My name is Henry Taylor, I'm 18 years old, currently in the National Guard. I'm at Fort Gordon doing AIT to become a 94F. My goal is to go active Duty and pursue becoming a Green Beret. I Joined this website after hearing it from a Specialist in the NG that was going active duty to do SFAS and how it helped him answer some questions he had pertaining to workouts and what to expect at SFAS. I hope to learn as well and find the answers to some of the questions i have. Thanks for everything and the sacrifices you guys have made for this country.

Hey everyone,
I am a prior service veteran (94-06) in the intel community. I was chatting a friend and his father in law (Vietnam era SF) and I have met only a few guys SF in my career and have the utmost respect for everyone that has earned the SF tab! I have some questions for the community so I joined up here. I appreciate you guys accepting me on this site and hope you will feel free to answer any questions I have and will be more than happy to answer any you have about the MI community! Thanks again and I have great respect for you guys and all that you have done! Thanks again

Hello, My name is Rhett McClure. First off I just want to say thank you for everyone here that has picked up the sword to defend this Country, I am forever grateful.

About myself: I am 27 and an Air Force Veteran. I joined the Air Force to try out for Pararescue, but because of my ignorance of taking my glasses to MEPS with me before I shipped out, I was DQ'd. After being in DEP for 2.5 years, I was told I could continue to ship out to basic and get an AFSC assigned to me or I could just not join. After waiting for so long I decided to just ship out. I just wanted to serve. Received my job in basic and served 3 years as a 3E0X2 to the best of my ability, after that I was eligible to crosstrain. Sent my package up the chain for PJ and was denied because the 1SG thought I should finish my first enlistment before crosstraining(6yrs).

At that point I looked into other options because I knew that I had a greater potential, and that's when I learned about SF. I became obssesed. After a few months I sent up my package to go Blue to Green for SF. Once again denied by the 1SG because he has never heard of someone switching branches in the middle of their enlistment. At the time they were looking for volunteers to get out of the Air Force anyways due to down sizing and sequestration so I asked to get out. 6 months later I was back home.

2nd day I was home, started talking to a recruiter about SF. Didn't end up joining because by this time I had a gf of almost 3 years that didn't want me to leave her, and I loved her so I put the dream on hold. Hindsight being 20/20, that probably wasn't the best decision, but hard lesson learned.

I've been out of the Air Force for 3 years now and I recently became single, go figure. I believe everything happens for a reason. Looking back I feel that the reason I haven't gone to SFAS yet is not because of anyone else, for we control our own destiny. It's because I wasn't ready mentally. I needed more life experience. Since getting out of the Air Force, life has thrown alot of tests at me. Today, I have a way better understanding of who I am and the person that I strive to be. It's almost like I was never meant to join until now. Once I get to SFAS there's only three options I see happening: One, I make it. Two, I get injured and hopefully get asked to come back. Three, I was never what SF needed in the first place.

In the end, my number one reason and motivation to go for the dream of becoming an SF soldier is not about me. I'm not better than anyone else, yet I was given freedom that I did not deserve. There are millions of people out there that never got the choice of freedom. So, for this gift I dont deserve to get, I will make sure I earn it. I greatly appreciate this site and the moderators. Again, thank you to anyone here who went before me, I wouldn't even be able to make this post without your sacrifices.

Good afternoon gents,

Name is Matt, I am currently training to prepare myself for the rigors of SFAS. I am mostly here to read, but I am sure I'll have a questions or two eventually. So far, as explained, the search function has kept me quiet and I appreciate all of the information that is on this forum. I hope to one day serve with you guys, until then I'm going to go make me hate myself with training.

Hey everyone. I've surfed these forums for further enlightenment many times the past few years, yet this is my first post. I'm a newbie 18e at Bragg. I had been an 11b for a few years before this, but I wanted to learn, do and be more. This site is a goldmine. Thank you to all the admins and contributors for being Grade-A enablers!

Hello,
I am 26 and am currently planning on signing up within the next few months(by the end of may) as 18x. I have yet to sign any documents, and I realize talk is cheap. I have been lurking the site for over a year now and I only recently signed up because I'd like to show my support for the site. I would also like to get in touch with anyone who might be willing to mentor me for a couple of months. Thank you all for providing this website, it has helped me to learn so much.

Personal stuff for those interested:
I work 12 hour shifts overnight and I workout between rest periods of 3 to 4 hours.
On my off days i put in 4 to 5 hours at the gym.
I quit drinking a few months ago in order to utilize more of my time wisely.
I was pursuing a career in nuclear power prior to making the decision to prep for SF.

Hello, I am 24 years old and currently an E-4 in the National Guard as a 13M. I am getting the necessary paperwork together to attend the next possible SFRE. I have been actively looking through these forums for the last couple of months to gain any insight possible. Thanks for all the great information. The only roadblock I have hit is that A/20/20th SFG has moved locations. However, it is not much farther of a distance for me, and if selected and I make through the course, I plan on moving.

At work finally posting where im supposed to. .
Names Angel 32 yrs old.. always had the idea of joining The U.S Military. . I can always recall a memory from child hood where im playing a soldier. I actually have a self cartoon portrait at age 5 where i was drawn as "Commando" (Arnold S.). So when i came to age 18 ive just finished winning all American honors in wrestling by winning a state tittle. I was so focus on wrestling, that i really never thought of whats next? So i started BJJ, Boxing, Muy thai. Went to a community collage took 14 units a year dropped out at 72 units. This whole time(since 18yrs old) ive worked in a wearhouse doing wearhouse work. I must of gone to the recruiter at least 3 times by the age of 25. At 26 i went took the math reading ect. And scored an 88. Finally thinking im joining. I was going army, and felt that when i go in im going "HAM". About 2 weeks later i have an mma bout. Going to fight another guy from another gym. The weekend before my fight.. i go out on my motorcycle to join my brother at a comedy show down the street. I never made it home untill a month later. I was hit by a drunk driver spent a month getting surgeries and healing up at the hospital. It took its toll, but it never beat me. I grew out of it a better person in my opinion. So now im here been training for about 8 months trying to get back in shape. Wishing im not still dreaming of joining when im 35. So The time is now.. my plan is to start studying for the asvab test and get in physical shape. To past sfas.. im just hoping i get a shot.. so as for now im just a Fan Boy .. getting a few things together before i go to the recruiter. So thats me

Hey all,

I don't have too much to say. The name's Kyle, and I've always wanted to serve my country. However, I believe that war isn't just about taking heads, and I believe that the Green Berets understand this better than anyone. I strive to become a Medical Sergeant, because I know that saving lives is just as important as taking them. I've got a hell of a lot to learn, and a hell of a lot of training to get done. Next year when I'm 20, I'll fight tooth and nail for the green beret. If I fall short, I'll get back up and fight again! I'm using this forum to learn as much as I can about the Quiet Professionals' way of life.

See you on the forums,

How's it goin', y'all. I'm a former Avionics Mechanic, now contracted with ROTC. My intent is to learn all I can about the profession in order to help me make a branch decision. As of right now, I'm looking at Infantry, because I believe the knowledge and skills one develops as an 11A would be beneficial both during selection/Q course and as an 18A. I look forward to perusing the forums and getting engaged with you all. Have a good one!

My name is Jared, 26 y.o. Current member of the MI National Guard. Had aspirations for a long time to do work for an SF type organization. Don't come from a mil background so this was a new adventure for both me and my family. Since I joined the Army in '13, I latched on to what they had to offer. I spent lots of free time during basic/AIT learning about the Army and their special forces groups. I have since figured out how this whole Army thing works (or at least think I have) and I am currently attempting to find an SFRE course through 20th group in IL to give my shot at joining the SF community. Nothing would give me more quiet pride and a feeling of service than to join something like this. I finally feel like I had a goal to reach for and I am looking forward to what the future has in store for me.

Been a member on here for a little while absorbing the info I can get and would like to get my intro in.

Additionally, if anyone is in the MI area who could assist me on my journey, I would greatly appreciate all the help I can get.

My name is Larry. Served in the Army back in the 70's. Was in Co A, 1st Bn, 7th SFG(A). Was an 11B back in those days. Got out in late 1974, so that makes me kind of an old guy now. Very proud of my service and to all those who have/are serving. Joined this board to keep up with the goings on in the SF community. DOL.

After 24 yrs I retired from the Army Reserves and E8. I spent the last couple years as an instructor and prior to that 1SG of a CSH. Larger operational unit was more fun for me due to the types of missions, funding available to support humanitarian aid missions and the leadership challenges that a large Company brings.
I have had the luck to be at the right place at the right time to be trained in 4 MOS.
- 11B
- 91B (combat medic as a pre-req to 91V)
- 91V Respiratory Therapy
- 91A Biomed (medical equipment repair)
I work as a Biomed now specializing in repair of imaging equipment.
I've been a SCUBA Instructor, Licensed Boat Captain (50 Ton Master, Near Costal), and Instrument Rated Pilot for single engine and VFR pilot for multi-engine planes.
Combat tour in Kuwait and Iraq, ending in dodging mortars and RPGs at Anaconda, 2003-2004. Of the 22 months on orders, 13 were in theater. While there I was at CSHs so no direct contact with anything worse than malaria meds and the DFAC food.

I look forward to being a member of this group.

