Hi, I'm 22 years old, PA National Guard, 11b re-classing as a 35m. I've wanted to be a Special Forces soldier for a long, long time. I'm here to learn about SF in general but especially about getting into SF in the Guard. Still trying to update my profile but when I enter the info and try to save it, it won't stick. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I'm currently a finance/film major. As of yet no plans to join the army but I exercise a lot and stay focused to keep my options open. I am planning on getting my concealed soon supplemented with some tactics and land nav courses from a retired green beret. I want to write some military scripts and I've always found the special forces really interesting and impressive. I love intelligence too so I'm looking to learn in case I have a change of heart or just want to use the knowledge for a script.
Hey all,
Sorry for posting this a little late but I'm a recent college graduate in the process of trying to get a rep 63 contract and enlisting. Hoping to read and learn from the people on this site as I get ready for this endeavor
Greetings to everyone, Ive been on the site for awhile and decided it was time to introduce myself enlisted in the army in 2004 as a 12B, attended the SFQC in 2009 graduated as an 18D and was assigned to 5th in 2011, still on the same team. Always enjoy using this site as a resource and look forward to the conversations and knowledge of the group.

Greetings to all in the SF community it is truly a privilege to be in this circle of past and present "QP's". You continue to maintain a history of excellence by recruiting, producing and mentoring a unique breed of SF Soldier(s) for the future. Thank you for accepting my membership. Currently deployed my AOC QM/LOG, slotted as DET CDR, our special mission continues to teach me tremendously about unconventional warfare, the decisions made are not from lessons taught in a school house, Journal, or AR-FM. Its either you have the natural ability to defuse or neutralize potentially tense conflict situation, or you don't. While some skill-set takes time to develop for some I truly understand, when "QP" member said "Its a total package the community is looking for." I look forward to many healthy discussions and mentorship from "QP" IOT enhance my profession not as a leader, but a servant to those I'm leading, for they (Soldier) determine if i'm a leader.

Hello all. Prior service active duty Marine (2004 to 2008) with two Iraq deployments here. Graduated college, learned Russian, and am finally looking to pursue the dream to become a Special Forces soldier via 18X program. I wish I did it earlier, but better late than never! I look forward to learning as much as I can from this site.

Hello,
I am a student who is considering pursuing an 18x contract when I become age eligible. I would like to serve my country, and I greatly respect the men and the mission of the Special Forces. I joined the site to learn and seek advice.
Thank you for your service.
Hello, I've been a member for a few years and never posted an intro. I'm currently a student at IBOLC and am due to attend Ranger School in January. This site is a great source of info and I look forward to continue learning from here.

Hey everyone,
Prior service Hospital Corpsman with 5 1/2 years in and two deployments to Iraq. Been out for five years, stayed busy, but never lost the "service bug." This finds me currently in the process of joining the MDNG. 20th SFG hopeful. Attending the next prior service SF briefing on the 6th in Glen Arm. Probably gonna get pretty good to go information from that brief, but any guidance from the BTDT's on this forum would be tremendously appreciated. Look forward to talking with you all.

First, thank you to the creators of this site. I've found it to be very informative and inspiring. Soldiers, past and present, thank you for your service and sacrifices.
I am a 23 year old 13 F PFC currently stationed with 2-82 FA, 1st Cav at Ft. Hood. I am currently working on preparing for SFAS but cannot begin SFQC until September 2014 because I just PCS'd here last month. I spent 12 years living in Fayetteville, NC and have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with many fine 3rd group men who have inspired me to want to be a part of this elite group.
I'm not there yet, but give me a minute or two.

Good afternoon,
I am currently a college senior. I was an Army ROTC cadet for a few years, but am no longer in the program.
Currently, I plan on seeing a recruiter around December, and ideally getting an 18x contract for after graduating college. I am quite determined to get one.
Until then, I've been/will continue doing PT and reading, especially on this site. I've learned a lot already, and I am genuinely grateful for the unique opportunity of attempting this path in a time when a resource like this can thrive, technologically speaking. Thank you.
I posted here several years ago and then again recently but did not post an introduction.
A while after I returned from RVN, where I was with the 1/7th Cavalry of the First Cavalry Division, I went to SFQC in the summer of 1973 (class 1-74). Since then I have had deployments several times to Central America, including Operation Just Cause (1989), to Korea and a number of CONUS sites.
I spent 19 years in SF and retired in 1992 as SGM of Co B, 3d Bn, 12th SFG(A).

Hello, I am a 28 year old college graduate and after too many years of awful unfulfilling work in the private sector, I have made the executive decision to follow in my uncle's footsteps and do all I can to earn the honor of wearing the green beret by signing an 18X contract. I have long term goals, but i am keeping my eyes on the 25m target with selection in the 10 ring.
I have read Get Selected!, SF/Ranger workout by Stew Smith, hired a personal trainer with much USMC infantry (Army, much less SF, is hard to find in San Diego) experience for general weight training, and PT twice a day, 5-6 days/week.
Hello, I am a 23 year old student and plan on signing an 18x this coming spring. This past year I got married and moved from AZ to NC to be closer to my wife's family. I love this country and I can't wait to serve it. I am so happy I found this site and will be glued to it until I leave for basic! Thank you to all the QPs that post on these forums!
I'm an active duty combat engineer. I have four years of service and one deployment. I grew up around QPs and earning that title has been my life goal since I can remember. I'm slotted to attend SFAS in the near future, and I've been PTing and rucking my butt off to prepare.
I appreciate the inclusion here. Name - John. Service- Commel, 7th signal, 7th, and the 11th. Years '79-85. Back when code ruled. We just had a reserve team reunion-it was great to see the guys. ZZZ
Retired from the Army in 2008 after 25 years. Did 18 of the 25 in USASOC as a PSYOPer with 4 years in HHC, 19th SFG.

Hello, my name is Kent. I've come to learn and hopefully apply what i've learned here, and go to selection. I'm a mechanic in the 82nd , 25 yrs. old, and a pretty hard charger. I like the life style of SF and CAG operators, the gear, the treatment, and the brotherhood. Thanks and GOD Bless.
My name is Jeff. I have recently sworn in and am awaiting a delayed entry on 18x in the US Army Active.
Due to this, I will not release a lot of information publicly, although will provide information if asked privately by a Quiet Professional.
I don't plan on posting much, however, I do plan on reading everything and anything I come across.
Thank you for all the help and service every member has given.

Hey everyone, been lurking here reading through threads for a few months now, figured it was time to make an account. I'm currently active duty USAF Security Forces, serving missile security and as part of the TRF/EST team. Im looking to finish up my time and switch into the Army as SF, most likely in the guard. Currently have 3 years TIS and 3 remaining, in the mean time I'm just training my ass off and trying to learn as much as possible about the selection process, SF operations etc. Much respect to everything you guys do... Hopefully I'll be working along side you soon.

Gentlemen,
First let me apologize for just now getting my intro post, posted. I have been on the site since Feb 2010, though I have not posted till recently. I have gained some great info from many of the threads and posts. Any question I've searched for have been answered, without having to ask. Thank you. You have helped me a great deal.
I am currently a DoD Contractor and have been deploying wherever the job has taken me for the last four + years. As a Pilot, I have been lucky and humbled to have worked for/with some great people. Having never served in our Armed Forces, I have to admit I was more than a little nervous taking the job. I had no idea what to expect. I have to say that the experience has been nothing but positive and I have made friendships like no others.
When at home I enjoy old cars of all types, mainly good Ol American Muscle. I also enjoy aviation history and have been fortunate enough to fly some classic WWII airplanes, shooting and spending time with the Wife.
Hope I don't come off as sounding to goofy or anything.
Thanks again for allowing me to be a member of this community.

Hello, I'm Anton, and I'm currently working on completing my associate's degree in college. It is my intention to enlist as an active duty soldier later next year, or in early 2015. I've been lurking as a guest here since early 2011.
My main purpose on this forum is to develop a career path in the U.S. Army before I enlist, with SF as my end goal.
I will mostly be reading and absorbing as much as I can from the Quiet Professionals here before enlisting, aside from the occasional question or two.
Thank you for providing access to this fantastic community for hopefuls like me.

