CW3 Murphy
I recently saw his name on a 1SFG memorial. The last time I saw him, my husband and I were seated at the same table for a Christmas party. No one I've spoken with heard he had died.
If anyone knows of John or can share what happened, we would be grateful.

John
John died back in 2002 of cancer. He was in remission then it came back with a vengence. He re-enlisted a brother of mine prior to his death. He weighed maybe 100-110 lbs when he saw him last.
I did three years on a team with John when he was a Sgt. One of the better commo guys on a 70.

Bill,
Was this the same Murphy who's brother was an Officer in 5th Group?

Yes, it is. Last I saw him he was a 04, that was in 95/6.
John and I were in Sig Co 5th after we got out of the "Q" together.
Took me by surprise when he passed. RIP

Thank you.
I know them both and served with them in 5th Gp.
I was unaware John had passed and haven't seen Kevin in quite awhile.
I knew John as an 18E and his brother Kevin was an ODA Team Leader in B/1/5when I was the Co. SGM.
I remember John had a special rucksack made for his commo gear/et al back in the mid 80's. I saw this monstrosity during the much discussed Ora Grande desert training exercise/hoopla when then LTC. Jacobelly (sp) was the Bn Cmdr and I was the tmsgt of ODA594.
John packed it with so much crap when he fell over (and he did) he couldn't get up...looked like a beetle on its back...I laughed like hell and so did he.
RIP John and my condolences to the Murphy families.

Murph
Murph was one of the best men I ever knew.
His wife, widow, I guess, Denise, lives in NJ and is on Facebook.

Belated, but not forgotten...... God Bless,Rest in Peace Warrior...........
He was just a simple soldier and his ranks are growing thin
But his presence should remind us; we may need his like again,
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY. (author unknown)
The passing of our soldiers often go unnoticed and unsung by most of the world, remembered only by family and friends. Wish it were not so. May he RIP, his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Big Teddy

RIP John....You're not forgotten...
Funny/John story.
When we were in 5th SIGCO together (BOP II), we were always working on commo stuff (go figure), he said, ya know SGT Glebus, it would be a good thing to have our own "commo maint truck"...now were talkin' about a bunch 'o stuff.
I tried explaining to him what it would take, TO&Echanges, were doing stuff that only organizational maint/3d shop can do...stuff we weren't authorized etc, etc....
He sez..well lets change it....oh boy....
Well we tried, but were shot down at the company....John sez, "well, lets slip it by and go to BN"...I sez...John, chill....does our stuff work with us doin' it...."well...ya"....LMAO...
He was great, drove me crazy at times....but a great guy..
again RIP John...
