That should not offend anyone. What was that quote about eternal vigilance and the price of freedom... The security screening has not been extensive enough, especially on the enlisted side. If another hasan incident occured and traced back to the MAVNI program, I wouldn't be surprised. The program started in '08/'09 time frame. I thought it would be another Lodge Act. IMHOO, the product has been a mixed bag. The MAVNIs reputation is not so good at Bragg as I previously feared. Too many jumped in with both feet without counting the cost. The dangling carrot of citizenship in less than a year was just too attractive, so they dropped out of college, quit jobs etc. and joined the army. Now that citizenship is at hand, they can't wait to get out. Stay vigilant indeed.
One the other hand, some have been motivated and very promising. Several have passed selection and are currently in the pipeline. One of them, a Nepalese, told me his unit "suggested" he should be SF and off he went. No months of prep, nothing. He was selected and said "it wasn't bad." Tough stud, must have the gurkha gene!

Foresight - sounds as if the Nepalese are looking to get 'trained leaders' for future plans regarding their Chinese ' landlords.'

Why does the process begin in basic training as opposed to AIT? At least then the applicant would be a qualified soldier prior to getting the "bonus." Other bonuses such as enlistment bonus, MGIB, etc. aren't able to be used until after training is completed, so why is this any different?
What happens if the future soldier doesn't make it through basic? Do they automatically get sent to the back of the line, or continue with the process since the dollars have already been invested? What about those who don't fulfill their commitment but were granted citizenship?
