Best place to get a bagel

Ok, where is your favorite bagel spot and what is your favorite kind of bagel?

Mine is Panera Bread Company and the best is their Asiago Cheese Bagel. They also make an asiago foccacia which is kick ass for making a roasted portobello mushroom and mozzarella panini. Now all I need is a panini press!

There's a place called Wholy Bagels I sometimes hit. Just plain for me, too.

My wife and I agree. The best bagels are fresh from the oven and generally only found in NYC. I too like them plain with a little bit of butter or cream cheese while the bagel is still hot enough to melt it.

H&H bagels 79th and B'way, IIRC, across the street from Zabar's. Plain or sesame with a schmear.

In LA, the best place I know of is Goldstein's on Colorado in Old Pasadena. I like a toasted onion bagel with lox, cream cheese and tomato.

The Albertson's on Tezel in NW San Antonio used to have nice fresh bagels back in the late 90's, but HEB had the best sun-dried tomato bagels.

Max's NY Deli off of I-10 had good ones, too.

I have to drive 30 miles to get a fresh bagel now.

That's about how far we went today to get them. There is an Einstein Bros. closer but it is in another state and I like to keep my tax dollars at home!

Ding, ding, ding - correct answer!

There are no places here, I have to drive 3,000 miles if I want one. I buy the Sara Lee ones from the commissary.
