Thanks all

Good evening one and all,

My apologies for not posting much in retirement but my lack of participation doesn't mean you all have been away from my thoughts.

I thought I would share this with you all because I knew you'd know what it means. The Army transferred our kids back to Fort Sam Houston in November and were supposed to have housing for them. Well they have been in a hotel since 10 November and it has taken a toll on their 7 year old who has special needs. He is here with us for 2 weeks going to school here while his brother waits on updating his shots and mom and his brother and sister move in with us so they have a stable house to live in until the Army can get them quarters.

Yesterday I took him to our local Veteran's Park that is just down the road from us. He was always interested in the park because of the dust off Huey and as we went though all the monuments he paused and read each plaque aloud to me. I then took him to the Vietnam memorial and introduced him to my cousin who I last saw the night before he shipped out and I was about the same age as my grandson is when I last saw him.

We also came across this monument dedicated to the men of the Special Forces and I immediately thought about all my friends here.

Take care my friends and know you are appreciated.

Kevin

Bleed Green, I just retired earlier this year out of Sam. They have very little housing and your kids may want to look into securing off-post facilitates. There problem with "special needs kids" is that San Antonio is a HUGE medical city and there is usually very little requirement to ensure EFMP's are placed on Base. Their medical needs can be met throughout the city. I will tell you that the folks at the Army Support Activity work VERY hard at getting folks into housing in a timely manner but with the scarcity, the fact that it is an Air Force managed installation, and the Army Three Star thinking they own it and manage everything, complicates things.
