CCW Holsters
Has anybody used the "SmartCarry" concealed holster rig? It appaers to me to be a good hot climate holster.

Sir, I had one of that type (I believe it was called Thunderwear) that I used for awhile. I carried mostly either my PPKs or a Smith M60 .38 in it. In jeans or other tighter fitting pants, it was pretty uncomfortable, especially when sitting down. The bulge was also pretty noticeable (not bad, I guess, if youre wearing it in a singles bar...  ). In looser front pants (Dockers, etc) or dress pants, it really wasnt too bad. If you dont buy your pants with a loose waistband, drawing it wasnt quick by any weans (even after I had the hammer on my M60 bobbed). If I wore a belt, I found it was really bad, as I couldnt even open the front to gain access. The best option that worked for me was, as you said, for hot weather wear. Shorts with a loose front was about the only way I used it. Since I rarely wear shorts, it kinda went by the wayside. Just my .02 with that type of rig. Hope it helps.

Mac, that is the type of info I was looking for. In checking there web site and the data found there I thought myself that some of the things that you mention would be a factor. There is no free lunch I guess.

We ran across home-made versions in El Sal and if I'm not mistaken, filipino Sparrow Teams were also known to use them.
I would think the bulge would be value-added.

I bought my smart carry when I was in Miami doing my trauma fellowship. We all carried at work and everywhere we went and with the weather down there it wasw a great method of concealed carry. I still have the same one...been wearing it since 1995. I wear it under my scrubs, with dress pants, etc. You do need a slimmer profile pistol. The Glock 23 is a little wide in the grip and prints more than my G-36. Likewise the Kahr PM9 is much easier to conceal than the G-26. A single stack 1911 hides extremely well vs my Para Tac-Four...double stack but it is better than the G-23.
Overall, it is comfortable to wear all day and night, getting in and out of a chair, car, etc. Can use the bathroom without difficulty, standing, sitting, etc.
NO TRIGGER GUARD....must have EXCELLENT finger control and trigger safety mindset or you could shoot off the jewels or put a round through your leg......PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE with this form of carry with dry fire ....as with everything else we do, mistakes are costly and usually avoidable.
I give this product my full endorsement.

NDD if I am not mistaking I believe that the Sparrow teams used their non firing hand to support the weapon through the pocket. This allowed for a push up with that hand as they drew. The film I watched of the captured sparrow was a real eye opener. Just say you do not have time to react.

Roger, I have seen that as well. 1911 stuck in the pants and the off-hand pushes it up. Very, very fast.

Any idea where I can get a copy of this video?
I just read a study where most common thugs could draw and fire from this position in less the 1.5 secs. Not a magical feet by any means but pretty impressive for someone with little practice.
