Makin' Bacon
No, I'm not talking about two LEOs "gettin' busy" or "doing the dirty deed", I'm wonder what's the best way to make bacon?
Doing it the old fashion way by frying it up it a skillet?
On a griddle?
Baking it in the oven?
Or dare I say ... dare, dare ... microwaving it?
What are some of the ways you make this staple of Americana?
Tactics, Techniques and Procedures.

I usually nuke it on paper towels...less mess. Or half and half micro/skillet if I want some drippings.

Baking it, 400 degrees on a screen in a roasting pan until browned (I like my bacon crisp on the outside and still a little chewy inside, use lower temp to get even crispiness)... Then dry on a baking sheet lined with paper towels.
I'll do it on an electric skillet if I don't feel like heating up the oven or am only doing a couple of slices.
After cooking the bacon, I run the drippings through a coffee filter in a strainer and save the grease for other dishes.
Candied with maple syrup and a little cayenne is really really good.

If you want less mess put it on parchment paper and put it in the oven.
If you want it done quick fry it.
If I catch you placing it in a "microwave" I'll have to ban you from this website.
The only thing I use the "microwave" for is heating water............. and the only reason I have one is because the house I purchased came with one above the stove.
IMO the microwave is the most useless piece of equipment ever invented for the kitchen..............
I'd take a set of Ginsu knives over the best microwave made.....

Caramelized Bacon & Bacon Cakes
I typically cook with my grandmother's cast iron and use the microwave's clock as a timer. If I'm in a hurry, I fry the bacon but NEVER use the microwave to cook it. When I have time, I preheat the oven to 425, place thick cut bacon on parchment and place a drip pan underneath it.
For a different flavor, I'll mix up brown sugar and a little mustard in a ziploc bag, add bacon and shake it before placing the strips onto the paper in the oven. Next, I'll crumble more brown sugar and maybe add a dash of cinnamon and crushed pecans to the bacon just prior to baking it.
Another thing I like to do is mix up pancake batter and drizzle it over cooked bacon, then pan fry it to perfection. I've included images of this process, but the images aren't mine. Also, I have some recipes for bacon jerky, too. I have experimented a great deal with my excalibur dehydrator lately.

Dead
It's dead when you put it in the fry pan - you don't have to kill it again.
I only fry it.

Splatter Screens...

Works great... Just try to get one that is only as big as the pan you are going to cook in. Down side is you do have to lift them to look at the food.

OK, maybe I should have used a little pink in what turned into a highjack. But, since Sdiver did mention microwave...
I do nuke a couple of strips for a minute or two if I'm going to have bacon wrapped hot dogs for lunch. That way the bacon crisps on the grill but dogs aren't overcooked. And no mess.

I bake @ 250. I like it crisp. I'll do a complete 24oz package and save the unused for samick's during the week..
I also save the lard in a coffee cup in the fridge, as required..
