First Dog on vacation
Awww...did someone forget to pack the dog?

Rooms have to be found for dozens of Secret Service agents, someone has to carry a selection of presidential basketballs, and of course the family dog needs his own state-of-the-art aircraft.

I am proud that my furlough savings could be used for such a worthy and noble cause.

Family dog travels with the baggage, props, and help -
My dogs either stay home to be looked after by my nieces who live nearby or travel with me.
And so it goes...

I know that the office comes with certain privileges just due to the complications surrounding security issues when POTUS travels. However, the American public shouldn't have to foot the entire bill, much less a separate bill for his dog...un-f'ing-believable.

You would think they would want the dog to travel with them; is it a family pet or status object?

How do you figure "separate bill for his dog"? The family dog was just manifested on an adjunct a/c that was already committed to carrying equipment, SS agents, other baggage, etc.
And as far as "vacations" for a POTUS go - the POTUS is never really on vacation and comparing administrations over such an issue can be politically counter-productive when fact-checked. For example:

So such vacations are easily justifiable expenses when the public tours of the WH are closed due to 'sequestration'

Heard that his favorite basketballs were left behind and caught the flight with the pooch...

Checked pet fee, within the Americas, $175.
MV-22 blade time, $10,000 per hour.
Government employees each lost 48 hours of work due to furloughs from sequestration and assorted budget woes.
No White House tours for the same reasons.
Should the Commander in Chief be setting this example?
Why doesn't he just vacation at his home in Chicago?
Hmm.

Oh he's been setting examples that future despots will be emulating for centuries.

I hear the theme song from the Jefferson's (Movin' on Up) playing in my head. I keep screaming at myself that I am racist but I never listen to anybody as it is....let alone myself.

And not comparing presidential vacations. Just commenting on the expense of not just Pres. Obama, but all presidential getaways for family vacations, and the added expense of getting them all to point B from point A, and the expense while they are there. Agreed the President is never on vacation, but the expense for getting the POTUS and the family away is astronomical, which was my point. Understood that part of the over-the-top costs are due to the need for a secure location for them to be private, but seems unfair for taxpayers to foot the entire bill.
I went to MV last year, and I would hate to have planned my vacation there this year without having been aware that the POTUS was going to be there. For anyone navigating the island, the inconvenience to everyone on that island when the POTuS might want to step out would be a nightmare.