Hey all, honored to be here. I finished my undergraduate degree over the summer and am enlisting later this year; hopeful 18X edit: don't qualify because of medical waiver and exploring other options. I'm excited and grateful for the wealth of information and inspiration held here.
Hello, I am 24 years old and live in West Virginia. I've been very interested in Special Forces for a long time. Many thanks to those who are serving or have previously.
My name is Mike former Army 11 Bravo, 5/16 1st ID & 3/17 7th ID (Ft. Ord). Came across the site via Stolen Valor. Hope to keep current on weapons and gear as well as anything else I may pick up.

I am in the same boat as far as doing unfulfilling private sector work and being a college grad. Good luck to you - I will be signing an 18X contract in the next two weeks as an old man at 28 as well.
From all the researching and reading I have done on SF, it amazes me how diverse the SF crowd is. Working professionals, students with college degrees, prior service military guys, etc. I am extremely encouraged by the stories of a lot of the SF soldiers out there, and I can't wait to get in the mix!
Greetings everyone,
Currently an Infantry LT/PL in the CA NG. Very disappointed with the way my military career has turned out so far. The NG life has been nothing but a downer to me ever since I commissioned and I am now in the process of trying to get to a better place.
Special Forces has been a goal of mine ever since I began talking to the recruiter in college. For the past year or so, I have been preparing to take the SFRE (have to wait untill I am promotable) but I have recently come to the conclusion that I would much rather resign my commission and go 18x.
I have talked to the recruiter, and he said he could make it happen on his end if I can get the paper work from my CoC. Now just going back and forth in my head with my options. Came to this site to help the decision making process.
27 y/o, very healthy, and very motivated. I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say.

I'm a civilian. Enlisting soon. Came across the site through sheer happenstance. Grateful to all of you who allow us regular joe blows to benefit from your expertise on these various and sundry subjects to which I, at least, have great interest and less experience than I'd like. Wouldn't have made a profile at all, except I wanted to express my thanks for the advice and the invitation to your house. Aside from this obligatory post of gratitude and welcome in accordance with standing orders, I'll likely not be speaking unless spoken to.
Thanks again.
Hello everyone. I am a 20 year old "kid" in college pursuing degrees in Nursing and Intelligence Studies. I've been lurking around the site for years, but as I have started to close in on the final two years of college and the biggest decisions of my life; it seems like a wise idea to join (that and search function can only be used by members.).
Honestly I intend to acquire an 18x contract and hopefully become an 18D, but will first have to acquire a medical waiver because of a very complicated childhood (benign brain tumor, reconstructed feet, and (had) severe asthma among other things) . However that being said I have decided to dedicate myself to this 100%, I approach my training and prep as do or die with no other alternatives (I am aiming far above standards ). Becoming SF has always been a dream and goal of mine (yes I know I romanticize it a fair bit). I understand the general mission sets of SF and have had conversations both attempting to persuade and dissuade me from pursing anything to do with the army; however I am determined to become SF no matter what.
Big post but I probably will not post much again, if at all, because I do have access to people I can ask most questions (can use the search button now) and I do not like to chime in on matters in which I am not an expert or experienced.
Thank you for all the information provided on this site!

Hi to ALCON. I'm a newby guest, retired US Navy (Surface Warfare). I noticed that a few of the 18E guys were referencing some of the AN/GRC-109 / RS-1 radio set information that I had posted elsewhere. The resulting thread was interesting.
I'm here to learn and maybe answer some questions about vintage portable field commo equipment if I can. OPSEC always....
Thanks, Tim

28 yrs old, was reservist since 2008 and now I am in active to reclass to 35P.
Prior MOS was 68W and looking to build professionalism through Army as my career.
Native Speaker as 35P and hope find my way into SOTA, I was language contractor in bragg before and that open my mind and makes me want to go active instead stay as reservist.
Any tips about SOTA will be appreciate.
as far as I know, get 280 on PT, volunteer to go Airborne. then the new course for SOTA, and as 3/3 DLPT native speaker I should be in good shape. There is any age limit for SOTA?
Thanks y'all.

I am currently an artillery PL/XO in the ARNG. I'm also a civilian police officer. I'm 27 years old and still hounding my chain of command for a chance at ranger school. I've all but given up hope of going to ranger school as an artillery officer in the guard (one of my largest military goals not yet achieved), so I've been looking at other options (one of which is possibly resigning my commission). Since looking into the special forces option, I've become obsessed with it. I've read books, articles, forums, etc. I'm taking the next step now, and hopefully I can gain some insight and wisdom from the many quiet professionals here. I look forward to chatting with everyone who is willing to offer some advice! Thanks!

Retired 18Z. Served 23 years with 18 in the Regiment. After retirement worked 8 years as a DoS WPS contractor/instructor. Now semi-retired, give private hand gun instruction in my AO, and do a little consulting on occasion.

Hello all, I'm looking into signing a 18X contract along with a fellow battle buddy of mine I was deployed with in 2009. I graduate Fall 2014 from the University of Miami, however, I want to stay on the enlisted side first and hopefully get picked for 18D. If Army needs dictate otherwise, so be it. Thanks for the plethora of information on the forums!

I am a 24 year old who does not currently service in any military branch but joined this forum to gain more knowledge of SOF. I have grown up in a farming community in the Midwest my hole life and played college football. Unsure of what to do after college I have a good job working at a heavy equipment manufacturer. But it has been on my mind to enlist and be apart of something bigger than myself much like I found in athletics .

I've been retired since 98, with 28 yrs svc. Ret as 00Z5P and called Bragg home for at least half my career. Most of the time I was 91B/54B, but as most know you roll a whole bunch of other stuff, letters and numbers into the pot. Spent time in Tolz, Vicenza and places further south and East. I guess I just want to keep somewhat in the net. Now I live in the Redoubt in a 12x16 cabin and command chickens, goats and dogs. (absolutely no sheep need apply. I instructed at 300F1 but never wore the green, always maroon. That being said I just could'nt seem to keep away from you guys. Everytime you started something I got pulled in.:D Anyway this feels like home. I came across this site while looking for an old friend named Pat Brogan, sadly I was a little late. Thanks for the gathering. Some may know me by my old call sign, Rockydoc.

Right now I'm trying to decide between going to medical school or joining the Army and giving the 18X a go. I've always been fascinated with the military; SF's "smarter, not harder" approach and the cultural side of things--contrasted with Rangers et al-- are appealing to me.
A buddy of mine, a current 1st year med student, is a former Ranger and encourages my military aspirations--he seems to think I've got what it takes based on the guys he knows in SF.
Feel free to send me a PM if you feel like chewing the fat.
Cheers,
Confucius

Hello,
new member & just introducing myself. Former Navy, nothing fancy just std-issue brown-shoe. Live in the southern US, I found this forum quite by accident and I enjoy the more thoughtful aspects of it.
Greetings to all.
Good morning. The effort shows, you guys have a fantastic thing going here!

I have been lurking on this board for several years now. Made an intro back then, but after a precautionary check cannot find it.
I live in Johannesburg South Africa, and am currently employed in the financial services sector. I am a former member of 1 Parachute Battalion SADF and 3 Parachute Bn (CF) known as the Parabats.
My intersts are centred largely around the outdoors hunting hiking etc although time seems to have become very limited for this lately.
I also have an interest in the history of military units and come here to read the opinions of members.

Active Duty guy here. 8 Years so far. Served my first 5 kicking around as Infantry with a "Letter of SF Intent", Got out in 2010 because I thought it was a good idea at the time.
Did a year on Reserves with PSYOP, did a year IRR because I didn't appreciate the climate of the unit, after screwballing a few financial things I took the opportunity to rejoin Active Duty in 2012 as a Mechanic.
Now back in the thick of it and enjoying my Groundhog Day career, that's a story for another thread, baby on the way and finances getting right, I've turned my focus back to my career and what I want it to be, which brings me here.
Been lurking here for a couple years, figured it was a good time to stick my head out of the foxhole and make myself known. I appreciate the resource y'all provide to those of us thinking about Selection.
Back to my corner, I hope to be reporting my attendance to SFAS in the near future.
You can call me Van. Prior service as a 19D with 3d ACR. I got one deployment under my belt, came home and rode my contract out. I thought I was making the right move at the time. A few years have passed and the more that do the more I realize that I was more at home and at peace with myself in the Army than I am in my actual home. So I've decided I'm going back, come Hell or high water. I'm dropping school after this semester ends to focus on training so I can be as prepared as possible when I take the plunge. I'm taking it one day at a time and my current goal is to be ready, sign, and go as soon as March. I'm a fat body these days, so I've got my work cut out for me but I know what I want and I'm letting nothing stop me. Anyway, my sole purpose here is to lurk, soak up all the information I can, and listen to the advice of those who have gone before me. A sincere Thanks to all the quiet professionals out there who've made this site possible and for all you've done. I will resume and maintain radio silence unless otherwise ordered or I have something worthwhile to contribute.

