I am sorry, but my Libertarian streak tells me that the government should not be in the business of telling me what is good for me or what I cannot do.

Fits right in with the First Lady's agenda of calling the food police on me because I use butter or salt.

While we're at it, let's make everyone drive little electric cars (or ride bicycles), stop polluting with those terrible charcoal barbecues, stop driving vehicles unless you're carpooling, be vegetarians, use fluorescent bulbs, put solar panels on your roof and a windmill in your backyard if you want power . . . should I go on?

I'm sorry, but this is a really terrible idea and I am tired of the government forcing everyone to do what the liberal elites think would be good for us.

Trashy People will be trashy people

Trashy People will be trashy people no matter what laws are passed.

I live in a fairly nice neighborhood but when I go for my morning walk I find numbers of beer bottles/cans, sports drink containers and whole boxes of fast food meals just chucked out windows.

Hey, the Good Idea Fairy just hit me. To solve the problem why don't we just ban all fast food and take outs. Want to eat? Shut off the gas hog, come inside and sit down - and don't dare ask for a doggie bag.

Penn this isn't about trash bags it's about advocating that the "government" should be given the authority to make "our" decisions/choices for us.

MOO, the environmentalists, urbanists, brown-fielders, smart builders, and other "socially conscious" groups could get a lot of more traction if they pursued campaigns centered around respectful persuasion rather than heavy-handed legislation. I think they'd rather get credit for being "right" than for getting things done.

The arrogance drips from your post.

I am somewhat dismayed at the self righteousness you displayed in that post.

Additionally, I would think, with your having been here for so long, that you would understand why you received the previous reaction(s) to your initial post.

As others have said, we are tired of the government telling us whats best for us.

How did Walmart let this pass? Aren't plastic bags part of their security measures as a form of proof that one checked out? (isn't that what a reciept if for?) Cashiers have a fit when I tell them I don't need a bag: "it's store policy"!

Like other military families, we do the majority of our grocery shopping at the commissary. At least twice a month we come home with over 15 bags of groceries...paperbags, that my wife then reuses in her classroom. If we switched to those "other" bags, I can see it easily taking 20 to 25. I also don't see any of the stores lowering their prices because now they don't have to buy plastic bags and pass the cost on to the consumer.

baloney. . . abortion doctors . . job programs and "what will we do when cotton and wool hit $5 at the pumps?"
Baby cows, two dead guys and a shrimp, FLOTUS, hypocrits and congress-critters. . . unionists, the people of Walmart and finally "arrogance".
Dang, glad I read all the posts. Cuz I almost chimed in with a "you go, girl." (Actually I was about to post "Gun Up!")
But not now, "I got my mind right, boss".

Why would it take more of the "other" bags?
