SFAS Questions

Gentlemen,
I am an active duty squid "O" in the process of an interservice transfer to the Army. I have an overwhwelming desire to fight the enemies of our great nation in the ranks of the Quiet Professionals. I have been selected to attend SFAS where I will find out if I have what it takes. During the past few years, I served as a Detachment OIC in SBT 20 and deployed to the NAG with NSWRON 7/10. I appreciate your time and attention.

I have a few questions that I have not found the answers to in my research. I am not trying to gain an unfair advantage in SFAS, just trying to get up to speed as I make the transfer from boats to boots.

1. Equipment configuration. I know what equipment to bring and what training regimine to follow as per the SORC website. My question is... How do I configure my gear. Ie what goes where on my LBE. Also, if I can get a shape to train with, should it be slung or hand carried at all times. I would like to know how these things will be required at SFAS. (Without violating any disclosure agreements)

2. Any other helpful advice in preparing for SFAS (which I will not know from SOC Net, SORC, or AKO) will be sincerely appreciated.

3. Shot in the dark question (cart before horse I know)...I have attended the NSW required Navy SERE course. Will this satisfy the Army SF reqs or should I just plan on losing 15 more lbs.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Very respectfully,
boat guy

Boat guy-
There is a thread on here where SF candidates list there SFAS ship date, etc. Then they are to PM this information to an ADMIN (NousDefionsDoc). I recommend doing this. You will thank me later.

I am sure one of the SF candidates can chime in and direct you to the thread with a link.

Welcome and good luck.

I've found "SFAS- The Experince" by Basenshukai (in the SFAS forum), more that helpful and a very good read. Also check out "training the Mind" by NDD. Those two threads are a start point for what I'm doing to prep and train for SFAS.

BG:

Do some searches and read everything here in the relevant forums.

As a prospective 18A, you will be held to a higher standard, and you will be competing with officers who are Ranger qualified, who have spent several years in an infantry unit, and are probably combat vets. You need to bring your A Game. Our NCOs deserve the best leadership we can find.

1. You will be told how to assemble your gear. There won't be that much of it. Your rifle will be carried, and I strongly recommend that you dummy cord it.

2. You have all of the info you need prior to arrival.

3. A Level C SERE course is required. If your course meets that criteria, you MAY be given credit. If you are unwilling to attend SERE again to become SF qualified, I recommend that you do not start down this path. BTW, as you note, that is Phase VI, I recommend that you focus on the 25m. target of Phase I first.

Good luck.

Rabbit Stew is my favorite

Thank you gentlemen for your insight.
Tyrsnbdr I have found "The Experience" and all of NDDs posts extremely enlightening. TR thanks for the advice and answers...No worries on SERE, I will gladly go back. I have not had a really good rabbit stew since my first jaunt. I appreciate all of the replies. Have a fine day.