Hello everyone,
I'm Dan. Completed my BS in electrical engineering from Ohio University in 2008. Did a government scholarship in Japan after that. Enlisted in the army in 2010 and completed the Q-course in February 2012. Been with 1-1 SFG ever since (ODB1120, ODA1126).
I've been lurking around the boards for the past few years and have found some pretty helpful stuff. I made the field expedient SATCOM antenna (http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18907) last year in Afghanistan, and it was pretty awesome.
Anyway, it's great to be here.

I'm an 11B with the LRS company out at JBLM.
I've been creeping around here looking at the 18E forum for awhile, decided I'd finally introduce myself.
My name is Carl. Former reservist who decided to jump in the pipeline as a Specialist(E-4).
I've been reading from this site since I offically started with the signing of my contract. The insight the Quiet Professionals and many of the other members have has helped me and the other 18x's in my group improve drastically. I became a member just to be a more active part of this community.
Thanks for allowing me to join.
My name is Steve and I am a SFC, 11B in the MOS Phase of the Q.
I started the Q back in Nov of 2012 and used PS.com as a medium to look thru when I was deciding on my career path, prior to SFAS. I still continue to use this great resource for advice and wisdom, both from a success and failure POV of others.
Hello all,
I'm Thomas, graduated in 2011 with a BA in Economics. Currently I'm in sales and working on my personal fitness in preparation for getting an 18X contract. I truly appreciate the wealth of knowledge that's available on this forum and others like it. The web links and advice that I've found on this forum has greatly helped my exercise regime and given me a much better understanding of what lies in store for me.
Have a great holiday everyone.
Greetings. I am a 27 year old E-5 medic with the CA Army National Guard. Am hoping to attend an upcoming SFRE held by the 19th group and figured introducing myself would be a keen idea in case I had any questions. Thank you for having me, and I've huge amounts of respect for all of you.

Hello –
Thank you for allowing me to be here. I have been reading everything and I very much appreciate both your service and the opportunity to learn from your perspectives.
I did not serve but my son did, as did my father and his father before him. Actually, I’ve had a family member in every generation in every war including the one which created this nation.
On November 1st, 2010, my son was KIA in Khandahar Afghanistan by a VIED. This is not normally something I state by way of introduction, but for this forum I think it is appropriate to be upfront, as this fact does colour many of my opinions. Hence, the ‘handle’ I’ve chosen.
I spend most of my time behind a keyboard, plying my trade as a writer. When I am out in public, most of my time is spent working on, for or with issues of concern to our military and veterans. Even then, amongst those who are most likely to know or understand the title I carry I rarely if ever identify myself as a Gold Star.
The reason for this is simply, it is not about me. I'll talk about my son’s service, what he believed, what he stood for but rarely mention that he died while living those beliefs. To do so changes the focus from him, or the issue or situation, to me, a grieving mother. My grief is private, and I’ve discussed it publicly as much as I ever intend to on my blog. That said, if anyone has any questions, or would like to talk to a GS mom, you can PM me. Here, if I join any discussion, it will be on the larger issues facing our country, military and veterans, seeking your unique perspectives and perhaps offering some of mine.

I am 34 years old and have been in the Regiment since 2009. Since then, I have deployed three times to SW Asia as an 18D. Previously, I was an infantryman with the Stryker Brigade and deployed once to Iraq. My team leader introduced me to this website and said it's a good source of information beyond one's own network.

I'm a 20 year old college student and I plan on enlisting after I graduate. I've wanted to serve in the military, more specifically special operations, for most of my life. It just feels like what I'm meant to do. I'll be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure that I want to try for SF. The first SOF unit I ever heard of was the rangers through the televised best ranger competitions but I didn't know they were SOF, or the concept of special operations really, I just knew they led the way. Then I discovered the 15 minute documentary about the SEALs in the video game SOCOM:US NAVY SEALs and was dead set on becoming a SEAL from the time I was 8 up until about two years ago. However, as I've gotten older I've started reading more about the various SOF units and what they do, and thus my predicament.
As far as me personally, I've played lacrosse at the collegiate level and hope to start playing again. I love training and working out as much as I love playing.

Greetings,
I am a 1LT (III/V PL) in a Combat Aviation Brigade with about 12 months time on station. I am very thankful to have had an excellent group of NCO mentors and I hope to continue to be afforded the opportunity to serve down at the company level for as long as I can.
I aspire to attend SFAS with my year group. Until then, I am just continuing to work on becoming the best leader and soldier that I can. I hope that when the dust clears, I am a good fit for SF.
Thank you all for the wisdom and advice passed along on the forums. If anyone was a prior support branch who transitioned over to being an 18A, I would love to talk to you about ways to set my azimuth straight.
1LT, 11A serving in the ARNG. I'm here to study and learn. Hoping to attend SFRE once eligible.

Hello all, I am a 25 year old university student with 6 years active and 2 reserve in the navy. I suppose I should admit now that while unknowingly, I did not make this introduction my first post as instructed, although I did read the rules several times I suppose I did not pay sufficient attention to detail and I apologize.
For the past several years I have known I want to be part of the special forces community but have been torn between the SEALS, and Green Berets. The deciding factor for me is a long story but if you are interested in hearing about it feel free to message me and I would be happy to explain. Suffice it to say now that I have decided Green Beret is the path I desire I am committed whole heatedly to becoming one of the army's elite warriors. I have already spent hours on end going over the wealth of knowledge available on this site as a non member and am very much looking forward to learning as much as possible from its members.

Pat,
I don't know if that is anything notable. I really don't remember much of the ride so I can't say if it was actually at zero altitude. I wound up with a compressed spine and a ruptured diaphram but my observer got out uninjured.
I thought I was lucky to have a flying slot at my rank which were few and far between!

Pat,
I did mention the 3MIB. We had units in several states including SC, GA, MI, OH, PA and OR. I didn't think it was necessary to cover my service in that much detail.
With working for an airline, I could visit or work with units on a TDY basis for little or no expense to me including AZ, OR & GA. That's if my company had a "jump seat agreement" with an airline who served a city close to the unit.
Well I think that's TMI for now.

Gentlemen,
I joined about three years ago and read here often. I haven’t had anything to add until recently.
I have never served in the armed forces. But if you went through the Q course or worked out of Camp Mackall in the 90’s we have crossed paths. I was known as “that asshole cop” over by Rhudy DZ near Foxfire. There has been a lot of mileage on all of us since then.
Thanks, usacivpol
Gentlemen,
Just want to express my gratitude for allowing me become a follower of your forum. I most likely will not be posting again due to the large amount of info already at my disposal. I am PS, attempting to get back in. I have several options to consider, but the 18X contract is the one I desire. Especially after the Air Force decided to put me on hold despite excelling and passing all prerequisites to start the Pararescue pipeline. Attempting to go SF and join your elite brotherhood has always been a dream of mine. Sadly, I allowed family members PS to cloud my judgement with my first enlistment. After a few more discussions with my wife and setting up a course of action for my departure, I plan on starting the long path ahead of me and earning my Green Beret.

Hi, I'm a former active duty Marine (2004-2009). My MOS was 2674 (French Cryptologic Linguist). I'm 28 and married with 2 kids.
I wanted to re enlist and signed my 18X contract back in November. I've been reading a lot of helpful advice, and I'm thankful to have this site as a resource.
Great to be here, Sir's.
I'm prior service AF, got out, took a job with DoD, and was fortunate enough to be placed in a capacity which gave me exposure to SOF forces between the two most popular theaters. That said, I was exposed to batt boys (always in the gym with them), ODA's, MARSOC, SEALs, CAG, CCT/PJ's, to OGA, etc. My entire perspective changed, and I knew I wanted a chance to serve with professionals.
Initially, I was set on trying to get an 11b/opt.40 contract as a lot of the SF guy's recommended that I go batt first for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, that option isn't available to prior service, so 18x it will be.
I'll most likely be signing the contract here in a week, or two.
Regards,
Ergo

Hello. My name is Alex. I joined the Army Reserve in January of 2004 after a year of college. I enlisted as 38B, Civil Affairs Specialist, went to Basic at Jackson and AIT at Bragg.
I have a deployment to Yusafiyah, Lutafiyah, Mahmudiyah triangle just southwest of Baghdad in 2006.
I work in healthcare on the civilian side and want to be a lifer in the military, at the least in the Reserve/National Guard basis. With that said, I want to make the most out of my military career, civilian career, and personal life as I have changed and matured incredibly over the past year or two.
Here to learn and listen.

