Saludos, QPs and members. My name is EPC and I'm a small business owner. I'm mainly here to read and learn, so I won't be posting much.

I'd also like to thank the QPs for running such a great site and for all of their input. I've been reading through all the different threads here for the past several months and I'm amazed at the amount of information available on not only SF, but various other subjects as well.

Hello,

My name is Grim and I'm currently a college Freshman who plans on getting his degree and enlisting via 18X or infantry. My father spends a lot of time working with Fort Bragg/Fayetteville area soldiers (Veterans Affairs), and if you have any questions regarding the VA, I'd be more then glad to answer them.

Thank you all for your service and sacrifice.

Hello,

My name is Ian. I am 28 years old and a resident of rural New Jersey. I am currently finishing my senior year of a BS in applied physics. I am looking for a career that will allow me to use my education creatively to solve problems with actual real world implications, as opposed to the primarily theoretical work most physics majors end up doing. I would also like to look back in my old age and have a few good stories and an honest belief that I made a difference. A retired army friend suggested I look into OCS, enlisting as a 21B and also Sapper school. When researching those options I discovered the existence of the x-ray program and the 18C MOS, further investigation of which brought me to this site. I’ve been lurking for a few months now, but finally decided to sign up so that I might take advantage the search feature.

When I first came to this site I had questions about equipment, training, possible barriers to entry in my personal history etc. If all I got from this site were the definitive answers from QP’s to those questions, it would be a great resource (and in addition to general thanks to QPs I would like to thank TR specifically for all of the stickies, those have been a gold mine). I’ve learned that kit is just kit and most of that other info is available elsewhere on the net. The biggest service this site has done for me and one that is exclusive to it, has been to allow me as a civilian guest to read your stories and conversations among one another. That has been the best “G2” I’ve gotten, by far. Thank you all.

I have made up my mind that I would be willing to forgo a higher salary and risk my life, comfort and well being so that I may serve a cause I believe in, one greater than myself. However, I had selfishly neglected to consider the sacrifices that would be required of my immediate and extended family under even the most ideal of circumstances. One QP on this board wrote “My kids are growing up without Daddy, largely, and that kills me.” Wow, and I was worried about boots. That got me asking smarter questions, quick. I don’t want to name the author here, given that it’s a very personal quote and not presented in context. But if you see this sir, I want you to know that reading of your specific sacrifice made an impact on me and I am grateful. I have also read the stories of ODAs 525 and 3336 as well as Col. Robert Howard among others.

The work QP’s do (and conventional military, to those who may read this) not only grants me freedom and safety, but men like Col. Howard provide an example of personal excellence while doing it. That inspiration is not unique to military service. When I read these stories I want to be a better stock clerk, student, brother, a better person. They make me want to be someone whose freedom is worth leaving your wife and children to go defend. That is something that I can and will take with me even if I never set foot in a recruiter’s office. And if I do, my goal will be similar excellence, be it in a beret or otherwise.

God bless, Ian

P.S. I just proof read it and it's a little verbose for an intro, maybe even self important. That won't be a trend.

Hello,

I am a current 18x awaiting my ship date to OSUT in the coming months. I have been reading and researching on the site as I continue to train and prepare and have learned a lot from the QPs. Thanks for all you have done and I look forward to following in your footsteps.

Greetings QP's and other military and non-military members of ProfessionalSoldiers.com!

I am not a new member, but I have been away for quite some time; so I figured I would re-introduce myself.

My name is Joe, I am a recent college grad out of Central MA. I have wanted to be a Green Beret for several years now and I am currently working my hardest towards getting in the appropriate shape for such a demanding training pipeline. I I am glad to be back and can't wait to continue learning all that I can!

To those QP's and military members...a very sincere thank you for your dedicated service to this country!

Good morning to all.

A former Marine, current Army reservist in the field of Psychological Operations. I'm also a Fire Fighter/EMT. I came here hoping to glean off of the wealth of knowledge that resides in the minds of such exceptional Warriors. I'm currently waiting for my unit to process my DD368 so that I can move onto Active Army and try my hand at Selection.

Greetings,
I've been a member here for a couple of years, and thought it was time to post an introduction. I served in the IDF Armored Corps during our war with Lebanon in the '80's, first as a gunner in a Merk II, then as a Tank Commander in same. I continue to serve in Reserves.
I appreciate the opportunity to be here, and thank you all for your service.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for having me. I've been visiting the site for close to a year now, reading and absorbing as much as possible. The information I've had access to here has been invaluable.

I've recently enlisted in the MA ARNG (18x) and I'm eager to begin my career in the United States Army.

Once again, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn from the various members here and hope to join the ranks of the QP in the not so distant future.

Respectful Greetings! I am a LTC, USA-Ret who has spent most of my career in the somewhat obscure position of "Politico-Military Affairs Officer" (PSSI 48G). Thus I spent time as a FAO with NATO, an attaché, and with agencies such as USIA (now part of DOS), DOS, CIA, DIA. Pretty much chewed up & spit out by Bragg: SF, CA, PSYOP, & FAO. Did a year in Vietnam 1969-70, all over IIICTZ & elsewhere, wondering why the buttons on the front of my jungle fatigues kept me so far off the ground when things got noisy. Looking for a change of pace from all this Spook stuff, went through Space Intelligence training with the USAF in 1990 and spent my last 4 years as one of the Army's first space officers at HQ USSPACECOM, Peterson AFB & Cheyenne Mountain - which would have been a peaceful place to work except for the occasional ruckus from the Stargate downstairs. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-stargate007.gif (http://www.thescifiworld.net/smilies.htm)

I admire everything I've seen on "Professional Soldiers", and appreciate the opportunity to both learn and contribute. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-greet025.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Currently serving in the Washington Guard (AGR) and plan to talk to the guys at 19th SFG in Buckley to attend selection. Been reading the threads for 3-4 months to prepare and decided to become a member.

Hello everyone, my name is Will and I registered on professionalsoldiers.com after looking for more information on Special Forces. I've read a few books on American Special Forces among other nations' and as an infantryman I've always found myself incredibly inspired to read the accounts of Special Forces soldiers in combat. This inspiration along with a few friends who are in the pipeline now or in other professional military units has lead me to believe it is in my future to become a Special Forces qualified soldier and that is what a lot of my time and energy is going towards now.

Pretty bold talk.

Might want to chew that one bite at the time and take a big swig of humility along the way.

Hello all. I have been in the National Guard for eight years. I have served on a SOT-A team with 19th group, worked in the J-2 of SOD-E and SOCEUR, and worked with JSOC on numerous occasions. I am getting ready to attend SFAS very soon. I have been training for this for years now. In my free time I go hiking on the Appalachian trail, base jumping off some bridges and various cliffs in the area as well as climb them. From time to time I go scuba diving in the Chesapeake bay and Atlantic ocean off the ocean city shore line. A lot of my "idle" time at night is spent reading historical documents as well as reviewing previous battles, the tactics used and the lessons learned by commanders from both sides.

Hello folks,

let me start by thanking all who served and those that serve today. I too, am currently serving active in the Marine Corps. My MOS is 1371 which is a Combat Engineer. I have only made one deployment overseas to Afghanistan, due to fracture before hitting the fleet.

I am coming to the end of my four year term with the Corps and have held an interest in the Army and what they do. I'm not to much of a book reader but have recently started the book 'Chosen Soldier' by Dick Couch. I may soon be an aspiring SF candidate, if all short term plans pan out smoothly.

My name is Steven. I am 21 years of age. I am married with kids and have held numerous open discussions with the wife about the possible future careers, SF being one of them. I will soon start my training once my training cycles come to an end here with my current unit. I will be training for approximately 10 months, while evaluating my self several times throughout the months to see where i stand and what needs work.

I will be using the search button before posting, and have already find many threads that answered many of my previous questions that were in mind.

Thank you all for reading and contributing to ex, current and aspiring SF soldiers and other military members. Have a good night.

Hello all,

I am currently an Intel Analyst serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. I come from an SF family and plan on attending SFAS when I return from Afghanistan. I attended SOPC back in NOV 2007 when I was a Radiology Specialist. I planned on attending SFAS after SOPC, but was pulled for a deployment with 7 days notice. I used that time to better prepare for SFAS so that I would be ready to go as soon as I returned. After returning from Afghanistan, I got in a bad car accident and was told that I would never run again.

3 years and 3 kids later I am in the best shape of my life and will be finally getting the chance to do what I have been training for. I have hopes of becoming an 18D and will not let anything get in the way! My wife is also supportive, so thats a plus :D

Hello, found this site when I was getting ready for SFAS, it helped! I was in class 3-12 which ended in December so it was a little chilly. Currently in SFQC going for French and 18B. Time in service is 8 years now. Previously served with 101st Airborne divison at Ft. Campbell as a Cav Scout. Looking foward to training and soaking in as much knowledge as possible. Thanks for having me.

