The conference was a good time - anytime I can get travel expenses paid weekday trip plus a check just for talking for 15 minutes is not bad. The open bar during the evening session was my favorite part.

I was hoping for a Canucks/Lightning final (I'm a big fan of Yzerman) - I'm now pulling for Vancouver, as it's been too long since a Canadian team has won the cup.

Interesting story ...............

Senior Living Ministries

"One of my young colleagues was officiating at the funeral of a war veteran. The dead man's military friends wished to have a part in the service at the funeral home, so they requested the pastor to lead them down to the casket, stand with them for a solemn moment of remembrance, and then lead them out through the side door.

"This he proceeded to do, but unfortunately the effect was somewhat marred when he picked the wrong door. The result was that they marched with military precision into a broom closet, in full view of the mourners, and had to beat a hasty retreat covered with confusion..................

"This true story illustrates a cardinal rule or two. First, if you're going to lead, make sure you know where you're going. Second, if you're going to follow, make sure that you are following someone who knows what he is doing!".........

My Daughter

Today, my daughter (3 years old) asked me for the first time about my old uniforms and gear from my days in the Marine Corps. I explained that I was once a Marine and that it was my job to go around the world and make bad guys go away. She sat and thought about this for quite a while and then she looked at me with impossibly knowing eyes and said in a very rare serious tone "Thank you Daddy, thank you so much" followed by a great big hug and kiss. As a man, I must admit that I got a little misty eyed over this. This is my happy thought of the day.

Yesterday, my son enlisted in the Army as a 35P.
He's taking the DLAB today to determine his language.

Jump Street

Yesterday my son started Jump School. He sent me a text message saying that a cadet was late and the Black Hat asked him, " Cadet, is your head so far up your 4th point of contact that it is to dark to read the damn training schedule?" 27 years later, I am glad to know that some things in the Army are still the same.

Feet and knees together!

I've missed this place! Moved over the Memorial Day weekend and after many angry calls...with enough swearing to make a Marine blush ... finally have internet service at home again. Damned websense prohibited access here during the day.

AT&T and Comcast both suck. Just in case you were wondering.

Thanks, oh I'm nothing if not efficient...was unpacked and pics hung within 2 days. Except for the exposed brick wall, had to wait for my brother to drive up with the drill.

Finishing loading for the yearly trip into the Colorado rockies.
Should be passing through Utah Bob's neck of the woods in the early morning.

Private land up near Lone Cone, comfy RV, excess beer and ammo.
Life is good.

Colorado did not disappoint.

The weather was nice Wed through Friday.
Moon rise over the rockies and the nighttime glow were spectacular.

Played with the newly acquired rifle on Saturday.
It was hot, sunny, and windy; ran the A/C much of the day when in the RV.

Rained quite a bit on Sunday.
By the middle of the night it was in the low 30s and snowing...

The rifle and scope did not disappoint.

Took a risk buying a used setup.
It shot 1.5" groups @ 200 yds...with Walmart ball ammo.

The previous owner was nice enough to leave me the tuned hand load data.
Time to do some hand loading.
