Happy thought of the day for me..... I'm a DAD!!! First baby, a girl named Aubrey was born this morning at 0536. Both mama and baby are doing well, and you can't wipe this smile off my face!

Congrats, Mack! The first few years take forever, then, once they don't need you as much, they speed by very quickly. Enjoy.

Had a wonderful weekend full of soccer - my son was selected for our state's Olympic Development Program for soccer after 7 hours of tryouts spread over the weekend and got to see several of his favorite soccer players in action at Michigan stadium. I got to take almost all of it in despite being on the tail end of a 340+ hour block of inpatient care and call.

I loved the humble look of relief, sense of accomplishment and the determination to work harder that I saw in his eyes, and loved hearing him call up his all of his coaches to thank them for pushing him to excel and teaching him the beautiful game.

Time to up his PT!

You're raising a fine young man. The fact that he called up his coaches and thanked them speaks volumes about his character.

I wish him all the best in his next level of training.

Our boys are no strangers to the idea that we are preparing a place in the back country for our pleasure and as a place to go if everything goes to hell in a hand-basket. So it was no surprise when I heard the following conversation going on in the back seat of the car:

Kid One to Kid Two: If we have to escape and live in the wilderness, I'll be the brains AND the bronze. You'll be the bronze.

I'm sure they'll be just fine with that guy in charge. <snort>

Here in Israel, I have both witnessed and heard of many occasions of people helping each other, sometimes under circumstances that would trigger fear of an expensive frivolous lawsuit in the US.

Here is one such story:

Stuff like this makes me certain I made the right decision to move here.

Congratulations. She's precious. I'll bet you're already wrapped around her little finger, too.
