diligently preparing to go to SFAS and have been using this site to gain just a little more insight. There is nothing I want more in this world than to become the best of the best!

My name is Koz. 21 Y/0. Serving in the Army Reserves since 2008 as an MP and most recently a Medic. Currently awaiting a release from higher to be granted the opportunity to go to selection.
Its hard to write this as I currently have nothing to offer you others for advice on special operations matters, making the only purpose I can serve is really to benefit from the wealth of knowledge others provide. I hope to absorb what I can and put that information to good use to show my appreciation for what all you QP's and support personnel do here.
I'm humbled by the sacrifices of our troops and allies, and I find the ideologies you folks live by to be very insightful and inspiring.
My thanks to you all for allowing me to be a part of this particular community.
until next time.

I am a current QP, and looking forward to being part of the discussions on this site.

Found the site as a link to the 2A letter. Served 22 years as a 11/54 officer. Ranger class 7-68 (winter Ranger), tabbed in January 1969. Germany, 2-48 Inf (3AD) first, then to Bragg for SFOC, then to RVN on orders to 5SFG. 101st had dibs on all Captains, however, so I went to 2/327 (No Slack), as S2 for a couple of months, then to B Company as CO. Back to Benning, snowbirding with RTB, then IOAC. ROTC assignment, then to Alaska, 4-23 Inf (172 LIB), as Bn S3 Air, then S3, then Brigade S3 Air. Followed by a NG Advisor tour in NY, then a Readiness Command assignment, then back to Alaska as Commandant of NWTC. Another ROTC assignment as PMS, then retired (in lieu of a Pentagon assignment). Now working as Director of Human Resources for all the US operations of a global manufacturing company
I am 26 and have been off of active duty since 2011. I am now looking to reenter and I want to take part in the 18 x ray program. I have kept myself in very good shape since I have exited and I want to make an attempt at joining the Army Special Forces.

Hello everyone,
I'm from the old times, from what I've been able to read here; I went through the Q course in 1970 before "Robin Sage" when it was called Gobbler Woods.
I subsequently served with the 10th SFGA, 8th SFGA and 3/7th SFGA before leaving active duty in 1975.
I became a police officer in Indiana using my military background to start both the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics team for my department. I also trained both police and fire in SCUBA and water rescue tactics while a member of the Water Rescue Team (I was PADI #4039 OWSI).
I also continued in the Guard (for a short time with Co D, 1/151 Inf (Ranger) (LRRP)) and later with the USAR commanding an ODA with 12th SFGA prior to promotion to Major. When SF branch was created I immediately transferred from the Infantry (which only took a phone call because my Branch manager and I had served together in the 8th SFG and he knew me all to well (grin)).
Unfortunately, I didn't get to work in my PMOS afterwards because of the shortage of field grade positions. I spent those years as a detailed Inspector General and finally teaching CGSC and CAS3 as an adjunct professor at the Army Command & General Staff College until my retirement in 1996.
I also retired from the sheriff's department after assignments to an FBI Task Force, completion of the FBI National Academy, and command of the Administrative Division in 2006.
Much like the movies, where: "I thought I was out, but they pulled me back in!" a friend from the department who I had worked with closely called and asked me to be his Assistant Chief of Police when he assumed the Chief's position. I couldn't say no and took the reins of one of the suburban Indianapolis police departments for 13 months.
With that behind me, I got married (again) and purchased a 42 foot sailboat which I spent time aboard along the east coast (currently Jacksonville, FL) when I'm not gadding about the country or space a-ing abroad.
Whew! Left out a few things, like the novel I wrote, but otherwise, that's me in a nutshell ....
Hope to hear from folks here, but until then
Take care and stay safe!
Lance

Just signed up after meeting a few of you at the Shot show this year.
A bit about me:
I live in Oregon in the Willamette Valley in a little town oustide of Eugene (and thank God for the "outside of Eugene" part).
I was in the Navy from 86-90. I was an AW (antisubmarine warfare, accoustics). Spent my time flying around in a P-3C in VP-9. I went through rescue swimmer school in 86. kindergarden compared to what I know of any of the SF, but it was hard...kinda gives perspective ya know.....
My day job is that of a Nursing Home Administrator. Worked in healthcare since I graduated with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation. My first job was at the VA in Palo Alto, CA in the National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Dissorders. It was a whopper! Went into working rehab with stroke, cva, head injury and somehow it led me to working with seniors. I do love what I do.
So how does a Nursing Home Administrator end up going to the Shot Show???? Well, I also have my FFL07 and have just applied for my SOT so I can play with the fun stuff :).
See ya round and thanks again,

Hello all
I am a Spc in the US Army
Im a 12W (carpenter in an eng regt) I dropped out of wp because my mother got sick( she had had 4 strokes while I was away). I wanted to see her and all they would offer is 1 week .... I later enlisted because the Army seemed amazing.. THat's because West Point stuck to military traditions. When I went to enlist Their was only two mos openings 18X or 89D I choose 89D EOD because I heard it was the second most challenging school in the army So i made it to EOD school met my wife there and needless to say got her pregnant and got Reclassed to 12W 30 days before graduation Completed Whiskey training and felt melancholy happy to have mos and go to a unit but their was no challenge I arrive at the unit 2 weeks after graduation and my pays still messed up 6 months later RT now im currently in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan my mission is deconstruction but I've really just been police calling the area because my unit doesnt have tools for the mission I have one uniform because i followed orders and im just all around ate up.... I look to the SF as being that challenge and being amonga higher level thinking group of individuals who are self motivated In my current enviornment i am amongst some good and not so good nco's I have more motivation after being in the suck to try and make it to sf. I am trying to develop that ability to just obey an order no matter how retarded without thinking about it...... Today my nco changed pt to the afternoon because she said she doesnt get a good workout in the gym....The gym has 2 treadmills 3 elipticals a bench press set with the weights going up to 645lbs a bunch of resistance machines, dip bars.... a jungle gym two big ass tires matts and punching bags.... Sooo she made are pt be outside on a concrete pad in afghanistan our pt consisted of 2 shuttle sprints and 50 pushups....Apparently everybody in the army is a fitness trainer.. WHat would be the best way to approach this nco in order to get our old setup back 530 wake up @ 6 be at the gym for 1 hour and leave....Needless to say I need a challenge / change
Good morning,
I've been reading this site for a couple of years now, but decided to join when I read a thread I have some personal experience with and wanted to give the original poster info that comes from that hard experience. I'm a USCG licensed captain, and merchant marine. Currently living in NW Florida by Eglin AFB and working at an emergency vet clinic while continuing to sail as a hobby.
I also wanted to say to all members of the military on this site-SF and all others, past, present, and future-Thank You for your service and sacrifices. Salute.

