24 working dogs killed in Kuwait

Hearing reports out of Kuwait that 24 trained working dogs were killed, and 90 more in danger, due to a contract dispute. If true, that is some low-down, underhanded shit right there. The pic is not pleasant to view.

24 Dogs Killed By Workers

24 dogs of the K9 Division of a private security company were killed on Thursday, June 17 in Shuaiba, sparking outrage when photos of were made public on social media over the weekend.

A concerned Kuwaiti citizen, Esmail Al Misri, has lodged a criminal case that is now awaiting investigation by the authorities.

Speaking to the Arab Times, he shared that the killing was seemingly motivated by revenge because workers had not been paid their salaries since April 2016 on account of a contract being revoked. Photographs circulating on the internet show the sickly frames of some dogs, casting speculation on the conditions they were kept in. “We know how dogs that are well-fed and well taken care of look. The photos were taken immediately after the incident so we can rule out dehydration as a cause of their sickly state”, Al Misri stated.

He expressed concerns that a further 90 dogs were awaiting a similar fate and hoped that intervention would come in time.

The Arab Times contacted the security company and an employee, with firsthand knowledge of the situation and speaking on condition of anonymity, stressed that a lot of falsehoods were being spread online. He revealed that while handlers had not been paid for two months and a contract had been lost, there were other contracts in play and the dogs had been humanely euthanized solely for medical reasons.

He informed that all of the dogs that were selected to be put down were old and retired from service on account of medical conditions that included tumours, cataracts, chronic diarrhoea, hip dysplasia, while others were too aggressive. He claimed that the dogs had been seen by vets and diagnosed with these issues two years ago.

He also stated that the company had explored other alternatives and contacted animal welfare societies in Kuwait to facilitate the adoption of the dogs but all these attempts were unsuccessful. “These dogs were suffering in the condition they were in. In my opinion, this should have been done a year ago”, he said. He shared that in the past eight years, two dogs had been put down when their aggressive behaviour had become a liability while others had died of natural causes.

He did concede that mistakes had been made and the company was caught off guard in this situation, “The company had taken steps to euthanize small groups of dogs over a period of time but a member of our kennel staff jumped the gun and euthanized them all at once. He has been terminated for going against the procedure.” The executive strongly denied allegations that more dogs will be put down.

Count me in, but I don't want to waste any bullets. Do they play cricket in Kuwait?

And south of the border we find: Warning! Don't watch this with a gun in your hand.

Their punishment should fit the crime...in their case an "eye for an eye" seems fitting.

Those two legged animals don't deserve to be called human beings!

KNPC clarifies reports on execution of sniffer dogs

A report from the Kuwait Times calls into question some of the information provided in the OP <<LINK>>.

KNPC clarifies reports on execution of sniffer dogs

KUWAIT: The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) issued a statement yesterday denying any link with the reported ‘execution’ of sniffer dogs that were supposed to be used by the company according to deal with a local contractor. KNPC official spokesman Khaled Al-Asousi expressed regret in a statement to KUNA that the contractor put the animals to death.

His action has nothing to do with the company for the contract with him has been repealed due to the latter’s failure to meet certain security standards, as stipulated by the contract, read the statement. The signed contract stipulates that a third party will examine the dogs’ ability to uncover explosives at oil installations. The third party has tested the dogs after concealing explosives in some vehicles. But the dogs have failed to detect the explosives, prompting the company to end the contract.

Last week, reports on social media suggested that at least 24 dogs had been euthanatized due to the cancellation of a contract and unpaid salaries. Unconfirmed sources said that the animals were sick and had been put to death for humane reasons. But local animal rescuer and activist, Mimi Mamoun has disputed this account. “The dogs were not sick, only two, three I heard; in fact my Filipino friend who handles the dogs told me that the dogs were healthy and only a few of them were old but they killed them to punished the handlers who has filed complaints at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (shoun) for nonpayment of salaries,” she said.

Another source who spoke to Kuwait Times on condition of anonymity, said the killings were probably connected to the brewing pressure from the KNPC since they were informed that they have not complied with the provisions signed between the KNPC and the contracting company. A local lawyer has filed a criminal complaint asking for an investigation into the deaths of the animals and oversight for the remaining 90 dogs still in the company’s care.
