Physician for the TXNG SF unit?

Hello all:

I'm a bit unsure of how the medical organization for the SF Groups (especially the NG ones) are set-up. My understanding is that battalion surgeon is the lowest level that you have a billet for a physician at and that Texas is home to C Company of 5th Battalion.

So then can the battalion surgeon be in any one of the states housing 5th Battalion's Companies (including Texas)? Or are the battalion surgeons all housed at the HQ in Utah?

Either way, is there a Texas NG physician providing medical coverage for the Texas unit? Is there a way to get his contact information?

Thank you,

DC

I don't know exactly how this works but there a few Docs and PAs who affiliated with our TX SF units although the unit sturcture in Texas doesn't directly provide for those positions. The BN Surgeon position for 5th BN 19th SFG is in Colorado, which is filled currently. But we have an MD from Texas who is associated with us as "the Battalion Surgeon" but who actually works for MedCom. It is complicated and I don't fully understand it but I know some people you can chat with who may be able to answer your questions better. Email me at the following address and we can chat off-line.

I'm currently a medical student in Texas with a National Guard obligation after I become a physician. While it is a few years off, I'm trying to find out whether there is a billet in the TXNG SF unit for a physician. If so, I'm hoping to get into contact with the physician currently in the billet so I can learn a little more about the reality of filling that role and what I can do in the next few years to be best prepared to provide medical care for QPs.

As a Med Student wanting to get into the Community - you should first graduate Med School, then Residency (preferably in Emergency Medicine or Ortho), and perhaps then apply to take care of the Team guys. They are, for all intents and purposes, professional athletes who compete with their minds bodies and things that go boom to various degree.
While an admirable goal, you have a long way to go before you can be the best qualified to take care of the operational aspect of this particular community.

Good luck...
