I am a 25 year old naturalized US citizen that is seeking a commission in the US Army. I am very interested by the work and discipline of SF soldiers and have come to this site to learn as much about your work as possible. I speak French and German fluently, am learning Russian and Arabic (the latter extremely slowly), and have dabbled in latin and ancient greek. I also speak Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Indon conversationally.

Hello All!

Im a 29yr old male in South Texas and I have been giving serious thought about going SF through the guard (there is a NG group out of Camp Bullis). I have been absorbing as much information on this forum for quite some time and I thank the mods for providing such a valuable resource. I have been able to answer many questions utilizing the search function on the forum which is ofcourse extremely helpful.

I am married with a son and a daughter on the way and the wife is still on the fence about me joining, but I know she will ultimately support the decision to join. I have read most books about ARMY SF, specifically about the process it takes and appreciate the "Cast or Tab" mentality. Ofcourse this is my first post after being on the forum for a few years and I look forward towards the journey!

Hi all,

I am 20 years old and a former college student with 2 years completed. During this period of time I decided school was not the best option for me at the moment due to various reasons and decided to go SF (which I have been considering since before enrolling in college). I am waiting for a response from a med read in the next week or so where I will then most likely need a medical waiver. In great physical condition at the moment with optimal scores, just need to wait a couple months for that waiver before I can get my contract.

Midwest's Intro

Hello, I am a 25 y/o from the state of Kansas. I have a wife and daughter. I spent 3 years on active duty (Army) from 2009-2012 and have been a civilian for the last 3 years. Afte r much consideration and countless hours of soul searching I made the decision to reenlist and go through the 18X pipeline. The military is the only place that feels like home. I am here searching for questions I won't find the answers to searching the forums and would appreciate any QP with the time to pm me.

Hello everyone. I'm 22 and I've been wanting to pursue the 18X contract since I found out about it my senior year of high school. After a couple years of working and going to community college I decided it was time to make a choice whether I was going to commit to the career I really wanted or keep stagnating. I decided about a year and a half ago that this was worth devoting all of my time to prepare for and I lost a bunch of weight and got in shape over that time, checking in with my local Army recruiter once every couple months until I felt I was ready to enlist. I enlisted at the end of October with an 18X contract and I look forward to the months and years to come.

Hello all. I'm a 26 year old Marine Corps veteran from NC. I spent 4 years on active duty in the Marines from 2007 to 2011. After a 4 year break in service I have signed an 18x contract for the Army. I leave soon and am excited for this new chapter for my family.

Introduction

My name is SFC Doughty and I have recently transferred here to the Colorado Army National Guard. Prior to this I was the recruiter for 2/19th SFG(A) in West Virginia. I am just trying to reach out and build my network here in my newly assigned area.

Thank You,
Chad

wahoo 11-11-2015 08:18

I missed the intro area. I'm prior service with 2 contracts completed 7years 3mo active duty (stop lossed 485 days first term) 2 years 7mo inactive between contracts.

I'm on terminal leave until December 9th and enrolled in college.

I attended SFAS in 08 and tried to go back in 13 on my second term, was unable to attend. Had a SF packet completed but had to cancel and do ncoes school instead, then deployment.

Introduction

Hello all,

It has been awhile since I have been on the forum so I am going to go ahead and post another introduction. I have served as a PL (since 2012) in the "Big Army", as well as the 75th RR. I've completed a few military schools and participated in some great training over the years. I have always admired those in the SF community and I appreciate the sometimes heated rivalry. I am a big believer in different strokes for different folks within the greater SOF community; every section brings something key to the fight. Nothing but the utmost respect for anyone willing to put on the uniform and take on the challenges that come with that decision.

I am just looking to pick up some knowledge for my bag of tricks and to keep growing and developing as a leader and person. Maybe I can reciprocate the same for some of you; tabbed or untabbed.

Original Posts Deleted- reintroduction

I joined this forum in 2011, but I see that my earlier posts are no longer here; I just want to make a quick update so that you can know a little about whom you are talking to.
I know that my bio states that I was planning to enter the 18x program; I spoke too hastily. By the time the dust settled, I signed and swore-in for 35P (Cryptologic Linguist); this was the culmination of nearly 12 months’ work with my recruiter. 5 days prior to my ship-off date for basic, I received a call from the recruiting office telling me that the student loan repayment I had been promised in my contract “fell through” and that I needed to come in for a “contract renegotiation” with no student loan repayment. Needless to say, I was disappointed and I have my suspicions that the loan repayment was never something that they were in a position to give me, but merely dangled until the zero-hour. Anyhow, because they broke the contract, I was released and told I could sign without the student loan repayment or I could walk away- which I opted to do. Se la vie.
I now work as the Director of Clinical Operations for a pharmaceutical research company based out of Ohio. I still have close ties to Hawaii, the Pacific NorthWest and Colorado; I visit these places often. I continue to visit this forum and I am extraordinarily appreciative of the information that these professionals have offered.