My name is Ron. I am prior service 1971 through 1984. I graduated Instructor Training Branch in class 72-01. I served at FAFB as a field instructor. I pcs'd to Homestead AFB in 1975. I separated and worked for Northrup Acft for a year in Dahran Saudi Arabia, then with DoD, and finally went to Dept. OF State in 79. I have worked in many of the countries in middle east and Africa. Many of the men I worked with were former SF or Navy. I have trained many times with Army, in several different schools. I was impressed with the quality of the people who I worked with and that has changed how I ran my squads. I am honored to be on this site. I am a former Air Force Survival Instructor , Air Force Specialty code P92170. I intend to lurk, as a guest and learn. I initially was looking for some men that I served with in the late 70's early 80's. I appreciate the privilege. I hope to represent the AF in a positive manner on this site.

I would like to find a Quiet Professional in my AO though, so if anyone wants to go for a run or spend a day at the range clearing malfunctions, let me know.

Hey fellas,

I'm a Reserve MISO (PSYOP) Team Leader. Did 2 tours in AFG 07-08 and 11-12. I just transferred to AD as a 91B to keep my rank of SSG. I plan on submitting a SFAS packet when I arrive to my new duty station. I've always wanted to join SF and when the opportunity arose, I took it, though it may take longer than I anticipated.

I've been lurking here for a couple years now and I always find great information. I look forward to contributing where I can and absorbing what I need to make a successful career in the SF community.

Hello,

I am a Rifle Platoon Leader stationed in Anchorage, AK. I am a graduate of Ranger School (08-11), Airborne School, Air Assault School, Summer and Winter phases of Mountain Warfare School, and Northern Warfare School's Basic Mountaineering Course. I also have a 1/1 proficiency in Pashto. My time line for submitting an SF Packet is getting close and I am here to learn and understand more about the SF mission and way of life. I particularity enjoy working with our Afghan partners in Afghanistan and being able to closely interact with the local Afghan population has really brought me a unique sense of satisfaction. It has made me realize that I would like to move into a small unit environment where leaders on the ground are given the ability to make the right decisions and influence a population by developing their own capabilities.

I'm almost 21 years young, currently working on my BA. All my closest friends are in the Army and I aspire to do the same, however I want to be best of the best. I've never failed at anything and I seek a challenge. I feel there's more to life than what I have and I've had this thought lingering in the back of my head since I was a mere child. I have 2 years left on my BA and I plan on singing an 18x contract and shoot for 18D. As most people who join these forums, I'm here for tips.

Most if not all my answers I've ran across are covered (thank you search bar) so I probably won't be posting much, or at all. Simply lurking.

Hi,

I'm 28 years old. I joined the Marine Corps in '07 as a 2671 Arabic linguist. I was stationed at Ft. Gordon for 3 years. I helped with SIGINT and translations for a joint CT TF in Iraq for about 6 months in Iraq before they closed the base down. I just EAS'd in February and recently joined the AL ARNG as an 11b for C Troop 131 CAV (LRS) (AIRBORNE). Currently, I'm in contact with some SOT-A guys from 20th about transferring up there as a linguist.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

My profile pretty much sums up my military career.

As you might surmise from the screen name I was Armor, not SF, but I like to think I did my part... and I find the number of SF posers fascinating, especially those posing as SF who had perfectly honorable service in another branch.

In fact, most of my interest in this site is the "Wall of Shame", which is what leads me to my first post, but I suspect that is a topic for another thread in another place.

Hello, everyone.

I'm thirty, female, Texan, and like to lurk here. My Army career was about six months long--medical discharge--and I certainly didn't do anything high speed while I was in.

However, when I came out of the Army, I had a better understanding of what the military's like and, therefore, have more respect for service members and families. Thank you for serving, everyone.

My name is Bobby. I'm a 24-year-old construction worker from Indiana. I introduced myself a long time ago and didn't know there was a crash. I was in SOPC class 09-12 and I'm waiting for the next SFAS class to roll around. I was NG for 5 years before getting the 18X contract and coming Active Duty. I took a bump from E-5 to E-4 but it was worth it and SOPC was a good experience. I look forward to learning more.

Greetings,

My friends call me Byrneski. I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I am a 18X SF candidate, and shipping out to Fort Benning for OSUT in November, 2012.

Pursuing this route was an obvious choice. To serve my country among some of the most elite soldiers all the while pushing my limits was something I always aspired to accomplish. SF more so than any other unit grabbed my attention because the emphasis put on intellect and social dynamics just as much as tactics.

I'm preparing physically and mentally for this arduous yet exciting journey as best I can, keeping my eyes and ears open first.

Quiet Professionals,

I am a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy.
I was deployed for OEF 10'-11'.
I aspire to become an SF soldier. I have about 6 years to prepare, so this is definitely a long term goal that I have started training for (basically staying healthy - eating right and smart PT).
I hope to gain all the knowledge I can about SF to better prepare me to reach my goal.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning/afternoon/evening,
My name is John, and I am a 1LT currently deployed to Afghanistan. In April I was notified that I was given the opportunity to attend selection, and I will be attending SFAS in January.
I have found this site extremely helpful, and I appreciate the preparation advice given in the forums.

Hello all,

I am Matt from Charleston, SC. I am 24 and currently deployed to Kuwait with 4-118 Infantry (SC Guard) after our mission to Afghanistan was cancelled. I completed 2 NQP drills with 3/20 SFG out of Roanoke Rapids and was on my way to my third when deployment popped up.

My ambitions are to return, pick up where I left off, and complete the required NQP drills over again to earn a slot for SFAS.

I look forward to cruising through the topics here and contributing where I can.

Names Joseph, I was a Navy Master at Arms and was discharged about 8 months ago. Been a lurker for a few months now and what mainly brings me here are gear, weapons and the infuriating and sometimes hilarious wall of shame.

Always respected the members of the SF community, you fine gentlemen made it so while I was standing fixed post I wasn't getting my ass shot at here in the states, For that I will be forever grateful.

Thought about re-enlisting frequently though I'm not sure I'd go back to the Navy, probably try out the Army for a change. But for now ill continue with college and my aspirations of being an LEO.

SF is truly one of the greatest humanitarian works in philosophy and practice, and probably one of the greatest peacekeeping measures as well.

Great work men!!! I hope to have the privilege of joining you in the work.

Probably won't post, here just to read, educate myself and research.

I'm 30 years old and have been in the National Guard for 2 1/2 years. I just recently passed selection (Class 10-12) and will be starting Q as an 18D in the late spring or early summer.

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the men on this site and the SF community at large. This site has been extremely helpful to me and it is my goal to give back to the community in any way that I can.

All interested,

Former Active Duty Navy Intelligence Analyst and current B/2/20th hopeful.

I am in the process of enlisting with the Maryland Army National Guard and trying to get into the local LRS unit so I can mature as an 11B and have more training opportunities before screening for B/2/20th. I don't plan on attending SFRE until I've spent some time within whichever unit I end up getting attached; I want to make sure I am fully prepared and have a little experience under my belt, even if that means volunteering for a deployment.

I've come to admire the SF mission, the Creed, and the Prayer. Helping people in need and defending the defenseless. Taking action when needed.

Being able to balance a family life with your SF duties is what caught my attention to the ARNG. As long as things pan out, I can achieve both my goals: finishing my Undergrad and becoming a Quiet Professional.

I thank all of the current Quiet Professionals and SOF personnel for defending our freedoms and sacrificing everything. I hope one day I too can join the ranks.

Respectfully,
TDC

Hello,

My name is Eugene and I am 20 years old and was recently awarded an 18x contract at an SFRE event in AL. It is a great privilege to have access to this wealth of information directly from Quiet Professionals and I will do my best to receive as much of it as I can while leaving a minimal footprint before I depart for training.

Thank you all for taking your precious time to assist assets like myself and most of all, thank you for your largely unrecognized service to our country and the difference you make in the world.

It is an honor.

Hello QP's. I'd like to start off by saying thank you for creating this incredible site, filled with invaluable information and first-hand experience.

I'm 23 years old and in May 2012 I graduated from college with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Psychology. I live in Pennsylvania and have been interested in serving my country since my childhood, particularly through Special Forces. In September I enlisted in the Army with an 18x MOS contract as an E-4. I leave for OSUT at Fort Benning, GA on March 11, eager to start my journey through the pipeline.

While I realize no civilian can truly know what to expect from the SF pipeline without actually completing it, I believe that I can gain the best 'possible' understanding by utilizing the countless tools this site has to offer. I look forward to learning from the experiences of the QP's on here. Thank you for your dedication and service to our country, and I hope to one day earn the privilege to serve along side you.

