Could not agree more, TS!!!!! I read a remark in the Inquirer that Vick was 'broken down'. IIRC, Vick's justification for electrocuting the dogs was that they were 'broken down'. Hmmmm.....
Interesting side note, within a week or two of the announcement that the 'dog killer' was coming to the Eagles, Chase Utley and his wife started putting up ads advocating adoption of Rescue Dogs. BTW, Chase and his wife are avid dog protection advocates.
I will never, ever support the Eagles for that one.

I don't watch football, baseball or basketball, too many convicted felons, high school drop outs, IQ challenged idiots etc getting paid way too much to move a little ball around.

Can't argue with the truth. That pretty much drove me away from the NFL and now college football. Still holding out hope though for the great American pastime - baseball. Still some aspirational and inspirational life lessons there!

hay burners
They are called hay burners for a reason! Way too fuel inefficient to raise for slaughter. A cow will eat a whole lot less then a horse.

Just wait 'til the horse becomes commercialized for meat production. They'll feed 'em antibiotics in their feed and just watch 'em fatten up.

My wife has 5 of them right now. My dad was a wise man-wouldn't let me around horses or motorcycles(boxing and Thai boxing was fine. Go figure). I would like to trade all 5 horses for a couple of good jumping mules, or just a couple more good hunting dogs, but I have lost even veto power over that portion of my life. Damn horses kick, bite, and can be generally intolerable. I also have a veterinarian on speed dial. I'm not too sure how horses survived before men had spoiled wives to take care of them.

My understanding from living amongst the largest Amish population West of the Mississippi is that a big part of the problem has been no outlet for horses who have come to the end of their usefulness. When horses were allowed to be slaughtered there was a market for them. Take away that market and you invite abuse, there are no old horses homes out there.

The 22 most "hopeless" of his dogs went to Best Friends over in Kanab, Utah.
2 of them were required by court order to remain in a shelter.
The others were rehabilitated.
Not sure he's had quite the same success being rehabilitated.
