Age requirement?

Talked to a recruiter today, thanks to a friend of mine with an 18x giving him my name/number. Anyway I talked to him about the 18x contract and he mentioned I have to be 20 years old to enlist with that certain contract, I was wondering if this is true or if hes just mistaken, considering I had to tell him what an Option 40 was, I just wanted to be sure, Thanks.

Give a me day or two...

I'll get the regulations of the requirement of enlisting and post them.

Take care.

Age Requirement

My son went in on the 18X contract when he was 19 (July 2004). He's 20 now and will most likely be 21 when (I'm staying positive) he completes Language School which will be the final part of the initial training. Not sure if things have changed since he enlisted. Good luck with your decision making. I've found the men in this forum to be a wealth of information. Do yourself a favor though and do a SEARCH first to see if your question has been discussed previously. Best of luck with your decisions.

I'd like to hear about you being a wise old SGM at 37. Stay in touch and give it hell.

Best of luck to you.

This isn't the AR and is dated 2002. The only age requirement listed is to be less than 30 years at time of enlistment.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses, this was one of the reasons ive been trying to avoid recruiters until im good to go. Also elementskater, my friend is shipping out with an 18x 6 days after you are. I may be too now that I know the truth, so once you get closer to your shipdate let me know if you want his name.

Do you guys have Boy Soldiers like the Brits do?

It's semi related so I figured it would be alright here.

I'll take that as a no. It's a soldier who goes in at either 15 or 16, I forget which.

Kia, The answer is no. In fact a person under the age of 18 is required to get parental consent.

Additonally I believe that a soldier is still required to have at a minimum a GED to enlist. Which would further preclude someone so young from enlisting.

I guess I am wrong, According to the Army Times Dated 100305

Hey Joedan,
I'm shipping out around that time too. You should have your friend get an account here since there's TONS of information for him to look at.
