On the Bloomberg and Breast is Best story, my post might sound a little bit kooky.

My wife and I support a local agency that provides free periodic medical checkups for infants and toddlers.

Our support has included baby milk powder. When it's heavily discounted, which is quite infrequently in recent years, we try to clear the shelves as best we can. We have seen first hand and have known young parents who are running very tight financially. Very tight. So tight that even when it's on super sale they are counting money to buy 1-2 tins.

And the price of baby milk powder has simply exploded in recent years(like many commodities). From the time our children were born until now we've seen prices double to triple, and it's only been 7 years.

Could commentary such as this be a way to simply avoid what I think is a more genuine question of:

Why is it becoming increasingly harder to afford to feed my infant properly?

Doesn't a stance of "Breast is best" simply allow that more important question to be conveniently avoided?

The readers at Feministe, a blog, are up in arms over Bloomberg's proposal <<LINK>>.

You know you're doing a good job when people across the political spectrum are pissed off at you.

Err...don't go click the link unless you either want to be really pissed off or you've already got a back up key board. Some of the posts/comments on other topics are infuriating and funny. Sometimes at the same time.

I seriously doubt that Bloomberg is a communist. He's much more likely to be a fascist. He is, without doubt, a "nanny-statist"!

Thanks for the link. I'd love to see Bloomberg turned over to a bunch of THOSE women out in the Arizona desert. He'd be wanting a 64 ounce Big Gulp in no time!

World Record

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...rd_649217.html

Pastor Rick Warren reported last night on Twitter that fast food chain Chick-fil-A "set a world record" yesterday. His claim is based off a phone call he had with Dan Cathy, the CEO of Chick-fil-A who ignited a culture war when he expressed his preference for traditional marriage.

@dancathy just called me. #ChickFilA has already set a world record today, with 7 more hrs to go in the West. #OutOfChicken

Chick-fil-A hasn't released sales figures from yesterday, which was supposed to be appreciation day for supporters. But there are many reports of huge lines outside the stores.

I can see a "November to remember" from the line at Chick-fil-A !!

Perhaps, we are finally witnessing a decrease in general apathy for the political elite's never-ending PC BS.

Bloomberg is an idiot.

When I had my daughter, I was guilted into trying to breast feed her by the lactation specialists at the hospital. At first, I like most new monthers, wanted to breast feed, but the kid refused to cooperate. They told me not to worry, even if she wasn't eating is was normal.

So by the time I took her home 2 days later she had lost about .5 pound and I was in hysterics because my child was hungry, but couldn't latch on. I hadn't slept in over 3 days and was just overwhelmed.

Luckily my mom was there, and she is an RN. She finally couldn't take it anymore, came in a got the kid, told me to go to go the f*ck to sleep and she was giving the baby a bottle.

As it turned out, the kid had an abnormally large tongue for a baby her size, and needed a longer nipple to hold her tongue down so she could suckle. From that day on she was a bottle baby, which was a godsend in retrospect. As a single mom, it was really helpful that while I was on maternity leave at my parents house they could help out with the feedings.

I am sure there are cases out there of mom's who don't know best. And who don't take care of their children, but hiding formulas from them isn't going to make them a better mom. Also having gone through the whole feelings of guilt thrust upon me by the medical community and other mothers that I was not taking care of my child appropriately, caused my daughter unnecessary discomfort for the first 3 days of her life.

The city shells out quite a bit in entitlements, the federal and state block grants don't quite cover it all; long term debt[1][2], and the fact that there won't be any windfall settlements from SAIC's time and attendance boondoggle to bridge the budget gap[3] next year means there will come a point where hole will be too wide to gap without tax increases, specifically property taxes. That will send more young, productive professionals to the hills, and the nanny state will go down in a spectacular fiscal failure.
