Scotland Trip
Am headed to Scotland soon for 16 days. Will be attending the Military Tattoo in Edinburgh then some Highland Games in Dunoon. Will be travelling by train, tram, ferry, taxi and rental car. We will be making a big loop taking in Falkirk, Stirling, Inverness, Aberdeen, and various other towns ending up back in Edinburgh. For those of you who have been there was there anything you saw or did that would be on your must see or do list?

Check out Bowhill Estate in Selkirk...the home of Clan Scott...the Duke of Buccleuch is the Clan Chieftan of Clan Scott and the largest land owner in the British Isles.
The art collection is amazing.

What color is the boathouse at Hereford?
(I know, it's not in Scotland, I just had to say it)
Seriously, I would go to Jedburgh in southern Scotland.

A few of my list of must see's:
- Commando Monument, Spean Bridge (pics 3-5)
- Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle
- Great Hall, Stirling Castle = pic is my family standing under the clan shield located in the position of high honor to the right of the throne in the Great hall - my ancestors were staunch supporters of Robert the Bruce and the clan still holds the title of High Constable of the Realm of Scotland.
- Scottish Coronation site, Moot Hill, Scone Palace, Perth = small stone chapel is the site of the coronation of many of the earliest Scottish kings and the original site of the Stone of Scone taken by Edward 1 'Longshanks' and now residing in the treasury with the coronation jewels in Edinburgh Castle - pic is my family (minus oldest son and his wife) with me seated on the replica of the Stone of Scone located at the coronation site.
- Black Watch Monument, Aberfeldy
- Culloden Battlefield and Museum
- Meigle sculpted pictish stone museum
- Rosslyn Chapel, Rosewell = fascinating blend of celtic and Christian religious symbolism made famous in the book/movie 'The DaVinci Code'.
- Edradour Distillery, Pitlochry = smallest distillery in Scotland.
- Glenfiddich Distillery = one of Scotland's largest distilleries and a great tour of the processes and their history.
Safe travels.
Richard

If there was a boathouse it would have been green like everything else there.
A few of us had a chance to get of the area and took a road trip up from Hereford to attend the Tattoo in '07 but couldn't get in due to it being sold out 6 months prior. We were on a 24-hr road trip so there was only so much we could go check out. We did get to stroll around Edinburgh for part of the day and also got to visit Hadrian's Wall while enroute. It was pretty cool to see the northern most limit of the Roman Empire.

WHISKY
Anytime you are near any of the stills. If you plan to take some home, ask about filing to get the vat back, You will need to do at customs on exit,, Save you 18% tax..
Try to get a copy of Michael Jackson's whisky bible as a pre deployment read.
https://www.amazon.com/Michael-Jacks...ichael+Jackson
Ranger Football, Glasglow
See football the way the locals do.. Bring full size personal first aide kit, for each member.. Do not wear any color of the visiting team,, they will find you and beat you bad, they are known to check bras and undies.. Don't try to talk Glaswegien,, this can also get you in trouble.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_patter
Extras:
Walking - Light to medium walking-hiking boots. Lots of cobble streets and 500 year-old sidewalks..
Rain gear,, cold weather rain gear,, Capish..

Don't spell whisky with an E in Scotland unless you want to meet the original claymore.