Hello all-
Thanks to the QPs and other managers of this site for providing such an excellent resource to those of us interested in pursuing military careers. I've read and reread many of the threads here, and I joined in order to - hopefully - pass along some meaningful information to color-deficient/colorblind individuals pursuing 18X contracts.
For personal background, I'll turn 23 in a little under a week, and I was born and raised in Kentucky. I attended college in Washington, DC, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in International Politics, with the equivalent of a minor in Spanish and extensive coursework in African Studies, graduating last May. While living in DC I had the pleasure to work and become acquainted with several current and former military personnel, including many who served in special operations units. I signed an 18X contract in December 2013, and I'm scheduled to leave for OSUT 20140408.
In the meantime, if anyone here lives in the Louisville/Cincinnati/Lexington areas and is interested in running or rucking with me, send me a PM.

Greetings All,
First, let me thank PS.com for this source of information, and to the QP's for contributing. I appreciate you all having me as your guest.
I have been enlisted in the NJARNG for the past 7 years. I am currently a commo chief for my current unit of assignment. I have attended 'hooah' schools and been blessed with many ADOS assignments.
I am a full-time police officer with 6 years on the job in a big city. During this time, I have been TAC team, School Resource Officer, and Narcotics Detective.
College educated in Political Science, with future plans for my Juris Doctor.
I have been cruising the forums for approximately 1 year and recently registered. I am here to soak up information, learn from peoples experiences and the QPs. The ball is rolling, with my brief in February at Det2/2/20th in Glen Arm, MD.
Very Respectfully,

Greetings, shalom, or otherwise, hello. I'm humbled by being allowing to observe as a guest. I appreciate all that silent professionals have done for this nation.
I'm a taxi driver in one of America's most dangerous cities, and I tirelessly work day and night at the expense of my own comfort to transport people to their chosen destinations quickly and efficiently. I've lived in the West and in the East, but presently I reside in the South. I was educated on the Great Plains at a land grant university.
I'm married with one child and another on the way.
I've always had a desire to serve, but I was rejected for service because I once had a malignant tumor from testicular cancer. I am otherwise healthy, but it's a buyer's market for recruiters right now and they figured that a waiver wasn't worth the effort at this juncture. I am, however, a member of the official State Defense Force.
Again, thank you.
I would like to introduce myself, I served in three branches of service since 1970; 3rd MARDIV Okinawa JA. 1/325 Inf. 82nd ABD Ft Bragg NC, and Finally with the US Coast Guard at various assignments where I retired from Active duty. I presently live in Central FL, and have two Sons who presently serve, My youngest in 1st Bat, 75th Ranger Regiment, and my eldest who is a Lt in the Navy as a Naval Aviator. 2 Nephews 1 USMC and One USA 101st. and 3 nieces all USCG also serving. Of these, 4 have been to the Sandbox (IAVA) since desert shield. I hope to engage in conversation with anyone having something Intelligent to say, otherwise I will fall back into the shadow quietly.

I would like to introduce myself by saying THANK YOU to all of the service members on this site for their sacrifices and service to our country.
I am retired and spent 10 years active duty in the US Army and thirteen years USAR. The greatest assignment I experienced was in Bad Toelz, Germany for a little over 2 years with 10th SFG, A-32 as 18E. Attended flight school and served in Vietnam as an Avaitor. I have one son who is currently attending Sergeant Major Academy in El Paso.

I figure it's about time I introduce myself. I have been reading the forums for a long while but haven't posted before. I am a 20 year old man from Minnesota. I have been interested in the military since I was in kindergarten. I am interested in joining SF. I've been working on fixing a disqualifying condition since before I graduated high school. I'm not sure what all to say so I will conclude this post before I start rambling.
Hello all. I joined the active compenent army in 2006 as a truck driver. I reclassed to MP in 2009 because I did not like the job as a truck driver. I started thinking I may want to try SF prior to MP school. My first orders as an MP was to FTCKY home of the 5th. This was my first sign. I put through the paperwork with the Special Operations Recruiting office and after some months I went to SFAS in June of 10. I was not ready, physically, mentally, heart or maturity level. I was 22.
I then decided to leave active duty in 2012 and joined the reserves. I quickly missed being regular army. I then tried to get a release to get back to active. Upon getting my release granted I was thinking of going back as an MP. Well everything closes, my luck (or was it). Then something opened and low and behold it was 18x. This had to be yet another sign. My calling. I have regreted how I VWd out of SFAS back in 2010 and thought about it from time to time. My release expired this past October and I have sense tried for another. I decided that I won't mess it up this time. This time around I REALLY want this more than anything. I have begun a training regimine to fix my failures :lifter and working hard to get my release so I can get my 18x contract.
I will get my contract. I will put forth well over 110%. I will get selected. I will join the ranks of the great QPs.
This site is amazing. Since I have found it I have done nothing else on the internet other than reading threads and taking notes. I want to thank all of you for your advice and help. Apologize for the length of this intro but felt the best way to get any help I need is to know all about me.

Good morning everyone. I have been in the Marine Corps for five years. My MOS is infantry, I have been on one combat deployment and will hopefully soon be attending a SFRE for a NG SF unit. Becoming a QP has always been something I wanted, and it is something I will strive to achieve.
Thank you for your time, advice, and this site in general. It has already provided a wealth of info and advice.
Greetings,
I have spent my 72 hour probation period reading just about every thread.
I recently signed an 18X contract instead of re-enlisting with the Navy or going to the Corps.
I agreed with going back to bootcamp and losing a rank, but that is worth the chance to prove to the community that I am worthy of standing within the ranks.
I am very thankful and excited for the wealth of information on this site. My hats off to all of the QPs and others.
For now, I'll be reading, posting less, and PT.
(Oh, and i get to go to SERE again, THAT should be fun)
Hello Everyone,
I have been lurking around these forums for quite a while now, searching for this and that in regards to an assortment of Special Forces information. I have recently enlisted under the 18X program and will be leaving soon.
I appreciate the time all of the QP have put in place on this site to help individuals like myself. Hopefully I will have the physical and mental fortitude to achieve this goal.
I have been preparing myself for the rigors of the pipeline for nearly 4 months and I cannot wait to see if I have prepared enough :)
Thanks for everything.

Hello all,
I am currently a Cavalry Scout (19D) in the Nebraska Army National Guard. I have not had the opportunity to be deployed yet, so for now I am doing my monthly drills training for reconnaissance and surveillance missions. While I enjoy my MOS and my current unit, I strive for something more. I feel that my best fit lies within Special Forces. The experiences I have gained both in the civilian world and in my military duties have culminated into something unique that I believe I can bring to SF. I am a determined person by nature and I refuse to allow myself to throw in the towel at any point.
I joined this forum so that I might have the opportunity to meet gentleman that have held themselves to the highest standard and earned their right to be in Special Forces. I have learned over my years to take the experiences of others and apply it in such a way that I can better myself. Since becoming 18-Series is what I hold so precious to my heart, I know the best way possible to get to where I want to be is through the guidance of the experts here.
I would like to thank you all for allowing me to be a part of this forum community and I hope that in the near future I can proudly declare that I am a member of the Quiet Professionals.

Whats going on Gentlemen, My name is Sam. I've been on this site since 2011 but figured I finally make my first post. I am a recent grad of the SFCQ. I am a 18B and will be heading to 7th group. I spent 7 years in the 82nd before the Q course as a 11B. I needed to push my self farther and that's what made me join SF. I am looking forward to my career in SF and glad to be among the best that the Army has to offer!

