Occupy Mars

I went on a tour of the SpaceX facility in Southern California as part of a work-related exercise.

Some of us were expecting to get a walk and talk through the various sit-and-work areas. Instead, we ended up inside a James Bond film. We got to peak behind the looking glass where the rockets and rocket engines are built. While we couldn't see most of the 1,000 ksf facility because it was "too dangerous" we did get to stand next to a couple of work areas where we were jokingly told what would happen if something went even slightly wrong.

The team at SpaceX is a diverse workforce consisting of people who clearly understand that they're doing work of global and, perhaps, historic significance. And they get to wear shorts and t-shirts while doing it.

The facility wasn't perfect, though; they serve Pepsi, not Coca Cola. As for the parking....

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

Getting a good start to the water year.
http://www.usbr.gov/uc/water/notice/snowpack.html

We want more snow! (well, not here... upstream!)
Be nice to have the lake fill up some. It's been a bit low.

A trike flyer made a video last June which shows how far down it is.
The white strip above the water (the bathtub ring) is about 100' tall.

Higher water levels mean a bigger lake and less crowding.
Cuz it just gets so crowded! (picture is from a camping trip at Lone Rock Beach last July)

Built my first AR lower last month and finally mated it with the Del-Ton upper yesterday. Put the first rounds through it this afternoon. It went "bang" and not "boom"! First round at 25 yards was 1" left and a half inch low. I'm an M-14 guy so forgot to switch to the smaller aperture peep. This was standing off-hand with sling assist.

Merry Christmas to me!

p.s.: I didn't shoot my eye out!

White Christmas

No longer just dreaming of a "White Christmas" we are living it. For as messed up as this world is, we still have a lot to be thankful for and I am.

Bought several of my guns at convenience stores.

Got a revolver and shotgun from the LOTTO*GUNS*AMMO*BEER gas station in Fredonia, Arizona (see photo).
Took about 15-20 minutes each time (most of that waiting for the FFL guy to show up).

Delivered my AR to a convenience/sporting goods store here in Page, promptly bought it from the store owner/FFL holder, and continued on my route.
Also bought my bolt gun there (Robar SR-60 w/ a unique 34mm tube Leupold VX-3 and a Pelican case -- all for less than $2k ).

God bless Arizona.
Still part of Free America.

Kansas City lost to the Colts ....

The Broncos won in Houston, with Manning surpassing the single season passing record with 51 ....

What would make it an absolutely perfect day is the Ravens beat the Pats ....

Lake full of fish, though I haven't fished since long before moving here.
Fishing laws are different depending on which side of the Utah/Arizona border, but the Utah GF guy publishes info helpful to both sides.

Currently have an extra boat that's not getting much use...
(Not planning on getting rid of the boat)

Adal has handled the bolt gun.
His immediate reaction: "We have to go shoot this!"

Hmmm...I wonder if those were drool marks left on the floor that day...

If you're in the area or planning to come up, let me know (don't have a cell phone, but my email is available in my profile).
My 13 year old would love to meet another QP (drag Adal up here, too!).

Have a nice gun range here in Page (actually, it's like 3 ranges).
I think it was $35 for a year for the whole family (they give you a key to the gate--the range is unmanned).

Made a delivery to an NPS LEO at the Park Service housing and he literally had AR-15s just laying around the house.
Several were in assorted colors (those belonged to his wife).

He used to have a sign above his garage that said: Glen Canyon NRA Armory.
(The delivery I was making was 50 BMG brass)

Made another delivery of 50 BMG brass just across the border (southern Utah is also part of Free America).
He showed me his rig (levels on the scope, etc) and a pie plate full of holes drilled from 1500 meters.

Never mind the natural wonders all around...

I try to tell people what it's like here and few believe me.
I'm here to stay.