Greetings,
I wanted to start my introduction with a "Thank You" to all who serve in our forces. My father-in-law served in Korea and said that it really doesn't matter where or when you served, but once you put on that uniform it never comes off your soul. Thank you for sacrificing your lives and risking the ultimate sacrifice, and sacrificing your families time and lives as well. And thank you to all of your children, spouses, parents, and families for sacrificing you.
I have never served in any of the armed forces and whenever I'm in the company of a veteran I'm always humbled. Even if they may be 20+ years younger than I. :)
I found your site linked via a re-post of the letter "Protecting the Second Amendment".
I'm a married father of three, have 7 grand-kids, etc. I have a strong interest in US Constitutional history, all of the Bill of Rights, though I believe the Second Amendment is that right which supports, guarantees, and underpins the Declaration and Constitution. I've had a variety of interests and hobbies over the years as my interest waxes and wanes. I guess you could say I'm a jack of all (or a few anyway) trades. I'm interested in preserving our liberties for our children and grandchildren, shooting, hunting, gardening, cooking,
food preservation, cheese-making, coffee-roasting, shortwave and ham radio, martial arts (Mixed and Shinpu-Ren), etc., etc,. etc. The mixed comes mostly from our youngest son who competes amateur MMA. I think the old man could still take him in a street fight but mostly because I have a different mindset about fighting than he does. Don't know how much longer that'll hold true though! No, I don't have any medals or prizes or anything like that. But I did take 5th place in a tourney in my second year. 5th out of 5 in my weight/belt division! :D
I try (often unsuccessfully) to keep my mouth shut unless I think I have something of value to say. I don't usually mind much if somebody tells me I don't know as much as I think I do in a given area, as long as they are willing to share their own experience and wisdom while expounding on what an idiot I am. :)
Currently I'm working in cybersecurity (mostly blue team), InfoSec and Information Assurance in the private utility sector.
I look forward to reading and learning from all of you gentlepersons - is that politically correct enough?
I've been on the forums for quite a while. The old introductions thread "disappeared," and so hence the time difference between my post and join date.
I just want to quickly say that I am very grateful for the knowledge and insights I've gained lurking over the past few years. I've learned a little more about how to approach or think things through while being here and reading. Or in other words, being here has increased my ability to see, to act and not just be merely acted upon.
I'm currently a full-time student in Idaho, planning to join the Army once I graduate.

Greetings all,
I served in the Guard side of the community with A/5/19th SFG (A).
Glad to be here.
Hi QP,
My name is Justin, I am a sophomore at the University of Delaware. My love of hunting, winning and hard-working ethic coupled with the desire to defend God and country has developed my interest in the military. My desire to be next to another highly trained solider, "in the shit," has lead me to be interested more specifically in Special Operations and elite warfare units. My desire to not only be a ruthless machine capable of killing any person or "thing" who would wish ill on my open-worship, my family, the man next to me or my country as a whole, but to also have the opportunity to develop diplomatic relationships with countries/sects/areas of conflict to make a more attractive solution to an issue plausible has led me to an interest in Army SF.
Hope to contribute with my questions ONLY, until, God-willing, I get my ODA
J

Make your first post here:
Gentlemen, prior to my introduction please allow me to first express my heartfelt gratitude for what you guys are doing here. Ever since I stumbled across this site I just can't stop reading, there is so much to learn and this is an incredible opportunity to sponge wisdom straight from the men who know rather than from recruiters who don't. In the last three days I've also lost count of how many times I've turned every head in my direction as the humor of a thread gets me laughing my arse off - a gentleman suggesting a propane mole trap solution for determining where the cartel tunnels go, springs to mind. I am at a loss for words to capture just how much being able to search this site for information means to me, thank you all for your heroic service to our great nation and may our grand kids learn to speak English (not Mandarin) yet!
I'm assuming you won't take the time to read my profile, if you do, please accept my apology for redundant information and although the tone might appear to be one of bragging, please understand, from our viewpoint it is very intimidating to be here, now, under the microscope of eyes that have achieved such greatness.
I am not worthy.
I am 5'9", 170lbs, 32yo without prior military service. I majored in Biochemistry at Texas A&M University, worked as an EMT-B, have played drums for as many as 2,500 people, scored 99 on my practice AFQT, am intensely driven for humanitarian aims, love meditation, am a decent runner, bench 260 and do suspended sit-ups with 90lbs on my chest. As far as I can determine from my current research I can still qualify for the 18x program with an age waiver because I meet the other requirements after I've paid off some traffic tickets and improved my credit.
I am intensely patriotic and (in principle) not afraid to lay down my life in defense of our people. I understand it's an easy thing to say, and quite another to jump on a grenade or leave cover to advance across an enemy line of fire. One can mentally rehearse these situations in the active effort to root out any and all fear until the cows come home but what separates you supermen from the rest of our society is the intestinal fortitude you gents have already displayed. Only under live fire will I truly discover myself and what mettle lies within. It is my prayer that I am made of the iron will and greatness as you. It is my terrified nightmares that I should discover I'm just an ordinary man or worse still, that I never get tested in this fire because I fail to complete the selection and training process. I obsess over this and honestly it keeps me up nights. It is my deepest desire to earn the esteemed honor and privilege to serve with you, our real life American Gods.

I am a medic, currently stationed at Fort Riley. I joined the Army a year ago looking for a challenge and never found it. In fact I was surprised/dismayed with how big Army operates.
I began looking into SF as an option and haven't looked back! I just returned from selection (got selected-18C/Pashto) and can't wait to attended the Q and continue down the path to my beret.

Hello,
Will be reading more than posting but wanted to say thanks for the site. I run a concrete cutting company now. I retired from Law enforcement but it's in the blood and I'm back in it part time that and with the economy it doesn't hurt to have another option open.
I also signed up because a close friend had passed and he had done three tours in Vietnam at least one of which he had been attached to a SF group. I know he thought highly of you folks and by some chance if there was a QP whom might have known him I thought they might want to know of his passing.
Well that's pretty much it in a nut shell. If any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks Poacher.
Started out Infantry and ended up a medic and intel analyst on SODA1 77th MI (CEWI) 12th SFG(A). Started reconnecting with folks over last year due to political shifts.

How's it going everyone. First and foremost I'd like to thank all of you for all of your awesome advice about 18x/SFAS/SF. It's been helpful to the point that I can't even believe it's free!
I'm currently prepping for 18x and should (hopefully) be shipping out in the summer. I've recently graduated college and I work as a strength and conditioning coach/ personal trainer. I'd like to think that my experience in that field gives me a bit of a leg up on the physical side of things, though you can never really know until you get there.
I was a pretty successful college soccer player so I'm used to making decisions under pressure, while tired. I have a good strength base with a 485 pound deadlift, a 405 pound back squat as well as a 335 pound front squat and 14-15 pull-ups. I have some weight to lose and I have to build my endurance base, but as of right now I can score an approximate (as I conduct the test myself) 270 on the APFT. The 2 mile is the part that I struggle with (14:30 on a treadmill so probably about 15:00 on the track), but I can max out the sit-ups and push-ups (I think anyone should be able to). Rucking is very new to me and it's something that I work on as much as possible. This site has been pivotal in my success with that.
You can be rest assured that I will be spending many, many hours on this site for the next few months. Thanks again for your help. I look forward to the journey that the next few years will bring.

Hi, my name's Chris. I've been in the USAF for almost 9 years now. Recently got back from doing a deployment on the MC12 (prior to that I was on AWACS) and now have orders to Beale AFB to do the MC12 job full-time. As I'm not SF I plan to primarily lurk, but potentially join in on conversations/ask questions on occasion.
Hey guys!
Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm 21 about to graduate from a small private college in Ohio. Studied accounting the past four years, and I'm not to keen on sitting behind a desk for a living. Fathers side of the family have all been in the Army so this is something I have been seriously considering. Looking forward to sponging up as much information as possible from this forum!
Good evening all. I am an E-6 intel analyst out of Ft. Bragg. I've been working in the SOF community since I arrived here in 2008. I'm here for several reasons:
1 - I've always wanted to be SF
2 - I like to read up on what's going on in the groups from "the guys on the ground"
Hope all are doing well, and keeping the community at its best.

