MORALES, Orlando, Sergeant, USASF

Sergeant Orlando Morales, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, 1st Special Forces, was killed in action 29 March 2003 in an ambush in Helmand, Afghanistan.

Sergeant Morales, 33, was born in the Central Puerto Rican town of Orocovis. He spent much of his childhood in Reading, Pennsylvania, and after high school moved back to Manati on the north coast of Puerto Rico.

Sergeant Morales leaves behind his wife, Roxana from South Florida, and an 18 month old daughter.

Rest in peace, Orlando.

I didn't know about his passing until tonight, when Viking mentioned it to me. Sgt. Morales was a fellow team leader in my platoon in the 1/327, before he became a QP. We weren't the best of friends, but he was a good, righteous man, and a fine soldier. The nation and the Army are a lesser place without him.

I believe that SF is a 'calling' - not too different from the calling missionaries I know received. I knew instantly that it was for me, and that I would do all I could to achieve it. Most others I know in SF experienced something similar. If, as you say, you HAVE searched and read, and you do not KNOW if this is the path for you --- it is not....
