Skydiver Luke Aikins to jump from plane without parachute or wingsuit.
Well, this should be interesting:
Quote:
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. -- He's made 18,000 parachute jumps, helped train some of the world's most elite skydivers, done some of the stunts for "Iron Man 3." But the plunge Luke Aikins knows he'll be remembered for is the one he's making without a parachute. Or a wingsuit.
Or anything, really, other than the clothes he'll be wearing when he jumps out of an airplane at 25,000 feet this weekend, attempting to become the first person to land safely on the ground in a net.
The Fox network will broadcast the two-minute jump live at 8 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. PDT) Saturday as part of an hour-long TV special called "Heaven Sent."

Its going to be an awesome stunt, or a huge cupful of bleach in the gene pool...
...either way it is a win-win scenario for the spectators

I wonder what the bug-on-the-windshield odds are at my local Indian casino.

It's not the impact that kills you - it's the impact after the first bounce when all your bones shatter.

I can't find any NOTAMS on this except TFRs for firefighting AC in the area. Seems like a pretty small target for a 25,000' freefall and there are residences and a golf course nearby.

If there ever was; it's in the circular filing cabinet.
(You'll find it near the water-cooler and the big guy who claimed to be SF/SEAL)

It would be like Baumgartner's but I don't see that happening in SOCAL airspace.
There is a member here who had a ZALO out of an OV-1 here at Ft. Huachuca a few decades ago.
I remember Evil Knievel said that he was going to jump without a parachute into the L.A. Colosseum filled with straw. That didn't happen either.

I personally could care less for him or his wife if he burns in. However the logic doing something like this with a little child at home is beyond me.

You need a chute to perform a HANO.

I did an eighty foot fall when I was teaching rappelling back in the eighties ... the belay man lost the line on a belayed fall .... After yelling falling I laid back in a reverse swan dive and waited for the belay man to stop my descent ... and waited ... and waited. Was counting the windows going down and got to the second floor window (It was a fire tower we were using to teach rappelling) and I thought to myself -- this is going to hurt! I went into a PLF position and hit the blacktop. Got lucky and hit nothing but soft tissue until the force of the fall snapped my head back and my skull hit, giving me a knot on my head and a concussion.
First thing I heard was a student yelling, "You're not going to make me do that!" I got up and, of course, had to do it again to weather the shock (I changed belay man and he didn't lose his belay on the second demonstration). The pic of me sitting on the parapet was taken that day before the "accident" ....
Now, would I like to do something like the 25 grand hop and no pop ... I think not ....