Good Evening QP's,

It's an honor to have the ability to communicate with some of the greatest men this country has to offer. I am humbly and respectfully thankful for your service to the people of this country and foreign nations. My name is Cody, and I am currently a political science major at UF. I hope I can extract the worldly knowledge that you all have to further my understanding of politics. After I graduate from school, I aspire to attend SFAS. I am very excited to absorb the wisdom graciously presented in this forum. Thank you for your time.

Glad to be here!!!

I want to say thank you to all the members on this site and for all of the amazing information that each and everyone of you put out. I am 30 years old and currently work for the City of Atlanta Fire Dept and 20th SFG. I recently went to SFAS (10-16) and was selected. As of right now I just in-processed into the school house. Prior to this I was in the Ga. National Guard at an airborne infantry unit (3/108 LRS). I am happy to be where I am and looking to get all of this started. I know its going to be a long road but I am again excited about the journey and to eventually complete the "Q".

Hello,

My name is Michael. I am a 30 year golf professional from Baltimore, Maryland and currently living in Reading, Pennsylvania. First, I would like to thank you all for your service and for your dedication to this site. In 2009 I was in the Maryland State Police Academy to become a State Trooper, and with the help of the pushup improvement plan and other fitness threads on the armyranger.com forums and this forum I finished 4th in my class (out of 75) and spent two years as a Trooper before leaving for the golf business after hurting my knee.

I hurt my knee on the job in 2010, and I had no idea but I actually tore my ACL. I recently found out it was torn when it popped a couple years ago and had to have a complete reconstruction in September of 2015. I had some complications, but I was cleared to run, ruck, and swim (along with my full workouts) a couple of months ago.

I joined the forums to continue my fitness improvement, and my family and I are potentially considering a career move to the military. My age puts me in an interesting position, but once we make a decision on the route we would like to go I will fight for it. A career in special operations is something I have always been interested in, and I enjoyed my time in Army ROTC in college. So, that has us considering a military career or going back into law enforcement. I believe there were several members of the Maryland State Police that serve with the 20th SFG in Glen Arm.

Again, thank you all for your service to our country. I may not have served yet in the military, but I do know what it's like to go to work with a gun on your hip not knowing if you will come home. It is a thankless job, but I know everyone that serves enjoys giving their time for our community/country.

PS - I am working on my running, and I plan to self administer an APFT to see where I stand and how much work I have to do. When I do I will post those APFT scores.

Sincerely,
Michael W

I want to preface my intro with a message of appreciation. Thank you to all who have walked this path before me and are shedding wisdom to make my path that much more enlightened. I am prior service Army National Guardsman (Virginia). I have completed my commitment with the guard, honorably. I went the DoD contractor route and got some pretty awesome exposure. The contractor life isn't conducive to forming family stability, which is very much on my mind. Recently, I signed an 18x contract, its my dream to be a part of the SF Brotherhood. I ship June 7th to Benning, very excited. Thank you again for the opportunity for being able to be a part of this community!

I want to say thank you to the QPs who took the time to write out the hundreds of posts that I have scoured through over the past few months. I decided to stop lurking and seek out some mentors.

About me: 24 year old non combat arms officer at Fort Carson about six months out from the Selection board. I previously competed in Olympic style weightlifting so I'm coming from a strength based program. I am currently working with a friend of mine who was a recon marine and he is focusing on improving my aerobic capacity and muscular endurance. I have read Get Selected and Horse Soldiers so far, looking to read more QP related books. My goal is to seek out Enlisted and Commissioned mentors who will help me develop into the type of person they would want to be their Team Leader.

Thanks again for what you do, I'll go back to lurking for the most part and soaking up everything I can.

Hello to all:

First off, I want to thank those of you who have served, and are currently serving our Nation. I want to thank those who have created, contributed to, and actively manage this website. It clearly holds a wealth of invaluable information relative to nearly all things US Special Forces.

I discovered this site while researching the prospect of receiving an age waiver for 18x or Rep 63 contract. Although I feel the value I can add will correspond most ideally, it appears my Non-Prior Service status blocks the way. The word “impossible" does not register well with me... There is always a way. Therefore I certainly appreciate ANY assistance, advice and/or creative ideas provided as I continue my efforts.

Lastly: Major congratulations to those who have been Selected! And Good Fortune to all those who are in the process. I certainly hope to encounter the "opportunity" to be assessed for joining you.

Godspeed.

Hello everyone, I would just like to thank you for allowing me to be apart of this forum. I've almost graduated with a degree in intelligence, an eagle scout, and have a few hobbies that relate to special forces in some way. I have been interested in Special Forces since I was a young boy, but obligations have gotten in my way for sometime. I do say however, I thank these obstacles because they have given me a lot of real world experience and made me more mature than I was at 18. I'm on this forum to do research into the special forces life, get insight on the life of an operator, and to find tips and advice from those who have been there to give me an idea where I fit in the community.

Hail, and well met.

I'm a 27 year E5 National Guardsmen from Minnesota. I'm not currently with a line unit, and I'm looking for a better career path, one that would give me more of a real experience serving my country, or at least the effect of such on my community and country.

I will not leave the Army without, at least, a Ranger tab. Special Forces is my aim, however, as I feel it would be a more useful application of my intellect and affinity for language.

This website has been an amazing resource. I have been able to find answers to just about every question I could come up with. If you can't find the info here, the answer may only be available through non-virtual experience.

I look forward to it, and I am very grateful to be given a shot...

Hey guys,

Thanks for having me on here, I won't post much, just trying to absorb as much info as I can. This forum is so valuable to prospective SF candidates, thank you QPs for establishing and maintaining it! I'm 23, current Navy E5 contracted for 18X. I start the training pipeline in August, a couple days after I graduate with my MS in Psychology. I have my BA in Intelligence and National Security Studies. I'm looking forward to learning from all of you, and hopefully working with some of you in the future. Also, if anyone lives in the Conway/Myrtle Beach, SC area, I'd love to get together and get some workouts in. Cheers

Hi there - not SF, but got to brush up against some of you guys in the 90s while spending my 11B career in light infantry and airborne units through the 90s. Every time I got exposed to SF I would learn more in that short period of time than I would in a year of doing regular training. I have a few platoon and company mates that went SF and retired with them. Just plan on reading here and probably not posting too much as I've been out of the game a while. Thanks for having me!

Hello, I'm a 21 year old sophomore in college studying biology and was on the pre-med track, but I'm dropping out for now and will finish my education at a later time. I enlisted with an 18X contract about 2 weeks ago and have a ship date to BCT at the end of July. I've wanted to join for a long time and couldn't do so right out of high school for personal reasons, but I've been debating whether to leave school for a while now, so I'm really happy with my decision. Been training a little over a year now and am just giving it everything I got to prepare before I ship out. This website has been a great resource for SFAS prep and general knowledge regarding SF so I'm just trying to soak up as much as possible before I leave.

My name is Anthony I'm 31 currently married, we have a daughter together.
I am stationed at Ft Rucker, AL my MOS is 88m. I am scheduled to attend SFAS in September. I aspire to become a green beret because I feel that while being in the regular army is rewarding I think I can make a bigger difference else where. I enjoy teaching and I think that currently I need a more challenging career, I figure the life of a quiet professional might be that challenge I need. I feel being over 30 and coming from a support MOS will make getting selected ever more challenging; but I am ready to tackle that challenge and put forth all my dedication and time into it. I look foreword to reading as much as I can from this site and taking in as much knowledge as possible in order to better prepare myself.

My name is Garrett, I have no prior service. I am a 30 year old husband and a father of three. I am a professional land surveyor. I have been interested in the MS National Guard for some time now. Recently, I have been researching the National Guard SF. I received information about the pipeline and I have read "Get Selected". I am still in the researching and preparation phase. Thank you for your service and the abundant information you have provided on this site.

Hello there,
I'm a college student in Ohio (originally from CT), and I plan on going Infantry in about two years (hopefully option 4 for airborne) to prepare for ranger school in the future. I Have been going grey and reading material that has been very helpful. Thank you for the advice and help, I respect everything you operators do and thank you for your service. I know I'm mentally prepared to attain my goals (also ordered Get Selected, glad to help the cause), it's just a matter of getting physically prepared now. I'll keep going grey to get the material I need, but if I have a question I won't hesitate to ask and correct what to do.

Thank you,

Cave Ginger, Molon Labe

rick here, retired UDT/SEAL ’71-95. Primarily east coast with most deployments in 10th SFG AOR. Deployed to Crete in ’73 and trained with DET A in Jan ‘77. Assigned to Unit 2 in Machrihanish ’89-91. Last four years were with the EUCOM/CENTCOM regional team in J3 at SOCOM 91-95.
Since 2005 have been a historian at SOCOM with three deployments to OEF covering SOF.

