The community was, imo, healthier when no one knew wtf we were about or doing. That included the rest of the Army too.
SEAL's started this crap decades ago and sadly, we have followed suit but not (thankfully) to the extent they have.
Well to be completely fair there was "The Green Berets" by Robin Moore.

Looking back, for that point in time, I can't think of someone else who could've pulled that off, and the film is a quote-fest.
