whats up with Abu Farraj al-Libbi's name?

Is it the same guy as Anas al-Liby?

Al-Liby, al-Libi and al-Libby all mean the same thing - "the Libyan" - which can be either an actual name or a nom de guerre (or a nom de plume for that matter, if you are into Libyan poetry).

Abu Farraj al-Libbi is not the same person as Anas al-Liby. There is some debate over Abu Farraj's actual status within al-Qa'ida, but the Sunday Times article on which the CSMonitor story is based has been questioned. See, for example, http://counterterror.typepad.com/the..._times_on.html