I'm a 62-year-old retired guy living in a rural area of the Northwest. I spent 13 years in the US Army, six of which was in the 5th SFG (Eng. Sgt.). I also spent time as a tanker in Germany, and as an EOD Response Team Leader. I ETS-ed intending to go back to school, get married, and reinlist after I graduated. Didn't work out that way. I spent a career in civilian Federal service instead.
Now, I work around our farm, head to the woods whenever possible, and do a bit of consulting work.
I was very pleased to find this forum. I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas, maybe learning some field craft tricks, and catching up on the current nature of the profession.
I would like to thank those guys that are still active. We appreaciate youall being out there.
WARNING: Huge wall of text to follow. This is a pretty long intro about myself. I blame it on part boredom and part missing the military life.
I was born and raised mostly in Utah, spent a few years in different places as a kid like Puerto Rico, Mexico and Argentina. Was a runner in High School and got a scholarship to run in college which was a great way to pay for a degree. Got my teaching credentials and was in my 1st year teaching High School Spanish in Colorado when 9/11 happened. It rocked my world and I knew I had to do something different with my life than try to baby-sit other people's kids and teach them how to say, "Donde esta el baño?" and "Otra cerveza porfavor."
I had always wanted to join the military during college, but figured since school was already paid for I should stick it out and get my degree, and that there would always be time for that sort of thing later. Well, that fateful and tragic morning was my wake up call. I got online and did quite a bit of research into what I was going to do. As I saw the footage on the news of the Rangers waddling up a ramp in all their gear getting ready for a jump into A-stan in October '01, it clicked that I wanted to go Airborne. So I looked up all the different ways to be Airborne. I came across SOCNET.com, registered and was inundated with tons of info from the guys on there. (I'm Stampee on those forums btw).
It didn't take long before I found exactly what I wanted to do, I was going to be an SF Medic, that job had everything I wanted. I contacted the local recruiter for the 5/19th, he hooked me up with a REP-63, I drilled with the REC out at Watkins for several months while still teaching, and then marched off to start the long road to earning my place on the teams.
The next few years were awesome. I made some great friends along the way. Had a blast through every phase of training. My favorite was by far Selection. Guys were dropping like flies, and every time someone would tap out, it was like a big boost of endorphins and adrenaline to me. I would get more excited and motivated knowing that I was going to make it. I had a close call in Phase II during the final day of testing, I broke my ankle when I stepped on a log that gave way while being the RTO and deciding it would be a good idea to throw a downed battle buddy over my heavy ass ruck full of radio equipment and breaking contact. Because I had already passed, they let me move on to the Phase III on crutches since we would be spending most of the time sitting on our posteriors being tortured by power points and rectal exams. I enjoyed that year of medical training, and to this day, think it's the best high speed medical training in all the world. Robin Sage, oh man, good times. In retrospect, the highlight had to be leading patrols and figuring out some unconventional ways to pull off some pretty silly missions and earning the praise of the cadre for thinking outside the box. As a huge fan of cold war era spy stories and Tom Clancy novels, I lucked out and got to learn русский язык during language training. Just too bad I didn't get to use it all that much and now have forgotten 90% of what I learned. SERE...ugh, that was some crazy stuff, but man did those tears pour as Old Glory stood there and the music blared.
Anyway, I was supposed to head back to 5/19th, but had no job prospects that interested me. My biggest grief with the Q-course at that time, was that even with all my cool medical training, I didn't have any civilian credentials except for a worthless EMT-B certification to use. My options were to go back to teaching, or go back to school. But I didn't want to teach. So I chose to work my way into getting into PA school. In order to do so, I needed to move back closer to family, so I went back to Utah and transferred to 1/19th.
The unit had just come back from A-stan I think about a year before I joined them. I got placed on a great team as a new junior medic and we hit it off. Spent some time in Thailand and Bangladesh for some JCET action. Got accepted to the UofU PA program and at the same time found out our unit was getting deployed to the Philippines. Thankfully the program allowed me to put PA school off a year and saved a spot for me in the next year's class. Although the PI deployment was technically considered part of OEF and it was pretty cool, and we did some great work there, I was still hungering for what I had signed up for, taking the fight to those that did us harm. I wanted A-stan. After we got back, I finished PA school and started working full time. That's when things started to wind down. We kept hearing empty promises of us going to A-stan, and I wanted to stay with my team, not strap-hang with other units to get there. One postponement after another and finally they said, if we really wanted to, we could join another unit to go to Iraq as it was winding down. By this time, I have a great full-time job with ever-expanding responsibilities, a wife and 4 kids to support, and I realized I wasn't a kid anymore and wasn't going to be able to go gallivanting off to exotic places to fight bad guys anymore. So after some subtle pressure from the little lady, I ETS'd in '11.
I look back with fond memories of team life, had a blast, did some amazing training, and even had a little bit of action. But there's a little bit of an empty feeling too.
For those of you still on the teams, enjoy your experiences, there is nothing else like it in all the world.
SFgrunt----Great post. Thanks for your service.

I am a 26 year old, recently separated Marine who held the MOS of 0321 (Reconnaissance) for the bulk of my 8 year career. I love the Recon community and was fortunate enough to serve with the best men I have ever known. However, serving in a non-SOF asset has its obvious limitations and I am currently looking for ways to enter a SOF asset, with a large priority given to the SF community. I am currently looking at A/5/19 in California along with a look (now or eventual) at active duty options. I thank all the moderators for the content and look forward to learning more and more every day.
I am former SF from Vietnam. I found this site from a web search and am glad the unit is still in good hands. I was privileged to serve with some of the finest men I have ever met and am glad to see the tradition still exists.
Hi, first I would like to say thanks for your courage and great service to our country. My father was James Askine who served in Vietnam in 1967 with the 5th Special Forces Group. Dad never said much about Vietnam. He died in 2003. I am trying to piece together what he did in Vietnam (I am the unofficial family Genealogist). I suspect that he did some great things, but we just don't know. I have begun reading about Project Sigma. I am pretty sure he was the B-33 XO in September 1967 and also a member of B-56 (Sigma). If anyone served with dad, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks

Hey everyone my name is Dave and I am a soon to be college graduate from western NY. There has always been a strong desire inside of me to join the army since I was a little kid. I dont know what it is specifically but I feel that its a lifestyle I want to be a part of and I want to do it at the highest level. Being a Green Beret is something that I have been looking into a lot lately ever since I have thought about what Im going to do after I graduate. I think I have a lot of unique skills that would allow me to be successful in a high intensity, team-oriented organization such as Special Forces. I have always played sports and am a competitor and I understand the dynamics and importance of teamwork.
I have been doing a lot of research into the whole selection process, reading blogs, trying to find former SF operators and current military personnel to talk to and get a real, hands-on account of what military life is like. I have been reading this book "Chosen Soldier" by Dick Couch and I cant put it down. Every step of the SFAS and Q-Course intrigue me so much. I hope that I can get some different perspectives from this blog as I know there are some really knowledgeable people on here (hoping TR doesnt find anything wrong with this introduction). Anyways, I hope to engage in some dialogue with members on this board. If anyone would like to talk I hope you can direct message me from here. Thanks for reading this and I look forward to future posts.

Thanks for the opportunity to join your family. I served with A Company 1st Battalion 7th Group in the early 70’s as an 11 Bravo. While there, I had the privilege to walk in the shadows of some of the greatest soldiers of our time. What an awe inspiring opportunity for a young Buck Sargent! Several members of the Special Forces Association have spoken highly of this site so I thought I would give it a try. I am hopeful that I will be able to reunite with some long lost friends and perhaps make some new acquaintances in the process.

Former AD Navy MP, currently in the Navy reserves for now. Currently a US Marshal in Miami, Fl. I have gleaned a huge amount of information just by sitting back and reading through this site and appreciate all the knowledge on here. I don't intend to ask too many questions as, for now, the majority of them have been answered. I have a certain set of goals in mind for the recent future but figure its not my time to ask just yet until things become more concrete. Thanks for this site.

Hello. I am a prior service NG soldier who misses the daily grind of military life. I truly believe that I have what it takes to become a Special Forces Soldier now I just have to convince my wife that this decision is the best for our family. I appreciate the readily available information on this forum and all the advice given. Thank you for your service and God Bless
Hello all, I will be leaving for Basic in the summer and active duty OCS thereafter, I am non prior service. I am 26 with a BS in Bio and a BA in Spanish as well as an MA in Spanish. I have been a firefighter/medic for the past 5 years while in school. The OCS application process took a bit longer than expected but I stuck it out and it all worked out in the end. I am hoping to branch infantry, do my best as a 2nd Lt. and bust my butt physically before applying to SF whenever packets for my yeargroup are being accepted.
I'm not trying to put the cart before the horse by investigating SF but that is my goal and I figure a longterm gameplan can't hurt.
I rock climb, race triathlons (half-iron is my favorite distance), train in MMA, and I have begun rucking a bit to toughen up my feet. I'm also one jump away from my skydiving A license.
I plan on gleaning as much information as I can from this site in the next few years before I apply for SF as an officer.
Thank you all for running this site and for your service.