One side history project I’ve taken on for SOF enterprise is to compile a list of live pickups by Fulton Skyhook. Skyhook was used 1958-1982 and the two lists that exist have errors. Objective is an accurate list of men picked up as well as crews that flew the mission. Have roughly 150 names thus far including 52 pickups by Army Caribou at Ft Bragg ‘62-66 which was run by the HALO Committee. Still working on the names picked up in PACOM during Vietnam and from ’79-82 in EUCOM. Reason for doing this is anyone who was picked up by that system deserves to be remembered for it, as do the crews that flew it. The reason for doing it now is these events occurred 35-59 years ago and we’re running out of time. Thanks

Hello everyone. I have wanted to pursue a career in SF for quite some time and finally took the first step by signing a REP63 contract with the UT ARNG. I am looking forward to the road ahead and am grateful for all the great info on this site. Focusing on running, rucking and making sure everything is squared away. I am a regular U.S. Army (enlisted) Soldier in my thirties currently stationed in Maryland, U.S. I programmed an app for Garmin GPS watches and wanted to share it with this community, is the main reason I got an account. I hope to do more high speed stuff in my Army career, and I have previously read from this webpage so it seems like a good place for information.

Things have changed since my last introduction post so I thought I'd try to keep things current and post a new one.

My name is Quinton Burton and I recently made the leap from a National Guard 15T to an Active Duty 18X. Looking to hit OSUT later this month to begin the pipeline toward the Q and eventually earn the beret and tab.

I frequent the threads on this site and have been sticking with a pretty strict workout regimen outlined in "Get Selected."

There are a lot of great posts and advice forums on this site for any new-comers who have already signed or are thinking about signing as an 18X. Take advantage of them.

Thanks guys!

First, I would like to thank Maj. Martin and MSG. Dodson for writing Get Selected, and leading me to this awesome forum. Second, I'd like to thank all of the Quiet Professionals (and other military members on this forum) for their service.

I enlisted with the Army Reserve in 2016 as a 92W at 26 years old. I'm a single dad with full custody of my 4 year old son. I am unmarried, thank God, but I am fortunate enough to have a very supportive family helping me raise my son. I am currently pursuing a BA in Cybersecurity and ROTC at my local college.

Prior to enlisting, I had very little idea or interest in Special Operations or Special Forces. Sadly, no one in my immediate family is prior service. I was clueless and, to be honest, I joined the Army Reserve to reap the benefits of a military retirement and because I knew a few guys that did it which made me think "It can't be that bad if HE did it." I'm actually embarrassed to confess that my attitude was pretty terrible. Sure enough, I got what I deserved because there were a few times I was humbled in BCT. I wasn't an athlete in high school and years of soft living really bit me in the ass in BCT.

When I first got to AIT, I couldn't find a whole lot of motivation. I wasn't a PT failure or a problem for the Cadre but goddamn, I hated it. I was 26 with a bunch of 18-20 year olds who seemed to think I was a prick because I didn't join in their shenanigans. So without much social interaction there, I went to the book store and picked up a few books that I thought might be interesting and ended up reading about guys like Gary O'Neal and Col. Nick Rowe. It really sparked my motivation and humbled me at the same time to read about what some of the SF Community has gone through just to do their jobs. Not only that, it completely changed my perspective on what it means to be a soldier in the United States Army. I know that no matter how boring or mundane or stressful things seem to be wherever I'm at, there's a guy in an ODA or in the 75th that's putting his life on the line. And when he's not doing that, he's busting his ass training to do that.

Needless to say, I'm on this forum because old age is creeping up on me and before I die, I want to perform well and I want to contribute to that kind of team. I'm here to find a mentor.

Hello everyone.

My name is Tony and I am currently preparing to go to selection in april of 18. I have been in the army for 7 years on active duty status. I am currently a RTO. I'm just here to learn from liked minded people and from people who have actually been there and done that. You can read theory or see workouts from coaches all day but getting the information from people who have actually put in the blood sweat and tears is insurmountable.

Gentlemen,
I am currently an Infantry officer in the Marines and have chosen to forego career designation and pursue a career in SF, but not as an officer. God bless the Grunts and I am forever grateful for both the opportunity and experience to have led some of America's best. I am not leaving the Grunts because I feel I am "too good" or that the Infantry is not "high speed" or sexy enough. I despise such sentiment as it only reflects immaturity and selfishness. I am trading in my brass for flat black because I truly believe that is where I will have the greatest impact in today's chaotic world. I am currently reaching out to recruiters in both active and NGSF to try to find the best COA. I am completely open to all advice and guidance from all members of the Community. Thank you for your time.

**Feel free to skip through my background. I only included it because I wanted to be as open and honest as possible. Paragraph 5 is where the meat and potatoes starts.**

Born and raised in Tampa, FL. Scored in the top 2% of the nation when I was a child as far as intelligence goes. I've always wanted to join the military, I can't remember a time when I didn't want it. Parents were both drunks and lived paycheck to paycheck. I've never had a lot of friends and I never really cared. A couple girlfriends but I don't think females are worth the investment, especially at my age. I was given a personality test in my psychology class in high school. INFJ. Pretty much means I'm quiet, keep to myself, I don't sweat the small stuff, very idealistic, and I make stuff happen.

In high school I started researching everything I could about the US Armed Forces. I wanted the hardest job. I wanted to be where the bad guys were. I wanted to be the best at taking care of said bad guys. I settled on Special Forces. Everyone called me an idiot for not looking at college. "You can make so much more money." Money has never been a motivating factor for me, and neither has sitting behind a desk in A/C. Scored a 90/100 on the student ASVAB. Recruiter said I can do anything I want. Also called me an idiot for not considering anything other than what I want. Mixed signals much?

Life happened and my battle buddy (who waited 3 years for me to turn 18 so we could enlist together) started doing drugs and was arrested. RIP. Girlfriend got cancer and for some reason it just didn't feel right leaving her like that and I'd hate myself if I did and anything happened to her. (Pretty sure she cheated on me then broke up with me about a year later.) Whatever. I had been living on my own for a while now when my grandmother got out of rehab for falling due to a mini stroke. She laid on the floor for hours. She asked me to come stay with her. I obliged.

I'm 21 now. I almost started going to college while I was over here because there's nothing better to do and I genuinely missed learning. Got accepted and everything to a pretty nice school. But for some reason that acceptance letter just looked like proof I was a failure. I knew if I never joined up that it'd just hang over me. I'd never be able to look at someone who served in the eye without feeling ashamed. So I went to my local recruiter.

I have no medical issues, no legal issues, no dependents, I scored in the 97th percentile for the AFQT. Recruiter told me "the sky is the limit for me." He wants to ship me out in 2 weeks. 18X contract. I told him I don't think I'm ready PT-wise. I've only just begun the workout plan from the BUD/S Warning Order (Seemed comprehensive enough and easy to follow). He insists that OSUT will prepare me for SFAS. That goes against everything I've ever heard about SF. Not to mention I've talked to about 3 recruiters there and they will all give me different answers to the same question, right in front of each other. I've got too much respect to just call them out on it and ask why is everyone on a different page. No one in that recruiting station has been in SF. You guys have. I'm tired of wasting time. I will have 7 weeks at minimum after OSUT before I go to SFAS. I don't know how much free time I will have during those 7 weeks. I need to know if you QP's think it will be enough. VW isn't an option. I've pushed through longer and harder than anyone I know. 20 hours straight of moving and sorting heavy objects before they made me go home (I know that still doesn't compare to SFAS but honestly, what does?). My main concern is being med dropped due to my feet or something of that nature.

What do you guys think? Should I sign the dotted line and start stocking up on socks, uniforms, canteen straws, etc.? It says I've joined 3 days ago but I've been reading these forums for a over a month now and continue to do so daily. I'm going to MEPS in a few days for my physical but I'm not worried about that. I'm more worried about wasting time by failing SFAS vs properly preparing while I have more time in the day to devote to this.

Living in SC active with local SF guys and do alot of local training with prior service Vets and civilians. Tip of the beret to the regiment !

Married, 4 children (all grown, hell I got 2 grand kids), I play the guitar, my father served in the Navy during WWII. I have never served in the Military but I respect & honor all those that have & those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

I originally found this site researching a poser running for mayor in Ft Myers, FL. If I remember, I sent Team SGT a PM & the rest is history. I enjoy the political discussions & learning about firearms from folks with more knowledge than I. Love to assemble AR's & NFA stuff.

Hello to all members (QP or otherwise)

I am an Aerospace Engineering Student taking Medical School prerequisites and will be an ROTC cadet this fall. For a long time I have been scouring numerous forums on this site looking for any information I can get my hands on. Special Operations Medicine is my long term career goal. My father who became a QP in the 80's and has been in Special Operations Medicine until he recently retired. I greatly respect the members of this community and the work that the QP's do. All of this makes me feel called to serve the members of this community as best as I can.

I will strive to ask intelligent questions and be a respectful student.

Good day gentlemen,

I am 23, hail from the Midwest, and got my BA in Political Science. During my undergraduate years, I played football and rugby, but also got heavily involved in a wide array of campus leadership positions. After graduation I headed to Maine, and hiked 500 miles south on the Appalachian Trail. Unfortunately, I had to stop to attend to family issues. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in International Relations. In my spare time, I practice Krav Maga, Judo, and BJJ. Upon graduation, I would like to spend one more year in academia pursuing a Masters in Security Studies. I realize this is quite a bit of time in liberal academia, but what can I say? I like books and learning.

