I'm done with California... how's Utah?
Well, "why'd you ever go out to California?" is the obvious response. It's quite a fun and exciting place sometimes, at least here in LA. But damn does it have its drawbacks...
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/a...ate-in-america
and I can't wait for the fallout from the Santa Monica shootings.
So, after two years here, there's been a few changes at work that let me know it's a good time to go, so now I'm seriously looking at Utah, but maybe Nevada, Montana, and Idaho. It hinges on the location and where I can find work. I could see doing something more manual.
If anyone has any thoughts about moving out there or knows someone who is hiring, any help is appreciated.

Just an FYI ... Montana is a great place to live, you just can't make a living there.

I've thought about Prescott. I'm from Tucson originally and don't mind AZ at all... just thinking about trying a new place first before settling back there.

It's not looking good for Texas though From the link "During 2011, more than 58,000 people moved from California to the state of Texas."

Another Kalifornian here who's been thinking about Arizona or Nevada for awhile. Regarding employment though I'm going to wait until more jobs are available.

That should take about 3 and a half more years.

Non-native, invasive species will jack-up your ecosystem....just like the snakeheads and those damn canada geese that don't migrate. That's how Colorado went down....

head,
I don't know what you would do or want to do for work, but Idaho is a great place to live in my opinion. I grew up there and plan on retiring there or central Oregon. It has lots of wildlife, forests, deserts, and the people are nice and don't bother you if you don't bother them.
I'm partial to more central Idaho like Idaho City, Chalis, McCall, but I hear northern Idaho is great too. Central Oregon is good and I don't hear many people complain about living in Montana.
Utah is a strange beast. The mountains of the Uintas and Wasatch are well worth exploring and the southern Utah deserts can't be beat. There is a strange atmosphere of the Mormon flavor to the government and laws in my opinion, having lived in SLC for 5 years. I still like to go back and visit to see Moab, Goblin Valley, Zion, Needles, and others. If you were looking at Portland, Oregon I may be able to help in the employment department with a referral. The company I work for likes to hire veterans. I work with dudes from the Army, Marines, Air Force, and Navy.

That article is actually quite eye-opening...I knew I didn't want anything to do with that place, know I know why!
