2006 JSOC Matches

2006 JSOC Matches

The US Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, GA and the Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, NC are hosting the second annual Joint Special Operations Command Small Arms Championships. The matches will be conducted 2-7 April 2006 at Range 14 at Fort Bragg, NC.

All active, reserve, National Guard, and DOD civilians are eligible to participate.

The championships are comprised of the following matches: Long Range Rifle Match; Slow Fire Rifle Match; Joint Services Rifle Match; JSOC Infantry Trophy Match; Combat Rifle Excellence-in-Competition match; General George Patton Pistol Team Match; Command Sergeant Major's Team Matches; Combat Pistol Match; and Combat Pistol EIC Match.

The Army Marksmanship Unit provides Squad Designated Marksman and Close Quarters Marksmanship training throughout the Army, and is the parent organization for Army competitive marksmanship. It is in this role that AMU Soldiers will assist JSOC to ensure the second annual JSOC Small Arms Championships are a success. USAMU staff will deploy to Bragg and assist in match setup and operations.

The USAMU is also working with the 82nd Airborne Division to revive its Division Matches.

The match format mirrors parts of Fort Benning Commanding General Rifle and Pistol Championships and the All-Army Small Arms Championships, and are Major Command (MACOM) matches.

Shooters will have the opportunity to earn up to 10 credit points each towards earning the Distinguished Rifleman and Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges.

To date 3,320 US Army Distinguished Rifleman and 1,680 US Army Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges have been awarded since the Civil War. 362 Soldiers are double distinguished (holding both rifle and pistol badges). 13 Soldiers are triple distinguished, earning the Distinguished Rifleman's Badge, Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge, and the Distinguished International Shooter Badge.

For more information on the matches call match director Kevin Hoyt at (910) 243-1213 or via e-mail at hoytk@jdi.army.mil.
