Maui Fire(S)
I have a bone to pick with the tree huggers.
It deals with the topic of "control burning."
All the tree huggers are adamantly opposed to CB's and the world suffers from their stupid ideology.
When I first read about the Maui Fires, I thought this was another devastation that may have been avoided or marginalized with "Control Burns" to get rid of accumulated NATURAL organic debris.
Well, X-spurts have been telling the locals the same for YEARS.
It was NOT CLIMATE CHANGE.

Thanks To Government, Maui's Lahaina Fire Became A Deadly Conflagration, by Tyler Durden, Wednesday, Aug 16, 2023 - 06:20 PM
Nearly a decade ago the Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization, a research nonprofit, warned the Hawaiian government that the area around Lahaina was extremely fire-prone due to frequent downslope winds, steep terrain, and dry grass. Little was done to address these risks. A subsequent report in 2020 added that an invasive species of exceptionally flammable grass was prevalent in the surrounding fields and that passing hurricanes created strong winds known to fuel wildfires on the islands.

I lived on Big Pine Key for nearly 20 yrs. Big Pine Key is the home of the Key Deer, a sub-species of White Tail Deer with a population of some 1000+ head. BPK is only about 10 sq miles. The Florida/Monroe County extension service and our fire department do control burning annually. Not only does it get rid on the bio trash, but the burn rejuvenates the soil for the regrowth of local grasses for deer feed.
Tourists and tree huggers hate it just because... They are our Karens
PS: I think the fact the deer buy our local LEOs donuts also helps

Materials burned in a planned fire include dead grass, fallen tree branches, dead trees, and thick undergrowth.
Before a controlled burn is lit, a plan—or prescription—is drawn up. This plan includes details on how big the fire will be, what it will burn, and what managers hope to accomplish with the fire. It also includes the weather and environmental conditions under which the fire will burn and any situations that might require the fire to be extinguished. Controlled-burn managers also map out how the fire will be set, how the smoke will be managed, how to inform the public, what protective equipment might be needed, and what firefighting resources should be standing by.

don't lose sight of the fact that they are trying to shift the blame for the fire on "Climate change." They screwed the pooch by not doing the burns, not eradicating undergrowth, not maintaining the lines, not keeping the fire system (hydrants) charged, etc. They diverted most of the money into "Green, sustainable" energy unicorns some years back and neglected maintenance of the grid.
Heads will roll in this as the facts come out.

They didn't screw the pooch - things are going along according to plan.
The people in charge KNOW what they are doing. They know the intended consequences and in many cases - they understand that there are unintended consequences...
...they also accept that you have to break eggs to make omelets.
Its why crime is blamed on guns and man made catastrophes are blamed on climate change.
Create - or allow the creation of a crisis - then, rush in to solve it.

One of their uniformed mouthpieces mentioned that they purposely didn't sound any alarm because those are reserved for tsunami warnings, and train people to go to high ground. I remember when they were triggered during the fake NORK missile alert a few years back. So apparently going out of your home to high ground is what they prescribe during an inbound missile strike.
OT: what is it with police forces these days that continually adorn themselves with military rank? I saw the chief of a PD in a town of about 15K that had made himself a 6-star general.

In this video, the boat captain said that there used to be a lot of agriculture, sugar cane, pineapple, etc., that kept the area hydrated and green. but they got rid of it for the betterment of the planet (or something), then he said, "Don't get me wrong, that's a good thing." Starts a 6:44 and ends about 9:48: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhVZW5HvyUE
I say fuck them! They brought this on themselves.

Commiefornia had the same problem. For years forestry experts have been saying controlled burns are needed but were shouted down by environmentalists. There have been several catastrophic fires over the last few years in Northern California. The town of Paradise burned to the ground in the Camp fire in 2018... As a side note, in the 1700's when the Spanish first came to Southern California, they called the Los Angeles area 'Valle de las Fumas', Valley of Smoke, due to the fires of the local indians...

It has been noted that the millionaire mansions went pretty much unscathed...because they are surrounded by well kept grounds without dry underbrush.

Jeepers, that must be about 2 deer / football field - Surely that's a pain in the arse?

Big estates owned by Bazilionaire pay to have meticulously maintained acreage.
I suspect they had their water hydrations system on full 24/7 to keep the yard wet.
It's hard not to be judgemental, but it is a fact of life..
On the flip..
The Tin Foilers are also up in arms about :
1) The Govenior blocking attempts to buy up any and all property
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/16/hawa...d-lahaina.html
2) Insurance companies denying coverage because they are saying the properties
https://www.vosslawfirm.com/blog/ins...ing-insura.cfm
3) Ophra may have let her sprinklers run, but why is she buying so much land?
https://www.tiktok.com/@medicweir/vi...51960863051050
4) AP is running blocking action for a video that purports to show Hawaii Gov. Josh Green saying he wants the state to acquire land destroyed in the Maui wildfire so that it can turn the town of Lahaina into a “smart city.”
https://apnews.com/article/fact-chec...y-534303567490
5) Biden pledges Bazillions to Ukraine and pennies for Maui.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcxNqwJxvos
At this point, all one can say is the Maui Fires will be a HOT topic for a while.

The deer are not a problem for the locals. Because small size and limited space, they have become semi-domesticated.
They are aggressive when it comes to food. They will consume just about anything you plant. The "wild" diet is Red & Black Mangroves, which are very low in nutrients. I suspect that's why they are so small.
Additionally, they swim between Big Pine Key and about 20+ smaller islands, sometimes 2-3 miles, to spread out the population.
Here are a few of my old friends. Because I maintained a mowed yard, the does would let us "babysit" while grazing, and during the rut, the bucks strut their thing.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing those. I can tell that little fawns are as guilty of FRAM (Frenetic Random Activity Mode) as any of the deer species when they discover they've got springs in their young legs.