I completed my degree in criminal justice and planned on enlisting after graduation. I had trouble at meps because of a couple of knee surgeries I went through after graduation and football was over for me. I w offered 11x but not Airborne because I had a medical waiver.

I'm here to explore any other options I may have to get a shot at getting to selection.

My name is John. I enlisted an E-1 in march of 2009 as an engineer in the Reserves. This wasn't what I was looking for in the Army. After NTC in 2010 I started the process of getting a conditional release. I spoke with an active duty recruiter who informed me of a lack of slots for prior service to re-class 11B. I then spoke with a National Guard family friend. He hooked me up with another recruiter who eventually got me an 11B slot in the guard where I MOSQd. After round two of NTC we mobilized for deployment. Now I'm here in Afghanistan basically being an armored taxi service for POGs who take valuable down time from us to congratulate each other on performing their daily tasks which they equate to achieving superior firepower, while giving each other coins and awarding themselves with ARCOMs like they're sugar packets in a box next to their coffee machine.

My immature dissatisfaction aside, this is not a world I belong in. There is no pride or honor in anything I can hope to achieve here. ASAP I'm running as far and fast away from this hiccup in my carreer in the National Guard to pursue a life as an 18B.

Anyone who reads this and has the time to shoot me a message with some guidance and a little mentoring, it would be well recieved.

Hey guys,
Firstly thanks for the opportunity to join the website. I'm a 39 year old Australian living in New Zealand. I have no prior military service and certainly respect those that serve. I do like to read and found this site to have a plethora of information to keep me busy with what goes on in the SF world which I find interesting.

My interests involve trekking and keeping fit mostly and I have already found some useful information to help with a trek in the New Guinea jungle I'll be undertaking again some time in the near future.

So once again thanks and most of all stay safe.

Hello

My name is Jeff and I am in my mid-late 20’s and will start a military career of some type in the near future. I’m looking between pilot or spec ops. I’m not sure but am doing research on my options now. I go before an Air Force Board in February for an opportunity to receive a pilot slot but nothing is assured. If that ends up as a no go my next option will be a spec ops contract. Not 100% sure on the branch but I have time to learn about each and make my decision.

About Me:
Like I said before I’m in my 20’s. I have an Associate’s in Engineering Studies, a Bachelor’s in Physics, and I am completing my Master’s in Engineering (just under a year left). Out of high school I spent 7 years as a Firefighter, the last 3 of which I served as a Lieutenant and for the last 4 years I have worked for the US Government, Department of Homeland Security.

I am 19 years young and would consider myself a student at this point. While getting ready to start my classes for my EMT-B over a year ago I became very interested in the military and what it has to offer. I now hold my EMT-B certificate and am halfway through my EMT-I classes. I have decided I want to finish paramedic school before joining the military but while still in school I have decided to research as much as I can. If I can attain an 18x contract in a couple years that is what I would choose but it is up to where the military's needs and not mine. I would be more than happy just to serve my country. Thanks all for you service and a well regulated site here.

Sincerely
J

Hi all,

First off I'd like to thank everyone on this board who is currently serving or has previously served.

I'm currently training for Army OCS, and want to be part of the Special Forces. I graduated in 2010 with a BS in Economics and have worked in investment banking and private equity. I'm currently working at a child-safety franchising company.

I don't have any burning questions that compelled me to register, so I'm just trying to absorb what I can from being around the BTDT guys here. Look forward to being a part of this site and thank you all for letting me join!

Hello Men,

I have been working as a Deckhand on a fishing boat for the last few years. This job has afforded me the opportunity to pursue my passions and I've been very lucky. The next adventure in me life is going to be while serving my country. I have always been fascinated with the mission of the Special Forces. It seems like a smart organization and i am going to do my best to help out the force. I hold an 18x-ray contract and i'm currently awaiting my ship date in early Jan.

I am 33 years old, South Asian ethnic background, grew up in 4 countries/continents, speak 8 languages, extremely fit and active - workout regime 5Xdays/week atleast, compete in atleast 2 mud runs every year (one of them being the Camp Pendleton Mud Run), 1st Dan Tae Kwon Do.

my background is a 4 year college degree, successful professional civilian career, but that drive isnt enough for me. Every day i wake myself up or find it difficult to sleep realizing that my life is meant for something greater good than what i am currently doing. A military SF career is my ultimate drive.

My only caveat - I am a US Resident, not a US citizen yet, i plan to file for citizenship papers early next year. Now i know the military processes citizenship applications as well for recruits. There are quite a few knowledgable, resourceful members on this site, who know a lot more, the formal process and exceptions/inside help if any.

I am willing to Give my ALL to dedicate a career in SF. Even more, If you want to beat the bad guys, it helps, if you look like them, speak like them, and blend like them, and thats a natural for me :) Any pointers, suggestions, on how i can acheieve this target.

I know I shall be competing and going up against talented men of all sorts, but not every day, a guy with ethnic background, global knowledge, experience, 8 language skills, leaves his really well paid (6figure) corporate job, because this is where his heart is. Any help and advice is much appreciated.

I know this site is monitored by many SF/formerSF members. if you have an interest in my profile or would like to mentor/coach me, please reach me at

Hello there,

I am a 25 year old planning on signing my 18x contract in a couple of weeks. I have been reaseaching on this site for a couple of months and have waited till now to join. I promise to be quiet, listen and learn. Right now I am focusing on getting my weight down. Was a D3 college defensive end. Not fat, just want to be safe when they break out the tape measurements for bf that I pass. I can ace my PT scores, but if they fail me for being 260 at 6'5", I my have to defer. I have been rucking for a month and leaning out quickly. Doing a couple of crossfit workouts a week to keep my anerobic system up. Eating clean and doing everything. Hardly touching the weight room... besides the 100 lbs. oak log I have in the bed of my truck that I play with at the park.

Thats about it. I have a cousin thats an 18D in 1st group. We come from a military rich family history. Looking forward to adding on to it.

Hello,
I'd like to introduce myself, I'm 18 years old and have just recently enlisted as a 11x in the Army. Right now I'm focusing on getting ready for BCT, and have been wanting to enlist since an early age. I was always being told stories of my Grandfather who served in Vietnam (3rd force Marine Recon.) I hope to eventually get the chance to attend SFAS and all that comes after, but for now I'm here to learn what I can at the moment, and take away knowledge that could help me in the long run as a person, and as a Soldier. I have a ton of respect for everything you guys do, and I'm glad to be here. Thank you.

Hello everyone, I was in the Marines, from 87-93', nothing special just a lowly REMF as I was called at one time. My squadron was in Bahrain during the Gulf War which everyone has probably passed through at one time or another.
I have the utmost respect for your organization. My interest is posers who say they are "Green Berets" as well as any other service member.. I can't stand a thief or a liar so this gives me some insight on what to look for. I can't believe there are people out there with fake papers saying they have served!
Thanks for your help Team Sergeant.

Good Morning,

I'd like to say that I come from a family that has deep military roots. I'm a firm believer that freedom is not free and that it is every American Citizen's responsibility to support his/her country by joining or supporting the military.

I'm a civilian nurse and have wanted to join the military since I was a child, of course wanting to be anything from being a pilot to K-9 handler. I know that with the decision for my career, I was born to save/help people, I take great pride in my work as a nurse despite the normal gender role.

Even though I love what I do, I feel as if I can do more. With my clinical background I feel it would be advantageous to set out on a path of a Special Forces Medic.

I am currently gathering all my paperwork for the recruiter and it should be assembled by the end of the month. I have looked at all the branches of the military and feel that the relationship I could have with the Army would be beneficial to both of us.

I have just recently joined this forum, but I have been viewing it for the past few months as a guest gathering the information needed for my decision.

I look forward to joining your ranks, if allowed the opportunity.

Take care,
Ruger

Sorry so late posting an intro.

I am and have always been a student of modern military history. I have never served and would be considered more of a "never gonna be" than a wanna be. We are missionaries working in the jungles of SE Asia, always off road, a lot of walking involved, carrying big loads. So it has been interesting reading the advice and questions about feet care, carrying loads, etc., as I have learned to do things from experience.

Greetings to all,
I found this site "googling" around, trying to read as much as possisble about the SF.
I am prior service, spent just a few years in the active army in the 80s, I have the privilege of representing countless Veterans in obtaining well deserved benefits from the VA as a American Legion Service Officer. While these things have proved to be very satisfying, I believe my most gratifying accomplishment has been raising a son that may soon be selected to train as a SF soldier.
My son signed a 18x contract in August 2011, as I type he is on day 19 of SFAS.
I have to say that reading these posts have filled me with peace and assurance that Jon has in fact answered his calling. If my son is going to serve in this mans army then I am thrilled that he is going to be with the caliber of men that make up the SF. Thank you QPs Rebecca

I'm here to learn more about the SF community as well as gear and TTPs. I also want to see how I can use my skills to benefit charities like the Green Beret Foundation and Operation Once Voice as well as the SF community directly.

