SORB Outbrief
Gentlemen,
This is a link I found on-line for all of us prospective candidates. It talks a little about packing lists; the "three gates" while going through selection, information on travel, reporting procedures, uniform regulations & final azimuth checks prior to entering SFAS. There is a lot of information that has been beat in to the ground already on this site, in this slideshow, but there is also a few things I found that are new, & interesting. Hope this helps some of the people considering selections.

It's dated 6APRIL2009 so depending on how long this thread stays active, it is subject to change. I'm sure the URL will change & this link will no longer be active in a while, but if you search through the Fort Bragg/SF site , I'm sure you will find another power point show with the same great information.

I have a small question. On slide sixteen, it says that "Soldiers must pass the APFT with a minimum score of 240 in their age group...". Is this a change that has been made? I seem to recall the requirements being a minimum of 240 in the 17-21 category for all candidates?

According to the SORB website, the actual requirements for applicants already in the army is:
Must score a minimum of 229 points on the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT), with no less than 60 points on any event, using the standards for age group 17-21.
http://www.bragg.army.mil/sorb/SORB_..._CRITERIA.html
For 18x candidates, the numbers may be a bit different. http://www.goarmy.com/special_forces...d_benefits.jsp says that you only need a 229 without age group specifications. Although, a less reliable source from http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjobs/a/18x_2.htm says that it is in the 17-21 age group.
Either way, from reading nearly every post on the forum relating to the PT test and talking with QPs and other candidates, you should be shooting for the 300 everytime ( http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/...read.php?t=991 ). Don't worry about what the minimum score is; you shouldn't be aiming for something that low. Also, your profile says that you are a college student. If you are of traditional age, shouldn't you be in the 17-21 year old age group anyway?
According to an earlier thread posted about the statistics on passing selection with age groups, ruck times, and PT scores, those with lower PT scores simply have a harder time passing selection.
I hope that this at least clears up some of your questions. I am sure that a more qualified person to answer this question will post shortly.
Now back to PT (at least letting my body regen right now).

I am aiming for a 300. My own personal goal is 105 push-ups, 105 sit-ups, and 12:45 2mile . I will be 23 by the time I take the APFT. I was not necessarily wondering about the minimums required but more about changes in requirements and discrepancies in sources.
Thank you for clearing up the confusion, and good luck with selection and the Q!

I would worry less about the scale, and more about getting the very best score that I possibly could.
I will tell you that if you review the info I have previously posted, the odds of anyone making it who is scoring below a 260 (with strict grading) are pretty low.
Focus on getting yourself in shape with your personal best, and let the consequences follow.

As a SF Guy and a SORB Recruiter I can tell you this.
275 Average on the SFAS APFT gets you about a 80% Selection rate.
4mile 55lbs Ruck/Run under 54min about 80% Selection rate.
240 in your age group is what they are using at SFAS, the 229 is still there on the SORB Site becuase it takes time to change the policies. Unfortunately SORB still falls under USAREC and let me tell you the USAREC machine does not move fast.
