Guy is shot, falls down the steps, and is shot again in the face. Girl comes to the top of the steps, doesn't see any blood or drag marks, doesn't think its odd boyfriends not answering, and ....proceeds down same steps!?
If this were a horror movie, every democrat in the theatre would be jumping up and down screaming "don't go down the steps bitch"!!!!! from the top of their lungs......
I'm hoping these investigators did a rape-postmortem on both "burglars". I'm willing to bet that both, or at least one were not killed outright.

TS, you are right on the money. Lets play the scenario. You hear glass break, calling 911 would be the first option. If not already armed, you would do so. How about verbally challenging the intruder? Something simple like " Who's there?" or the ol' " Get the f--- out of my house!". Most burglars are property thieves. A home invasion is another animal all together. Ok so this individual/psycho lies in wait for an intruder, then ambushes one, and despite gun shots, and the sounds of a mortally wounded person we are expected to believe the second intruder just waltzes right into his sights. Sounds like he had a plan and followed it to the end without regard to the actual circumstances.
"Serial killers differ in many ways, including their motivations for killing and their behavior at the crime scene. However, attendees did identify certain traits common to some serial murderers, including sensation seeking, a lack of remorse or guilt, impulsivity, the need for control, and predatory behavior."
http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/pu.../serial-murder
The method of his description of what happened added to the manner of his actions appear to fit the above traits.
Hope he burns, slowly.

Actually calling 911 would be the last thing on my mind, even at 64. First I'd arm myself and then I would confront the threat, if the situation allows I'd dial 911 (I'm single) and drop the phone on the floor. Given where I'm standing at the moment I might yell that I am armed, but I don't know how to speak Spanish.
So the guy is in his basement and he has access to firearms. That in itself speaks volumes. Where do you keep readily accessible firearms? I know mine are not in the basement. As a DA I'd check to see if he has firearms down there, a safe etc. If not it might have been a setup.
I have access to a few firearms in my house, a .45 and a .223. I would never give up a .223 and use a .22 (or .45) in any situation if the .223 was working.
I've never heard of someone "downsizing" in a gunfight unless the primary weapon was not working. This guy changed guns (4 times) to kill slowly, deliberately and with pleasure.

Not buying the story, and idiots like this (and claiming the Castle doctrine) are only providing ammunition to the anti-gunners out there.

Time permitting, I would call 911 first. It's been over-litigated here in the Socialist Republic of Chicago. ( "You had time to do xyz, but didn't bother to call 911?"). If the threat is imminent, absolutely defend oneself first. With respect and admiration of your experience, I won't touch the subject of tactics.
I can't speak to where a person chooses to store their firearms or why. Some households may have small children and the homeowner decides not to have them readily accessible. Wherever they may be stored, it certainly is part of the investigation.
"After shooting her with both the Mini 14 and the .22-caliber revolver, he dragged her next to Brady. With her still gasping for air, he fired a shot under her chin "up into the cranium," the complaint says."
The above is nothing but what can only be described as an execution. It is beyond setups, ambushes and the like. I would hazard to guess that he changed weapons to make it more personal or as you say "with pleasure". My feeling is that this guy is a monster that was just waiting for an excuse. Then again, it's quite possible he manufactured the whole story in an attempt to justify these killings. Either way, he deserves the maximum penalty.
Did I mention slowly?

That sounds a little like my comment to the 'ladies' at the 'Siboney' bar in Colon, except it was a 'tigre en mis pantalones' despues de un gato. Verdad.