I've been doing endurance events to keep in shape and have come across this site several times through internet searches, and after reading several threads and post I thought I could possible be of some benefit and decided to register.
But until that time, I'll hang out and read.

Hey everyone,
I'm a 27 year old Soldier looking to go to the Selection Course. I've been a lurking for a little over a year now. I enjoy this site and all the great information that everyone takes the time to put up here. Currently a Commo guy, but I prefer being outside than being in a tent/ building. I like fishing, shooting and spending time with my family.
I'm a civilian working as a software engineer. I'm 42 years old, married with 3 kids. If this is too brief an introduction, I apologize. I'm the type that would rather remain silent and appear stupid than open my mouth and remove all doubt. Hence the brevity here.
Thank you,
Bob
Hi. I apologize; Im late to my intro. My name is what I do. I'm branched AMEDD, but have been in CA/PSYOPS my entire career. I'm hoping that doesn't change but it looks like Big Army has other plans for me. I'm not real comfortable posting about myself. I may repeat or forget stuff (intro!) cause of some silly, little TBIs. But I'm better off than most. I'm currently at Bragg.
Thank you for allowing me onto your site. I am career MI. Currently 13 years in. Was originally a 98C(now 35Ns) and just recently went through JCAC and am now a 35Q. I am currently stationed at FT Meade, MD (only place for the 35Qs). I have one son and a pregnant wife, so looking forward to another child before the end of this year (God willing).
I come from a long line of military, and love the history of it. My father was an Officer under Chargin Charlie from 66-69, he then got out with his third purple heart. Surprisingly enough when he retired and moved to the land of the retired (aka FL) just round the corner from him is another Soggie! Even more amazing is they missed each other by two weeks in Country. Small world.
I am a firm believer in the Constitution, and take my Oath to it very seriously. As such I carry a copy with me wherever I go.
I don't plan on posting much/often and looking more for personal/professional development. If you ever have any MI questions I will do my best to answer them as properly as possible.
God Bless All,
Charles

Hi folks, I was a Front Loader operator with Delta Company, 237th Combat Engineers stationed in Heilbronn, Germany from 4/65- 10/67.
I finally found this site that might just have an answer or 2 about an incident that occured on 4-24-69 in VN...... I would also like to state that even before I joined the Army in 64, I had the greatest respect for all Special Forces personel, but when my brother Walt earned the privilege and the right to wear the Green Beret, it just took that respect to a higher level.
Now, the biggest reason for joining this site is that my brother Walter Marcantel, was a 2nd and 1st LT with 5th SFG at BMT, VN, and was on that mission that Shriver went missing, 4/24/69.
I have Walt's diary that might have a couple of entries in it regarding that mission. If someone who was there at that time, contact me, please. Thanks .......... Jerry (in Tucson)
Hello! I'm a thirty year old 18c, stationed in Okinawa Japan. This is my third year there, first assignment with group. Currently deployed in support of OEF-A, looking to gain and share experience and knowledge.
Hi all, found this forum via FaceBook re: the petition. I served in the active Army from Aug '72 until Aug '75 (ODA 322, 10th group) and then from Aug 75 to Feb '82 in the Reserves (ODA 113 11th Group). That was a long time ago. 11B by trade when I was in. Looking forward to seeing how the Force has changed over the years and possibly run into people I knew back then.

Gentlemen, just a few lines about myself. I am a North Carolina law enforcement officer. I stumbled across your website in a news article in Red Flag news. I appreciate what you guys have done, re doing, and will do for our country. If not for volunteers like yourselves our very freedom would vanish. Again, thank you. Looking forward to enjoying your site.

I've been in the Guard now for six years as a 11B. I currently work at a sporting goods store. I joined the Army at 19 and have had a lot of good opportunities thru the Guard.
Been deployed to Iraq once in 2010. In a few months I will be transferring active duty for the 18X pipeline. Been a long time goal of mine to be in Special Forces. Pretty much since 6th grade. I've given at minimum the next five years of my life to the active duty side of the house.
It will be a hard but enjoyable ride. Looking forward to the challenge.

Thank you for allowing me into the forum. I almost feel...unworthy. Also, thank you to those who serve / who have served our country - and everyone in it - in the absolute most honorable way.
I am not currently / previously been in the military. I'm a pretty average person, from the south, married, two children. My oldest son is seriously contemplating Army Special Forces. As a parent, I'd be lying if I didn't say there's a small part of me that's a little nervous about this...but a greater part of me couldn't be more proud.
I'm not certain I'd be much of a contributor here; my desire to join the group is more around learning as much as I can about Special Forces & Special Operations (and am encouraging my son to do the same), and to conduct research of a more personal sort.
Respectfully,

Army Reserve Infantry and we'll be retiring this year cuz I'm old and slow.
Served with Charlie Co 4/325th AIR 82nd Airborne, Charlie and Echo Companies of the the famed 100th Battalion 442nd Infantry Go For Broke. 2 Iraqi Freedom tours.
Been a fan of SF because of my ROTC instructors from 5th Group and my Uncle Jess who was a 1-0 in Vietnam. He retired as a CSM and when I came back from my 1st Iraq tour presented me with an SF coin that I carry to this day.

Hello,
I am a support soldier currently working for an ARNG Group and an active law enforcement officer. I was fortunate enough to accompany a team during an op down range a few years ago. Kept my eyes/ears open, mouth shut. (That will likely be the case for the most part here) Not only did I believe that these guys were getting it right, but it would be a good idea to find a way to get involved and do what I could to help. Although very fit, I have no illusions of going to SFAS, because of my age. Just plan to stay here and do all I can.
Now that I am working for this community, I have been able to learn a few skills that I wouldn't in big Army. I was able to earn a spot to my agency’s SWAT team and that is in no small part because of the experience I have gotten from this community.
THANK YOU

Hello all,
I'm a sgt in the 82nd and have had three combat deployments to Afghanistan in the last seven years. I spent five and a half years as an Artilleryman in the 173rd. Now I am a public affairs videographer. Not the job I thought it would be and I miss the brotherhood I had on the line and am prepping for SFAS this spring. I came on here to find out info and what is going on in the special forces community and hear what people have to say about the different MOS jobs. I have an uncle who is an 18E and has been pushing me that way, but I think I am more Charlie material. My biggest thing I cam onto this site for was to find a mentor. If anyone out there would like to be a mentor, I work hard and would find the time to learn what I need to learn. Thanks.

Hello, my name's Anthony, I'm 30 years old from Cullman ,AL. I'm a drafter/designer with an associates degree. I've been a member here for a little while now and have always enjoyed reading up on what it takes to be a Special Forces soldier. The information that can be found here is great, it's straight and to the point. I have always tried my best to apply the things I've learned here to other areas of my life.
Hello All,
My name is Cory Smith i am from a small town in Mississippi, I have prior service in the Marine Corps. Served from 04-08, did one tour to Iraq in 07 with a Securtiy Company attached to CLB-4 from Okinawa. I discovered this website randomly while surfing the web. What caught my Attention was the letter that was written in regards to the Second Amendment with 1,100 SF Soldiers signitures. After reading i passed as many copies as i could out among the civilian popualtion. Hopefully it will open the eyes of the people of this Great Nation.

