Tracking it. We have Brothers working over there. They say the shooter was former Army SF.

Murder suicide. Guy was being disciplined in the commanders office with the 1SG.
And he was one of ours. NG guy who went to 3rd SFG then transitioned to USAF.

Spoke with a guy here that was in 1/75 and went to the Q course with him. As much as I hate to say it he was one of us. But if the papers want to paint him as ex-FBI that's good with me. He wasn't an actual FBI agent either. He had quit that as well.

Apparently the shooter was recently washed out of Pararescue indoc and was holding a "grudge."

An Air Force official said that Bellino is believed to be the alleged gunman.

"The 37th Training Wing mourns the loss of our airmen and family members," wing commander Brig. Gen. Trent Edwards said in the release. "Our primary focus at this time is to take care of the family and the men and women who are grieving our losses. A tragedy of this type is felt by each and every member, but we will pull together to help our own."

In a post on the 37th's official Facebook page, Edwards eulogized Schroeder.

"I worked closely with Lt Col Schroeder; and my wife Vanessa and I knew his family," Edwards said on Facebook. "He was an amazing Airman, father and husband. Our focus at this time is to take care of Lt Col Schroeder's family who is here in the local area. He leaves behind a wife and two small children — we will care for and comfort them as best we can. We will also take care of the family members and friends who are grieving the loss of TSgt Bellino."

Edwards said the Air Force is investigating the deaths with FBI support, and asked people not to speculate on social media about what happened.

"It's simply unfair to the family members and friends who are grieving and searching for answers," Edwards said.

The 342nd is the squadron dedicated to entry-level training for all battlefield airmen, such as pararescuemen, combat controllers, special operations weather airmen, and Tactical Air Control Party airmen. The shooting took place in a first-floor office in building 147 of the Medina Annex at Lackland.

Bellino, 41, of Parma Heights, Ohio, had been a 1T2 pararescueman student at the 342nd since he entered active duty in June 2015, according to information released by the Air Force.

Schroeder, 39, of Ames, Iowa, had run the 342nd since May 2014. Schroeder, whose primary career field was as a J15W3 weather officer, previously was commander of the 10th Combat Weather Squadron at Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Schroeder entered active duty in July 1999 and had earned a Bronze Star, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and three Meritorious Service Medals, according to the Air Force.

And yes it was a tsgt who shot him after being washed out of indoc the tsgt also was released from the fbi in his civilian life .... the LT. col fought off the shooter after the shooter shot at the Msgt missing her then the LT. col intervened saving the female Msgt life while she got out of the way the LT. col got shot 3 times in arm then in head he went out fighting and saving a life truly amazing to just without question save her life not even hesitating amazing man heard him speak many times just a down to earth person

Did you serve with him? I did. Some of your comments are a bit inaccurate. Perhaps take a knee and refrain from speculating further.

It's a tragic and terrible event for all. I do not know of the circumstances surrounding the situation and what caused him to snap and commit the act he did.

My thoughts go with both families. I’m sure they are both devastated and hope they can both eventually heal.

OK, I've been watching this thread and just have to contribute my .02. First, I agree with Mr Furious in that we don't know what we don't know. With that said, it's just unfathomable that an S qualified soldier would leave that brotherhood to join the Air Force. This is not in ANY way a slam on the AF, but in my little pea brain it just doesn't make sense. Then add on to that what this young man did.......there is just no logic in a Green Beret even thinking about doing something like this to a fellow soldier, we just aren't wired that way.
Again, we don't know what we don't know and as my Team Sgt told me in 1970, we have to manage our actions and reactions by facts. My heart is heavy for all involved and their families.

What is inaccurate? He was in 1/75 and 3rd SFG.

I agree that this was another horrible incident.

I knew him, he was on my ODA. He was a little bit of a social misfit but a lot of guys are. He was a PT stud; he liked to shoot and practice his skills, he was not the worst SF guy on the team but not the best either. I remember that he wanted to go to CAG as a cherry SF guy. In my opinion I think he was disappointed in SF (difficulty of training, assignment to an ODA, people he worked with, etc.).

He sent me an email or a note thru linkdin a several years ago but I lost touch with him. I don't remember it saying anything of substance but thought it was odd that he contacted me.

I don't know what the totality of the circumstances were, but I hate that he felt his only option was to kill innocent people (regardless of his situation) and ultimately end his own life too (#22).
