Obama to name SCT nominee today
Barack Obama to unveil nominee for U.S. Supreme Court today
The Associated Press Posted: Mar 16, 2016 7:09 AM ET Last Updated: Mar 16, 2016 7:18 AM ET
CBC
President Barack Obama says he'll announce his Supreme Court nominee in a Rose Garden ceremony on Wednesday morning.
He's not naming the pick before the 11 a.m. ET announcement, but the subject line of an email to supporters says: "I've made my decision."
There's a vacancy on the nine-member court due to the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Sources have told The Associated Press that Obama has narrowed the list to three appeals court judges: Merrick Garland, the chief judge of the appeals courts in Washington, D.C.; Sri Srinivasan, a judge on that court; and Paul Watford of the appeals courts based in San Francisco.
Republicans who run the Senate have said they won't consider an Obama nominee in an election year and want the next president to make that choice.
"In putting forward a nominee today, I am fulfilling my constitutional duty. I'm doing my job," Obama said in a statement. "I hope that our senators will do their jobs, and move quickly to consider my nominee. That is what the Constitution dictates, and that's what the American people expect and deserve from their leaders.

This
This is what Presidents get to do.
All you who sit out elections or "usually" vote third party - this is what you get.
Lots of old geezers on the SC. The next president will get to pick at least a couple.
That, folks, is the prize.
Keep your eye on the ball.
The Presidents pick doesn't believe # 2 is an individual right.

That Roberts appointment bit us in the ass without recourse.

I hear what you are saying, yet the SCOTUS seems to have devolved into the dysfunctional circus that our two main political parties have. If you ask me the SCOTUS has been absorbed and the legislative, executive and judical branches have become one massive machine. The 'Justices' frequently do more law making than they do judging.
When I think of the SCOTUS ( and the like of Karl Rove, Alan Greenspan, David Axelron, Bill Kristol types) I envision the Bubble headed Talosian's from Star Trek. Like the RNC, the DNC and Washington, DC in general, the SCOTUS is trapped inside an exclusive and incestuious bubble and has lost touch with reality.
While not SCOTUS related, a recent example just out of out of touch they all are....

Culy credits the media for the 'misconception' but I believe at minimum you can go back to Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address to what has influenced this 'Misconception'

Well said.
Selecting and nominating and approving these Justices remains critical to our freedoms...or not.
Lol, Roberts...imagine another Ginsberg or "wise Latina."
...the 2A hangs in the balance.
And, when that falls one can only imagine the DC circus/shit show.
ETA: NEVER Hillary or Sanders or whoever they drag up.
And NEVER a radically liberal Supreme Court.
That leaves only one reasonable choice this election cycle - any other choice (or sitting out) gives us an entirely predictable bad result.

Then again - the "supreme" court ruling against the 2nd amendment may be the tipping point for the masses. May not necessarily be a bad thing from that standpoint.

The ruling class isn't stupid.
It will never be an in-your-face maneuver that takes all of your shit away. That order will be signed behind closed doors with little if any fanfare; then the folks that pose a relevant threat will be quietly rounded up as needed.
The "masses" wont care -
...seriously, what cross section of the population is even interested in guns in a society that is 47% in the bucket for Hillary Clinton? Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are FIGHTING over who is farther to the left side of the political spectrum.
...and to half of our nations citizens it doesn't matter. Not as long as the rich motherfuckers with all the money get their taxes raised so I can finish my BA in Womens Studies on the governments dime.
The rest of the nation will do whatever they are told to do without so much as a snort except for a rare few that can easily be labeled as violent extremists as soon as madam secretary is finished redecorating her new office..
There is no tipping point.
Keep in mind... republicans in government have already demonstrated that they wouldn't even fight back if Dr. Evil and his son Scott tried to take over.
Democrats, on the other hand, make Emperor Palpatine have nightmares.
