Irma,, she's a bad mama jama...

For the Florida crowd,, Be Prepared to leave,, possibly the state...

Most of the models show the storm turning right when it gets to the Keys,, So... Escape routs to the North will be backed up.. The Disney area is not safe.

Cat 5 Irma now with 175mph winds.

Spaghetti Models from tropicaltidbits.com show the gradual shift to the west overnight.

It is important to also show the EURO and GFS ensembles from weathernerds.org. EURO has trended more to the west and the GFS more the east.

Still several members take Irma to possible east coast states so don't stop watching GA/SC/NC/VA.

It is coming down to an expected turn. When that happens is a big factor on who gets what. Hurricane Warnings are posted for VI/PR and the northern Lesser Antilles. Watches up for DR.

Keys and southern Florida should be getting a little anxious. Timing puts potential Irma there as soon as Saturday afternoon/night.

I will be going live at 9am eastern to talk more. Everything you need on Hurricane Irma on my site and APP: www.spaghettimodels.com

Mikes Weather Page APP,
Gods speed, Prayers out..

Prayers out to all in Florida and the surrounding areas!

I don't wish hurricanes on anyone in the US! I have learned to hate them!

Echo the thoughts and prayers out to everyone in the path of this.

Don't get lulled into thinking you'll be alright. Take whatever measures are necessary to protect life.

I think with the rapid succession of two major disasters and several States ablaze the President should have an action plan in place over the next 24-hours. And that should include the military. I'd love to see the largest and best prepared humanitarian assistance and security organization the world over used for something other than fighting other people's wars. I have no problem with my tax dollars being used by the single largest salt/freshwater navy and vertical lift air capacity to reach places impacted by these storms.

The storms have not gotten worse nor are they bigger than the past but more people than ever live in harms way from them. We should have a better plan in place because you can't change Mother Nature only what happens after she's done. You also are not going to change human nature, only pick up the pieces and maintain security until security is provided again.

ODNT, sir, I agree. I'm a fire Captain and have my degree in Emergency Management, so know that there are legal limits on the use of US military, stateside; however, I would love to see the power of our military used to save our own people. FEMA and its resources are certainly stretched thin and local emergency resources will be overwhelmed, quickly. My department is 600 miles north of Houston and we have several assets helping with rescues and recovery there.

You are spot-on, too, that we have created much of our own misery. We live in places not suited to habitation (most often the poor, because it's cheaper or the rich, because they can). Some of the misery in Houston could have been prevented if government and insurance didn't under-write construction of homes in, otherwise, hazardous locations.

My prayers are with any and all of you that may be affected.

Vicinity Pensacola / Gulf Breeze

Any PS.COM members vicinity Gulf Breeze who would be available to help pack a Ryder truck Friday / Saturday for a few hours please PM me.

Don't know if the path will enter the Gulf, but having shoveled out of IVAN (the Terrible) and DENNIS (the Menace) I'd like to see if I can minimize effects of Irma if she shows up.

Take care of your family first, I'm just looking for single soldier assets or those safely north should the need arise.

Thanks.

My mom is in Bonita Springs Florida, and I have two sisters about an hour north. I need to contact the family and see if they are prepared. I know my mom, she is pretty stubborn so I hope she is ready to move just in case.

Take care all, thoughts and prayers

NHC latest track shifts to the east some... as overnight EURO and GFS do the same. Still smack dab down the middle of FLA. Watching if continuing trend. FL to VA need to watch. Pressure down to 914mb with winds 185mph. Going live at 9am eastern with another post before then. www.spaghettimodels.com / Mikes Weather

Let there be no doubt, this storm is foretast at Cat 5.

The last Cat 5, to hit Florida, was Andrew.
https://www.google.com/search?q=hurr...w=1367&bih=615

Andrew cut across South Florida, Miami to the West Coast.

If Irma drives North, the damage could be xx factor in scale..

You should be executing your egress plan now..

Might have some refugees from Key West coming up to stay with us a few days.

All depends on track and evacuation requirements.

Warn them that the LEO's shut down the bridges when the winds hit 45MPH, for fear the trucks will be flipped and block traffic..

Also they block all vehicles with trailers with boats and campers, for the same reason.

They've been down there over 30 years. We offered and they accepted - but they are keeping a close eye on things.

Wonder if CDS has a class running right now?

Never liked a place with a 90 mile driveway.

Irma has a little sister tagging along right behind her.
Here is an interesting graphic of winds vs temps: https://www.windy.com/?26.215,-70.884,5

Stay safe.

Key West

Key West military operations are closed and people are to be evacuated. Only 50 to 60 folks will remain behind to man essential functions.

This is interesting: List of Retired Atlantic Hurricane Names. Scroll down a little and check out the years ending in "5" column, 19 retired names. The "5" and "4" column have, by far, the most retired names (meaning the most destructive). The Sun is on an 11-year cycle.

I lived in Beaumont, TX, for Audry just 2 days before my 7th birthday.