Hello all, just finished the Q. 18B.
Greetings!
My name is Ben. I am a mechanical engineer from Oregon. I do not have any military experience. I did my engineering degree because I was planning on trying to become a Naval pilot (they require a technical degree), but my vision turned out to not be good enough and I was not interested in being a sailor so I ended up staying out and becoming an engineer.
I primarily joined this site because I read everything I can Spec Ops related. I know you guys have a tough job, but you get to do some of the coolest stuff I can imagine (jumping out of planes, shooting bad-ass guns and hunting enemies of our country). I am friends with a former Ranger and I press him pretty often for combat stories. I love to hear them.
The second reason I joined is because I am trying to start a company (using my engineering experience) to make gear for the military and for the special forces community. I already have a prototype of my first product. My Ranger buddy (he was a squad-designated marksman) thinks it might be good for snipers. Hopefully I can learn some of your needs and gear issues that I can work on. My name is referencing "Q" from the Bond movies. That is kind of what I hope to do eventually.
I am mostly here to learn so I probably will not post a whole lot. If I can contribute I will. If anybody has any engineering kinds of questions then feel free to PM me.
Hello everybody,
I found this forum a few weeks ago and am excited to read through it. I am currently studying engineering as a freshman at Virginia Tech and hoping to major in Civil. I am interested in a career in the military immediately after college. At the moment I am putting all my effort into school, fitness, and making the most I possibly can out of my college career.

Howdy,
My name's PrimalAndrew or West; whichever you prefer is fine by me. I joined this site a while back when I first began training myself physically and mentally for the Army. Since first joining, I've gained a large variety of solid, reliable knowledge from Quiet Professionals in just about every subject I could ask for.
As I increase my PT, I will also strive to better myself mentally- in part by using this site to my advantage. I hope someday soon I'll have something of my own that's true, measured, and valuable to contribute to this site. Until then it's going to be, focus on the 25M target and be the best damn sponge I can be.
I'm a fun-loving kind of man who takes pride in being a good leader, laughing a lot, and following the advice my great grandfather said to me a long time ago when I was just a boy.
My grandfather called me into his study one muggy evening and told me to sit in the chair opposite to him; that he didn't have much time left in his life and wanted to share with me the best advice he could muster. He gazed out the large window pane that sat in front of us- overlooking the afternoon's grey beach weather. After several moments of silence, he turned his head to the right; shifted his eyes at me and said: "You can see a lot by just listening."
Thank you to the QP's and Admin's that run this site.
It is appreciated.

Hi gentlemen,
I'm an active duty MI officer. I've worked with a number of ODAs downrange (OEF) and greatly respect the capability and enthusiasm you boys bring to the fight. There's a good chance I've been in the back of a Blackhawk with a few of you fine soldiers, so cheers.
I'm only here to make a quick post regarding an error about Army documents I've noticed during the (rightful) crucifixion of poseurs in the "Hall of Shame". Then back to lurking.
Take care, fellas.

Hello everyone,
My name is Parker (Shawn is my middle name). I would like to join the Special Forces because I believe it will provide me with many personal growth opportunities and because I would like to possess skills which will allow me to help defend freedom in an increasingly-oppressive world.
For now, I am simply working to improve myself until the day when I am ready to join the Special Forces.

Hi, I'm Chris, I just wanted to introduce myself to all of the members and QP's on the forums. I'd also like to say thank you to everyone involved on this site, so much useful information on here! I'm 22, I work full time testing electronics, go to school part time(two to three classes a semester), I've always tried to keep up with my PT since my brief time in the Army in 2011. I attended BCT at Fort Sill,OK as a 68W, unfortunately I developed pneumonia in both my lungs and it was severe enough to be rushed to the hospital where I laid in my hospital bed for two weeks. While I was in the hospital I spent most of my time reading my Warrior book, writing letters and using the phone while I had access to that privilege. Upon returning to my platoon on the final day of rifle qualification day, I qualified with an un-zeroed weapon, never having any rifle training with a 27/40. Probably one of my greatest memories was my Drill Sgt. telling me afterwards that he was impressed by my results, telling me "Yesterday all of the Drill Sgt.'s qualified with un-zeroed weapons, you might be a future Drill Sgt. one day." I smiled saying " No Drill Sgt. I have enough trouble being a Pvt."
To make the rest of my story shorter I'll skip ahead to my final PT test. I failed the final PT test by roughly sixteen seconds. Then I reported to the FOB with the rest of my platoon, I then marched the 16k event knowing I would be sent home, as the CO and I had already discussed it. I finished the 16K with my platoon, they dawned their berets and we went to our bay. Everyone was screaming and celebrating I sat on my bunk and it hit me, "I'm going home," is what I was thinking and the weight of it really hit me like a freight train.
I learned a lot about myself those three and a half months, I learned that I don't like to lose and that I wont quit. I learned that you can go into BCT running two miles in 27 minutes, doing 17 push-ups and 13 sit-ups then come out doing 58 push-ups, 55 sit-ups, and running two miles in 16:52. I told this story in my introduction so that any other members on here planning to join the Armed Forces, can maybe learn from my experience that failure as discouraging as it may be, is a great learning experience, just keep moving and drive on.
I joined this site because I plan on re-enlisting in my future so I'm exploring all of my options. The 18X route seems challenging and something I'd like to try to earn. I'd like to make a career out of SF just because I feel like it would bring out the best in me and I would be able to look in the mirror and be proud of myself, and hopefully my son could look at me and say " that's my dad, he's in the Army." I want to show my son that life is hard but you can do whatever you want as long as you put in the effort and learn from everything you do. Thanks for reading, have a nice day everyone, Hooah! Also anyone looking to join the Army, I'd be more than willing to share more of my experience of BCT with you, but that is all I can help you with.
Howdy,
My name is Barry. I'm a refinery process operator, and I live near Tulsa, OK.
I have no military experience. I'm here to gain knowledge and learn. Hopefully, I can contribute in some way, but I will mostly just lurk.
Thank you for everything I've already learned!

good after noon admin and users. I am looking for some basic tips for building a local team of individual. A group that can work together as well as solo, i want them to blend onto there AO, taking in all they can from the people and events around them. They should be "teachers and students" able to lead a group through a task if needed or sit watch a listen.
This group would be called upon in time of disaster and unrest in the places we live. This group has already taken shape in a raw form. The core group of individuals is comprised of soldiers and retires soldiers from the national guard. We all have a higher level of tactical understanding and training, always learning and adapting new methods. An area i think we could use direction would be the psychological aspect of gaining civilians trust and getting them to want to protect them selves, So when if the social structure collapses around us and we need to rebuild, or remove the problems.
Do you have and input on what areas should be focused on or new things to consider? and where the info could be found.
SIM Team leader.
I am a retired 18A, and heard about Quiet Professionals from a friend. It seems to be a good way to stay connected to the Special Forces community. Feel free to contact me.

