One year in jail, or three years working full-time in a VA hospital.
How the Hell do you serve in VN honorably, and get discharged as a Private? Sounds like he was UCMJed on his way out.
Scumbag.

Louis Lowell McGuinn scumbag SF fake
This deserves a special place that all can see what a poser looks like. Scumbag.
Vet medals tarnished in phoney hero scam - feds
BY THOMAS ZAMBITO
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Tuesday, May 1st 2007, 4:00 AM
Louis Lowell McGuinn called himself lieutenant colonel and wore fake medals, FBI says.
Louis Lowell McGuinn was a regular at military galas around town, posing with a gleaming chest full of medals that symbolized a life of valor.
But another vet noticed in December that McGuinn seemed to be wearing the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and the Distinguished Service Cross incorrectly - and a 40-year lie started to unravel, prosecutors said.
Yesterday, Manhattan federal prosecutors used a brand new law to charge McGuinn with posing as a war hero - making the Flushing, Queens, man one of the first in the New York region to face prosecution under the Stolen Valor Act.
The law, which took effect in January, makes it a felony to falsely claim to have received an award authorized for members of the U.S. armed forces.
He faces a year in jail.
McGuinn, also known as Lowell Craig McGuinn, served in Vietnam and was a private when he was discharged from the Army in 1968.
But over the years he bumped himself up to lieutenant colonel to help him win lucrative security consulting contracts, prosecutors say.
The feds have photos of McGuinn, 62, at military events at the Pierre Hotel and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, L.I.
In December, McGuinn leased space at the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines Club in midtown, where the club's executive director noticed McGuinn "wore decorations on his uniform in the incorrect manner and, when asked, could not produce any documentation verifying his service or medals," according to a criminal complaint filed by FBI Special Agent Jason Randazzo.
In December, Randazzo said McGuinn told a New York City police officer he was a lieutenant colonel working with the Department of Homeland Security. He told executives at an underwater marine security company that he served with the Special Forces, the feds say.
He was released on $5,000 bond after a brief court hearing.

Since he was a private, are we also going with the SF patch being phony?

Faces federal charges for posing as war hero
"They're always [Navy] SEALs or Special Forces," said Kimey. "Nobody ever masquerades as a cook."
LOLOL, how true......
Vet: More like Special Farce
Faces federal charges for posing as war hero
BY THOMAS ZAMBITO

Louis Lowell McGuinn and his fake batch of medals get exposed.
When masquerader Louis Lowell McGuinn showed up at a military ball wearing a rack of Army ribbons, real vet Mark Kimey knew something wasn't right.
Maybe it was the sappy salute McGuinn clipped off while posing with a group of Tuskegee Airmen, said Kimey, the retired Army lieutenant colonel and West Point graduate who outed McGuinn.
Or maybe it was McGuinn's boast that he'd served in the Special Forces.
"They're always [Navy] SEALs or Special Forces," said Kimey. "Nobody ever masquerades as a cook."
Kimey sent a photo of McGuinn at the event at the Hotel Pierre on Fifth Ave. in October and forwarded it to Special Forces headquarters.
It set off a chain of events that led to McGuinn's arrest Monday on federal charges of posing as a war hero.
McGuinn, 62, of Queens, became the first person in the nation to be prosecuted under the Stolen Valor Act, a four-month-old law that exposes fakers to a year in prison.
The photo made it to Doug Sterner, a military historian in Colorado, who checked his database of medal winners.
McGuinn wasn't among the recipients of the Purple Heart, the Silver Star or the Distinguished Service Cross - some of the many awards that graced his chest, Sterner said.
McGuinn, who also went by Lowell Craig McGuinn, had been discharged as an Army private in 1968 after serving in Vietnam but claimed to have achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel, Manhattan federal prosecutors say.

Or he could have just been proud of who and what he was and been truthful.

I made PFC on graduation day from the Q Course- along with about 2/3s of the class. Highest rank in the picture IIRC was 2 SSGs. No Officers.
Pete
I tried to scan the graduation picture one time (an 8x10) and it about choked my scanner. File's too big to do anything with. Taken Nov 1974 in front of Bronze Bruce when he was by the White House.