Stumbled across this site a few years ago, and it has been an invaluable training and research tool. Thank you, QP's for putting together this site and for sharing your knowledge with us "regular joes."
About me: I'm a Specialist in the SC National Guard, and I put in my transfer request for active duty a few months ago and it should be coming through any day now. I've been in constant contact with my active duty recruiter and should be headed to MEPS soon after this transfer goes through for an 18X contract.
It's been my dream since I was a kid to be Special Forces, and it looks like it's finally going to become a reality (with some hard work, attention to detail and no small amount of luck). I just got my copy of Get Selected! and started the workout program today.
That's all I have, other than thanks for letting me in to your house to have a look at the library.
Update: I leave for OSUT in July, finally got my 18X contract!

I am 24 years old stationed at Charleston AFB. I've been in the AF for a little over 5 years and have aspirations of switching services and become a "Green Beret". I have a football/weightlifter background and for the last year I have been slowly making process into CrossFit and gaining more endurance. I have been researching for a little over a year (this site and the book SELECTED have been a huge help in finding info and learning more). I am looking forward to learning more from y'all.

I am a California National Guardsman and began my career in 2008 with B Co 1-184 INF (light). I joined with aspirations to attend SFRE at the old redwood city detachment but had to cancel those plans due to family matters. Here I am again, hoping to be able to reserve a seat for the march SFRE and am looking forward to meeting some of you on here that are from 19th SFG. I am a personal fitness trainer in the Bay Area and am attending college (social/behavior sci). My interest is within the 18D pipeline and 18B due to personal interests, activities, personality, and current skill sets. As a fitness trainer, PT is more of a passion than a task. I've always enjoyed a good ruck run in the rain, and am fairly practiced at getting out to various locations for road marches. If anybody is looking for a training partner, please feel free to pm me.
It's been quite interesting observing you all off and on for the last six years and hope to continue to be welcomed to your forum.

Gentlemen,
I have been lurking on this site for some time reading, learning, and soaking up as much knowledge and information as I can. Figured that it would be about time that I should post an introduction. A bit about myself: I am currently serving in the PAARNG as a 13F since 2011. I am also wrapping up my undergrad studies in Government/Political Affairs.
I enjoy reading and learning about SF as I have a few friends who have been attached to SFODA's, work with SF on a daily basis, and who are currently in/have been SF.
Thank you for having me and thank you for your service to our country!

Hello, my name is Cody and I am a soon to be graduating college student. I intend to enlist under the 18x program.
Hi my name is Tom I am an Australian, I have had a fascination with guns and all related gear since I can remember. I’m currently working in the security industry (mall cop) not the bad ass pmc type :(
My dream that im working on is to become a US or UK special forces operator specifically as a sniper, but I’ll be quite happy just to get in and get started.
I follow alot of the former Special Forces types and gun/knife/gear manufacturers on Facebook and Youtube. I'am a big believer in the 2nd amendment right of the US constitution as the right to protect oneself and their family was stripped away by the paranoid Australian government after reacting to a mass shooting (Martin Bryant). Pretty sure some of you CCW boys could of stopped him if you were there!
I look forward to learning as much as possible as I believe this is probably the best "tactical" forum I have found.
I am a 27 y.o Active Duty Marine Infantryman stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. I am currently OCONUS in the HOA area.
While researching Army SF information, I kept getting sites from this site so I decided to look in to it. I have came across a lot of good intel on here.

Hello everyone,
Name is Randy. Served in 25th ID, 2-27 IN BN for two deployments to Iraq in '06 and again in '08. I went to SFAS back in '07 but got med dropped, then made the unfortunate mistake of ETSing to "try something new". Have been in the reserves ever since, waiting for the business rules to open for my cross over, now that they have I will be headed to selection soon again as soon as the CG signs my 368.
I know this is a little bit more than just an intro, but SF is something I live and breathe. I train and do research day in and day out...it's just one of those things for me, I wanted it back when I first tried out, but now it's a different animal for me. Special Forces is just my passion, plain and simple.
I look forward to becoming a part of the brotherhood, and I look forward to learning as much as I can from the community here.
(On a side note: My username Alpha254 is no badass nickname or call sign. It was my basic training company on Sand Hill back in '05.)

I'm not SF but I did watch "The Unit" soooo THAT should count for something right?
Just an old Marine Radio Communications REMF who has rediscovered the importance of being prepared. I have chosen this fine community as one of the ways to re-educate myself on 1st thru 3rd line gear and sustainability. What better community than SF to learn from for this. I fear this country and our society is heading into the sh*tter and I need to be ready for it. That's my job and my wife, children and grandchildren depend on me to do my job well.
Thanks for having me and Semper Fi.

I am an Army Retiree that had a decent career, but not as a SF guy. I current work in the Defense industry as a contractor, closest thing I could find to being around troops.
Hi all, I'm PFC Peacock. I've been in the CAANG for almost 2 years. Looking to learn as much as possible on this site. (eyes and ears open, mouth shut). Looking forward to getting promoted to E-4 so I can do SFRE.
Good afternoon gentleman,
I am a 23 year old MH60 crew chief in the 160th. Did some time in the regular army before crossing over and looking to never go back! I've always enjoyed my time working with SF and someday hope to go to SFAS. My next goal in life and career wise is either go to SFAS or A&S for another aviation unit. Thanks for letting me join the site and I look forward to learning more and more about Special Forces

Hello,
I'm a civilian. Career computer geek. Long-time student of military history. These days if I'm not at work I'm with my horses, in the shop working on some project or out with my ruck hunting and hiking in the mountains around my house.

Introductory post. I am a LT in the Navy stationed at NAS JAX flying the P-8. It's decision time on my current career path and many things are pointing me in the SF direction, namely the UW mission among others. If anyone has any advice for a Navy officer aspiring to transfer into your profession, I would greatly appreciate the inputs.

I'll keep it simple. I've been poking around doing lots of reading on this forum, trying to get all my info before I start asking questions. My life consist of school, workouts, and when I have time food/water. I'm working towards scorings high on the ASVAB, getting all the right things in my contract, and what ever else I'll need to get me started in the right direction. I'm looking forward to be amongst the best and the brightest someday in the future. That is all.
I've been a lurker for years, came here the first time to look up information on a poser. Pretty much spend my time at Ammo Talk, Early Bird and General Discussion Forums. It's not that I don't have an interest in SF subjects in detail, it's just that I'm an old fart now and have to limit my avenues of enthusiasm.
I met quite a few SF soldiers in my career and to a man, they were of the best examples of soldier I've ever seen. In fact, it's because of an SF soldier that I missed out as Honor Graduate at BNCOC...had to settle for Leadership Graduate because I couldn't beat his PT score. He was a friggin' beast. I almost coughed out a lung on the run trying to keep up with that bastard.
Joined in 1973 as a radio operator and worked through to radio repairman and commo chief. Switched to tanks in the early 80's and retired right after Desert Storm.
I am a twenty-six year old attorney, who is currently preparing to enlist, in hopes of one day becoming a QP. I would be happy to further explain my drastic change in career via personal message, but for here, suffice it to say that if I stick with my current career, I fear I will live a life of regret. I want to live my life with purpose and to do something I believe in -- rather than following a path that was chosen for me, going through the motions just to earn a paycheck.
Anyway, for the past few months I have been training through a program run by a former PJ (with assistance from former SF guys and others from the SOF community). Mentally and physically I believe I am ready; however, before I sign on the dotted line, I need to decide whether to join National Guard or active duty.
Though somewhat arbitrary, I am leaning towards NG because I have had better experience with the recruiter and have heard good things from current QPs in NG. My only concern is being able to pay the bills if there is down-time between training and deployments. I doubt I will be able to continue working as an attorney if I earn the tab, so I am afraid of earning only part-time pay if, for example, I have to wait a month between OSUT and Airborne School. My contacts have not been able to be too helpful with this question, so hopefully I can find a thread on here that addresses my concern. Other than that, I'm ready to roll, and I hope to be posting my shipping date soon!
Before I wrap this up, I just want to thank all the QPs who contribute to this site. The information you provide has been invaluable.
Hello my name is Chris. I am 28 years old and have been reading forums on this site for about 2-3 months. I joined the CAANG in October of 2012 as a 68W. I am currently waiting to sign an 18x contract. Prior to joining the military I was a business consultant in the automotive industry. I would like to thank everyone who has made this site what it is today.

