Soldier, Widow Win Lawsuit Against Al-Qaida

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...udegment_x.htm

SALT LAKE CITY -- A soldier wounded in Afghanistan and the widow of another soldier have been awarded a judgment of more than $102 million from the estate of a suspected al-Qaida financier.

But the two parties may have a tough time collecting because the suspected financier's assets are unknown.

While most soldiers have had a hard time identifying their attackers, Sgt. Layne Morris cited news reports to show who had wounded him and killed medic Christopher Speer.

The ruling cites similar evidence that the financier was linked to al-Qaida and trained his son to attack American targets.

The judge in the case said the lawsuit may be the first filed by an American soldier against terrorists under the Patriot Act.
