Smile Why I want to join the Army

Edited to add: I've been around the site for quite some time now, just finally decided to make an account.

Well, since the objective of this introduction thread is for you Quiet Professionals, and others to get to know me, so, I'll tell yall my motives, and a little background information.

Why I want to join the Army: Well, for starters, I want to serve int he most powerful Army on Earth, and that would be the United States Army. I have quite a few friends who're currently serving, Rangers, legs, airborne, etc. And I wish to join their ranks.

Currently I'm having difficulty finalizing my thought of MOS I want. My first goal in the Army is achieving Airborne (if permitted, I'll get to that in just a little bit). And from their, Ranger, and from there, maybe, someday progressing into SF.

Two years ago I used to weigh 368.2lbs, at 6'3''. Now I weigh 291lbs, due to little to no physical activity from a shoulder injury, (which is healing quite nicely, tomorrow, I can restart my PT). but aht asided, my ultimate goal is joining amongst the ranks of the Army, as to what MOS to start out with, I'm unsure of it yet. I can't go into Special Forces for another two years, (I don't turn 20 until 2010).

But now, reason to explain why I'm unaware of airborne, is because of my vision, my BMI is 27% currently, (I'm pretty bulky from Power Lifting etc, although, due to my shoulder, I havn't been able to do any power lifting for over 2-3 weeks now). I don't have to worry about weight all that much for enlistment, I've got about a year and a half before I can enlist. And if I can drop over 80lbs in 2 years, I could possibly drop to 240lbs before enlisting, 240lbs according to simulations, would put me at 15% BMI.

But vision is the big deal, I have bad eye sight, my vision quals me for general enlistment, but I don't know if it'll qualify me for Airborne, or an Option 40 contract.

But even if I'm forever locked in leg land, I'll be one of the best legs in the Army. Either way, whether what I'm able to get into etc. I plan to be the best in the job I get into. And any help/advice on how I could become better, and/or more physically fit and/or any advice on some non-SOF MOSs would be nice, jobs I'm looking into are: 21B, 11X, 13F, and 19D. I've looked at advanced schools etc. that each can go into. But I'm stuck which one to go for.

Later on in career, I plan on hopefully going into SFAS, and later the "Q" course. (hopefully) if not, I'll be the best leg in my unit, I'll make sure of it.

Background info:
-I was born and raised in Washington.
-I have one brother
-I have two dogs
-I have average-above average grades in school.
-I love reading military stuff, as much information I can soak my brain with. FMs, TAs, etc. I read 'em all, some are out of date though, but I try to get hold of as much current/semi-current info as I can.
-I have a high interest in SpecOps, such as: PSYOPS, EOD, CA, SF, Rangers, 160th SOAR, and Airborne ( by technicality, the 82nd for some reason is considered Special Operations... IDK why...)
-I love history, Military, American, World, everything, I feel that knowing the mistakes made in the past, will prevent you from making them in the future, because historically speaking, history in some shape/form always repeats itself. For example, Napolean, he marched his Army into Russia, and was slaughtered by the bitter cold Russian winter, about a hundred years later, Nazi soldiers suffer the same fate, and lose all momentum/sustain heavy losses in a counter attack mounted by the Red Army, and got driven back... In some way, shape, or form, history always repeats itself, and so, I believe if you learn what someone else fracked up on, you know not to frack up the same way. Or you end up suffering the same fate.
I also enjoy video games. Military preferably.
I love women.
And if there is any other information you would like to know about me, than feel free to just ask. I take no questions offensive, or anything like that.

My Intro

Ok, here is my intro per the required regulation of this site.
I joined the Army back in Sept of 2002, originally I was supposed to be an 18X but due to a FEMALE guidance counselor who told me the chances of me making it to the Q-course were slim to none, I opted for an 11X contract with duty station of choice (Ft. Campbell) Deployed to OIF I with A Co, 3-187 INF Regt, spent some time in TRADOC at Ft. Benning and was "selected" to be a detailed recruiter. I love the Army, but hate being a recruiter, so instead of being like 95 % of the detailed recruiters out here that bitch about the job, but dont do anything I have started my Green to Gold packet that will get me out of recruiting a year and a half early. I have always had a fondness for the SF community and have always enjoyed any training I was lucky enough to receive from them throughout my years in the Army. I made it up the enlisted ranks relatively fast for a leg with no ranger tab (SSG pinned at 4 yrs) and will be the first to tell you im no great leader, but I am fair and I get the mission accomplished. I am the type of Soldier who would rather spend 15 years as an 18A then to be a major in any other branch. I hope to learn a lot from this website and hopefully educate a few people on here.