I grew up most my knee-high years being an army brat. My father was a Cavalry Scout for 16-17yrs. We lived all over the United States and in Germany, twice. I grew up my entire childhood listening to my father's fun and exciting stories of the military. The Army family was a close extension of my real family and played a huge role in my childhood. Every holiday, especially Christmas, our apartment / townhouse / or single-family house was full of my dad's Army buddies, who didn't have families close by to spend the holiday's with. My dad finally retired when the Army offered early retirement for E6's and E7's , which he promptly took. I was roughly 13yoa. After leaving the military, my family moved to the midwest, where my father became a police officer.

When we first moved to the midwest, I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I graduated high school. Join the Army. I picked my high school solely on the fact that they offered an Army JROTC program. After doing two years in the JRTOC program, like all high schoolers, it was quickly replaced with the "Chasing Tail" program. I pursued this program all the way to graduation.

After graduation, I applied for an apprenticeship program through the local law enforcement station, following my father's foot steps. It was a program that taught young minds the in's-and-out's of law enforcement / police duties. Upon completion, I would be automatically placed into the subsequent recruit class. The normal wait time outside the program was two to four years just to get selected for the academy / recruit class.

After a year and half of the apprenticeship, 9/11 hit. I still remember where I was and what I was doing, when the cowards struck the towers. It was still early in the morning when I had just gotten off work. I took my uniform off in my bedroom and flipped on the boob tube as I sat down at my desk, kicked my feet up, and waited for the sandman to pay me a visit. After about twenty minutes, the live footage just came streaming in like a blown dam. After watching for a few minutes, I saw the second plane's carnage as it screamed into the remaining the tower. I quickly woke up my entire family and we all watched in absolute anger and frustration. I can honestly say that was the first day I felt all emotions hit me all at once like a pregnant woman; sadness, rage, frustration, helplessness, etc. The proper bi-product of teen hormones.

A week after 9/11, I decided I wanted... No, I needed to join the Army and fight for my country. After work, roughly 8am, I drove to the closest Army recruit station, ready to sign whatever they gave me. As soon as I reached the station doors, they were locked. Came to find out, the recruit station didn't open up till 9am. I just chuckled to myself and went home, where my mom was cooking breakfast. I told her what I wanted to do and begged her not to tell my dad. She was quiet for a while but eventually agreed. I ate breakfast, showered up, and went back to the recruit station. I spoke to the recruiter, who gave me very little information on the Army life, other then he could have me shipped to basic within the week. The recruiter pressured the hell out of me to sign a contract. The pressure hit a breaking point and I immediately became defiant. I walked out, pissed off. I went home to collect my thoughts and figured I would talk to the "old man". My dad, who was also an Army recruiter for a few years, was a straight shooter. We talked for hours about the recruiter / “recruiting process”, the great times in the Army, along with the bad times. Ultimately in the end, he didn't want me to go in and give up my young promising career in Law Enforcement. Mind you, my father was my hero and inspiration in life. I conceded and agreed.

I graduated the Academy and reported to my first assignment. After OJT, I was immediately moved to the busiest car in the area. After a year, I was recruited to a proactive unit, where I'm still currently assigned. One thing I can definitely attribute to my success is my work ethic, which I learned from my father. Other units also recognized this and at one point, I was almost kidnapped to a bigger, more-specialized unit. I developed so many friendships within my unit that I begged to stay. After several years, I was so preoccupied with work the Army dream fell to the way side. Out of sight, out of mind.

The spark started to come back around the beginning of 2011 when my brother wanted to join the Army. He was 28 and wanted to change his life. In his 20‘s, all he did was work construction and play video games. Realizing he needed a change, he spoke to a recruiter and wanted out of his norm. Due to his GED and after signing his contract, he had to wait till January of 2012, a whole year, to start basic. During his waiting period in ’11, the spark started to come back and was kind of like a small itch that would come and go. In Nov. ’11, the spark turned to a raging fire. I wanted to the join the Army but I wanted to do something exciting, memorial-able, and challenging. I spoke to my wife about my plans to join the National Guard. She all agreed. Now that I had my wife’s support, I had to figure out what I wanted to do. Earlier, my brother was looking to join the Ranger regiment so I also looked. From what I learned the Rangers conduct direct-action missions where ever they go. I thought to myself, this would definitely satisfy my appetite. Thank goodness for the internet. I spoke to an Army recruiter online and they advised it was not possible in the reserves w/no other opportunities, which left me feeling completely dejected. The recruiter explained (not really) that reserves are only there to support active service. Sometime went by and I ended up running into one of my old friends and patrol partners, who was a First Sgt in the Army. He brought up going NG SF. He also advised we had a few people within the Dept. who were in the NG SF's. So I thought this would be my chance to open the door and take a peek, sort-of-speak. After doing a bit of online research regarding, I had a chance to speak with one of the NG SF’s where I work. I would have never guessed what he did as a "Side Job". He was quiet, reserved, and in phenomenal shape. Funny thing is, we never really talked about SF or even the National Guard. But from that point on, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I've done a ton of online research, spoke to a number of Hero-On-Calls, one that put me in touch with a NG SF operator through email. The operator was absolutely, blunt, and honest, which I can appreciate. So the plan is to get an 18x contract by mid 2013. In the meantime, prepare my mind and body for the rigorous training.

Update on my brother, who is an absolute inspiration, graduated Basic and AIT with flying colors and was offered a Ranger contract. He went to Airborne and RASP, which he graduated. With a flip of a switch and complete dedication, he went from the bottom of the mountain straight to the top.

I am 21 years old and am currently serving in the US Army as an Apache helicopter mechanic. I never gave SF a thought until I was deployed and noticed the SF guys at my FOB and all the great work they do and the stories i've heard from the Blackhawk crew chiefs. I'll have to wait a year or so before I can even consider going to selection. But as days go on the more I think about giving it a shot.

Hello Everyone,
I'm SGT F, most call me F or F (admin edit, no names if you are active duty). I am currently in Doha, Qatar. I've been here one week out of a year tour. As you can see in my profile I am a 14H. I provide early warning to everyone around the globe, most importantly our homeland and deployed forces. As of right now I am working every spare moment I have towards completing my degree in Space Studies/Mechanical Engineering and preparing for selection. With my job I can eventually become a liason for NASA but while I'm in service that isn't what I want. I've given it plenty of thought and researched my options and it always boils down to the same thing, I need to follow my heart and be Special Forces. Everyday at work has been a challenge in many ways. Those around me are generally closeminded and have no desire to improve themselves or the Army. I am alone in absolutely everything I do. Regulations are an option in their eyes and they are all ETSing ASAP. The harder I work the more grief I catch. For example: When rucking to work one day I was called in to the office and told that my gear was not a toy and shouldn't be treated as such. It was suggested that I utilize a personal bookbag with weight to replace my ruck. So I could rant for quite a while but that isn't my goal. I have talked to the recruiters already while at Carson and have had my questions answered on what I need to do. Today I set up my PT regime using the plan listed in the SF Guidelines. While here in Qatar I will be preparing completely solo. There are SF around here as I've seen but I'm not in touch with any of them at this time. With that I will bring this to a close. Thank you for all who contribute here. I have been blessed to find this website. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hello everyone I'm SPC L. I'm 21 years old , in the reserve component, and am coming off of my first deployment. Coming into the Army I had the intention of making it my career and becoming special forces. The only problem is that I am in the reserve component since I joined under the Army's split op program which automatically puts you in the reserves. Since joining I have tried a few times to switch over to active duty but was turned down for reasons such as not being in the Army long enough, not being in the unit long enough, not being in my MOS long enough, and deployment. I have now been in the Army for nearly 5 years and my intentions have not changed.

Upon returning home from my deployment I want to switch over to active duty and pursue my dream of getting into Special Forces. I am here hoping to gain as much information as possible in regards to switching over to active duty and what it takes to make into Special Forces. I am aware that it is not an easy task switching from reserve to active duty, but I truly believe that it is still worth trying. Any advice or helpful information would be much appreciated.

Hi all,

I am a 21 year old paramedic, currently working for a small fire department in the Midwest. The advanced procedures performed by the 18D are what caught my interest in the SF career field. I am just finishing up my bachelor's degree and just signed an 18X contract. I plan on being very liberal with the search feature and very conservative with my keyboard.

