Perspective on Tucker Carlson's firing by Fox

Having observed Carlson for awhile I found this essay by 'Sundance' over at Conservative Treehouse interesting.

Excerpt:
Quote:
This is a context you won’t find elsewhere {smiles}. The phone has been blowing up…. Context and some details matter.

First, Carlson was being paid about $20 million a year by Murdoch. He had about 3 years left on his contract and will be paid the full contract amount. Carlson found out about 10 minutes before Fox Corp made the announcement. They did not “part ways,” Tucker Carlson was fired.

(Via WSJ) – Mr. Carlson, whose contract was renewed in 2021, will be paid out for the rest of his contract, people familiar with the matter said. Mr. Carlson is paid about $20 million a year, one of the people said. Mr. Carlson found out he was being let go about 10 minutes before the network announced his departure, the people said.

For financial context, remember Rupert Murdoch paid Megyn Kelly $15 million (Via Harper Collins) for the 2015/2016 operation against Donald Trump. Paying $60 to $100 million to get rid of Carlson’s antagonistic voice is small money to Murdoch Inc. in the grand scheme of things. [Murdoch has also paid for Ron DeSantis to oppose Trump]

Carlson will not be asked to sign an NDA, is not bound by a “non-compete” clause following the contract nullification by Fox Corp, and will be free to do anything he wants in any venture. Additionally, he will be free to say whatever he wants about the issues at Fox and speak freely, or not, without any legal or contractual constraints. Keep all of that in mind.
Rest of the article is worth a read, discusses Carlson's evolution, as well as finally calling out the "emperor's new clothes" of the current political scene.

Yeah, not to mention that his work, his specials, were a huge amount of the product on their Fox Nation subscription service. And those accounts are getting cancelled apace.

Carlson was over the target with a whole squadron.

Carlson and Lemon bagged on the same day.

"I woke this morning with a tumescent glow."

Bow tie boy must of really pissed off Murdoch. The $60m ( 3 years) may be a pittance but there's a lot more advertising $$$ at stake.

Edit: So it looks like Carlson generated $77m in ads last year. Not as much as I guessed. But if viewers drop, then ad revenue may also affect others like Hannity and Ingraham.

Fox loses $500 million in value after announcing Tucker Carlson is leaving

Quote:
Fox Corporation's worth as a public company has sunk more than $500 million after the media company on Monday announced that it is parting ways with star host Tucker Carlson, raising questions about the future of Fox News and the future of the conservative network's prime time lineup.
It's just money to the stockholders...worth it to get rid of that guy who refuses to go along with the regime narrative.

Business. Nothing more. Nothing less.

America is RAN by Business.

Cross them and cost them profit, you get dealt with. The “policy makers” (politicians) are not in charge of anything. The people who make money are!

I suspect there is a collateral benefit for the suits on the boards in terms of messaging, "pour encourager les autres" kinda sorta.

Also in the rumor mill: Trump may want to buy FoxNews after he wins and he'll let Turker run the show?

Watch the first 2 minutes.
Notice how nervous he seems.

Fox gets plenty of advertising money from big pharma.
Tucker knew he was writing his own pink slip.

Indeed; the breathing cadence & heavy chest show he's got something he feels very passionate about, and to follow it up with RFK Jr. - when Fox is hidebound GOP - probably made Murdoch's spawn regurgitate their evening tofu.

Matt Boyle at Breitbart has a bit longer-than-usual blurb here discussing the Carlson/Bongino ousters. Goes a bit deeper than just Carlson. Here's just a snippet:

Quote:
Fox News is trying to sideline former Tucker Carlson Tonight host Tucker Carlson through the 2024 election, multiple sources familiar with the matter told Breitbart News.

Carlson’s current contract runs through December 2024, and as of now three sources familiar with the matter told Breitbart News that executives at the network are trying to keep Carlson on contract and not release him until after the 2024 election. The shocking decision to cancel Carlson’s top-rated weeknight program came just days after the network shut down its top-rated weekend program with host Dan Bongino. What follows here is an insider account from people actually in the know after Breitbart News spent the past several days interviewing key players in the personnel matters at Fox News, asking what really happened.

Two things are clear from speaking to people who actually know what’s happening on the inside: First, the official narrative from the network is untrue. Second, and perhaps more importantly, many of the leaks and speculation that have poured out in the past couple days since the bombshell news of Carlson’s show getting canceled was announced are also simply untrue.

Nobody would speak on the record, for a number of reasons. First off, Fox News and the broader Murdoch empire are known for their ruthlessness against anyone who speaks the truth about what is actually happening there. Network spokeswoman Irena Briganti is believed to use outlets also owned by the Murdochs like the New York Post and Wall Street Journal to plant pieces that reflect poorly on foes of News Corporation.