I have been interested in the military my entire life because I come from a family with a strong and proud history of service. My stepdad (read: dad) was wounded in Afghanistan in 2012. This was the point I knew I would serve in whatever capacity I might be able. I have followed Professional Soldiers for a few months, and finally decided to pull the trigger on creating an account. I am currently unsure as to how I would enter the service, either as an 09S or an 18x. However, after extended studies of small wars, irregular warfare, and counterinsurgency, the Special Forces has become a goal that will be pursued in time. I look forward to looking through the site and investigating this fantastic resource for the many gems it holds. Thank you for allowing me to consume your knowledge and wisdom, Quiet Professionals.

hey all guess I missed making my 1st post here so this is my 4th I think..... better late then never!! working hard on taking advice on following instructions and doing more reading but its just hard at times since I always wanna be right in the middle of the mix and leading from the front.... not much for standing on the sidelines! Anyways I am looking forward to learning and being a part of the forum..... my grammer isn't the greatest as you might have noticed lol but I make up for it in street smarts.... should come in handy down range.

anyway I was sitting around thinking about the meaning of life like I do and a documentary on the top tier military units came on... and it just happened to be the same day I got laid off..... total karma?! after some personal research I narrowed my options down to CAG (Delta force) and it was off to the recruiter.... he was a pretty good and said he could tell I had real potential but I had to go to the army 1st. we did look at the 18 x-ray but I couldn't do it because there was some stuff in my background from a few years ago (total BS btw). apparently though you can go to 11 bravo boot camp and make the switch there so that's the plan.

I had some more questions about getting from there to CAG (Delta force) but the recruiter didn't seem to know much about that so it was back to research! that led me to a bunch of places including here and now Im just trying to finalize my plan before I sign my life away on the dotted line, gotta have a plan several steps ahead before making your move

anyways I will be doing a lot of reading here and making sure my posts and private messages are squared away before I submit them.

I'm a former Ranger (2/75) that got out in 2012. Got a computer science degree, gave 'normal life' through software development a chance and have been mostly entirely disillusioned the day I started working again 1.5 years ago. Thank you for the opportunity and advice.

My name is Matt. I am 33 years old and I served 12 years in the Army. Joined about a month after 9/11. I started in logistics, was a medic for a few years and ended my career as a CBRN soldier. Three tours, twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan.

Best part of my career was getting to train/work with a group of guys from 5th Group during my second tour in Iraq. They offered to help train up me and my team in preparation for our mission of training Iraqi military. By far the best training/mentorship and professionalism I have ever experienced in my life was from the Quiet Professionals!

Got out in March 2013 and have done just about everything since then. Construction, retail, even Starbucks. Currently working in a unique security/ems position at my local zoological park. It is as cool and as boring as it sounds.

I am married with a daughter and in my spare time I am pretty much doing anything that gets me outdoors and moving.

Been a member of the forum for years and have never introduced myself.

Thanks for having me. :)

I am not sure if I have posted before, its been years since I was on this site, over 10 years I think.

Always wanted SF, not the tab, the mission. Turned 20 at basic, just in time to go to selection, but didn't make the cut. Was told to come back later. Went EOD, deployed to Iraq, then got out to go to school and get married.

Now I'm dying for another go, though the Army doesn't seem to keen on PS ATM.

28 yrs old, two daughters, and I am Reformed. Also, love the forum.

Hello, First off I’d like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the brave souls that hold the line and to the heroes that ran into the fire zealously and paid the ultimate price for their team and the freedoms that we still have today.

I am a 24 year old from Illinois stationed in Fort Bragg. I’ve aspired to be in SOF since I was a kid and came to the conclusion that The Green Berets is what I was going to work towards 3 years ago right before I enlisted. After many setbacks and obstacles, I finally have a Selection report date on August 30th 2017.

I am a husband, and a father of a 14 month old boy. In my free time I read, ruck, run, swim, lift, eat, and sleep, with an emphasis on becoming who I need to be to get to and through Selection.

I’ve been reading this forum daily for about a year and felt obligated to become a member, introduce myself, and thank all of the PS administrators and moderators who professionally share their invaluable insight.

Take care, and again, thank you very much. God bless you all!

To those who have gone before me, those that walk beside me, and those who will follow after I'm gone, thank you.

My name is Chris. I'm a Paralegal NCO with 8+ years on Active Duty, currently pursuing the honor of wearing the Green Beret. Spent the last few years contemplating my career options, observing the goings on in the world, and I feel that SF is calling me.

I'm heading out to Colorado in a few months, and I'm working with my recruiter here in Georgia to send me to SFAS in JAN18. In the meantime, I'm taking in all the knowledge and advice I can get from anyone willing to share.

My decision to go SF: Last year, I re-enlisted specifically to go to Carson, when I first learned that 10th SFG(A) was out there. A light bulb flashed in my head, and I started looking into the unit and SOF in general. I was drawn like a moth to the flame. I did everything I could think of to get an assignment there as a 27D, but found out their slots were all filled. Well, I decided I was going to Group, one way or another. Now I'm here, counting down the days. If anyone is in the area and wants to link up, or if anyone wants to talk offline, please feel free to PM me.

Regards,

I just hope to lurk here and gather information to improve myself so I can be the greatest asset possible to my country. The power of knowledge can never be overstated enough.

So I chose not to sign any other contract in MEPS because I was highly Pissed. So I went home and became a firefighter and received my paramedic license and later getting assigned to the PD as one of their Medics.
As more SF/Seals I meet through classes from SWAT, I found there is waivers and reserve units in SF.
Therefore a friend notified me ab a PT tryout for the 20th beginning of this year. Never rucked or truly ran... I went to see where I would fail and start training from there. Push ups sit ups pull ups were my strong point but the 2 mile and rucking kicked my tail. Now 6 months later from training 5-6 days a week I got my 2 mile from 15:52 to 14:15'sh and rucking 12 mile from 3:02 to 2:32. Push ups stil over 80, sit ups over 80, pull ups around 32 (depending on the day).
My goal is make APFT @ 300. Just hope in the next 6 months I'm able to take the PT again and receive a contract.
I can finally put the regret behind

Hello everyone. I've worked as a network engineer for the past 4 years and I'm quite satisfied with my path. My brother is 2 years older than me and has already served for 3 years. I've mostly been reading stories trying to visualize how my life would have been like if I had chosen the military straight out of high school like my brother. Nevertheless, I admire the stories here.

Hello all,

Thank you for the opportunity to join this unique and highly informative community. I'm 25 -years-old in my last semester of college. I currently have two 25M targets. Graduate, and get in Army shape. I am in the DEP program, with an OCS contract signed and waiting for me. My downrange target is to decide if the officer route is truly for me – which is why I joined the site to help me in my soul search.

Background:
Right out of high school I worked as a mechanic for four years, transitioning from motorcycles to small watercraft. Realized I loved wrenching, but did not want to see myself growing old with my head under a hood or in a hull. Gave education the good-old college try and here I am.

First off, Thank you for this incredible resource. Also, Thank you for your service.

I am 20 years old, recently finished my A.D. My whole life I have had the uncontrollable urge to serve my country at the highest capacity I could fathom. It took me a very long time to mature enough and wrap my mind and body around that same urge sadly, nevertheless; this is my time.

I have researched every single SOF occupation and always strongly considered the Navy SEALs as the path I would follow. Through my research and readings I found Army Special Forces and saw your mantra "De Oppresso Liber". This mantra for some reason has since then hit me hard, even when I was so motivated to become a SEAL. Part of the process that led me to pursue "the calling" ,as I have read from numerous QP's on this site. I found myself thinking that life would be everything I wanted and more once I attained a NSW Trident. This thought, could have ended my potential to serve at the highest capacity and perform my role in said capacity, if I hadn't revisited why I wanted to be a part of a SOF role.

Team, loyalty, drive, aggression and understanding the forces that work against and terrorize our country are why I want to be a Special Forces soldier. I have found my calling in life. I plan on improving my endurance, speed, situational awareness and ability to pay attention to details. I don't know how everything will work out. Not quitting is a given, I will perform to my closest rendition of perfection each and every day.

My next post will be made when I graduate SFQC.

Follow the calling.

Stay safe, best of luck in all life brings.

Greetings,

Not going to do the life story here since that would be long, convoluted, and boring. Let it suffice for now that I am a 36yo airborne infantry veteran, I passed selection 7 or 8 years ago but declined to continue down the pipeline. Now I'm trying to rejoin the NG and go to SFAS again. The dream lives on. Feel free to message me or ask questions.

I already sent an info sheet in via nationalguardsf.com and I'm waiting to hear back from them; it's been over a week now, idk what to expect for a turnaround. My next move is to hit up RI NG POC for A 2/19.

I used this site as a resource last time around and it was very helpful, but I never felt the need to post since most of my questions were answered by looking around on the site. Posting now as a general shout out and to talk about options. I'm not ruling out an active duty run.

Thanks in advance for tips and tricks.

My name is Flipper, I am a direct commission officer from the ROTC program at Furman University in Greenville, SC, graduated in May 2015. After graduation I found home in Kansas City, MO and joined the Army Reserve Medical Corps as a Health Services Administrator, subsequently, joining the 7227th Medical Support Unit in Columbia, MO as the Executive Officer. I have an Uncle who is a retired “Quite Professional,” and he has helped to guide me on this journey towards being awarded the Green Beret.