Thank you,

I'm 22 years old with a Bachelor's and I just enlisted today with an 18Xray contract. I'm set to ship out in Feb. and couldn't be more excited. I played basketball in college so I really like the team aspect of SF and that's definitely one of the things that has attracted me to it. I've been doing everything I can to prepare, mostly by following the doctrine laid out by Maj. Martin in Get Selected. I respect everyone serving in the military and look forward to my chance of joining the elite.

Hello to all the quiet professionals out there. Thanks for your service and thank you especially for taking the time to give advice on this website.

A little about myself:

I served with a reserve infantry battalion from 2006-2012 ( MOS 0311). Made it to Iraq once and Afghanistan once. Got my BA in English.

I'm good with languages. I learned a smattering of Arabic in Iraq and quite a bit of Pushtu in Afghanistan. My DLAB scores got me selected for an 8 week Pashtun immersion course prior to my deployment. Doesn't sound like much but it was a big deal for the battalion to send the few that went. I'm studying Arabic now (thank you post 9/11 GI bill).

I do not flex my nuts. Ever.

I read Maj. Martin's book and have made the commitment, mentally, to go to SFAS. I have not talked to a PS recruiter yet. I did get the green light from my better half.

There is a lot of info on this website. I'll post my questions in the designated areas. Any feedback and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

"Get Selected" strongly encourages finding a mentor to assist in prepping for SFAS. I don't live next to an Army installation that has SF assets, so my options are limited. If anyone would be willing to establish a correspondence via email, to answer questions please let me know.

thanks for all the help.

I am a 30 year old father of 3. I've never served in the Military but I have been giving it thought for some time now. I am torn between leaving my wife and kids to pursue a career as a QP to better our chances of success down the road. I'd like to believe getting a job in the private sector would be easier with credentials as a QP but I don't know that to be the case. Like most Americans, we've faced financial problems over the past several years, and the money that comes with deploying would give us a better chance in the future. If anyone on this website is a QP who joined after you started a family, I would appreciate your opinion about leaving your family, so I can understand the hardships you faced or the benefits you got from it. I will continue to search the website for relevant content to answer my questions.

Thank you for the website and your service.

Hi everyone,

My name is SSG , I'm 26 years old and have served in the army reserves for 9 years and counting. My first 3 years were spent as an MP and then I reclassed to become an intel analyst. I've been deployed twice to Iraq, once as an MP and as MI guy. Currently working on getting my bachelors in business management, I'm about 3 semesters away from getting it. I stumbled upon this forum from researching about SFAS and also found out the friend that planted the seed in my head is a almost like a moderator. Lot of useful information on these forums. Can't wait for the SFRE in late Nov.

p.s. my name stands for gi snake eyes. What can I say I grew up watching gi joe, and snake eyes was my favorite character. Should of saw my face when I found out he wasn't asian.

GISE - "almost" like being a mod is similar to "almost" like being a virgin, Aiborne, Ranger, or SF - there is NO almost; either you are or you are not. Non-QPs are guests here. Take care and welcome to PS.Com. Richard

Thank you to the creators of this site for providing a forum that allows non-military individuals with a deep respect for those who serve, prospective "assets" like myself and seasoned SF veterans to be able to converse in a truly multicultural way.
Also thank you, veterans, for your outstanding sacrifice of self and quality family time so that this country can be at its utmost.

I am a 28 year old insurance adjuster who is in the final stages of signing an 18X contract with an approximate ship date of May 2013. I have always felt a higher calling to the military despite an honestly pleasant and successful civilian life and fear that when I'm 40-50 I will look back and wonder why I didn't serve the country that has been so good to me. I am extremely excited and have already begun preparing physically and, more importantly mentally for this arduous but infinitely rewarding journey. I am engaged to a wonderfully understanding woman who has agreed to marry me only a month or so before I ship out.

Quick facts:
Ran cross country/track through high school and college
Was in lower management for a rental car company
Now have an incredible job as a catastrophe adjuster for a major insurance company.

Thank you again for the excellent info found within the boundaries of this site and I look forward to the suggestions and possible public shamings that I have already witnessed administered to those failing to follow simple instructions. :)

I am a 5 year veteran of the Utah National Guard, I spent 3 of those years as a cadet under the stewardship of a ODA team leader. He was my mentor through 3 years of Ranger Challenge, in which I was able to learn more about the Army and myself. I decided to continue my career as enlisted and become a member of Special Forces.
I am in the process of getting all of my admin. paperwork done in order to challenge the REC and attend SFAS. I will not, under any circumstance, accept anything but a career as a Special Forces soldier.
I am also a father, husband, and professional MMA fighter. I spend a lot of my time outdoors; hunting, camping, hiking, anything to stay moving.
That's me in a nutshell.

Placed this intro in the correct thread - it tends to confuse a few ffolkes every now and then. Richard

Hello everyone,

My name is Patrick. I am currently enlisted and assigned to The Old Guard performing ceremonial duties with the Continental Color Guard. I am very honored and proud of the missions I have been assigned, but now that I have put my time in, it's time to take off the clean white gloves and get my hands dirty. I have gained much knowledge about being a soldier during my time here, and my appreciation for all of you serving, and for those who have given their lives, grows more by the day. God bless you.
My sights are set on my next goal; SFAS. I believe I do have what it takes to be chosen for the SFQC and look forward to proving this in February.
After much research on this site, speaking in person with current SF team members, and researching other sources; I have learned a great deal.
I thank you all for taking the personal time to provide such an outstanding resource to men such as myself who strive to be the best at what they do.
I look forward to learning more from you all, thank you very much for having me as a guest.

Hi,
I'm J. 22 years old. I live in Dallas, TX. I've been in the Army Reserve for 5 years. I like the military, but would prefer to serve it in a much different aspect than my current role. I'm a Biomedical Technician at a large hospital and I'm into electronics and think being a Green Beret would be the perfect way to put my skills to use. I'm discliplined, and understand that no amount of information read on a computer will prepare me for selection, or the real world as an operator, but none the less I'd like to see what I can find out beforehand. I look forward to seeing what information I can pick up on and those of you who have the tag "Quiet Professional", thanks for your knowledge.

Hello. I'm 35 years old now and signed up for an 18X contract back in 02. It was a life changing experience. I voluntarily dropped out after three consecutive attempts in SOPC. Hey guys,
My name is Andy Chase I am a Navy FMF Corpsman serving with V38 out of Camp Lejeuen NC. I have been in the Navy going on 7 years, 5.5 of those years with the Marine Corps. Through out my short time in the Navy/Marines, I have had a lot of amazing opportunities, some of the best, were times I got to work and train with some great 18D's. Professionaly speaking there is no one better than a Delta. After hanging out with these guys it sealed the deal. I want the job, and I want the SF brotherhood. Theres a special bond between a Marine and his Corpsman, but it was an entirely different level hanging out with these guys. So, my goal is to finish up this last few years with the Navy, and then go out for SF. Its time to something better with my life than get yelled at because "Doc's hair is too long!"
I look forward to soaking up all the knowledge you gents have to offer.

Cheers

Hello everyone.
I'm 26 years old and in the process of enlisting for an 18x contract. I have an uncle who was in SF for almost 30 years. I never spoke to him about it until I decided to enlist. Between what he's told me and reading through all of the posts here I know I'll be in for a demanding time in SFAS, to say the least. To say I have respect for the Quiet Professionals here would be a vast understatement. I am training myself as a full time job until I ship out and teaching myself map reading plus other valuable skills to be as prepared as possible. I should be down at MEPS in the next few weeks to receive a departure date for OSUT. Until then I'll continue to read, train, and prepare. To me, failure is not an option and I will keep my 25 meter targets in focus. Thank you for this great forum.

From Oregon. I'm a prior 11B did a one 3 year contract for the Old Guard.

I have been out almost a year and lived in Mexico for the first part of the year but now working a desk is killing me slowly inside and will certainly go crazy if I do it life long.

My plan is to go back in under an 18x contract before the end of the year. Currently I am working on getting my run and ruck up to par again as I will not have the OSUT warm up and will be going straight to Airborne School then right into SOPC and what not once I go back in.

Thank you QP's for all of the valuable information and great humor on this forum.

Been a member for awhile but never posted. I have served in the Reserve Component for 14 years (5 Navy, 9 Army National Guard). I served a year in Afghanistan and it was quite the experience. I always loved America but I came home with a renewed sense of appreciation for this great country. I use this forum to keep me motivated to pursue excellence. I also enjoy the wealth of information the Quiet Professionals have to offer. Thank you all (SF) for your service! You are definitely the "Tip of the Spear".

I’ve been a member of PS.com since 2009 and this site was an invaluable resource in my preparation for Selection and SFQC. I have never posted anything on the forums here simply because I used this site as a tool to read, study and learn the things I needed to be successful. Only after graduating the Q-course am I posting an introduction.

