2011 Special Forces Assn National Convention in Orlando Fl.
SFA general membership meeting voted Orlando Fl. to be the site of the 2011 SFA convention. Convention will start the same day the International Special Operations Conference at SOCOM ends (40 miles away).
The theme for the 2011 convention is to honor the SF wounded and the SF KIA families. The location for the convention will be the Orlando World Center Marriott convention hotel. SFA Chapter 85 will be building a website in the next month for the convention.
The wounded------there are a lot. The families of the KIA's there are also a lot of them. But where are they? It used to be the KIA family had 60 days to get off base or housing, take the kids out of school and go home to grandma. Money--SFA memorial fund gives family $1,000 to help until GI insurance is paid.
They all loose contact with their friends......let us get everybody back togather even just for a week in Orlando. We plan on a "dry run" in Orlando in 2010 for some wounded and KIA families...........if you have anyone in mind that would benefit in either 2010 or 2011 please advise us. We are hoping also that every SFA Chapter will sponsor at least one or more wounded or KIA family.
Nothing will haunt you more as you age then remembering when you asked someone how a deceased friends wife and kids are, and the reply is "how should I know, he was your best friend".
Also, the convention facilities are large enough to handle multiple conventions, so maybe you guys from 1st Group, 8th Group, 6th Group Associations, etc can do a convention on the east coast in Orlando at the same time........hey we will buy the beer, and sponsor some pretty cool events. Also you guys from the old SF companies and SF Detachments, SOG, etc----do a convention at the same time as SFA-----we can give you each a ballroom or meeting room next to or near our hospitality area. I guess it is a given that the 5th, 7th and 10th Groups would not condecend to join us in Orlando, however all of you guys in those groups at one time or another have been in other groups that will be represented in Orlando at the SFA convention.
Also, we will have events for the children all day and in the evening, and even free food for the kids (hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, etc). Our first family friendly event.
