Concur.

I think too many people are looking for someone to spoon feed them today, and call it mentoring.

I believe that I got mentoring from the VN era guys (though it wasn't called that back then), and sometimes it was fun, and sometimes, it was not. Mentoring can take a lot of forms, and sometimes, it just feels like a good, ole-fashioned, ass-whoopin'. I was blessed with some great Team Sergeants, SGMs, CSMs, and COs when I was coming up.

If the complaint is that there are TSs without tactical and technical proficiency, then I suspect that we have allowed QC to slide to produce more numbers, and that we have both promoted people who perhaps were not ready, as well as not leaving TSs in those slots long enough to adequately learn their jobs. Twenty-four months does not a TS make.

Fleeing for an SMU will only fulfill the "grass is always greener" fantasy, and I have my suspicions that with the heavy influx of Rangers these days, life probably ain't all a bowl of cherries there either.

As for our young Taylor, if he posts again without doing as he has been instructed, he will no longer be posting here at all. I personally have a low tolerance for people who are supposed to be professionals who cannot be bothered with following simple instructions and who think that rules are for the other guys. I hope that he does as requested and finds what he is looking for here.

mentors

SF has changed and is always evolving. Tactics and doctrine evolve. I would rather have a sesoned team guy who has a few trips down range than a full team of studs that are newbies. Mentoring on a SF team is you are either given a task or seek initiative to accomplish a task not given and you get it done. This is not the regular army where you are getting spoon feed. You find the information to teach a class on your own you do not have time for a (mentor) to show you should wipe this way and then flush. Just like all organizations people do slip through the cracks and a cleansing or genocide of weak genes must commence. An example, of mentoring and cleansing. Part of my first team seargants improcessing was a PT test. If you scored a 270 or above you got to where team PT's if not you wore what big army issued you until you met the standard. A type of mentoring that set the example for the team. Had a newbie fail two PT test and my team daddy put him out of the army he did not kick him around from team to team he got rid of his ass. Also you had to do a war tour, a year on the team, and Ranger school to get your E-6. When I am king of the world (team daddy) I will follow his example. He did not tell you when, where, what you had to do PT on you just knew the end result that must be accomplished. Thats SF mentoring. You are looking for a senior or team daddy to hand you a class on power point slide, the senior or team daddy then teach you the class, and then the cherry if you will watches a senior or team daddy teach it to the team or indig you joined the wrong organization. That is regular army mentoring, SF is team daddy says yeah FNG you are teaching this to them at this time and you make it happen.

Mentoring

Hey Pickle, As a team Sgt I did have a member removed from the community . There are many reasons that may happen but my reasoning was based in the overall person. Just slacker who was trying his best, but didn't have a full rucksack.

I like, Reaper was mentored by old VN vets and it was great. I always felt like I wasn't cutting the muster. I was and became someone that younger guys want to be. So in that, I was able to give what I got.

It is troubling that teams don't have the old timers to mentor. Blitz