However, as a recent Q-course graduate, I understand that only now have I stepped up to the ‘starting line’. So I find myself returning to this website in an effort to continue to learn so that I can make myself a value-added member to my team.

I’ve spent two years enlisted as a 13F, six years as an 11A with one of those in Eastern Afghanistan. Right now, I’m trying to soak up every bit knowledge I can from my NCOs.

In addition, 18C4V is my 18Z and 18C/GS 0602 is my JR 18C.

Hello all, and Thank you for the knowledge you have posted on this site, it has been very helpful.
I am a 25yo 18X canidate, shipping in Spring of 2013.
I have been married for 7 years, and been together as a couple for 10. I am also the proud father of a beautiful 9 month old daughter (at the time of this writing), and a 6 year employee in a medical laboratory.
I found myself looking for a drastic change in my life, so I stopped by the local Army recruiter's office to see what I could do for the country that has done me so well my whole life. As soon as I seen the "18X" contract selection, I knew it was "Go big, or Go home."

Right now, I'm doing my PT everyday, and keeping my eye on that 25m target.

That's quite enough about me, I'll zip it tight, and continue to read and absorb the very helpful and unique knowledge available.

God bless.

Hi, my name is Brad, don't let the username fool you. I am 20 years old and leave for basic training in January. I attended community college for a few years after high school because everyone told me that you have to go to college to be successful. However, I was never at peace there and knew I wanted to do something bigger with my life. So here I am, trying to pursue a way to serve the people around me and the country that I love.

I enjoy any outdoor activity from hunting to snowboarding. And I like to challenge myself physically and mentally.

I owe everything in my life to my savior Jesus Christ. Without Him, I am nothing.

My name is Chris. I'm currently an EOD Team Leader stationed out of Fort Carson Colorado. I was a 11B but decided I wanted something a little more. I had suffered a knee injury which curbed me from going to SFAS, so I decided to give EOD a shot. EOD has turned out not to be what I expected it to be. After working with SF on this deployment, it has definitely reaffirm desire to become a QP. Now that I have a 11B and EOD background, I feel that I have a little more to bring to the table. I've poked around in a lot of the threads and I'm amazed at the wealth of information and knowledge provided by present and former QPs.

Hello Everyone,
I'll start out with giving ya'll the cliff notes on myself. I've been an 11B for the past five years in the guard. While it has been an eye opening experience in many ways, I feel it is either time to try something more challenging or get out.
After meeting one of the current instructors of the Q course at a social event and having a long discourse on the subject, I realized that the type of challenges and autonomy of the Green Berets could be a good fit for my personality and values.
My near term goal(aka 25m) is trying out with the 20th Group in NC upon getting off of my current deployment. I believe the tryouts will be important not just for validating my readiness for Selection but also for me to get a chance to meet members of that unit and ascertain whether we make a good fit for each other. I see SF as a marriage, the people on both sides of the aisle need to be content with the other for it to work.
After perusing through the forum, I have been very impressed with both how it is run along with the many valid questions asked by the guests, this is much different than most forums on the subject of SF.
Great job to everyone who has helped put this forum together and allow for a place for the guests to interact with people who can help them on their journey.

I was somewhere in the middle of Volunteered and drafted, having been married with child at a young age. I always said if you cut my wrist I would bleed red, white and blue. Years ago I made it my passion to understand the Vietnam Conflict. There was so much info on Korea and WWII but not as much on Vietnam. My reading brought me to SF and specifically to MACV-SOG and then to LURP'S. I have been watching this site for a month or so and never felt that I deserved to respond to anyone, as i felt honored to be among you all. Hello Everyone,

I'm a mid-20s male, originally from the East Coast but now living out in California. I graduated from College out here, and have worked a few jobs since then. The thought of serving my country has been in my mind since that Tuesday morning a little over 11 years ago. After going to college and giving the private sector a try for a few years and realizing the urge hasn't diminished in the slightest, it's become clearer than ever I must do it.

My goal is to earn the opportunity of an 18x contract, and right now my target is to train hard, smart, and focused so I may earn the chance to tryout for an elite force that our country is fortunate to have. I am able to meet the physical requirements for the contract now, but I refuse to sign up by just meeting the minimums and want to get to a 300 APFT score before taking up an 18x slot (this doesn't make my recruiter too happy). I've been using "Get Selected" as well as Military Athlete as my primary training guides. Additionally, I am working on resolving a couple issues so that I won't require any waivers, and am doing my best to take care of that. It would be devastating if either of those issues prevented me from trying out, but I understand that rules are rules and that I am no exception to them.

Most importantly, I want to thank all of the QPs on this site for your service, and for allowing me in here as a guest. It has been an absolute treasure trove of information and wisdom. I've been lurking for a few months now, reading up on old threads, and have had all of my questions answered and then some. This site has helped me tremendously in my quest for an 18x contract.

I've blabbed enough. Back to PT.

Hello everyone,

I am a prior service male in my mid-20's currently in the process of signing an 18x contract. I spent 3 years with the Army as an 11B where I served with Tiger Force Recon with the 101st (06-09). I deployed OIF 6 to Northern Iraq and had the pleasure of working with a variety of special operations forces to include two Special Forces groups. After completion of my first contract, I left to complete my bachelor's degree in Security Management from AMU (10-12). The military, as well as special operations as a whole, has been something I've had a serious life interest in since I was young like many others. I look forward to continued observation and research of these forums. Thank you for the opportunity to utilize such a wealth of information and for your service. Back to my ruck.

Best Regards,

Hello,

My name is Stephen. I found this site because I was doing research on the Special Forces community. My father was in 5th Group in Viet Nam. I wanted to get to know more about his experiences along those of the people he served with, and those that came before and after him. I understand that the best way to do so is to ask him, but his one rule about his time in Viet Nam is everyone only gets one question and answer session. I, unfortunately, wasted that when I was much younger and didn't know the right questions to ask.

I have nothing but respect for my father and anyone who has ever worn the beret. I have very recently thought about going into Regular Army. I am in the Reserves right now; currently in a Drill Sergeant unit (not a Drill Sergeant, but on the way). Most of you have probably guessed that having a father old enough to be in Nam means that I'm old enough to be outside of the 18x guidelines. The recruiter has told me that it is waiverable if I push hard enough. That, however, is not what has given me pause in making the decision.

When I was younger, and physically fit enough to even try, I was not mature enough. I know that now. I even knew that then. Now, when I am much more mature, I have to get myself much more physically fit. I have a good base, I just need to build upon that. I will not shame myself, my father, or any of the highly respected people on this board or in the field by trying something I know I am not ready for. I have found this website invaluable in my quest to find better training plans and tips. In fact, one of the reasons I registered was to be able to use the much talked about search button.

Now that I have posted my introduction, I look forward to reading the insane amount of posts and insight on this board

I am currently finishing my degree at George Mason University (last semester). My degree will be in Middle Eastern Studies with a minor in Arabic.

I am 26 years old and have traveled quite a bit through developing countries.

I became interested in this site after stumbling across it during a shift at work as a researcher.

I am definitely interested in enlisting with an 18x contract but will need a minor medical waiver (which I know the Army is not giving and I will not be asking questions as if you are MEPS doctors). So until that policy is changed, I am here to lurk and to learn and if it is not changed, then I will move on and work for the State Dept or a non-profit where I can hopefully still have some sort of an impact.

Thank you for all of the valuable information you have take the time to put on this site.

I am a former SF Medic 91B(S) earning my flash in 1970. My first duty assignment was the 10th SFG where I re-enlisted (hated cold weather training) for an assignment with the 5th SFG (B-36/A 362) later re-designated USARVITG when the 5th SFG retired its colors and returned to Ft. Bragg. After extended service in RVN I returned to the 5th SFG at Ft. Bragg in 1973. In 1974 I was assigned to the USAIMA/JFKCSW where I was an instructor to other SF Medics in-training at the "goat lab". The Army was going through a general RIF at that time and rumors were flying the SF was to be disbanded. Facing the risk of being in a regular Army unit (a fate worse than death), I chose to become a civilian after nearly 7 years of service. I went back to school and earned a doctoral degree in Organic Chemistry/Biochemistry. Today, I am a bio-entrepreneur and medical research scientist at the "tip of the spear" in a radically changing industry. Feels like home! I am thankful for my SF training every day in this changing environment. I have recently reconnected with some of the old guard (Col. Steve Yevich, MD USSOCOM and an SF Medic class mate). Yeah, I know we are "old" :o Too many I knew have passed (SGM Frank Hillman, SGM Darcy, SGM Szabados, SGT Buddy Richmond - another SF medic class mate) {Salute} I hope to hear from more of you through this site.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I appreciate you allowing me to be a member of the forum. I spent 4 years in the Marines and served in OIF/OEF, supporting various units as a Combat Engineer from '06-'10. I recognize many of you from other forums that I'm on, and I'm sure that since you're here and posting, it's a good forum to be on. Since I've been out, I've been doing the whole overseas contracting thing and while I know it won't last, I enjoy the work but I love the community. Obviously I won't really anything to contribute in the SF categories around here, however I'm more then willing to partake in some friendly conversation.