Thank you for allowing me access to your site. I've spent a few hours over the past 72 reading through several postings and getting to know the rules for posting and the role of a visitor like myself.
I am 50 years old and served in the U.S. Army from 1983-1994. I actually started my military service after high school when I went to Georgia Military College and was a cadet in the two year commissioning program. I graduated with an AS Degree in Engineering (mostly math and science courses) and was commissioned a 2LT. I then went to Florida State University for a year until my funds ran out. While in school that year, I served as an Infantry Platoon Leader in the Florida Army National Guard in Tallahassee, FL. A close friend of mine's Father was an Army recruiter and I discussed my options of entering on active duty, We discussed several options and I elected to sign a contract which would put me through 91B school, then Airborne school and enrollment in the SFQC for 18D. I graduated from 300-F1 in January of 85 and went to Fort Bragg to start MedLab and continue with the Q course. In between the end of studies at Fort Sam and arrival back at Bragg, I got married to an active duty 91B that was stationed at Fort Hood, TX. Got to Bragg, waited several months for an available MedLab slot with the rest of my group of trainees. We spent the "down time" doing PT, taking EMT and Trauma and Triage classes, doing Land Nav out near Texas Pond (and the porta potty dump site!), etc. I finally got to Med Lab and enjoyed every minute of it. Doing a necropsy on a goat, killing and eating our own chicken for lunch in the compound, and the various other fun times was fantastic. But...I made a decision that would haunt me for the rest of my time in service. After discussions with my new wife on many occasions, I decided to voluntarily withdraw from the Q course just prior to finishing Med Lab. I took a joint domicile assignment at Fort Hood, TX and was put into a Mechanized Infantry unit. This was the time frame when they had split 91B into 91A and 91B. I was an E4 at the time of arrival and was kept a 91B since I had taken the Special Operation Medical NCO Course. I got promoted to E5 in the secondary zone and was the only E4 91B on the list. I re-enlisted for duty stabilization at my home base and a very good bonus. That lasted a year before I got orders to go to the Sinai with the Multinational Force and Observers Logistical Support Unit as a Flight Medic. Served as the NCOIC for the flight medical detachment for a 12 month tour. I requested to be returned to Bragg and got orders to a FAST Team (which was a fairly new concept at the time). My orders got rescinded and I got extended an additional two months and got new orders to report to the Army School of Aviation Medicine at Fort Rucker, AL as an instructor. I had been before the promotion board while in the Sinai and got promoted to E6 (once again in the secondary zone and there were only 3 on the list that time) shortly after arriving in Alabama. I worked as an instructor in Aviation Medicine, went to the Air Force School for Hypo/Hyperbaric technicians as well. I took the FAST screening test and got a slot in Flight School and graduated in 1990 as a UH-1 pilot. I went directly to a UH-60 transition and was supposed to be assigned to a unit that was in Kuwait. Orders got changed and I was sent to Germany to a unit supporting the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. Flew a bunch of missions from Cyprus to Beirut for two years then came back to Fort Hood, TX and worked in airfield operations until time for me to leave the service. I got out in 1994, worked in the computer field for a year then took a job with the U.S Postal Service where I could add my military time to my new Federal job benefits. I'm currently a Postmaster in a small rural community.
My medical training in Fort Sam and Fort Bragg made me a much better medic than many of my contemporaries. To this day, I still remember quite a bit of it. My doctor asked me if I was a veterinarian or a nurse the first time he met me since I was so well versed in Anatomy & Physiology and diagnostic skills.
Although I never made it into the ranks of our outstanding "Quiet Professionals", I still to this day feel a bond with all of you. I applaud your service and dedication to our country. It's an honor to come back and read up on all the new things that have happened in the past 25+ years and bear witness to the best soldiers in the world doing what they do. Congratulations on an outstanding site!

Hello there,
I have been in the Army for nearly two years and I think it finally time to try for what I have always wanted deep down. When I originally joined the Army, the MOS choices that I wanted were not open, so I took something local in the Reserves until I could get my G.E.D. upgraded to a full diploma, as well as adding some college credits onto that. No more "profile" units where a good amount of lazy soldiers make it by on their profiles that they do not need. No more lax rules, no more non enforced discipline for my unit SOP. No more taking it easy....I want more.
I want to try something that I have always felt a calling for deep down. Not simply something that I wanted to do. This is something that I know I have to try out for. I've looked at many options in the Army before deciding to enlist as 18X, and I also have talked to many people as well. I have been to these forums quite often, and have read them many times even before creating my account here.
I have had several Special Operations men, and a former SF guy teach me some PT tricks...but I know that the ultimate success or failure lies within how much I am willing to push. So I have come forward to try this since this seems to be a calling for me. I was never satisfied elsewhere, but I feel satisfied now as an 18X. I'm mostly here to read, maybe ask a few questions, and then I only plan to come back and give advice IF I earn the right to do so.
Hey guys; My name is Daniel, and I am currently a senior in high school. I am seriously considering Special Forces as a career after college. I have always greatly admired the military and I hope to learn a lot here

I'm a 25 year-old theology graduate student at a Catholic university here in Milwaukee. I studied philosophy and religion in my undergrad at a University of Wisconsin school. So this means, at the very least, I am book-smart ;) . I have an 18x contract already. My step-grandfather served in the Vietnam War as an Army Special Forces soldier; he was in MACV-SOG. So in some sense, I would like to carry the torch.
Physically, I'm a gym-rat who used to run cross-country and track in HS (and a year in college). Since running didn't really pan out I hit the weights. Despite that (I now weigh 190 lbs at 6' from 160 lbs), running was and always will be my strong suit. To give you all an idea, I was still able to break a 5-minute mile during the Army PT. I'm hoping this translates well into a good ruck! Still, I'm somewhat afraid that lifting too much weights will put me at a disadvantage at SFAS, though. I have something of an addiction to lifting weights for size. Then again, it's not all just for decoration; I've maxed the Army PT scores.
What else? Initially, I wanted to join Air Force pararescue, but I did not meet the vision requirements. My eyes are something like 20/200 and 20/100. I was surprised (pleasantly, so) to see that I could meet the Army Special Forces vision requirements. I never really thought of SF until recently; perhaps my aversion was due to the mystique and aura surrounding my grandfather that led me to unconsciously believe that SF was somehow "beyond me" or "superhuman." I put plenty of thought and prayer into it, and swore in with the 18x contract.
In the meanwhile I will be lurking and reading.

Actually, it doesn't. It just means you're a grad student.

Thank you QP's for all your service and this site. These forums are a goldmine for aspiring SF guys.
I'm 27 non-prior service and work in NYC working in sales for a technology start-up firm. I'm relentlessly pursuing a rep63 contract in a nearby state. I feel that serving your country, people and helping others to the highest capacity is my calling. I want to learn from and work with some of the best and brightest and SF is exactly this.

Gentlemen,
I am an 18 year old college student and ROTC cadet. I have read many times on these forums that "SF is a calling." I hear that calling and look forward to answering it.
Thank you in advance for all the knowledge bestowed; past, present, and future.
Very respectfully,

Hello everyone. My name is Nate.
I've been in the NG for a few years now. Being an Infantryman in the NG just wasn't cutting it for me personally. I saw an opportunity to go 18x, given that I was looking into active duty, and went for it. My conditional release has been approved, and I have a ship date.
All I have left to say is I'm grateful this site has been provided by members of the SF community, and I've already delved into the the wide array of wisdom it holds. I probably won't post much, but let my gratitude for America's fighting men be known.
Thanks again! :lifter

Hello my names Keelan Oleary, based out of Wichita Ks. I am a prospective 18x cantidate awaiting my shipout date of May 28th.
Howdy All,
I'm Rey, I graduate in may from Texas A&M, I've been in ROTC for 4 years and I am pursuing an 18x contract.
Thank you guys for the hard work in maintaining this site, because it really has been a tangible resource. It's taken me a whole year to decide to make an account after looking at y'alls threads and getting my questions answered by the people who have walked the path before me(most of the time incorrectly so).

