Question about steel

I am looking at purchasing a new KA-Bar knife, and can't decide between two of the blades. I know a lot of you have used them and was wanting some insight. Is there any advantage to go with the 1095 carbon blade over the 440a stainless. The reason for the stainless is obvious, but with everyday use I don't think that rust would be a problem for me. I was wondering if there was any strength differences. Also I think I heard somewhere that the carbon is easier to sharpen. I don't know if that is true, and don't really know if it would even matter. Anyways thanks in advance for any input.

They almost seem like opposites.

440a is not only stainless, it's supposed to be the most stainless / rust resistant of all the 440's.

1095 will rust easily but will hold an edge better.

General observation:
- Rust is more of an issue with knives than people talk about or expect
- People in general don't take good care of their gear.

Like not many people floss their teeth.

This is just me.....but buy the 1095 and paint it.

440A is not gonna make you happy...unless you just want to let it hang on your BC.....

Concur, if you are going to use it, rather than look at it..

What is so bad about a little rust anyway, you expecting an inspection?

BTW, Mick, James from Bugei says "howdy".

Large and in charge. Will be there for the full show.

Watch John closely, he seemed to have a lot of your HSLD toys on him, not sure how he acquired them, but they sure looked sweet.