Introduction

Gentlemen,

First and foremost, I want to thank those that have made this site available. The knowledge gained from this site is substantially greater than any other resource I have come across.

As per introductions, my name is Matt. I am a 21 year old junior at the United States Military Academy. I will receive my commission in the Infantry in May 2009. Aspirations to become an 18A have brought me to this site in order to prepare for the future.

Happy Holidays to all.

Respectfully,

Matt

RAFA09,

Go talk to Spies (DPME - IW track), he can probably fill you in / clue you in real quick. Tell him his Asian SF brethren from the 2006 COIN Conference says "Hi".

BTW - Did not know that you all branched so early From what I hear, IN is not exactly an available choice for the goat LOL

Greetings everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen that served with the U.S. Army. I was stationed in Baumholder, Germany with 1/6th Infantry. I now live in Colorado and work as a security guard at a large hotel. I have been considering joining the 5/19th here in Colorado for sometime and have now started to prep myself for this major change in my life. I am coming off a broken ankle, so I want to get back into top physical form before talking to a recruiter. I have read a lot of the posts on this site and will continue to read all that I can. I thank all of those that have posted helpful information here and I hope to be able to return the favor one day as well.

Hello all!
Here's my introduction...prior service 12B1P, with C/27 EN BN at Bragg (93-96)..since then, college, travels, and now serving as a full time Firefighter/EMT with the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue (5 years). But that ole' itch is coming back, you know, the one that says 'you wanted to do it then, why not now?' So this past summer I did some research, made some calls, and now I am getting ready for NG SF (19th) up in Utah. For now, lots of PT. But I am very excited and motivated that this opportunity is now upon me, and I am looking at signing papers in January/February.

This forum is outstanding with all the available information. Thank you, QP's, for your time and contributions. I'll be researching this site for a good time to come.

HOO-AH!

Cast or Tab...

Introduction

Seasons Greetings Everyone,

Here goes with my intro. My name is Wes and I am a Firefighter/EMT with the Cincinnati Fire Dept (9 years). I've served a total of 9 years between the RA and the ARNG. Did 2 years with the OPFOR at Hohenfels, Germany, then 4 with a Cav unit (OH ARNG), and 3 with a light Infantry unit (IN ARNG). I am currently going through the whole re-enlistment process to get into the training team with B. Co. 2/19th SFG. For some reason I just can't seem to shake the itch to take a shot at SF before I start collecting Social Security! Just don't want to be sitting on my porch in a rocking chair with my grandson on my knee thinking "if only I had given it a try"!

Wanted to thank all those Quiet Professionals out there who have made this site possible. Without a doubt it is the best source of intel on SF I have ever seen.

Stay Safe Everybody!

Intro

First--Thanks for this great website. I've held off posting anything for a while now, I've just been searching and reading everything I can get!

Now a little about me--
I did 6 years enlisted in the AF from 00'-06' I did my whole time at Hurlburt Field in good ole' Florida. It was great because as I'm sure most of you know Hurlburt Field is AFSOC. Anyways I worked on the MH-53M/J helocopter and I got to do and see some really cool stuff that most AF will never even know about!

Since finishing my enlistment I've finally had the opportunity to hit the books hard and finish my degree. Now that I'm finished my degree I'm in the middle of paper work to go the officer route in the Army. I'm hoping I can get or trade for Infantry Officer and eventually have the opportunity to obtain SF. I'm really excited to be an Officer in the Army and I can't wait to get started!

Anyone with any advice or words of wisdom please feel free to PM me as I'm open to all opinions and anything anyone has to say.

-Jason

Introduction

Hello everyone,

Not much experience in the Army, I just recently joined the USAR (21B) while finishing up college. I am looking foward to going active after finishing my schooling. I am currently in my last semester of classes in pharmacy school. I enjoy searching through the information here, and I hope to contribute where I can now, and contribute more in the future, as my experience increases.

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone,

I really enjoy this site.

I am prior military having started out in the 82nd ABN as an 11C were I stayed until I reached SGT. My next assignment was 2 ID in Korea were I reenlisted as an 11B. I then returned to the 82nd ABN were I made SSG and was finally accepted to the Q course. Spent 6 years with C/3/10 SFG as an 18B, made SFC and was shipped to SOCOM to work SFAS were I remained for about a year before leaving to become a civilian due to some family issues.

I started my 10th Group time on ODA 092 and was lucky enough to be there when we went HALO. We then became ODA 093. While there I attained HALO status as well becoming a sniper under the training and expertise of SFC Tom Capp.

After becoming a civilian I missed the rush so bad that I became an EMT with a local Rescue Squad. I am now also a member of the Townships Dive Rescue Team.

I look forward to reading and sharing idea's and info with fellow Quiet Professionals.