I am 29 years old with a wife and daughter. I've been a cowboy on ranches all over the West since highschool and a couple years of college, enjoy studying foriegn languages, speak French and Spanish well enough to have a crude conversation, and am familiar with Russian, German, and Arabic. If every goes as planned, I am hoping to sign an 18X contract soon. I've been lurking here for a while trying to glean every useful detail I can from any source possible. Thanks for all of the help already received from this site.

Gents, Have been a member of the Professional Soldiers community for quite some time, but I am just now posting my introduction. Sometimes it is best to just stay silent for a bit. I am currently the Company Log NCO for A Co 20th GSB, which for most of you this GSB concept is new but quite an asset in supporting the operations and high optempo we operate off of. I have been a member of the Special Operations community for a while now and had many great experiences with the 20th. There are so many things I have learned and gotten a chance to be a part of since I became a member of the Special Operations community. I can't say enough great things about the guys from My first ODB, and all of the ODA's I worked with who made my move to the Battalion level possible. Here's to many more years and great times, and a salute to all of the Operators who make my job as support possible, De Oppresso Liber.

Hi,
I grew up as a world traveller, Navy Civilian, speak 2.5 languages, meet minimum PT requirements, love playing with guns, love being out in the woods with a pack, love teaching, love interacting with strangers, love my God who first loved me.
Dreams of being a Quiet Professional at Glen Arm, but distracted by quirks of civilian life and fearing to fail at something that has defined my values all of my life.

Hi,
I've dreamed of being a Green Beret since I joined the Army 12 years ago. I just went to SFAS for my second time and got selected. I can't wait to start the training pipeline. One thing I've learned in my small experience with SF is that the men who undertake this endeavor want to be there, and most are really great guys.

Hello to everyone,
I'ld like to present myself. I'm a student in criminology. Outside of my studies, I'm incredibly passionate about the military history, and more particularly the early stages of the Operation Iraqi Freedom.
When I have some time, I like focusing on a particular event that happened during OIF and make a detailed article about this. Just consider me as an amateur historian ;) This time, I chose to focus on Special Forces operations in Northern Iraq in March and April 2003. I guess some of you were deployed in Iraq at that time. I hope I'll have the opportunity to learn some on this forum. By the way, if some of you have informations and pictures you can share that I could use for my article, that would be much appreciated ! :o
However, I have to admit I'm not familiar with the OPSEC rules as I'm not a soldier, so I don't know if this is still applicable for the beginning of the Iraq war (I mean, the war is over now, and in a few days, that'll be the 11st birthday of the beginning of the war ) ? If someone can clear my ignorance about it, that'ld be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading !

Hey Guys,
I am 23 years old and currently contemplating an 18X contract. I graduated from college in 2012 and immediately entered the workforce, finding myself in the finance field. I did not plan on being in finance/business for too long, but today, I am still here. I have recently been contemplating an 18X contract for several reasons. Most importantly, I want to be in a profession where I can help out and give back to those who are less fortunate than I have been. In addition to this, I want to experience the world first hand. There is only so much information you can gain from books and stories. I believe that the experience makes the man. As far as life goes, I wish to be the best. In order to be the best, I must be selected by the best. That being US Special Forces. This is my main goal and mission at this point in life.
I have been doing a great deal of research on my own and have joined this site in order to gain even more knowledge. I look forward to learning from all of you.
Very Respectfully,
SV

Good Evening,

Every time I have a question I seem to be able to find the answer. Thank you for allowing me to join the site and sharing all the knowledge.

Good Afternoon,
My name is Paul, I am 19 years old and attend North Eastern University in the pursuit of a business degree. I've spent some time sifting through the forums over the past few years and thought it was about time to introduce myself to this fine community.
I have great interest in the military, it's SOF units, and the intel community. I've been lucky enough to have met a few people from these various communities and it's always been a pleasant and enlightening experience.
If you're wondering what the "YM" in my name stands for, that was from a few years back when I spent a good chunk of my time in the Young Marines program. It's comparable to JROTC and it opened my eyes to the military in a very new way.
I look forward to the further exploration of this site and into joining in the great conversations and debates that happen here.
Thank you for your time and your service.
Be well and stay safe,
Paul Cating.

Howdy,
For the purposes of this site, I will go by Rick. I am 24 years young and graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2012 with a B.S. in Legal Studies (Minor in Criminal Justice). Currently, I am working at a law firm as a Legal Assistant and it is boring as hell.
I signed my 18X contract earlier this month. Ship up to Ft. Benning at the end of May and begin OSUT the first week of June. Airborne begins in September, then off to Ft. Bragg.
I am very excited to begin training (officially) and join this elite brotherhood upon completion of the SF pipeline.
Thank you for all the invaluable information and advice made available to all who are interested, and more importantly, thank you all for your service.
Best,
Rick

Hi all,
Thank you for this very important and informative forum. I'm not SF, I'm AV - retired. I've turned into sort of an informal recruiter, as many kids in my area seek me for advice on joining the service. I am being asked about Special Operations more and more than even my own branch lately, so I've come here to learn what to tell them.
Plus, Aviators need heroes too.

My name is Rob and I am a senior at Trinity College, CT right now. I am the captain of the Varsity Rowing Team and I am finishing up my History major. I have wanted to serve in the military for awhile and since I am about to graduate I have been looking more specifically at what I want to do. Special Forces is something I have been looking at very seriously because of the reputation and impact they have across the globe.
Finally I just want to say thank you to the guys who set up this site both because it has helped me immensely and for your service. I haven't had the chance to serve yet and I will always owe a debt of gratitude to those who have.
My name is Mike. Spent some time in 1/75 in the late 70's. Had a break in service and was a Miami Cop for a few years. Got recalled back to active duty and spent time in 2/7, SWC, 2/7 and 3/7 as an NCO and an officer. Did my last 2 years in the 82nd after CGSC and retired in '06. Earned my PharmD in'11 and work in the ED at an Army hospital.

Hello Silent Professionals. As you can see I have chosen to be known by the name Caretaker. It’s a moniker that resulted from accidently referring to myself as a caretaker rather than a caregiver while serving that role for my grandmother in hospice. Since I feel I got more from the experience than I gave, the name seemed appropriate. I am a financial professional in the twilight of my career. I am looking to learn whatever you’re willing to share. Thank you for the opportunity.
Hi, all,
I'm a NC author who has posted here in the past and previously posted on the old special-ops forums. I see a few familiar names here but wanted to follow protocol and re-introduce myself.
Several of my recurring characters are SF soldiers. My dad was in the Army and fought in the Korean Conflict. I suspect growing up observing the friendships he formed with fellow soldiers and how strong they were throughout his life informs my work and has a lot to do with the characters I create.
Right now I'm in need of some info on retirement - specifically avg. age of retirement from elite units as well as from the Army itself. And a ballpark range of what a career SF'er would get in retirement income. I won't be using exact numbers but want to have an understanding of what might be a "norm."
PMs are fine and if no one responds from this message I'll post the questions in General Discussion.
Thanks for all you do.

Hi everyone,
I've been on this forum since 2009. More of a reader than contributor.
I figured it would be a good idea to reintroduce myself.
I am 25 years old. I worked at SWC from 2009-2010, G6/NCOA. That was a pretty awesome experience.
Recently I joined the ARNG in NC. I am shipping to BCT in July, followed by OCS.
Wearing the long tab is one of my goals and what I am working towards. :lifter
So far this community and contributions have given me great insight, and I have learned a bit. As time progresses, I think this forum will become more relevant/pertinent to me, in order to prepare for one of my biggest challenges/goals.