As a Reserve Soldier, if all goes as planned, my plan of action is as follows: I am looking to be recruited by the SWTD 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne), a National Guard Unit in Colorado (contact has already been made). I will attend their Special Forces Readiness Evaluation (SFRE) drill, followed by SFAS, and then transition into the National Guard before attending SFQC.

In closing, thank you for providing interested Civilians and Soldiers like me with the tools for success. You have done what you can to make us successful, it is now on us, as individuals, to actually succeed.

Im excited to ship next year and gain various perspectives about the pipeline through this online community.

Hello QPs and community,

For at least a little longer, I am a civilian, with no military background in my family. I just turned 27: older than the average recruit, but hopefully a little wiser too. I come from a pretty sheltered, liberal upbringing, which is probably why it took me this long to hear the call. Since high school I have been a fitness trainer with keen interest in languages, science and medicine.

I have been training and studying for about a year now to prepare for service; when I first got it into my head to enlist, I dreamed of joining the Air Force and becoming a Pararescueman, but an old friend and mentor who is now an 18D in 10th SFG persuaded me that the Army held more promise for me.

I took ASVAB this week and scored high in all areas. Now I'm working with my recruiter on the final hurdles to sign an 18X contract. I'm trying not to be too pleased with myself as I haven't accomplished anything yet, but I am determined and I know how to keep my mouth shut and my eyes open.

To all the QPs here: thank you for your service, and thank you in advance for any guidance you may be able to provide.

Your servant,
"John"

Greetings everyone,

Thank you to all the ladies and gentlemen who've served or supported the bravest operators in the world. Currently deployed myself supporting the OIR mission as well as some special guys.

Anyway, I enlisted as a mechanic when I was a junior in high school. I was extremely motivated by the challenges and opportunities to better myself that the army offered. For one it allowed me to pay for a degree in electrical engineering. However, as an E5 writing my own NCOERs, taking on multiple tasks for my platoon sergeant, volunteering to run remedial PT and still having no say in what we did or how we operated I felt I could have a greater impact on whatever organization I was part of as an officer.

As soon as I gained enough college credits I went OCS and branched as an intel officer for an aviation battalion. The aviation life is easy compared to the FSCs I had been in, and they're trying to get me to go to flight school, but SF has been my long term goal since I was enlisted. Even though I've already attended and SFRE, I'll be a 1LT promotable in FEB18, making me "eligible" to tryout for SF.

The first SFRE weekend I attended was back in OCT16, but unfortunately I cramped up on the ruck, puked bile and finished 10 mins over the limit. It was a humbling experience, as just 4 months prior I completed a ranger assessment in Fort Huachuca with a 2.5 hour 12 miler. It was a good experience and I learned a lot from it.

I'm looking at signing up and attending the next SFRE weekend, once I get back. In the meantime I would like to talk with some silent professionals about their experiences in the SF life.

War continues to change evolve and get more complicated (exhibit A: the Middle East). I know that SF are intended to be force multipliers but it seems like they are being utilized as advisers that are micromanaged and have to fight through endless amounts of red tape to get their mission accomplished... These are just my views from the outside of their operations so that's where I would appreciate your thoughts/views.

That's where I'm at. Feel free to message me.

Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you all!

Greetings,

Grew up in the greater Los Angeles area all my life, no traveling, less appealing neighborhood. Household took a blow to finances causing me to never enroll past 4th grade.

Always wanted to be in the military, but not just be military, to contribute. Far too many men and women sacrifice the entirety of their time and effort to their cause for me to do less.

After the arduous task of overcoming my aforementioned educational barriers I enlisted at the age of 20 years young under an active duty 14T contract of which I currently still serve out of Ft. Bliss.

Actually got back from my second SFAS attempt a couple months ago of which I was dropped for failing to find enough points during the Star Course and subsequently received an NTR (SFAS) as I've been told only two attempts is the new enlisted policy. Both attempts are the defining experiences of my military career so far. If there is anyone from class 10-17 around I'd love to touch base.

Actually highly interested now in taking up a support role in a SFG as the desire to contribute and level of inspiration drawn from the community has not waned. I asked the NG/AR recruiter to look into openings and it appears an opportunity is present, I will continue researching, and insight however blunt is welcomed.

Thank you all for having me.

A little older than most so I'm just trying to get/stay in the right shape through graduation and residency. I am proud and honored to be a team member of the SOCOM community. Legacy is tradition and I apologize for not introducing myself. I found this site so that we as brothers can collectively discuss issues and topics. As of now I am about to end my long road of travel from active duty... It has been an honor and privilege to serve with you my brothers in arms. Now currently wounded, I must surrender my bouncer to the depths of my locker.. lay down my guns, and mentally prepare for the transition of my life back to the rigors of society.... looking forward to chatting with you all.

Good afternoon,

I'm a sophomore in uni planning to BS in Comp Sci. Considering 18x, would like to be at assessment when I hit 20. I am doing well in this space, however I find that I crave to be part of a team that does more, in every way. There is something about being a warrior-scholar that deeply appeals to me. I would like to see if SF is interested in what I have to offer.

I have wrestled 5 years through high school, and unfortunately remain small/slim due to cutting lots of weight (had to remain below 113 lb). This causes me to be nervous about my physical capabilities and success. Currently whipping myself back into shape using advice from these forums, though difficult to find time outside of coursework/research/part-time.

I am looking for a mentor or anyone who I can talk to honestly about my thought process and planning. I would deeply appreciate anyone who would be willing to reach out or lend me a hand :)

Finally, I would like to thank you guys for this community. Such a wealth of relevant information, answers, and professionalism is very hard to come by. I hope I do not disappoint here.

I’m a sophomore at college double majoring with a Comp Sci BS/Economics BA. I go to school in NC and have lived there my whole life. I’m an incredibly curious person, and love learning about everything I can, any way I can(hence I read A LOT).

I have always been a big history buff, and have been especially especially interested in military history and just the military in general. However, it is only relatively recently that I began to seriously consider a real military career for myself (most likely after graduating college). This has spurred a whirlwind of a learning process concerning anything military on my part, and through that process I’ve discovered a deep fascination with the SOF world in general, and US SF’s in particular. I’ve been reading a lot in these forums for a while and have been quite impressed with the tremendous wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience I’ve encountered. So I finally decided to make an account and ask some of my own questions.

Hello all, my name is Andre. Very excited to be able to utilize a platform as such to connect with the best of the best, and I intend to make the most of it.

I am currently a Sophomore and second year ROTC Cadet at Eastern Washington University majoring in Political Science with a double minor in Japanese and Military Science.

I initially planned on enlisting, however due to a paperwork error that forced me to wait another 9 months or so, I came to EWU and poured all I had into the ROTC program and fell in love with it. I am working towards commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry upon graduation, and I have set my sights to serving in the Ranger Regiment shortly upon graduation. I am on a trajectory to go to BCT and Airborne this summer and either Army Mountain Warfare School or Air Assault next Summer. So far I have earned the Gold German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge and scored 1OO% on our Cadet Version of the EIB. PT Score is around 295 and when I planned on enlisting I scored a 94 on the ASVAB

Grandfather was a self proclaimed Green Beret in Vietnam {Old man was off his rocker, not sure it was all onehundred% true}, so from a young age I always knew SFAS was where I would end up at one point.

I am a Leader and spend every waking moment of my life working on being a better Leader and researching how to do so, I would like to do so here above all else, because I do not have any Special Forces Connections here with Cadet Command. Cant wait to get started.

Cheers

andreas

I am a 19 year old who recently graduated high school. Donning the Green Beret has always been the main goal through thick and through thin throughout my life, especially since my Grand Father told me stories of his experiences in Vietnam growing up. I am a helluva athlete and would have gone Division One for football had i not have torn my labrum junior year (I have gone about talking to the military Doctor and I am recovered enough that a waiver isn't needed), and I wish to study Philosophy here and abroad someday. I am joining this website because the men who have worn the green beret in the past and those who are still wearing it are my heroes and they have a seemingly infinite supply of knowledge that I would love to acquire. I have scored a nearly perfect APFT and got a 95 on my asvab. Currently debating whether I want to workout and truly push myself for 10 more months and enlist with an 18x contract (thinking of hoofing it down the coast with a couple bucks and my balls and transforming myself from a kid to a real man through the hardships I will face) or just pick whatever MOS will be the most efficient for a path to SF and enlist right now. Any information is good information. Cheers

Welcome. Lots of Marines have previously made that switch and become damn fine SF Soldiers. Go for it. If you eventually make it to an ODA, you'll invariably meet others that did the same.

There are differences between Army & Marine cultures. For instance...

Army Speak: "Team Viper Exfils at 2400L +/- 2 minutes, via MH-47...

Jarhead Speak: "Awright youse yangs, when Mickey's big hand and little hand are both on the twelve, the Whoppity-Whop will land..."

Grow a thick skin. You'll need it... ;)

Hello,

I've been a member of this site for some time now but have never introduced myself as I come here merely to learn and observe. I'm a husband, soon-to-be father, and a recent graduate of the Columbus Police Academy.

I have not served in the military but respect the hell out of those that have and will do my best as a LEO to protect the freedoms provided by those that have served.

Thank you for having me in this community.