Came across the site while reading about SF posers.
I am a former 18D was stationed in Okinawa on ODA-124 and 113 1994-97. Before that I was an 11B at 1/75 Ranger Rgt. and then 124th MI (LRSD) 24th ID. 1988-1992.
Good to be among like minded folks.
Hi,
I am a 25 year old social studies teacher and I have been interested in SF for a few months. I have used this site and got a lot out of it. I told my recruiter yesterday that I wanted to join 18x, and he informed me that the option is closed. I was kind of bummed, and he told me I need to join with opt 40 for RASP and then I should get my ranger tab and then apply for SFAS. Should I wait for a while and see if 18x opens up, or should I go the path my recruiter recommended? Thanks for any help.

Seeing how people under 17 are discouraged to post, I plan on taking that advice and sticking to reading. I might as well make this introduction thoughtful though.
I am currently a Sophomore enrolled in a New england high school. I have a fulfilling social life and recreationally train in both Boxing and Jiu-Jitsu. While planning and prepping for SF aren’t my only pastimes, I feel it’s best for me to add some into my schedule so I have a better chance of competing against the standards.
When I read how some of the Quiet Professionals on here have had Special forces call to them, it really hits home with me. Since first grade, I’ve always wanted to serve in the Military, whenever we had to do a essay about what we wanted to do when we grew up, that’s what I would write about. I’ve been so blessed to be born into a family that’s done well for themselves financially. On the flipside of that, I’ve had everything in life handed to me, and that’s not the life I want to live. I’m sick of entitlement, no longer do I want to just receive, I want to sacrifice, earn, and give back to the country that has given me so much. My way is not the only way, others may want to not sacrifice, and I respect and understand their choice. I would be willing to sacrifice my life for them to have the freedom to follow their dreams. I want to endure for those who cannot and those who will not endure.
My only fear is not making the cut. I understand it is about the team, and not the individual, so I fear breaking at the worst possible time and letting those to my left and right down. I am by no means a special snowflake, I’m not the biggest guy, strongest, smartest, nor the toughest. However I’d be damned, and would never sleep right, if I did not pour all of my energy and heart into my goals and give it a shot.
In regards to mental preparedness, I've read “Message to Garcia”, “Art of war” (planning on re reading it later on in highschool, I dont have the intellectual capacity to grasp the concepts yet.) and “Warrior ethos”. I plan on getting “Get Selected!” and “Chosen Soldier”, after those two I’ll spend some more time lurking in the search box and see what else is recommended. I am hoping to find some suggestions and tips on how to mentally test myself before going in.
I realize I am still just a kid, I certainly have more than a handful of misconceptions, arrogance, and other flaws. However through my initiative and some criticisms from the QP’s I hope I can address all of it. I am very hopeful to be able to draw on some of the life experience of soldiers and older members.
My deepest thanks to all of you for your service.

Hello,
I came across this site when conducting research on the author of Fading Photographs of My Mind's Own Album (Namvet newsletter n.99) for my wife's bachelor's degree project. I'm spaniard and professionally dedicated to public relations and as a part time musician (rock and roll days are gone).
Kind regards,

Hello;
I am a 21 year old and have done PSYOP since I enlisted. Ever since I finished training at Ft. Bragg I wanted to do SF, and was able to have the pleasure of supporting an ODA on my deployment. My time with that team only solidified my wanting to do something greater.
Currently, I'm planning to see myself at SFAS within a year. It's been a goal for me since 2009, and I want to properly prepare myself as best I can, both physically and mentally.
Thanks again for what y'all do.

To the Green Beret, I would like to Thank each and every one of you who signed . It makes me proud to be an American and it gives me hope that this land of the brave will always be the home of the Free. I am greatful to have many Patriot friends, the ones I know and the ones I will never know. I have family and friends who have served this Country. I have never liked how our Brave Warriors have been treated in the past and I would like to change that. I propose that all vets and active duty be treated at any hospital or docter that they choose and uncle sam will pay for it. I would like to honor your service by punishing those who steal your honor. I know some might not like the word hero applied to them, but you are America's Heros and without our brave men this country is doomed. De Oppresso Liber

Hey everyone,
I spent my years after high school in the Navy working on the now defunct HVBSS teams, as well as conducting small unit security missions and firearms training. After leaving the military I received a BA and BS in criminal justice and law enforcement from a university in Minnesota.
Currently I am finishing up a Masters degree in terrorism and security at King's College London in the UK where I will be writing my dissertation on the use of special operations forces in the war on terror.
I am also in the process of looking for jobs and I'm considering returning to the military as an officer, most likely with Army as I can't imagine myself working on a ship. Thank you for allowing me to use this forum and I look forward to future conversations.

I'm a prior-service Marine and I'm training hard to prepare myself physically and mentally for SFAS. I've been doing a ton of reading here on PS and I would like to say thank you to all the current and former SOF personnel that are helping hopeful candidates like myself prepare for what may lie ahead. I know that until I earn the title, my job is to keep my mouth shut and listen to the advise given by those who have earned it. That being said, any and all advice or information anyone is willing to give is more than appreciated.

My name is Brent and I'm a former 13D with an ASI of L7. I did 4 years with 1/25 SBCT out of Wainwright with a deployment to Iraq in 08-09. My family has military in it in about every generation and that's why I chose to volunteer.
As for this board, my buddy informed me of its existence when he registered as a QP because he knew I was in and that I collect U.S. military items dating back to at least the Civil War. I'm currently in the process of collecting a lot of multicam uniforms/patches and theater made stuff, because once we're out of there, there wont be any more.
I'm hoping to learn a lot from the board, and to not ask stupid questions. Ya'll are truly America's finest, and I'm proud to be in your presence.

Hey all,
Jake here. I'm a military contractor/linguist here in Afghanistan. I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life when I'm done with this gig.
I’ve been blessed with a great job and great experiences for a young guy. It has put me in a place where I can now go do what I want—serve my country—without worrying about some of the sacrifices that might come along with it. I don’t know what avenue I’ll choose for my service, but I consider SF a great option and this website a great resource.
I've got loads of questions, but I’ve been reading posts on here for enough months to know that I had better not ask out on the forums for now. If my questions have been asked and I somehow missed it… the chewing follows without fail.