Hello Everyone,

Before I proceed to introduce myself I want to take a moment to recognize and thank the administrators and operators who take time to manage and contribute to this site. I have been searching through various boards for a few hours and the information I have found thus far is invaluable. So thank you.

That being said, my name is Corey. I am 24 years old and a prior service member. I spent 4.5 years in the Navy as a Corpsman before I made the decision to continue my education. While on active duty I made it a goal to make it into one of the various “special units” that were available. I initially entered the Navy with a BUD/s contract which is similar to the 18X contract. But I dropped it before shipping to basic because I was not guaranteed any medical education if I went that route. In retrospect I am glad I didn’t because I was not mentally ready for it. However, once in Corps School (MOS training) I was introduced to the Marine Reconnaissance pipeline. So I screened (500m swim, Max pull-up, 2 min push-up, 2 min sit-up and a 1.5 mile run in boots and utes) and passed. As long as I passed Corps School I would get cut orders to the pipeline. Long story short Corps School→ Field Medical Training Battalion→ Marine Corps Basic Reconnaissance Course→ Army Airborne→ SOCM and this is where I got myself into some trouble. Even longer story short, I was dropped for disciplinary reasons but the Reconnaissance community decided I was worth retaining and I was able to serve with 2D Recon Bn until I got out.

Looking back now there are some choices I would have made differently since I stepped on my own feet. But I am grateful for the guys I worked with and those senior to myself that decided I was worth keeping around.

Now that I am out I miss the camaraderie I had in Bn. SF has been a thought of mine for a few years (previously considered the Blue to Green Program) but though the grass is greener on the other side (civilian life). Well it isn’t. So I am going to finish my degree, workout and then get back in. I will do whatever it takes to achieve my goals, which I know are very achievable now that I have some clearly defined goals as well as a plan to achieve them.

I am sure that is way more than enough of an intro, possibly a little too much. If you managed to read this far I thank you for sticking with me.

-Corey

Hello,

I am 21 years old, and currently a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill studying Peace, War and Defense. I am in the process of enlisting with an 18x contract. I am hoping to ship out in the summer/fall of 2013 after I graduate. Right now I am learning as much as a possible about SFAS and the Q course, as well as training and rucking as hard as I can. This site has been a wonderful source of information, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your service to this great country.

If you think that graduate school may be in your future, please consider the advantages of writing a senior honor's thesis and also developing relationships with professors in the program. Ideally, both the thesis and the relationships will center around your intended field of study.

Good advice - but remember this is the Intro forum and the PM function is active. Richard

Hey there,

I'm Jay, I'm 27 and a former Infantryman. I spent a little under 5 years in the service, but ended up having to get because of health reasons thanks to Iraq. I'm currently waiting on the VA disability to kick in (good thing I haven't held my breath) and going to school while also spending a lot of my time writing.

I found this site while studying Stolen Valor claims, and think it's great how well represented the QP's are in regards to outing the frauds. If anyone deserves to have their legacy preserved, it is the men of the Special Forces. Thank you, guys.

Greetings. First, I'd like to thank all the QPs here for their service to our country, and for the sacrifices they and their families make. My family and I are grateful. Thank you, also, for allowing me to be a guest in your home. I am not in the military, although I have considered it. If I could turn back time, I would go back and correct that mistake.

I am an anesthesiologist who's hobby has turned into a paying job teaching basic firearms classes to beginners. I found this website while researching stolen valor, and have stayed to take advantage of the wealth of information available here. I also have a friend who is a major in the 20th SF Group here in Maryland, although he is not a member here.

Again, thank you for your service and allowing me in your house. This will probably be my only post, as you already have many medical personnel here with more tactical medicine experience than I, and I do not tend to run my mouth, especially on subjects that I know little about.

We refer to you as "brothers in arms". (Cousins is too distant.)

Welcome aboard Brother.

Hello,

I am twenty two years old. I am currently working on enlisting into the army. I was born and raised in Michigan but currently live in Ohio. All my life I have dreamed of serving in the military. The first thing I told my mother I wanted to be was a Navy Seal, and my dreams haven't changed too much from there.

As of today I am less than a month from joining and I couldn't be happier. I've always been a big supporter of the armed forces and always will be. I thank the ones who have served before me for maintaining freedom and I am proud to say that I will soon join in the cause.

I've been browsing this forum for a while getting lots of useful advice. There is so much knowledge and experience here that I hope to soak up before I leave. Thank you for everything.

Howdy, I am an active duty 11B with the 3d CR stationed at Ft. Hood. I joined this forum to get some information about SF and the community and see how it would impact my life by family. I know that there is a SF Recruiting Station on Hood but I would like to get some wisdom here before I talk to the recruiter about dropping my packet.

My name is Charlie. I have been a long time lurker (almost 6 years!) and reader. One of my best friends is a medic with 5th group who I greatly admire - he introduced me to this forum. In the spring, after much discussion with my wife, I intend to sign my Rep-63 contract with the Texas National Guard and try out for SF.

Thank you to all of the Quiet Professionals who contribute to this forum. Your experience and knowledge are invaluable to those of us who one day wish to join your ranks.

Greetings and Salutations Professional Soldiers,

My name is Brian and I am a 41 year old National Guard helicopter mechanic. I found this sight last year and followed it closely since. I know a lot of younger guys may think it ridiculous, but I would like to be a member of this group of outstanding individuals. I am scheduled to deploy soon and I will spend every spare moment that I have studying and training to earn the opportunity to "Tab or Cast" when I return.
Thank all Military here for your service and your commitment to this Country and the Rights we continue to fight for in our Constitution. God bless you all...

Greetings one and all! I have 13 years of military service. Most active duty, a little reserves and some AGR NG. I was guided to this great site by a friend. I must say it is absolutely mind numbingly wonderful to find like minded people to learn from and share with on a stable and well maintained site. I look forward to any knowledge and friendships that I may gain through you all.

Hello guys! 26 yo prior service here. Im on the older side of the spectrum, but I have the fitness of a 20 yo. I am currently working on the 18x program option paperwork and love the site. I have no real mentorship up here in Missoula, MT, so you guys are a godsend. I am currently in college working on three simultaneous degrees and got a bit of the gypsy spirit kicking in. I had a selection date previously and have taken the DLAB (115), but I deemed myself not mature enough at the time. Old dreams don't die... you just give up on them or grow out of them... I did neither with this one.

My name is Ryan. I am 23 years old living in Utah. I am married with three children, two girls and a boy. I am spanish/english bilingual.

I do not currently know really what my PT is, but my pushups are.....58 nonstop. I bet I could do at least 10 pullups right now and have no idea what my run or situps would be.

I want to get into the Army and into SF, and I am grateful for this site and the information here. I promise not to ask questions or make comments without good reason and much research first.

I will respect all of the QP's on here and all other veterans and their advice/opinions on any subject matter.

Once I get my wife's immigration papers and what not taken care of and my behind in great shape (again, I used to compete in olympic lifting) I will be signing up with an 18x contract. I tried and failed last year due to legal matters on behalf of my spouse, so I know what the recruiting process is like now.

Thank you for this site and your service.

Hello,
My name is Robert. I am currently in college, have just finished my AS degree, but am considering serving in the military. I always try for the top, not just to pass, but to succeed, so I have been looking into the best that the military has, the Special Forces. I have nothing but the highest respect and admiration for these men who have succeeded in becoming the very best they can be, and serving our country as they have dedicated their service to. I appreciate the opportunity learn and glean some advice from these great men, in an effort to potentially follow in their footsteps, as they lead the way for all of us. Thanks so much for all that you do,

Hi everyone. I'm 27, I live in Florida.
I enlisted in the FL National Guard in 2002 as a 12B Combat Engineer, though a year or so later they consolidated the Engineer branch to 21 series.
Deployed all over Florida for all of the hurricanes that hit back in 2004. My unit was called to active duty in March 2005 for an Afghanistan rotation, returned in mid 2006 and returned to school.
Graduated from Florida State University, go Noles. Commissioned as an 11A in the Georgia National Guard.
I looked into the 20th Group in 2006 after I came back, but decided to finish school first. Looking at the 20th again now that I'm getting close to being a Captain, and I'm sure I'll have some questions.