Hello all,

I've read the forums for a bit, and thought I'd sign up. I spent 14 years in the Army as an 11B, then as a 92Y (I'm 35). I got out because of a loss in my family that took the wind out of my sails. I want to get back in and see if I'm a good fit for Army Special Forces. I've been doing the PT, taking language classes (Russian), and reading anything I can, to better educate myself about the SOF community, their mission and their training. I hope to lean something new, and hopefully I have some advice that might help someone someday on here. Above all, I'm here to learn.

Nice to meet you all!

Greetings everyone,
I'm active duty Army with about 9 years in the Army Band field. I know my current job hardly has any transferable skills to the SF community, but my tenacity and willingness to push myself past perceived limits has left me with a feeling of 'spinning my wheels'. I've had the good fortune of meeting a few SF guys along the way and it's always motivated me to pursue that life. With the full support of my family, I've recently committed myself to training for SFAS hopefully in the coming months. I know there's a wealth of knowledge and SMEs in this forum and I'm hoping to learn whatever I can by being in here.

24 what??

I hope you're going to school for spelling and sentence structure...

If you "make the switch"....if you go down the 18E path, message writing is "short, concise, to the point " messages.

As for the rag on ya...well, I just felt like it... Enjoy the site, great info here...

Thank you for pointing that out. I made the corrections in the post.

Oddly enough, The main reason I'm going back to school is to get better at writing and speaking.

Well, that's good. When you get up in rank, or maybe not even, you're going to be briefing some heavy hitters of another country depending on what your doing...Also, presenting classes to the indig. You'd be surprised how many may speak English better than we do :p

good luck..

Hey there, I'm 29 years old and am a 63 rep for Florida NG.
I just completed BLC and head to SFOC next month. Very eager to continue in the pipeline! It's been a dream of mine for many years to get the opportunity to do this.
I do cyber security in the civilian world and will be going back to that after my training.

QPs,

My family calls me Budd, I am a 21 year-old college student, planning to enlist, and currently considering an 18X contract. After lurking here for a while, my main source of hesitation on 18X is the opinion many QPs (on this board and that I know personally) have expressed, that it is better to serve time somewhere else in the Army before coming to selection. On the other hand, I know that many of the QPs on this board were X-rays and felt they had every opportunity to develop into a value-add to their team. Because of this, I’m also considering the 11X Option 40 to develop skills and maturity, and to be at a unit designed to develop junior Soldiers so that I could be a value-add to a team later. Suffice it to say I feel divided on this question and have been searching here to find some answers.

My exposure to SF is limited, but I did have the opportunity to spend 10 days with an ODA in a training environment shortly after they finished an Iraq deployment, and I learned a lot from them, including some quality marksmanship and a little bit of when to shut the fuck up. That was 2.5 years ago now, and I felt at 19 that I certainly did not have sufficient maturity to run with that pack, but I was extremely impressed by the team, and as I have read more about the UW mission and SF history, I have come to feel it as a calling.

A little more in the way of biography: I grew up on the Gulf Coast and then on a lake, so I love the water and the outdoors. I’ve studied Russian for 5 semesters. I ran cross country in high school and now I’m an amateur/college club triathlete and endurance runner. I race sprint- and Olympic-distance, and I’ve run a 13.1, a few 26.2s, and a 50mi.

Here’s to 50 more some day, but maybe with a little bit of weight this time.

I am 26 years old, currently finishing up my PhD. I have spent the last 2 or 3 years thinking about Army Special Forces every single day, reading just about every book and resource I could find on the topic (and related topics). While I could support the goals of our country scientifically, I am motivated to do more. I am an avid distance runner and have been working out regularly with a (now) friend who has successfully trained several others for selection.

I love shooting, hunting, backpacking, and the outdoors. I grew up around firearms, and feel comfortable, but prepared to learn a lot more. I also love to scuba dive, and try to dive year round. My training is as an experimental nuclear physicist, which, unless I'm disarming nuclear weapons will most likely not be directly used; still, I hope to continue applying an analytical and thoughtful approach to problem solving in my work, whatever it may be.

I currently live in North Carolina, not too far from Fort Bragg, although I don't personally know any SF soldiers in the area (aside from some beers with an 18D I randomly met).

While it will be a big leap for me to change over to the military, I am motivated to do so, and looking forward to the possibility of a future involving Special Forces. I intend to enter as an 18X shortly after I complete my doctorate.

"With freedom comes responsibility"

After finishing school, studying business management and finance, searching for a worthwhile profession has drawn me to the mission and skill set of the Army and more specifically it's special operations. As soon as I learned the motto of SF was "De Oppresso Liber" I knew that that purpose was something I wanted to aspire to.

My name is Rob. I am currently a student with an Intercultural Studies major. I am 35 years old and am an Air Force veteran of six years and most recently a car salesman. After making the decision to go back into the military in March 2017, my wife and I decided that special operations was the route we were going to take. After much research Special Forces stands out as the best option. Specifically the opportunity to work side-by-side with other countries, being apart of such an elite group, and of course, the cool-guy stuff.

We made the decision to move to a school where I can use the GI Bill, so I can get back in the swing of education, but really just have the extra time to train in preparation for the 18X program. I am currently running a two-a-days program with runs, rucks, calisthenics, and strength training. It just so happens that I am able to train with a recently separated Combat Controller, which has been very educational and has pushed me physically.

I am glad and humbled to participate in this forum, to glean wisdom from those who have gone before me. Thank you.

Hello, I've served as an MP in the National Guard for the past 8 years with 2 tours under my belt. I'm currently studying to retake my ASVAB so I can raise my GT score to or, preferably, higher than 110. I joined this website because my LT, who's hoping to join SF as well, recommended this site to expand my knowledge. I'm looking forward to reading more of these forums & gaining more knowledge from the QP's.

Prior Service Soldier, working on getting back in the Army.

I've been out for 5 years now, and have wanted to get back in for the past 3 years. Finally, the Prior Service Business Rules are in my favor, and I'm in contact with a recruiter getting everything in order and completed. The logistics of it aren't simple when joining from overseas, but just a small hurdle along the path.

I've been fairly active since leaving the Army, and have kept in decent shape, though I have placed lots more emphasis on speed strength and endurance over the past few months, in preparation for procuring an 18X contract.

Glad to be welcomed here as a guest, and I hope to absorb as much knowledge as possible from all of the BTDT's.

Hello.
Currently active Navy (E6 9+yrs). Spent the last 6 years with NECC, 5 of those with a "riverine" squadron and spent a year as a qualed JTAC. Slowly and painfully watched everything we trained for and my platoon phased out, and the brown water tradition die. I have been forced back to shore duty doing a job I can't stand, surrounded by people I do not fit in with what so ever.
Now that I'm a little bit older, some what wiser and a lot more humble, with some gas left in the tank, I'm looking to switch over and pursue a career with SF. I've had the privelage of training alongside quite a few SOF guys from every branch and the SF guys I've met were without a doubt top of the list when it comes to professionalism, maturity, being down to earth and all around good people. That is what I want to be a part of the most.
After searching for info and not getting any real advice or info from recruiters, I found myself here. Seems like the best place to self educate and answer anything anyone could imagine.
Thank you for letting me sit in. -BrianP

Thanks for y'all's service.
I'm J from Amarillo Texas, I joined yesterday with an 18x and ship out April 16. I want to earn everything I get, and I plan on working hard to achieve it. I have a lot of respect for y'all and I hope to earn the honor of being part of the US Army Special Forces. Thanks for this site and the information it contains. I'm 29, I have a bachelors degree in biology, scored a 98 on the ASVAB, and in great shape. I tried becoming a SEAL first, and the Navy wouldn't give me an age waiver. Their physical screening test (PST) is: 500 meter combat side stroke swim, push ups, sit ups, pull ups, 1.5 mile run. I scored: 8:32, 77, 72, 16, 9:04. I have gotten my calisthenics up to: 80+, 80+, 20+, and continuing to work on them. I have a chip on my shoulder that the Navy didn't want me, and after researching and developing a faint idea of what y'all do, this is 100% my first option, and I feel like God had this plan for me all along. I scored "heavy" on the OPAT today. I'm looking forward to the challenge, extremely excited, I'm hoping to learn lots, keep my mouth shut, ears open, head down, and feet moving. I believe everything I shared in this post won't mean jack unless I have the mental toughness and fortitude to not quit, and I believe 100% that I have that mentality and the determination to accomplish this. Again thank you for your time, this website, and most importantly your service that keeps our great nation free, it's an honor to comment here.

I’m also in Amarillo. It’s a small world. I’ll tell you this site is awesome for gathering knowledge from the QP’s. Just make sure to do a lot of reading and use the search bar. I’ve been on here since 2011 and it seems like the majority of the questions that people ask have already been answered. I just wanted to drop in and say “Hello!” and good luck to you. Feel free to message me at anytime. By the way, I was a Captain on AFD until last November. I injured my knee and was forced to retire. Stay safe!

