"One Bullet Away"

I just read this recently and enjoyed it. It's the story of a Marine officer, his training, taking command of a platoon, further training, and deployment to Afghanistan. Upon returning from A'stan, he decides to try for Recon, makes it and goes to Iraq just before the war their begins. The book then follows the platoon as they race across Iraq.

I found the book interesting and inspiring. More than halfway through the book I figured out (D'Ohhh!!!) that this is the same Recon platoon profiled in "Generation Kill". It was fascinating to compare the impressions of the authors, one writing of commanding the platoon, the other from the POV of an embedded reporter.

Sneaky, you'll love this. Not only is the author a college boy, he's an Ivy Leaguer (Dartmouth).