(Not really true. Interest on withdrawals is collected from future contributions to the data base - paying it forward. You probably overlooked that because it's an understood part of a QP's duty description. ;) Peregrino)

Hello and thank you for allowing me to be a part of this forum. I am a "middle aged" California attorney with a wife and kid in college. But in my prior life 1980' I was a medic 1/325 82nd. I spent my entire time at Bragg, no deployments :-(. What can I say, I was a "Reagan era soldier." I am privileged to be a part of this forum, because it was my dream to be an 18d. I was born to be a medic. I have been making first aid kits since I was 10 and I just turned 50. I enlisted from Florida with a friend I played HS FB with, on the "buddy program." Remember that, where they keep you together all through PP? Well, at the AFEES station in Jacksonville, we both took tests, and they told me they had one 18d slot. They offered the contract to me, not my buddy though.. Ultimately, I decided to stay with my bud and go 82d medic. Seemed like the fair thing since I talked him into joining with me in the 1st place, and hey 82nd Airborne -All The Way, and then some!! So, ultimately I never got to go after the 18d dream. But I spent 3-great years just down the street from delta and group and made plenty of medic friends in the 82nd who were ex-18d. All characters for sure. One just couldn't stay out of fights at the dragon club, and the other failed GLab. Thanks for keeping the dream alive through your posts . -Dave

Hello,
Looks like my original introduction got lost. My name is TJ and I'm a 3rd Group 18A, post team time and currently working for NSOCC-A downrange. I was a prior Artillery guy and spent all my time in the 82nd. My language is Pashto and has been useful more times than I can count.
If there's anything else, just ask. Rarely will I post but I do enjoy taking in all the information here. If anyone else is here and wants to chat over a cigar let me know!

Hello Gents,
My name is Rob, and I have been serving in the Army reserve as a medic (now as a 12N) for 4 years. At the beginning of my military career I was quite naive. After some time I realized that this was my career and if didn't take hold of it, it would be one joke of a career. Once I came to decision that the Army is what I loved, and that if I'm going to do this I'm going all the way. So Special Forces became my choice. Unfortunately being married and a father the decision was not just my own and had to be worked through to ease the stress off my family along with humps along the way. In that time I have missed the window for prior service to grab an 18x contract. So hear I am a year and half later posting for the first time hoping to find a solution.
On another note I'd like to thank all of you QP's past and present for your wisdom and generosity in allowing us the privilege to be apart such a forum.
Thank you.

Greetings to all. My happiest days were serving with Special Forces. I started out in A Co. 1st Bn. 5th Gp at Bragg in 1972. Then spent a year in Thailand with USASFT on SF Tm 42 (FREEDOM RUNNER) and then SF Tm 44 (HALO) w/ CPT Mike Taylor and MSG Joel Schenckleberger and SFC Sammy Hernadez. Stayed until they deactivated us in March of '74. Best bunch of soldiers I served with in 24 years. Saw a bunch of really old timers last Summer at the 60th Anniversary here in Fayetteville. I am now a Retired LTC and presently serving as a GS type at FORSCOM HQ.

Jake,
If you're going to make it in SF, or any other Field, there are a few lessons you need to learn RIGHT NOW:
1). Grow another layer of skin! Don't let a few harsh words or criticism get to you. It auin't personal. If it is yoiu'll know it. Team Sgts, and most Sr NCOs as well as some good officers, don't mince words. We expect you to listen, learn and perform
2). If you have a legitimate Q - ask it. Do your home work fist but never hesitate to ask. Institutional knowledge and know how are in the head's of those their now. The only way to learn is to ask. If some blow hard gives you a ration because your Q was asked and answered 2 years ago, ask where to find and move on. Again, it isn't personal
3) Don't be afraid od failure (except with jumps, divesn explosives and incoming). The best way to learn is from experience. Experience is surviving failure and learning not to repeat it again
4) Never, ever make an excuse! Do you undersdtand that? No Excuses Period.
There are two fundamental reasons why that maxim needs to be engrained in your Psyche; a) you can get a result or an excuse. Never both as they are dytnometrically oppsed. B) Excuses piss - off every decent SF operator, NCO's and Officers.
If you think you know what a bad day looks like you don't have any idea what it's like to be on the receiving end of a truly Pissed SF NCO, especially the Team Sgt and. XO or CO
Jake, take this to heart and tyou'll do well. Just remember, whever's jumping on your ruck puts his pants on the same way you do.
One last point, if you've already mastered the Language and have a burning desire to become SF qualified you'll do well

Good Morning All,
Just signed my 18X contract and took the oath yesterday. I've been browsing these forums for quite some time now and am very thankful to have a resource such as PS.com that has been unbelievably helpful in my journey up to this point. I have no doubts that it will only become more beneficial as I move along the pipeline and with that said I'd like to thank everyone who contributes to the wealth of knowledge that these forums hold.
Regards,

I'm an 18D in 3rd Group. I joined this site a long time ago, but it fell to the wayside somewhere over the course of the past few years. The posting of the IED news article in the general forum was brought to my attention recently and suddenly I remembered I was a member of this site! I plan on frequenting these forums much more often in the future.

Hello I'm Marco 25yrs old i've been in the military 6 yrs as a 91B. I grew interest on SF after working on small teams doing 11b job on 2 deployments. I've been thru SFAS once in 2012(fell off on week 2) and im looking to go back better prepare, more knoledgeable and definitely more mature.
What i look foward in this site is to acquire more knowledge to improve in any field that i need to better myself and one day become a QP.

I served with the Cav in Afghanistan 04-05 and met some of the most incredible people people in my life in that place. It was no coincidence that some belonged to the U.S. Special Forces.
"Be the grey man, and just listen." Some advice from an unknown Special Forces Sgt. that remains with me.
An 18D diagnosed a medical condition for me that was life threatening. It took eight hours later and an exploratory surgery for the MD's to confirm his diagnosis.
This is a fantastic springboard for communication between the SF community and the people that often know very little about what they do. I consider myself one of them, and honored to join the conversation.
Respectfully,
FrankCator
Hello, my name is Dean. I've been a member of site for a long time really just to read. I never posted an Intro, because I was never planning on posting anything. But I am 21 now, and considering joining a branch of the military with hopes at trying for a Special Operation job. I'm still undecided on a branch at this time but have given it a lot of thought and have narrowed my options to Army or Navy. So I decided to post my introduction, and am starting to actively read a lot of post with hopes of helping my decision.
I wanted to thank the Professional Solders staff for making this site available to us prospecting hopefuls. These forums I've come across the last few years has really helped me find answers to a lot of questions. We all are making big decisions that will impact our life and loved ones, and this leads to a lot of questions. Thank you for making it easy to get those questions answered.

Hi, I'm Bill Burt (a variation of my shooting alias). I'm a former USN submariner and current high school teacher. I heard about your forum on the SASSNET.com/forums website. SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) is a group that shoots 19th century design firearms using cowboy themed alias. As you might expect many members are current/former law enforcement and/or military.
This looks like an interesting website, I'll probably lurk and read for a while before I have anything to say.
Thanks,