Hello, I'll keep it simple, I've been in the army for 4 years now as National Guard with the 45th IBCT. I am wanting to do more in my military career and finishing my goal. As of right now I am training overseas as much as I can, and when I'm finished here I am hoping to be in shape enough to go through the pre-selection process. Thanks to the QP's for this forum, it's been a great source of practical knowledge and wisdom about SF, selection, and the q-course. Hey all,
EASed nearly a year ago, and I'll be retraining as a 68W in the National Guard in the near future. In the meantime I'm doing the whole college thing and enjoying what feels like unlimited free time with my wife and dog. I'm also getting into pretty dang good shape since I now have total control over my diet and workouts. It's nice to be able to stick to a program without it being interrupted by going to the field!
I'm strongly considering transferring to special forces support at some point in the future, or trying for selection itself. I'm still gathering as much information as possible, hence signing up on this forum. I'll mostly be reading and absorbing as much as possible!
Thanks to everyone who contributes around here! It's truly invaluable.

I am a 24 year old college grad working full time selling gym memberships. I have been considering a career in the armed forces since high school but have yet to make the commitment.

I'm browsing this forum in search of opinions and experiences from those who have been there, done that. I believe this is one of the best sources of information to help encourage or dissuade me in my decision making.

Additionally I am considering; Earn a commission and later apply for Special Forces, or enlist and apply directly for Special Forces.

I greatly appreciate any and all insight/advice regarding the Special Forces community and armed forces as a whole. I have entered some notes in my profile for you all to get a glimpse at who I am, but am open to PM's to further discuss myself and my options.

Name is Wilson. 12.5 years active army. 2 yrs as an 88m with 423rd at Carson. Last 10.5 doing other things. Reclassed 11b, cut to 82nd 325th 2nd bn. Bragg had these really cool guys who ran PT like it was life dependent so I inquired about their unit designation and proximity to the JFKSWCS. Got my answer. So on and so forth. Multiple deployments. Last 1.5 yrs volunteered for SMU. Still in the employ of the DOD although I have hopped from dept to agency. Primary is currently overseeing the health, instruction, and general overwatch of my 4 kiddos, aged 2 yrs to 15. Why I no longer deploy 300 out of 365. I have enjoyed reading threads from people and places I recall and will continue to do so. I don’t talk much, not much that hasn’t been said already. But I will chyme in if I think I can help. I’m a weapons guy by trade so that’s usually where I tend to navigate.

Thanks, look forward to lurking,

Well, I suppose that it's high time I did this. I'm going to be entering college come fall and will be going on an AROTC scholarship. I'm also an 18A/CDQC hopeful so I figured that I would come back to this website (after a long time spent lurking) in order to give myself a good number of years to train and prepare.

Edit as of 8/30/18: As of now, I am still in college and still plan to commission, but I am no longer on scholarship through ROTC. Oh and I'm also now a 12B in the NG.

Currently serving in the Army National Guard. I'm a recent graduate of Federal OCS and I branched Field Artillery. I'm looking to explore my options for the future and learn and read from other people about the SF experience, the training pipeline, tips, and preparation for SFAS.

I'm 27 and I graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from a small state university. My hobbies include working on cars, learning languages (I'm functionally conversational in Russian, I'm self taught), traveling, food, cooking, and reading. I'm starting to get into guns as another hobby.

My 25m target is to improve my run times, numbers in the weight room, and pass FABOLC. My 10000m target is to focus on passing and getting selected to attend SFRE.

I'm basically going to be lurking and reading rather than posting because it will be a long time until I'm even eligible to attend SFAS/SFQC. If my mind is still focused on being SF, I will stick to it, but if a couple of years down the line, that my life priorities have changed, that's fine too, I'm open minded. Either way, I'm going to continue to PT and learn.

I have a few weaknesses and strengths that I need to play into. I need to learn to speak up more and be more assertive when in leadership roles, because I feel that I don't give off the "strong leader" vibe as a first impression. For strength wise, I consider myself more patient than most, I never quit, and I'm quite dedicated when it comes to PT.

I probably won't really post here but I fgured I might as well create an account. I also know Arabic pretty well (MSA and Levantine) if anyone has any DLI questions.

Currently serving as a National Guard engineer officer. My current duty assignment is as a sapper platoon leader. On the civilian side I work as a strength and conditioning coach while pursuing my master's degree.

I plan to attend an SFRE with a National Guard group upon completion of my junior staff time. I feel an obligation to give back to an organization that has frankly sunk a lot of time and money into me, as well as develop an understanding of staff functions before I jump into another training pipeline.

I enjoy most outdoor activities, endurance sports, weight lifting, and reading on any subject.

25 M target is to preserve my health as I improve my fitness, and further develop my leadership abilities. I especially need to develop techniques beyond having a short term plan, putting my head down, and trucking until stuff gets done. 300 M target is to follow my strip map for not only progressing but also reconciling both my military and civilian careers.

Hello, I've been lurking on the site for a while, finally decided to register and introduce myself.

33 year old non prior service working toward a rep 63 contract with the 20th. I'm currently a defense contractor working for the DOD-Army. Looking to be part of something greater than myself, be part of what I hear is an amazing brotherhood.

I was a collegiate distance runner, so the endurance stuff comes naturally to me. Working on upper body strength, pull-ups, rope climbing, etc. Just ordered "get selected". Trying to prepare myself as best I can.

27, finishing Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Pursuing an 18X contract. SF is the career field where I can offer myself as an asset to a team, whereby optimally using my mind and body. My desire is to contribute in a way that impacts change in foreign lands, on behalf of the US.

Current preparation: scouring the forum day & night; reading in an equivalent amount (books on operations, history of geographic regions, combat, leadership, mindset); learning to read and write in Arabic (beginner in Modern Standard, also peeking at Pashto); familiarizing myself of current events; learning Land Nav.

Physical Prep: building cals and endurance, 78 push ups, 60 sit ups, 16 pull-ups, 2 mi in 13:20. Currently on THOR3 14-week strength program. New to rucking (learning pace, foot-care, how to properly pack a ruck). Light swimming and water con.

I’m here to be a sponge and learn from the QPs.

Hello. Currently, I am an attorney with a practice focused on serving clients in the beverage-alcohol industry. I represent breweries, distilleries, wineries, restaurants, etc.

I'm married with 3 kids (5, 3, and 1.5) and one on the way.

I am working with a 20th SFG recruiter. We are discussing the possibility of two options: 1) Rep 63 route, or 2) JAG route.

I want to go the Rep 63 route, but I am having trouble getting an age waiver (I am 37). I hope to find information regarding age waivers, among other topics, on this site.

Thank you.

I am currently a civilian engineer working in the defense contracting industry. I have been in contact with a SF recruiter, planning to enlist in the National Guard with Rep 63 contract. Current plan is to leave for basic sometime late this year. I've been lurking on this site for about 2 months, made the account a month ago, just now getting around to introducing myself. It seems like just about every question known to man has already been asked and answered here so it seems unlikely I will have much presence.

I've been lifting weights off and on for about 5 years. My age, height and weight are 23, 6'3" and 225 lbs. Right now my focus is increasing my endurance with calisthenics and improving my PT scores while still lifting some weights. I've read Chosen Soldier, currently splitting time between Lions of Kandahar and Get selected!.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has answered questions on this forum in the past. You've indirectly provided me with a lot of helpful information and answered a lot of my questions as well.

Good afternoon, Gentlemen.

I am a 17 year-old from Texas that is interested in absorbing as much information I can about SF and the SF lifestyle. I do not intend to post often as I can assume most/all of my questions have already been asked and answered, nor do I intend to butt my head into discussions where I do not belong. I'm simply here to learn.

Currently going through the process of obtaining a Rep63 contract out of state. I've been a read-only member for a couple years now and the information here has been incredibly helpful. I'm working with an Army recruiter (no NG near me) and we're figuring out the NG SF side of it as we go. I hope to sign within the next month or two, depending on how quickly we can navigate the NG SF enlistment process.

Have been here a few years and thought I had already made an introduction. Made a few couple posts and was called out. After this introduction I will go elevate my feet.

Joined in '85 as a 31V with the unassigned airborne option. Went to RIP but got hurt and was sent to the 82nd. Wound up staying my entire career on Bragg with the exception of short tours to Panama (1/508 PIR) and Korea (LRSD). Last assignment was as a platoon sergeant in Corps LRS (F/51st).

Also did concurrent time in a national motorcycle club, lived at the clubhouse for a few years (saved a ton of BAH), retired in '06 (Good terms). Have been getting more and more involved in professional motorcycle racing (drag and land speed).

After retiring from the Army I worked for TSE in Fayetteville for ten years. After getting laid off a year or so ago from TSE I took a position with Antenna Research Associates. Lots of fun. I am still involved in the tactical stuff but doing a bunch of other really interesting stuff. Recent projects include multi-antenna array for a command destruction system used on a missile range.

Anyways, I have to go elevate my feet and smoke myself.

Welcome to all the FNG's.

Until such time as you have something worth saying, I would strongly suggest you spend a lot of time reading, searching and keeping YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

Hints:

Find the Reaper's post "A Message to Garcia" read it, then read it again

use your google-foo and hunt for your answers, both here on and the web.

ask questions sparingly, there are no "new and improved" questions. Someone has already answered it. Just remember that color, date, temperature, and altitude are universal variables and don't alter the answer.

Did I tell you to find and use the SEARCH button??

Be advised, There are several titles you can earn while here. At the top of the list are those with Quiet Professional. They are vetted BTDT Special Forces qualified members..

At the bottom are those with FTFSI,, Don't be Carl and WIN the FTFSI moniker.