Hello world

Hi, my name is Daniel Guerrieri. I am a 23yr old college student in Tampa, about to move up to Charlotte. My family all comes from either a medical or military background, and I want to try and do both as an 18D. I'll be joining ROTC in my junior year when I start at UNC Charlotte. I was trying to enlist as a REP63 earlier this year but decided to hold off due to the move. Thank you all.

Very grateful for all of the helpful information available here, and looking forward to learning more.

johndoe1990 11-25-2015 17:15

Currently serving as an infantryman attached to a cav unit tasked with long range reconaissance in a NY ARNG unit in western NY. I've always admired the Army Special Forces and read every book I could get my hands on regarding the community. Although I'm just your typical grunt I try to hold myself to the physical and intellectual standards that the Special Forces community adheres to. As of late I've started to consider trying to go to selection via the 19th/20th group route although I need remediation regarding some fundamental soldiering skills before I would even feel remotely qualified to attend a drill weekend with the aforementioned units. For now, I joined the forum as a tool to get in better shape and to hone my fundamental skills in an effort to be a better soldier.

Indiana Introduction

Hello all,

My name is Steve and I am 26. I currently work as a corrections officer in southern Indiana for IDOC. I am originally from the east coast (Philadelphia suburbs) and moved to Kentuckiana roughly a year ago. I have recently just started discussing 18X contract options with a recruiter for the A/2/20 that recently moved to Indiana. I have a B.A. in History from Messiah College and was a member of the lacrosse team for 4 years. I grew up in the city, spent my summers at the beach, and now live in the country. I hope that my experience and background will be useful as an 18X candidate.

If anyone is from the A/2/20, likes Philadelphia sports teams, or has any other questions... please feel free to pm me.

“there is nothing outside of yourself that can ever enable you to get better, stronger, richer, quicker, or smarter. Everything is within. Everything exists. Seek nothing outside of yourself.” -Miyamoto Musashi

*EDIT... Going 11B and making it to selection via the Special Forces Readiness Assessment

Mjones43 11-30-2015 11:24

Hi, I'm a 33 year old prior service Marine looking into SF, most likely with a NG unit in MD. I was a communicator in the Corps, so the 18E MOS appeals to me, but there's also the draw of 18B (Marines like their guns). I know cross-training is big so it couldn't hurt to have experience in both fields.

This is a great website with more info than I ever hoped to find, so I want to say thank you for that! Between this site, my copy of Get Selected, and the Army websites I've got more than enough to keep me occupied and come up with a workup plan.

Good day Quiet Professionals & all other members!

My name is Derek, and I'm 31yrs old. Some might say that I'm too old, but to hell with that. I've been pondering SF for quite some time now, and finally decided to pull that trigger a couple months back. I haven't looked back since and am now 3 mos into my training regiment. God willing, this time next year I'll be on my way to Q course.

Whatever the hell the outcome, at least I gave it my best!

If anyone on here is a candidate or QP with B/2/20, by all means please feel free to contact me

New 6th Grp Member

Hey, Woody here. It was great finding this site, was actually looking for an old 6th Grp friend who had been on the Son Tay raid. Haven't found a way to reach out to him yet, but I'm sure I'll eventually get there. SF has changed a lot since the late 60's/early 70's, for the better I'd say. Was talking to the CG of JFK a few weeks ago and he told me that the scenario's in Robin Sage are pretty much the same as they were when I went through in Nov 69. No, I'm not a name dropper, we're not buddies, but I am a good friend of his uncle.
Flanagan was CG, my Company Commander (no SF battalions then, we were small and tight) was LTC Ellerbe, my SGM was Beckerman, and my team sgt was Szabados, a Polish refuge from Nazi Germany as a child, who I learned so much from.
Nice to be on board, looking forward to hooking in to SF brothers.

QP's and others

My name is Joe and I am from Northern California. I am currently training my body for a 18x contract because failure is not an option for me, and don't plan on signing until the coming summer. I am here to learn and better understand the ways and attitude of QP's like you all and hope to become the best soldier I can possibly be.
Thank you for hosting and posting in this forum with a no nonsense approach; it has answered many questions I could not find elsewhere .