Greetings all,
If I may, Id like to begin my introduction by offering my deepest gratitude for the service of all you QP's, and for your willingness to pass on your knowledge to the rest of us.
With that being said, I have been lurking on this forum for a month or so now and recently joined in order to make use of the search function. I have gained quite a bit of insight during my brief time here and look forward to gaining much more.
As my profile suggests, I am 25 years old and a recent college graduate. I have an obsession with the outdoors, which just so happens to be where I feel most at home. I take pride in my accomplishments and strive to learn from my failures.
Again, I would like to thank you for allowing me to be a guest of your site and I will take care to respect your house.
Sincerely,
Rob
Hello everyone!
A little bit about me: I'm currently a student with 2 semesters left at the University of MN. I play center for the football team and have been doing so for the past 4yrs. Its been the greatest experience of my life so far, i've learned so many lessons that will follow me for the rest of my life.
Ever since I was a young boy I have always been fascinated with the militaries best forces ranging from SF to SEALs. This interest has for a long time gave me a desire to enlist and try to become one of the elite operators that i have looked up to for years. Only until recently has this desire become very real to me because for most of my life football has been number 1 in my life and afforded me great opportunities that I could not pass up but now with my career winding down and college coming to an end I am forced like all college students are to find something that they are going to do for the rest of their lives. I thought about what I wanted in a career and what would make me happy, what would push me and continue to make me grow as a person, and ultimately what would quench my thirst to help make this world a better place place for all to live. I knew there were few things that would afford me all of these things I want but one career path kept consistently popping up to me and that is the path of an SF soldier.
With all that being said Im not sure what will come to me in the future, maybe I'll find that a career as a soldier, specifically an SF soldier is not for me. But for that very reason I have joined this forum, so I can learn from men who have done what interests me so much and so I can ask questions to decide without a doubt I have the desire and commitment it would take to pursue this career path.
Thank you for allowing me to join! I respect all of you on this forum that have served this country and look forward to learning from you all with an open heart, mind and ears.

Former Army communications (31F). Currently I am a game warden in Fl, and I am a TACP in the MS ANG. I am slotted to go to JTAC-QC very soon. I spent a year in the SOT-D program in FL, and I have been thinking of going back after gaining JTAC cert.

Greetings gents. I am currently retired after 27 year of service, mostly as an 18E with 3rd BN, 10th SF. Started my time with the team in the early 90s at Ft. Devens, MA. I currently teach search and recovery operatios as a civilian contractor. Is good to see the interest young people show on our prefession in this page.
Hello all, I'm Swerley. I'm currently a Junior in college studying Computer Science (hence why I like g33k stuff in my profile). I've been a runner my whole life and love working out. Needless to say I made some large decisions this past year, and I decided that I would like to join the special forces. It's a long story I won't gruel you with.
I plan on graduating a semester early which means that this summer I will be looking to sign the 18x contract. Actually just caught up with my recruiter a couple days ago and everything is still in check. I've been reading the forums here, getting tips, and learn more every day. Thanks for providing a great service!
Hello,
I am currently enlisted in the Alabama National Guard and was waiting to ship to 11b OSUT basic training and head to my unit with the 167th infantry regiment in May until I tore my ACL and Meniscus. I just had surgery done this morning and start rehab monday. There is a six month waiting period till I can be cleared to ship again. Till then I plan to use this time to rehab hard and use the site to gain knowledge from all the Quiet Professionals on the site.
Thanks,
CC

Currently, I'm in the process of getting loose ends tied up and affairs in order. I've learned a lot from the information shared on this forum, thanks to the Quiet Professionals for taking the time to pass it along.

My name's Will, I'm an 18 year old Australian student, finishing school in June, after that, I plan to enlist as a rifleman (grunt) and if all goes well, I may one day hope to join the ranks of the SASR. I currently train towards this goal for about two hours almost every day.

We'll all I just wanted to give my intro this morning. First off my name is Eric. I worked as a support guy while on active duty with 3rd for 3 deployments. Joined SF in the Guard, deployed again and then went to the Q. Finished that up and went to dive school and I am just finishing up a deployment with the dive team as an 18C. So if there are any questions maybe I can help out.
I'm Jim.
I found this site while browsing for pro-2nd amendment editorials. I'm a product engineer at a hydraulics company. I have never served in the military, but I have friends and relatives who have served. I'm mainly here just to read, but I might post an occasional question or brief commentary - I recognize that I'm a guest.

After three years in the Reserve, I decided it was time to do something more meaningful. I just enlisted in the 1/19th, and am currently doing all I can to get into and through the pipeline.
Looks like there is a lot of good information here, and I'm thrilled to start getting up to speed.
I'm pretty sure I introduced myself some time ago, but as I see no record of it I decided it was better to be safe than sorry, and I am introducing myself for what might be the second time.
I am an E-4 in the NC ARNG, and I am a graduate student.
I'm hoping to have the chance to attend selection soon.
Thanks to all of you for your service, and for providing such a valuable resource in this website.

Hello, long time guest new member. I'm 27, Currently on a Hotshot Crew (Fire) with the USFS in California. I've been researching SF for awhile, looking for a new challenge. As a Hotshot I'm gone traveling the west at various large campaign wildfires all summer long but the good thing is we have a pretty serious PT program on and off the road, We ruck almost everywhere, and the only thing to do on the road is read. I've found a wealth of information here on the boards and with whatever recommended reading I can find, Including; Get Selected, Chosen Soldier, The Only Thing Worth Dying For, Roughneck Nine-One and currently starting "Masters of Chaos". My goals for the summer are to find a good recruiter and possibly an SF mentor. I'm hoping to start the pipeline between Dec 2013/Jan 2014. I won't be doing much posting so thanks in advance for providing the information on this forum. It truly is great.

Good Day All!!
I have not been in this site for a while, so I decided to re-introduce myself.
Did the whole Officer thing, MI branch, been gone on training and TDYs.
I was introduced to this site when I was in a GRP in FL. As a reservist now, I want to go to SFAS instead of my MI CCC. Hopefully I can figure out how to do that, network, and more on this site. Have seen alot of knowledgeable guys on here, good stuff.
Memories leading an NQP team doing a "snake" run, made me tuck my balls in a bit as I got called out, ha!:
"Who said hooah!? who said hooah?!!, no one says hooah here!!, only people who say hooah are people that lack motiviation! you dont need hooah for motiviation, it comes from within you! now shut the F#$ Up and move it!"

My name is Matt. I am currently Active Duty Army EOD serving in Afghanistan.I've been in the Army for 6 years. My prior MOS was communications in 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division.
I came here looking for information about Special Forces as I am going to attend SFAS after this deployment. I've been given a lot of the normal mystique and myth surrounding Special Forces, but I just want to make the most informed decision possible. Also, I figured this would be a community to offer a slice of "Humble Pie" and a reality check if needed.

I am 17 years old with aspirations to become a SF soldier. I would like to be an 18 Bravo, but I would certainly be happy with another other MOS. I love my country, my firearms, and my motorcycles.
Thank yall for having me, and thanks for your service.
Hello everyone.
Did 4 years in the reserves, and have been lurking this forum for a little over 2. Was fortunate enough to get a release and will be shipping out as an 18x in the coming weeks. I look forward to the opportunity to serve with you fine soldiers.

Hello,
I am a 30 year old active duty Air Force member, originally from Upstate NY. I am currently deployed and working in a logistics career field. I have a bachelors degree with a major in History, minor in German Language. I am fluent in German, and also was a 4 year division I basketball player. During this deployment I am going to begin a masters degree in Intelligence Studies. I have lived and worked in Germany and Austria, as a civilian, working at a vineyard during my time in Germany. I chose to join the military a bit later in life, because I wanted a new challenge/adventure. I am interested in joining Army SF in the national guard. I joined this site, as a result of a family member of mine. who was an SF operator, recommending that I could gather some good information and advice here. I am looking forward to learning from this site. I have alot of respect for all past and present Special Operations soldiers, and hope to become one sometime in the near future.