Also, learn the use of OPSEC and PERSEC. This site like most has search spiders running all the time. Yahoo, Google, and persons of dubious distinction are always happy to collect YOUR information.. Proper names, addresses, unit locations....

This is a protective warning, Nuff Said??

SHELDON LETTICH is a...........

Enjoy, keep your eyes on the target, never give up...

For those that strive to become a QP, congratulation and good luck.

For the families, Thank you for your support. Your loved ones will need 110%.

For those on AD, Reserve, & Guard here for an education, Thank you for your service..

All,

It is an honor and a privilege to be here on this forum with those who earned their place in their respective services and those who are prospective candidates like myself. It is beyond gracious for you to allow use of your experience and knowledge. I thank you all for your past, present, and continued service to this country by supporting us.

I am currently a 26 YOM Firefighter/EMT-B about to graduate with my Paramedic certification. I have always wanted to serve in this nation's military but I wanted to mature, gain experience, and enlist later to come in and be as much of an asset as I could while still serving my community. JFK said it much better than I ever could.

My intention is to enlist 18x and give my all to have even the opportunity to attend the interview that is a career in Special Forces. I have been stalking the shadows of this forum for years now. I read "Message to Garcia" frequently to remind myself of where my mindset should be and the process of getting there is lifelong. The moment one thinks they have learned everything is the same moment they fall behind and are a danger to others. I look forward to potential ties I make with this community and the information I will gain.

I hope one day I can do the same for others as you have done for us,

Hi, my name is Chad.

I am an avid follower of history both Military and NonMilitary. I have a lot of similar interest as other members of this board.

I had an "odd" encounter with a person who said they were in the special forces. Several of the things he said don't "ring true" with what I know about how members act. I had a member of another board recommend I come on here and discuss the story to get the straight dope.

After I get approved I will related the story in the appropriate forum.

Howdy,

First and foremost, thanks for allowing me to be a guest on this site. I have spent a majority of the past 72 hours digesting the wealth of information present on this forum.

My background -

I am 24 year old civilian from Texas with one semester left in graduate school and I’m very seriously considering enlisting as an 18X after graduation.

For my Bachelors I majored in Political Science, History, and Arabic Studies. My Masters degree is in International Affairs with an emphasis on National Security & Diplomacy, Cybersecurity, and the Middle East.

I have lived abroad, in two Middle Eastern countries and one South American country for extended periods of time. My Arabic is advanced, my Spanish is serviceable enough to get me through basic day to day stuff in a foreign country, and I started learning Farsi a few months ago.

The closer I get to graduation, the less a cushy cybersecurity job in Austin or an analyst job in D.C. appeals to me. A mentor of mine with connections in the SOF community recommended I look into serving either as a PJ or in the SF.

After much in-depth research and soul-searching, I’ve decided that I am far more interested in and passionate about the primary mission objectives of the SF, which is what brings me to this forum.

Although I’m a gym-rat, my running ability isn’t where it needs to be for any potential questions I’d have to even be relevant, so I don’t intend to ask questions on this board for quite some time. I’m just here to learn and soak up as much information as I can whenever I’m not out getting my mile time down.

My mouth will be shut and my eyes and ears wide open. Thanks for having me.

Hi, I'm Kelly! I'm 17. I was born January of 2001. My dad is retired Army so I've lived in many different states, but I grew up in Texas and live in Florida now. I understand that I'm young; please don't hold it against me. I'm not like other people my age--entitled or disrespectful. I believe in earning things, respect, and humility. Some things to know about me:
Strengths: Smart, determined, problemsolver, optimistic, realistic, compassionate, hate to lose, honest, generous, tolerant, self-improver, good listener.
Weaknesses: impatient, too nice, too trusting, I can have anger-management issues at times.
Likes: coconuts, cheetos, cheesecake, horror, helping people, music, crime/detective shows/dramas, National Geographic Magazine, being outside.
Dislikes: liars, selfish/entitled/arrogant/attention-seeking/fake/ignorant people, arguing over trifling things.
I'm a little short and somewhat muscular, thin, medium tan skin, brown-eyed, I have medium-long black curly/wavy hair. I love rock n' roll. I wear lots of monochromatic colors and semi-loose clothes. I am also Mexican-American and Puerto Rican.
I hope to be a Green Beret someday, and I am planning on enlisting as an 18x. I want to make it clear that I am not trying to be stupid and just want to learn from the true Quiet Professionals. I am honored to be allowed to speak here and will respect to the utmost of my ability.

Hello,

I am a 6’7” 23 year old EMT currently in paramedic school in the North Dallas area.

I have just completed my bachelors in international business with a minor in German. Which was followed by living in Austria and then Germany for approximately 2 months as part of language immersion program.

My German is roughly intermediate level and have begun learning Russian. I plan on traveling to Ukraine or Russia for language immersion at some point but will use further forum boards to decide if it is worth it or not.

My hope is to use this forum to absorb as much information as possible and once I fulfill my paramedic contract obligations plan to interview for an 18x contract. Thank you for allowing me to join this forum and hear real perspectives from actual quiet professionals.

Greetings everyone,

It is a pleasure to connect with you all and an honor to potentially participate in the discourse and exchange of information facilitated by this outstanding platform. I am 29 years old and live in Miami Beach, Florida. I am married with a 20 month old son and my wife and I are expecting to welcome another baby boy to the family in May of this year. I have a bachelors degree in International Finance and Marketing from the University of Miami, an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, and a Law Degree from Nova Southeastern University. After practicing corporate law for 3 years at a large firm in Coral Gables I left to start my own law firm. My firm, which has been in business for almost three years and has 15 employees, focuses on international corporate law. My grandfather served as an enlisted infantryman in the Marine Corps during which time he fought in WWII, and later joined the Navy as an officer and served in the Korean War. I have always had a strong desire to serve and knew I would do so. However, I took an alternative path insofar as I chose to knock out my educational and business goals first, start and family, and then shift my focus to serving in the military. I speak Spanish fluently (both spoken and written), and am proficient in French, Hebrew, German, and Bulgarian (only spoken). I recently enlisted in the National Guard as an 11B. This MOS choice, and the choice to enlist rather that go the Officer route, was not understood or very well recieved by the various recruiters I dealt with along the way. However, I have always learned every job I have ever done from the ground up, starting with the fundamentals. I felt that the same should apply with respect to my career as a soldier and given my “white collar” career background I believe putting in time and paying my dues as a grunt will not only serve this purpose, but should give me a more comprehensive understanding of how the Army functions as an organization in general as my career progresses with the Army. My ultimate goal is to take the necessary steps at some point during the latter half of my initial 4 year contract to attend SFAS, and the Q Course subsequent thereto. I am extremely aware of the importance of focusing on my 5 meter target, but I always plan multiple steps ahead. I am just wired that way, and this is what allows me to determine what my short term goal, or 5 meter target, needs to be today. I also am aware that I am almost 30 and not getting any younger, but My diet and PT routine will keep me sharp and competing with the young guys for as long as it takes. I look forward to speaking with some QP's and hopefully getting some valuable advice through my journey. I also welcome the opportunity to gain more insight into the SF world and community. I greatly appreciate those who take the time to operate and administer this site, and the QP's for their invaluable contributions to the platform. This site is truly the holy grail for individuals such as myself and it is a privilidge to be a part of it. In the event I am able to add value and contribute to any of the forums based on my own professional experience and background, to the extent same is relevant, I will absolutely do so.

Hello everyone. My name is Mitch. 26 years ago I was SSg Harry Myers. I was a 18 C on 163 and 166. I left service due to spinal injuries, lower back and neck.
I was a washout of the 300F1 before going 18C.
SSg Dagnon was one of my instructors.
Legal name change due to a stalker using ID. LEOs and Courts offered no help and it became a financial drain and ongoing physical security risk to myself, my son and new women in my life. Name change put an end to her abusing my credit and tracking me with those credentials.
I left service and worked for Boeing, then Microsoft and some banks in tech industry in Seattle. I liked the work, hated the people.
Due to progressive deterioration of injuries, I was in a wheelchair by 2003. It's been a battle dealing with the VA to get proper care, surgeries, and re-learning how to walk.

I now volunteer my time and effort for several foundations supporting veterans. After two divorces in this state, and having the state treat me as a criminal both times for nothing more than learning I served in SF, I am now wanting to work with those wanting to change laws to help better protect us in court.

I am grateful to be a part of this brotherhood and look to serve it the best I can with what I have.

Good evening Quiet Professionals, it is an honor and priviledge to be on this site. The knowledge and wisdom here is what I have been looking for, so I am grateful. I served AD in the Marine Corps for 5 years in the Infantry as well as Security Forces, yet feel called for more. I don't want recognition, I want justice and freedom for those oppressed. I just swore in with an ARNG unit as an 11B, and look forward to giving all I have. Should I get afforded the chance I'm seeking to attend a SF tryout, I will go and give everything, thinking of those around me. Should I pass, I will do the same at SFAS. I will look no further for now and am grateful I still get to serve my country.

Hello gents,

24 y/old, recently enlisted in the Guard with a Rep-63. Read the forums religiously prior to enlisting to get a better idea of the trials ahead, and what the profession entails. Just wanted to say hello, and thanks for the insight.

Cheers