Hello,
I'm a 22 y/o soon to be college graduate. I'm starting graduate school this fall where I will be enrolling in ROTC and plan to commission as a 2LT in two years time.
I plan on using these next few years to learn how to be the best officer I can be and prepare to submit my packet to SFAS when the time comes.
I've been reading through everything on this site and I will continue to do so for years to come.
Good morning,

Hello,
I'm a 21 year old student at the moment who just signed an 18x contract last week. I've been a reader of this forum for a long time and wanted to finally sign on and introduce myself. Thank you for having me.
Hello,
I hope this is not too long-winded:
I am currently a 22-year-old college student from Iowa. I am a SPC in my very early military career. Before learning about PS.com, I was scouring the web and books such as the Get Selected! series for every scrap of reliable information I could find, as my new-found fascination for the quiet professionals was growing.
Through my reserve unit connections, I found this site, as well as the 20th SF group and their readiness assessment process. I am making a visit over to the Marseilles Training Area this weekend and hope that I can earn a chance to make SF a reality for me.
I am studying psychology, and am near-fluent in Spanish. My passions include learning (though the Prussian model of the U.S. is not my favorite medium for this), fitness and sports, philosophical thought, and ballistics.
I enjoy the warrior spirit found in all SOF, but my dream of becoming SF is founded in their unique interaction in the human medium and the idea that the mind is a more powerful tool than the weapon.
My intentions on this site are to quietly gather more information about the SF culture and hopefully incorporate this into my own journey. To find a mentor here would be a dream come true, far-fetched as that may be.
I look forward to the future eagerly hoping SF will be part of mine.

Hello Friends, been watching the posts on this site for a few years and finally rogering up. I was selected in Mar 2012, then (as a guard guy) went overseas working for OGA for almost 7 years. Currently re-enlisting in NG as a GSC guy.

Hi, I'm a guest - my fiancée is going through the 18D course right now (I think that's how you say that...)
I'm a dual army 'brat' and going to continue the cycle to be a wife soon. (Yes, I know getting married during the Q is generally a bad idea).
Since I won't have much to contribute, and will only be reading the posts, I figured it was a good idea to still introduce myself. I'm just trying to learn all that I can about what I'm getting ready to marry in to, so I can best support my fiancée.

.
I am a private currently in AIT to be a 68c (LPN). I recently discovered and researched SF and now wish I had chosen an 18x contract. I am 20, highly motivated and open to all advice and insturction.
Thank you very much for accepting me into your community. I enlisted in the Marine Corps leaving a very abusive home in 1988, and even went open contract, to get the earliest date I could. I really did not know the Marine Corps had anything, but tough looking men that shot things, and while at Parris Island, my manhood shrunk to peas when I realized I could be anything from cook to admin to (man I have no idea).
In any case I ended up a 6466 Avionics FLIR tech and was stationed with MALS 11 in El Toro working on DRE's for the A6, and F/A-18 FlIRS. Did a deployment to Iwakuni in support of MALS 12, returning to EL Toro not 6 months later, 11 months later at the end of Desert Storm.
Finished my enlistment out in 1992 and went off to school with the goal of becoming an Infantry Officer in the Marine Corps and lead Marines at the Company level (Head scratcher I know...Avionics to Infantry....OCS, TBS, IOC...anytime someone ready to give me a hard time for something I did wrong you would hear, "WHERE IS MY ROCKET SCIENTIST."
Upon completion, I served as Weapons Platoon Commander for 2/3 Echo and later XO for 2/3 Echo based out of Marine Corps Base Kaneohe from 96-98. Deployed to Hansen, and was small boat company for the 31st MEU on the Belleau Wood in 97. I was your basic line Infantry Officer who worked hard to be the best leader I could for my Marines and maintain contact with many today. We trained hard, did not do any high speed low drag type of things most on this forum have, but we were ready for the call, and I consider myself lucky now that when I resigned my commission in 1998, that while I had dreams of gloriously leading my men in battle, I left with no such war stories. Still I am very proud of my service, and due to any lack of direction growing up, it was the Marine Corps that taught me to be the man I am today, and strive to be the best husband I can be to an awesome wife, and the best dad I can be to an amazing 12 year old daughter.
I am an IT Consultant now, and the lessons from the Corps have served me well, and I feel very lucky to have the life I have. My three closest friends are TBS and IOC classmates of mine and we are still as close as brothers today.
I live in Philadelphia with my family and our favorite activity is being in the mountains skiing and snowboarding as much as possible. My daughter is a nationally ranked slalom skier for her age group and is pursuing her dream to represent our country on the US Ski Team in time for the 2018 Olympics.
As I look at how much the Corps has done for me, I am now at a point that I want to give back and support our warriors in any way I can. Sr. Chief Don Shipley's "Phony Navy SEAL of the Week" opened my eyes to how sick some people can be in pursuit of stolen valor, and while I have met many "Force Recon" Marines and "SEALs" throughout my life in various watering holes, etc., I always informed them of my humble role, pride in it, and walked away sad for a loser with low self esteem. Perhaps I was naive, but a cursory search of the web opened my eyes to just how bad stolen valor can be with con men and sociopaths out there. It was during this search that I came across this forum as well as SSAT1 on FB of which I am a member.
That being said I am on this forum to support the community in any way I can, help any brother in critical need, and from a selfish point, learn from warriors that served at a more elite level from me with regard to anything from service related items to what your experiences have done for you as you have grown through life.
It is an honor to be accepted in the community among such elite warriors, and I will do my best to learn all I can in this forum, and support the forum.
Best regards,
I am a doc currently in POG land at FT Lee. Planning on attending selection next fiscal year when I get back in shape. I have been reading here to get the knowledge to go. I have deployed to Iraq in 2010 to 2011 and worked with I think 3rd g7th group guys. Want to continue service as special forces to be with the best trained men in the country and serve my country the best I can.

Hello all,
I am an 18x "hopeful". Keeping my fingers crossed that an 18x slot is still available (I am currently waiting for my college transcripts to arrive, that is the only thing holding me back from reserving an 18x slot for MEPS).
This forum has been an amazing resource; thank you all for the time and effort you put in for us hopefuls.
Have a good one,
Chili Wango
(Long story short, Chili Wango is a type of sauce that my swim team used to sell at swim meets for fundraising. Not only was the name an oddity, but who in the world would buy chili wango sauce at a swim meet? I have used the name ever since for "gamertags", "handles", and other internet-related usernames.)
Helo! My name is Luke. I am a 20 year old
leaving for basic in 8 months. I will be an 18x Ray.

Good decision HighRoad. SF Need highly motivated, young blood. It takes dedication, not want (" I want the Green Beret") to make the cut. Always want to learn, the opportunity is endless. You will discover that behind a tall mountain is a even taller peak weighting for you. That is the engine that will drive you there. God be with you. With His help, you will make it. Just remember that: It is a journey that counts. :)
Hi,
I am 25 years old. I grew up overseas and have since made my way to Southern California. I have been a long time lurker on this site and I appreciate all the information to be had.
It is my goal to become a Quiet Professional and am currently in the process of securing an 18x contract.
Any advice or questions are more than welcome. Thank you QP's for providing such a valuable resource in this website.

Hello,
I am a 24 year old college graduate and soldier in the Ohio National Guard. I would like to thank all of those who have come before me. I am currently in the training pipeline with one of the National Guard SF Groups. I use this forum to gain knowledge, tips, and advice as I work towards my goal of attending and successfully passing SFAS.
Hello,
28 years old former Air Force attempting to re-enlist in the Army under an 18x contract. First order of business is to take a color vision exam this week. According to the Air Force I am color blind but they only accept the PIP so I am requesting to take the FALANT and vivid red/green test. After that I'll need to convince my wife this is a good idea.
Thanks everyone involved for creating such a useful resource for all of us that are trying to figure the correct way to go about becoming a QP.

Welcome to the board. If you need to get her permission turn around and reenlist in the AF. You have to make this decision on your own as you will not have her with you during Selection, Training or on a team. You have to man up and say This is what I am going to do and do it or you will not have the mindset to accomplish the long road to a team. She will have to support you whatever your decision or you will never last or she will not last. An SF wife is a unique person and many have fallen by the wayside.
The Eye test is the same one for a flight physical but for the life of me I can not remember if they accept the PHP or FALANT.
Good Luck.......
Hello,
I am currently serving in the TXARNG as an 11C. I have been browsing this site for a long time, and recently registered. My current goal is to score a 300 on my APFT. My 50m target is to attend and pass the SFRE for one of the 19th Group units in Texas. Thank you to all of the QP's on the forum for all of the information presented here.

Appreciate the welcome but I never said anything about permission, just that my next order of business was to get her on board. I'm not sure if you're married or not but when training and preparing for selection I would rather have her support then have an added worry of my marriage failing and losing my son. From what I gather on this board even the smallest distraction or mishap can cause failure along the way so I plan to limit the amount of distractions as much as possible.
Nothing is going to stop me from reaching my goals but if I can reach my goals with my marriage intact that would be the preferred way.

This is the Introductions thread.
We try to keep it relatively uncluttered, for a number of reasons.
Please take personal exchanges to a new thread, or to PM.
Thank you.
