President-elect Donald Trump plans to nominate Virtu Financial founder Vincent Viola as secretary of the Army, the Trump transition team said on Monday.

"Whether it is his distinguished military service or highly impressive track record in the world of business, Vinnie has proved throughout his life that he knows how to be a leader and deliver major results in the face of any challenge," Trump was quoted as saying in a statement.

Military Service

Viola was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1977. After graduating from the Infantry Officer Basic Course and Ranger School, he reported to duty with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell.[7] After leaving active duty, Viola remained in the U.S. Army Reserves, rising to the rank of major. [8] Viola has remained actively engaged with national security issues.[9]