Hello everyone. Even though I don’t plan on posting, it feels odd to lurk without some sort of intro.

First off, I am a female. That would (correctly) imply that I am not SF, nor will I ever be. I joined for two reasons: one, because I am dating someone who aspires to go into this line of work and is currently in the pipeline, and two, to use the search bar to more readily find answers to the questions I may have.

Since I won’t be asking any national security questions, let’s keep it semi-vague, shall we? I live in an unreasonably expensive suburb near an unreasonably expensive city in an unreasonably expensive state. I have a college degree in chemical engineering, which was not a wise move seeing as how I despise desk work. Working in oil and gas at the moment, we will see where that takes me. My job will eventually put me all over the world if I can suck it up and earn my stripes jockeying this desk.

I am here to learn (as the username implies). You all are a vast supply of knowledge and experience that I hope to tap. I have already started by reading a few books, but a lot of the things I have learned here by lurking I don’t think I could have learned through published text. These things are quite unsettling to me, honestly. My brain tends to run with ideas, going to the worst case scenario immediately and preparing for it. Maybe ignorance is bliss, but I have a thirst to learn and I won’t settle for not knowing. Stupidity (or ignorance in my case) is not an excuse, and I will not be apathetic when I can change it.

Thank you for putting this forum together and for the expertise you provide. I really appreciate it.

Since I’m long winded, a synopsis: I am a female (therefore not SF, now or future), I don’t plan on posting after this one, and I am here to learn. Back to lurking I go, now with the ability to use the search bar…

Hi,

My name is Mark and I found this site through Google. I am attempting to obtain an 18x contract. If it turns out I cannot obtain an 18x contract I will enlist as an 11X and work from there. I am 26 and have a degree in Mechanical engineering. I am also in the process of obtaining a master's degree (2013 graduation date). This site is very impressive. I have found an answer to every question I had regarding Special Forces. I wish research were always made this easy.

I want to serve my country because my country has given me so much. I have been given safety, comfort, an education and so much more. I also want more out of this life than just a paycheck. I believe the Army can give this to me; whether it is in Special Forces or a conventional unit.

I'm an IT guy from Latvia. Apart from sitting at computer I enjoy riding bike, camping and expanding my knowledge. Ever since I was about 10, I took an interest in military things. At first it was nothing more than kids playing war, but it evolved - I joined National Guard of Latvia.
I'm here to read, in fact I hesitated even to write this post, but finally did.

Realized that somewhere along the line I had lost my old log in and began using my original and "un-introduced" account. I had abandoned this one in the beginning when I realized that there was a QP on the forum with a nearly identical name. That being said I spend most of my time on this site respectfully silent and unless in the rare circumstance I can add to the subject matter, I intend to remain that way.

In an effort to bring myself into compliance...

31 year old NC native. I found this site years ago when I enlisted as an 18x. Attended OSUT at Benning (A Co. 3/330). Ruptured both tempanic membranes before attending SOPC much less SFAS. After medical discharge I got involved in politics. Served at the leisure of the President as a member of the Bush administration and later as a congressional liaison, mainly to the VA, DOD and Military. I'm currently in my second year of law school. I remain in touch with my friends that went on to become QP's and have the highest respect for all of the men in this community.

My name is Mike, and I am currently a full time student at Ohio University. The military has always been something that I knew I wanted to join, but I decided to attend college first. I am currently finishing up my senior year and graduating in the spring. I figured it's finally time to do what I want to do, so I am talking to OCS recruiters to get the ball rolling on my OCS package. I plan on becoming an officer and serving the Army for a while. As soon as I am eligible, I am going to attend SFAS to become a 18A. My goal is to learn as much from you professionals as I can so I can become better prepared for SFAS and I can become a better officer. The main things I am looking for is advice on getting into the best physical shape possible. I have been checking this site out for a while and I have already learned a great deal of things. Thank you for this opportunity, your service, and your help.

Having been in the shadows for a few years, I figure it is about time to re-introduce myself. Name is Joe and at 42, I've served in Real Army and then NG. Combat Engineer/ Sapper Team Leader during Desert Shield/ Desert Storm, I eventually took a position as an Infantry Squad Leader in the NG.

Pursuing my ambitions, I re-enlisted in 20th Group back in 1998. After trials and tribulations, injuries, and hard work, I was able to lock up six good years in Maryland. Afghanistan was good in that we had the opportunity to work as part of 3rd SFG(A). As much as I enjoyed the men I served with, the State Admins made my choice easier and I returned to full-time Civilian life and a real career.

Choosing my family and a steady pay check is not a regret, though I do miss the men and the brotherhood.

Hello all, I'm a wife of an 18x candidate who just got selected. I've been on here since he showed me this site right before he left for Basic back in June, and I have really enjoyed reading and learning from all who post. My father and several other family members are currently in the Navy and both my grandfathers are retired Navy, and I absolutely loved the adventures of moving around the country and world as a Navy brat. However, I still have a lot to learn about the Army life and I'm excited to jump in and join my husband at Bragg for the Q. I have a degree in Psychology and am also a certified dog trainer.

Thank you to all the Quiet Professionals, not only for your willingness to give advice on here but also for your service to our country. I couldn't be more proud of my husband as he enters the Q, and this page has given me nothing but peace of mind that he is learning from the best.

Hello everyone. I joined this site last year and just realized that I never introduced myself. I haven't been on here much because I have been busy with training for my job for quite some time now. All my details are on a public profile. Just a quick rundown on me; I am a criminal investigator (Special Agent is the official title but that just means I work investigations) with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and I think I have the best job around. I have been on active deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and other places. All of AD time came from being deployed with Georgia NG. I am both 11B and 19D. I got to know some SF professionals overseas and was impressed by the fact that all of the members were humble and didn't hesitate to educate us on the go. They taught us plenty and it was evident why they earned the title QP. I joined this site because I am impressed by the amount of experience and knowledge on so many subjects here. I likely won't post much but I know that I'll learn a lot.

My name is Anthony, and I'm finally introducing myself after about a year of reading posts on this site. Although I've never served, I am the son of an x-SF soldier, and am interested in the SF way of life. Thank you all for your dedication and service.
AS.

I am a 22 year old 18x recruit currently in the middle of my AIT at Ft. Benning (holiday block leave until Jan 4). I will be going to airborne school sometime in February and then I will be going to Ft. Bragg. I have heard that this website was helpful in many ways so I am looking forward to finding out.

Howdy All,

My name is Scott, I am a recent (MAY12) Q-CRS grad. I PCS'd to Panzer last summer and have been enjoying my time getting 'mentored'. I will join my team in JAN when I return from a super-fun BTL CPT job (that has at least given me some perspective). I've been reading the site alot without joining over the last couple years and always appreciate the extra perspective that I'm able to glean from the QP's-- thanks TS for creating a forum where FNGs like me can learn and keep from frequent crank stepping. In addition to that, I find the extension of team room humor comforting-- as an o if I go more than 10 minutes without getting made fun of, there's something wrong...

Other than army stuff, I'm really into cycling and triathlon-- I've completed somewhere around 30 IM 70.3s and IMs. So far the Q-QRS killed that hobby and I'm doing my best to get back into long distance shape.

My name is Jason. I used to weigh 440, and currently weigh 220. I am honestly half the man I used to be. I lost the weight in order to join the military. I was planning being an infantryman in either the Marines or the Army. Then after talking to an Army recruiter, finding this site, and reading a book by Major Joe Martin I think I may give the 18X my best shot once I lose some more weight if the program is avalible. If there is to long of a wait I may just sign up 11B,Volunteer for Airborn training , and Volunteer for Special Forces ASAP. Then again if there is a long wait that is more time to get into shape. If I give it my best shot and fail I get to be an Infantryman (win-win) plus I can test again latter from what I understand.

One problem I have is that while loseing the weight I have gotten very very old.:boohoo I am now 26 and will be 27 in July, and therefor from what I have gleaned I only have three years.

I did have lots and lots of questions to ask you guys but after reading the forums for the last few days and finishing Major Martin's book, I don't have anymore questions that I can think of at the moment. I am going to get some more of the books recomended on these forums by the QPs and do some more browsing.

Hello all,
My name is J (Team Sergeant Edit, no full names) I am currently a sophomore at Pennsylvania State University. I do have a scholarship through Army ROTC, and I am currently striving to achieve that Commission! I came across this site simply by google searching many questions I had pondered about the life after CadetLand. And my googling led me to this GoldMine! I am looking forward to studying as much as I can from this site, I am extremely grateful for this site with the abundance of knowledge one can gain, not only to become a better soldier but also to develop and become a better man all around. Thank you all for your service, and I look forward to my stay here. May it be long and prosperous.

Very Respectfully,
J
