Supporters Block Funeral Protest
http://www.fox4kc.com/news/wdaf-cjsa...4.story?hpt=T2
Hope this happens more frequently. They seem to have a lack of respect for those who gave all.

Most of us support our Troops!
Outstanding! I hope the supporters brought some small measure of comfort to this Gold Star family. Kudos to the organizers.

Would buy all the supporting town folk beers!
As far as the members of that "church," I hope they enjoy their time here on earth, because it is going to be a hot, greuling time for Them in HELL.

Weston is a good town.
Right by Ft Leavenworth, which is where the Westboro crew belongs.

Weston is a nice area.
Locally people are tired of Phelps antics and he increasingly finds himself on the wrong end of the numbers game. Last week a liberal leaning customer went on rant about him and regardless freedom of speech there are some things preempt your rights...and harassing a grieving family is one of them..
If it weren't for code of conduct and the legal ramifications the local Patriot Guard would make him disappear
Phelps days are numbered, he is either going to fade away or harass the wrong family member.

And once again...
I'm glad people are standing up to this - what "God hating fags" has to do with someone who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country is beyond me:

Westboro protesters face jeers and slashed tires
Members of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., drive on two flat tires Saturday after protesting outside the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James
McALESTER - Members of a Kansas church that protests at military funerals may have found themselves in the wrong town Saturday.
Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed.
To make matters worse, as their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires, with a McAlester police car following behind, the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle, according to police.
The minivan finally pulled over several blocks away in a shopping center parking lot, where AAA was called. A flatbed service truck arrived and loaded up the minivan. Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller said the minivan was taken to Walmart for repairs.
Even before the protesters discovered their damaged tires, they faced off with a massive crowd of jeering and taunting counterprotesters at Third Street and Washington Avenue, two blocks from the First Baptist Church, where the soldier's funeral was held.
Miller estimated that crowd to number nearly 1,000 people, and they not only drowned out the Westboro protesters with jeers, but with raucous chants of "USA, USA."
A few motorcyclists interspersed among the crowd also revved up their engines to muffle the protests.
More than two dozen law-enforcement officers - state troopers, sheriff's deputies and city police - formed a security cordon around the Westboro protesters.
"We're here to protect everyone," Miller said.
Westboro members picket military funerals across the country, spreading their message that "God hates America" because it tolerates homosexuality"
For the record, they actually posted their picket schedule for those who would like to attend, catchy URL and all:
LINK
REALLY wish they would come through Memphis... Just noticed the sticker/banner at the bottom of the page that says, "Thanks God for Dead Soldiers"...

I think it would be a good idea to alter that link Nightfall.
Looks like people are fighting back, those jackasses have the right to protest just as others have the right to counter-protest.

SGT Jason McCluskey Funeral
I was SGT Jason "Mick" McCluskey's Platoon Sergeant, his was the funeral which the Tulsa World link covers. On top of the people of McAlester, OK coming together the Patriot Guard played a huge role in successfully snuffing out the protestors. My 1SG and I contacted them at 2300L the night before the funeral, and by 0300 the next day they had 5 ride captains and over 160 members coming from Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, New Mexico, Arkansas and Oklahoma. These guys did an outstanding job, their professionalism and attention to detail was on point. They even conducted recon, and sent me a detailed debriefing of the funeral/ceremonies. Just wanted to share the experience as it was my first with the Patriot Guard and the Westboro extremists. Have a good one.

Agree, Gypsy. This Weston situation combined with the recent California flag-on-his-bike boy [ "Kalifornia Douchebaggery" ] shows me what an important role the PGR is playing. I love it and I'm annoyed at the same time. What happened to the responsibility of the rest of us civilians in protecting our patriotic symbols and the soldiers who died for them? Why is it just veterans or military family members who carry these items or ceremonies as sacred?
Thank God for the PGR and the voice they give to those who are too sad to speak, or too young to speak, or whatever the case may be....

Awesome for PGR! Since the courts won't stand up for deceased veterans, we'll just have to stand up for ourselves.
